Logic over Beauty
|
A tall girl with silvery white hair floated along the main path through the Queen Maeonia Capital. A glistening white robe drifted about her feet, parted in the front to show a glimpse of a long pale blue dress that barely showed the tip of her black leather boots. She had her head bowed, the ivory material covering her face and hiding her facial features from view. One perhaps could spy the slight curve of her chin, but the rest was a mystery. The cloth covering her face however was not as thick as it seemed to be. She was watching around her, her blue eyes piercing through the material as the girl observed those gathered about her. All sorts of humans and creatures were gathered; most of which who supported or put up with the Nephilim's rule over this region. Nether the less, she walked fearlessly and effortlessly through the town, eyes set ahead of her. A man was following her. She was quiet aware, but her mission to find a spare part in order to tinker with a new invention she had manifested in the back of her head was the goal of her journey. Celia would not leave this horrible city without it in her hand. She turned and entered a shop. Minutes later, she walked out into the street- only to find the man had waited across the street from her. Staring perhaps a second too long at him, she turned away and began walking again. Was it a Nephilim? Even if it was not, the individual could be working for them. Finally breaking her cool and collected attitude, the girl reached up and unclasped the robe, tearing it off from her shoulders. The light pale dress, only a section that was removable from the robe itself, fell to the ground. Underneath she had a white blouse, boyish looking light blue pants with a golden embroider and high heels. The girl took off running at top speed, amazingly quick for someone wearing what she was. The man followed. In fact, the Nephilim guards stationed on the rooftops followed as well- at least three individuals were after her now, and she knew they would have been either way if she hadn't revealed herself. She had realized her mistake far too quickly- her rare white hair had drifted out from underneath her hood and they had spied it. Clutching her prize, she took her chances and dashed down an alleyway. |

What did Xal do to deserve this? Ok, so he had been playing cards with some of the Nephies. He had not bothered to conceal his swords, there was no problem with that here. It was safe to say his swords would not be too much the cause for speculation, given that there were lots of people with weapons out anyway. He had just won a hand he should have by all intents lost. He had a two pair and someone had a full house. He knew this because of the mirror that was revealing two people's hands all to well. "Alright, I'll see you 20 gold, and raise you 60." Xal said smugly. "What, no way!" One said, which was a fairly paranoid chap. "You are joking." "My money's in the pot. If I am joking put yours in." Xal said calmly. He was enjoying this. Yes, Nephies were fun to play with. "No way. Fold." He said, resigning himself from this hand. One ran his cards between his fingers. "I'll raise it another ten." He added his chips in. Xal merely smiled, although really this was not good. "Now we are talking a sporting game. I'll see 10 and raise another 40." "That will wipe me out!" The only remaining person said. "But I gotta see your cards." Xal chuckled. "Add your money to the pot then." He said. "Fold." He said, thoroughly annoyed as Xal began putting his cards in. "Wait! What were your cards?" "I don't have to show. You lost and that is that." Xal said smartly. The guy lost it and made a move at Xal. Next thing he knew, Xal had a blade at the guys throat and a small group was staring. "I advise against trying anything. You see, you lost. Attacking me, or attempting to as you just did, is enough to get you in serious trouble. I advise you leave me be." Xal lowered his blade a bit and took the money. "Have a nice day. I am sure by now someone told a guard you were about to attack me and is now about to arrest you in....I give it five minutes tops." Xal added, smiling as he left, leaving a bewildered person to be soon picked up by the guards. "Takes care of tha-aw hell what is going on?" Xal asked himself seeing some guards take after someone. He ran back and saw some girl running and guards following. "What is going on?" He asked the guards as he ran. With luck, some would stop to talk to him and explain. If he could persuade them he was with them he could kill them even and help the person. Even if it was a Nephy, any chance to take the guards down. They were harder to take down than most. |

The guards bolted after the girl, with the person that had caught her following shortly behind. He was not as fit as the guards, and lacked the speed that they had. However, he had heard what the person that had asked what was going down. "I'll tell you! We got a thief! Part of the Liberation brats!" He said, slowing down to speak, then sped up, desperate to keep up with the guards. Whether Xal followed or not was of course up to him. The other four guards, meanwhile, tried to come up with a plan. so far it was down to two options: lure her in the public eye and get more guards or lure her into an alleyway with a dead end. Then they would capture her and bring her to "justice" in their minds. Of course, the girl if she was an air element might have teleportation powers, but that was not the concern. They kept up after her, hoping to lure her into doing one of the two options. Nothing looked better on a reputation then apprehending someone. |

Celia turned her head briefly to count how many guards were trailing after her. Wait, who was that guy among the guards? He couldn't be a Nephilim. Why am I noticing guys? Celia was baffling herself, and as soon as she realized she had gotten off track, she felt a wave of nervousness sweep over her. This was how people made mistakes, she couldn't get distracted by people! The girl glanced at the stone she was gripping in her hand. It was a pity she couldn't activate it- after all, it was what she came all this way for... "Damnit," She swore as she tried running faster, the world streaming in a blur around her. Running this fast...She hadn't done this in a very long while. What if I took the stone...and... It was a thought. After all, it had to be equipped...And that was good as equipping it, no? With a quick gesture, she put it between her lips and then put it under her tongue so she didn't swallow it. The girl was invisible. The stone was pretty much an equipped water element: she could only pick invisibility or a shield. They were a relatively new science, a mixture of alchemy and several other techniques that in any other region may have been illegal. But the shopkeeper had known Celia as a child- they knew what she stood for. And no one else knew what the shopkeeper did. Why not use it to her advantage? But it did have its faults. If she picked a shield, she would be seen, and the shield would eventually die after at least thirty hits. If she picked invisibility- she could still be hit. Right now, her only concern was getting away in one piece. |
