Its the perfect combination: pitching, defense and a three-run homer. Friday night, in front of 5,238 at Shaw Park, Todd Privett had a great start, the Goldeyes played error-free baseball and Jon Weber delivered the three-run homer as the Winnipeg Goldeyes drilled the St. Paul Saints 8-1. With the victory, the Goldeyes earned their sixth straight win, improved to 32-20 and remained in first place in the American Associations North Division. "That was a great baseball game tonight," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. "We got good pitching today. Todd (Privett) was very good and he reminded me of the guy that we saw in Joliet a couple of years ago. Our bullpen was great and our defense was tidy. It was just an all-around great baseball game." The Goldeyes opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first as Price Kendall worked a leadoff walk, then Weber walked and Yurendell de Caster drove in Kendall with a double. Luis Alen drove home Weber on a ground out and the Goldeyes quickly gave Privett a 2-0 lead. In the second, after a Josh Mazzola single to lead off, Ridge Carpenter was safe on a fielders choice and newcomer Jose Duran walked. Price Kendall doubled home Carpenter and then, with two out, Weber hit a high, long, majestic home run over the rightfield fence to give Winnipeg a 6-0 advantage. The Saints scored a run in the fifth off Privett but that was the only blemish on the Goldeyes pitching staff. Alex Jones and Brian Beuning took over from Privett after he pitched six strong innings and put the game away. Meanwhile, the Fish scored two more runs in the eighth as Chris Roberson doubled home Duran and Kendall and Winnipegs second straight victory over the Saints in this four-game series was in the books. Privett got the win (3-3, 4.09 ERA) for the Goldeyes while St. Paul starter Alberto Rolon (2-4, 6.63 ERA) suffered the loss. There was no save, but in his return to the team, Beuning, the Minnesota State Trooper from Luverne, Minn., pitched two innings of scoreless baseball and struck out five of the seven Saints he faced. He also lowered his ERA to 0.69. "Brian is a great example of how things work out when you throw a strike with the first pitch," said Forney. "I hope some of our other guys watched how he worked tonight." The Goldeyes and Saints will play the third game of this four-game series on Saturday night at Shaw Park. Righthander Ace Walker (5-2, 2.79 ERA) will take the ball for Winnipeg. St. Paul manager George Tsamis has yet to assign a starter. cheap jerseys us .
