QINGHUANGDAO, China - Canadian boxing star Mary Spencer has just one last shot at the London Olympics. Wholesale NBA Jerseys . The three-time world champion from Windsor, Ont., has to hope shes awarded the lone wild card berth for the Games after she missed out on one of the two Olympic spots up for grabs this week at the womens world championships. "Im praying for a wild card," Spencer said. "The only thing better than winning Olympic gold would be winning gold after qualifying via wild card." Spencer needed Swedens Anna Rosalie Laurell to defeat Elena Vystropova of Azerbaijan in the womens 75-kilogram semifinals Thursday, but the Swede lost 16-15. A victory by Laurell would have guaranteed Spencer one of the two Olympic spots set aside for the Americas. Spencer, a three-time world champion and the top seed in her weight class, will now have to wait and see if she gets a wild card spot from the International Olympic Committees Tripartite Commission. Canadas Mandy Bujold and Sandra Bizier are in a similar position after they also missed their chance to qualify for London through the world championships. According to a spokesman from the International Amateur Boxing Association, the wild cards for the three Olympic weight classes will be decided early next month. The qualifying process has been a complicated one after five boxers from the Americas failed to advance past the round of 16, creating a five-way tie for two spots. Spencer lost to Laurell in her opening bout at the tournament earlier this week, so the further Laurell went in the event, the better chance Spencer had of earning a spot. Brazils Roseli Amaral Feitosa and American Claressa Shields have been awarded the two Olympic berths because the women they lost to have both advanced to final. Spencer, 27, was born in Wiarton, Ont., and grew up in Windsor. The five-foot-11 fighter captured gold at the Pan American Games last fall in Mexico and carried the Canadian flag at the closing ceremonies. Spencers absence would be a big blow to the Canadian Olympic team. Shes considered one of Canadas top hopes for a medal in London, and is a rising star on the squad. In addition to being the new face of CoverGirl, Spencer is featured prominently in a new ad campaign from the Canadian Olympic Committee. Her remarkable consistency also took a hit early last month when she dropped a 27-14 decision to Shields in the final of the American Boxing Confederations continental championships. The move will reunite Johnson with former manager Mark Hughes, who spent one season in charge at Craven Cottage, while also allowing him to link up with former strike partner Bobby Zamora. The Toronto Raptors are back from Cleveland and face a home game vs. Detroit on Wednesday night. Its a busy week for the club. Here are a few quick NBA thoughts. 1. TRISTIAN THOMPSON (Cavs): Saw him last night and he is a guy folks have to be patient with as far as his development is concerned. Hes still a bit raw but hes a big and strong young man who has a good work ethic and a desire to learn and improve. Hes getting more comfortable with the daily NBA grind and making the necessary adjustments. His skills need to continue to blossom but hes got a terrific motor and in time will be a good one. I was impressed in stretches last night and considering hes so young, the Cavs have lots to work within the years to come. 2. KEMBA WALKER (Bobcats): Really coming into his own this season; taking and making big shots for his team. Hes a lightning-fast guy who knows how to change speeds and keep you off balance. Loves to challenge the D off the bounce and is fearless in the lane against opposing big men. He is a competitive defender who backs down from no one. In spite of his team being in a major funk after a terrific start, he is a major bright spot. 3. ALAN ANDERSON (Raptors): Hes been excellent in the past two games for his team. He is a fundamentally sound player who makes the right plays and is a steady defender who understands thhe system and his opponents habits. Wholesale Jerseys. He is always prepared to play; a real pro. He has shot it quite well and been solid creating off the bounce. He has limitations and as long as he plays within himself and makes the heady plays, hell be very effective and productive. Good to have him back. 4. LOU WILLIAMS (Hawks): Honestly, ask yourself this: Do the Hawks really miss Joe Johnson that much? Id say no. Look at the fact that the Hawks are ahead of the Nets in the standings and you can point to the pickup of this guy as a major reason why. He proved himself to be a dynamic scorer at times in Philly and once again here. Just give him time and touches and just get out of the way. Hes going to compete and produce. Hes one of the best pickups of the off-season by a team. 5. RYAN ANDERSON (Hornets): Loved him in Orlando and hes gotten better and better. Man, he can shoot it and hell board for you. I remember him in college at Cal and then as a rookie with the Nets and he had sleeper written all over him. He has gotten stronger over time and become one of the best stretch 4s in the League. If you can bring a few top skills like shooting and rebounding to the table, you can stick and create a nice role for yourself and hes done just that. Hes a good team player who plays with energy and purpose on a daily basis. ' ' '
