GOLD COAST, Australia -- Facing defeat by Argentina for the first time in nearly 30 years in Australia, the Wallabies came from 13 points down with 20 minutes left to score two tries and beat the Pumas 23-19 in their Rugby Championship match on Saturday. Terrell Suggs Youth Jersey . Man-of-the-match Digby Ioane crossed for Australias second try and Berrick Barnes kicked the conversion 10 metres in from the touch line to give the Wallabies the lead for the first time in the game. Argentinas only win against the Wallabies in Australia came in 1983 at Brisbanes Ballymore ground. The teams have not played each other since 2003, and Argentinas last win against the Wallabies came in 1997 in Buenos Aires. The win moved Australia into second place ahead of South Africa in the four-nation competition behind first-place New Zealand, which beat South Africa 21-11 earlier Saturday. The All Blacks are undefeated in four matches and lead Australia by eight points. All four teams have next weekend off before South Africa hosts Australia in Pretoria on Sept. 29 and New Zealand travels to La Plata, Argentina in the penultimate round of the inaugural competition. Wallabies centre Pat McCabe started the comeback by crashing over after a pass from flyhalf Quade Cooper. Then stand-in halfback Nick Phipps darted to the blind side and burst past two defenders to put Ioane over. A cramping Barnes, who missed two easy first-half penalties, hit the wide conversion and Australia was in the lead with 10 minutes left. Trailing 6-3 at halftime, Barnes pulled the Wallabies level in the 49th minute before Argentina took charge of the match. Cooper was charged down following the restart by Pumas replacement flanker Tomas Leonardi, who scored with his first touch of the ball. Then playmaker Juan Martin Hernandez produced a strong kick return from a poorly chased Barnes high kick that saw Juan Imhoff put Julio Farais Cabello over for the visitors 13-point lead. Imhoff appeared to put his right foot into touch in the lead-up to the try that brought boos from many in the 22,278 crowd in the first rugby test match in the tourist region south of Brisbane. Hernandez kicked his third penalty of the match soon after and it looked like Australia was headed for another upset loss to go with defeats to Scotland, Samoa and Ireland over the past 15 months. Cooper had a forgettable first half, fumbling several times and also throwing an early intercept pass. Australia coach Robbie Deans said he was considering replacing Cooper but decided against it because winger Dom Shipperley had a dislocated finger. "It did cross our mind," Deans said. "We were to-ing and fro-ing there for a while but Doms injury did complicate things ... and could leave (the bench) exposed." Nathan Sharpe, who became the fourth Australian captain this year after injuries to Will Genia, James Horwill and David Pocock, said the Wallabies played strongly when they needed to. "We had three or four minutes where we got back into the game," Sharpe said. "We showed a great deal of courage and commitment to come back." Argentina captain Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe said teams like the Wallabies never give up. "Were very disappointed because we played so well," he said. "These types of teams, they dont stop until the last minute. In the last 20 minutes, we tried to hold it instead of trying the grab the game." ------ Scores: Australia 23 (Digby Ioane, Pat McCabe tries; Berrick Barnes 2 conversions, Barnes 2, Kurtley Beale penalties), Argentina 19 (Julio Farias Cabello, Tomas Leonardi tries; Juan Martin Hernandez 3 penalties). The second-seeded former world No. 1 Nadal, who turned 26 on Sunday, improved to 49-1 lifetime on the red clay at Roland Garros with a 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 demolition of 13th-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco. The Day-9 debacle was over in a mere 1 hour, 46 minutes, as Nadal held his serve throughout while breaking the helpless Argentine a whopping eight times in 10 tries on Court Lenglen.SEMMERING, Austria -- Veronika Velez Zuzulova of Slovakia upset the favourites to win a World Cup night slalom Saturday for her first career victory. She trailed overall World Cup leader Tina Maze by 0.55 seconds after the opening leg but overtook the Slovenian with a near-flawless final run. Velez Zuzulova finished in a combined time of 1 minute, 37.28 seconds. Kathrin Zettel of Austria was 0.10 back. Maze was third, 0.20 behind. The rest of the field finished more than a second behind Velez Zuzulova, who celebrated her victory by lying face-down in the snow in the finish area for about 30 seconds. "A while ago I was almost thinking that its impossible to win one day," said the 28-year-old Velez Zuzulova, who has been racing on the World Cup circuit since 2000. The Slovakian, who married her French coach Romain Velez in the off-season, said attacking was her only tactic for the final run. "After the first run I was really happy," Velez Zuzulova said. "But the second run was really difficult as I knew Kathrin had a good time. I had to attack, it was the only way I could win." Zettel said she was "super happy, to get this result in front of your home crowd is such a great feeling." Mikeala Shiffrin of the United States, who led the slalom standings going into the race, straddled a gate and didnt finish her second run. Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was the top Canadian in 16th. Erin Mielzynski of Guelph, Ont., was 18th, Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., was 20th and Elli Terwiel of Heffley Creek, B.C., was 23rd. Defending overall champion Lindsey Vonn missed the race while recovering from an intestinal illness, and world slalom champion Marlies Schild of Austria is out for three months after knee surgery. Maze earned her 11th podium finish of the season, went top of the slalom standings and extended her overall lead. But she still coulndt hide her disappointment about losing her commanding first-run lead. "Of course I was disappointed when I came down the second run," said Maze, who had never previously finished a slalom in Semmering. Brendon Ayanbadejo Jersey. "I should have skied better but I didnt. I am happy for Veronika, she did really well." Maze leads the overall World Cup standings going into 2013 with 1,059 points, 427 clear of Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, who finished fourth in the night slalom. Vonn is 645 points behind in fifth place. "I am bit emotional," Maze said. "The year is ending, I am skiing so good. Its amazing." According to U.S. womens head coach Alex Hoedlmoser, Vonn is yet to decide if she will return to the circuit for speed racing from Jan. 10-13 at one of her favourite venues, St. Anton, Austria. "Lindsey is working hard on her physical fitness and she is doing ski training," Hoedlmoser told The Associated Press. "However, we are not putting her under any pressure and we have not set a date. The decision is completely up to Lindsey and the people shes working with now. It would be useless to return when shes not back at full strength." Shiffrin topped the slalom standings following her maiden victory last week in Are, Sweden. She was 0.87 back in fourth after the opening run before skiing out in her second. She lost the line early in her run before the next gate tucked her up. She failed to recover and straddled a gate shortly afterward. The 17-year-old American said it was "a bummer" but was quick to take the positives. "This is only my second year racing World Cups and every experience is new. I am trying to learn as fast as I can," she said. "Wearing the red bib (as leader of the slalom standings) was my dream ever since I was little but I never put a date on it. I didnt really think about it at the start, it was just another bib at just another race." The womens World Cup continues with two more slaloms -- in Munich on Jan. 1 and a night race three days later in Zagreb, Croatia. ' ' '
