Yeah Showtime, I think part of it is, because the game is obviously rushed, you get more out of it if you're willing to put more into it. Like before I ever played a match I edited lots of moves and such to make the wrestlers a little more authentic and play a little better all-around. So if you're not willing to sit there (and it can get tedious) and patch in that custom music or make that killer CAL then it won't be nearly as enjoyable. I wonder how many people who don't like it went in and adjusted the damage slider for longer matches. A lot of it is just how you approach the game and utilize what it can do well. It may not be a No Mercy killer, but I don't think it's that far off from giving SvR a real run for its money. And there's enough there for it to do this on its own terms, if the designers would clean it up just a bit and see their ideas through.

Yup exactly sometimes you just have to play with whatever the game gives you and make the best of it, I am willing to put in the hours by the way. I can actually find the fun in doing things like that, my problem is hearing people saying that they dont have enough moves to work with and right there lies the problem, if they dont give you much to work with to tweak your favorite wrestlers than what is there you can really do? I guess it all boils down to opinion, and what wrestler your changing, I have asked several people if perhaps they had some kind of hogan move where he hulks up like in svr but no one has really been able to say yes or no, but I doubt it. I think eventually I will get this game but not at this price. I called this game a huge and expensive demo, while that sounds harsh I think its accurate considering everything they left out, and the way it was rushed, but also I look at it as a compliment meaning there are better things ahead for LOW, this was only the beginning.

Here's what I replied with in the IGN thread:

Quote:

Review sucked and I give him a 2.7 overall. And I'm not going to complain about the score, because everyone is entitled to their opinion, even reviewers on top video game sites. If he thinks it deserves a 5, who am I to say he is wrong and his opinion is wrong? I can't. Because his opinion is HIS opinion. Not mine or anyone else's.

What I will complain about is how it was written. He offered ZERO information on the features of the game, almost no positives to show that it had them (which it does) and was written as if he was expecting an SvR09 clone (which obviously he was NOT considering he's played the game numerous times before it was released and hyped it EVERY SINGLE TIME) and then was sorely upset and bewildered that this, in fact, WAS NOT an SvR game with Legends on the cover.

Guess what... it's not SvR. Never claimed it was going to be, not in any previews, interviews, overviews, outerviews, reviews, postviews, rearviews, box art, promotions or anywhere else. EVER! So comparing it over and over and over again to what you wish it was as opposed to actually reviewing the game it IS... is a poor choice and a sign of a bad writer. It's like getting Madden '10 and comparing it to Tiger Woods '09 in every mode, gameplay aspect and graphical way you can. Both are made by EA so they should retain the same features, right? How can Tiger Woods get all these things right and Madden do everything the opposite? Is this Bizarro world?

If I wanted SvR09, I would have bought that game. I did NOT want that game and instead bought this game. Guess why... because it is NOT SvR09. I like it better. I like the controls (after I got used to them because I had SvR habits I needed to shake off first), I like the graphics (which you've know were going to be cartoony from DAY ONE so don't act as if this was a shocking revelation upon getting the retail version) and I LOVE the roster.

Sure it has flaws like every game and you certainly focussed on some odd and very minor ones in your review. Not the ones I would have highlighted. But it does have positives which you glossed over because... well... this game isn't SvR much to your dismay. This review was written for one type of person ONLY and that is the SvR fanboy. It does not offer anything constructive to those on the fence, to those that have never touched SvR, to those that don't play wrestling games at all but are interested because of the roster or ANYONE OTHER than the SvR loyalist. When an employee of IGN writes a review, it isn't just THEIR opinion that matters... because in the end, it is IGN's opinion as a whole. You are writing a review for IGN. A site that gets many, many hits each day from a variety of people looking for informative reviews and other news. So to write in such a close-minded, narrow viewpoint and slapping the IGN logo on it is irresponsible to the entire site. I see the same thing with Heroes reviews. But at the end of the day, your score or review doesn't affect me at all. I know what I like and I like this game. I just feel bad for those that blindly come here looking for the definitive word on a game (and there are those that trust this site believe it or not) and get this swill time and time again.

For the record, as someone that wanted something different from the same recycled crap THQ spews out every year, I'd give this game a 7 or 7.5 (it's growing on me more and more each day).

Since I have not played the game I dont know if I would agree with everything you said, but very well said, its true the only opinion that counts is your own, I am disappointed with with all the stuff you cant do in the game, but I did play the demo and to me it was not bad, there is something there, a large part of it is me wanting to like the game cause of the roster, but the game play isnt all that bad in a one on one, and relive was pretty fun. Some would argue what you saw in the demo was the best the game has to offer, Dont know about that but even if it is, it looks like this game has a lot of potential, a few tweaks and some additions would make this game very good, in other words it does not need a massive makeover.
