A hybrid is the result of the reproduction between embers of different species. While in certain cases (like most psecies of Earth) it is necessary for said species to share at least certain genetic similirities in order to reproduce like this, and in most cases the offpsring or the second-generation descendant s infertile, many species existing outside of Earth lack this limitation. In particular, species that have magical abilities, or who have any particularity in their genetic makeshift, can reproduce with many other species who may or may not have this limitation and still produce a viable offspring that will have the characteristics of its predecessors, even if possibly developed later, and who will still be fertile and produce more. Characteristics of the Hybrids: Usually, a hybrid gets characteristics from both parents, though most of the time these characteristics will either be limited in some way, or will be developed at a slower rate than other members of a parent's species. It is important to notice that most hybrids develop more of a parents than from the other, which leads to the fact that, despite being called "halflings", "Half-breeds", "Demi-(insert species here)" or "Half-(Insert Species here)" they are in fact, more correctly, more of an species than from another, depending on the development and how much they can develop (for example, a creature being 7/8s angels or another being 1/4s merfolk). Also, some species have very domining genes, such as the lilim, whose actually have their bodies developing as a whole demon while assimilating just a few traits from the father, except in a few cases, such as when the child is born as a boy (as lilim were supposed to be all female, but still it isn't uncommon for them to have male offsprings), in which case the child tends to develop more traits from the other side, while still being mainly lilim. Mentality: Unlike what many persons believe, no one has any particular psychological effects derived from their ascent: for example, someone who is either a child of a demon and another species (human or otherwise) or someone who has a demonic ancestor while being almost completely of another species (human or otherwise), that person will not have a "demon side" to their personality while their main personality is that of a "normal" person: the person will only have a personality, that like that of any other creature, human, demon or otherwise, will be developed from both pre-existing traits and interactions with the external medium, but without being anything in particular. In other words, by mannerism, actions and behavior, a fairy/demon hybrid could be undistinguishable from a human, a demon, a fairy, an elf, a mermaid, an angel or any kind of combination of the previous ones, only being distinguishble due to small, few traits derived specifically from the species (for example, due to the demonic ascendance they would a predisposition slightly more chaotic and random, while the fairy ascendance would give them a predisposition to be mischievous) that they may or may not develop fully due to their interactions with others. Also, it must be noticed that hybrids tend to see themselves as their "main", more developed species: for example, a an Angel/elf hybrid that was 6/8s Angelic would consider himself an angel, while a human/mermaid hybrid who is 5/6s human would consider himself human. There are exceptions to the rule, of course, such as creatures who, while being mostly from one species, consider themselves as a member of the other species, or creatures who actually consider themselves a either a brand new species or a mix of the two species, although these exceptions tend to be rare. Viability: While in some cases, an offspring couldn't be born out of the fact that the species aren't viable, due to not having enough genetic simlarities or relationship, there are many species who can literally reproduce with any other species. Most of them, as said previously, are of either supernatural origin (angels, demons, elves...) or simply have an unstable or rather mutable genetic makeshift, possibly out of being a "mutant/metahuman/advanced human-creature-or-whatever" etc. It should be noticed that certain species can't directly reproduce with each other. For examle, angels of any kind can't directly reproduce with demons of any kind, and their attempts will never lead to anywhere. The only possibility is that either one or both of the parents are a hybrid or are combined with another species, in which case the resulting offspring wouldn't develop the traits from said parent's main species, but would develop those of the secondary species. For example, Angels and Demons can't reproduce with each other, being completely opposite. But a mostly-human hybrid between an angel and a demon could produce a viable, even fertile, offspring, but this offspring would be a human-demon hybrid, with the human traits developing fully in place of the angelic ones. Also, while there are species that can reproduce with any other, this doesn't mean that there can't be infetile members of said species, and it also doesn't mean that the offspring will develop traits at the same rate as their species: they will most probably end up developing their species' traits at a slower rate than non-hybrid beings. For example, a male lilim/human hybrid with a predomining lilim ascendance would develop the traits of a lilim, but to an slower rate than most lilim, and wouldn't develp some traits specifically associated with full or female lilim (such as the ability to apply the so-called Satyriasis or Nymphetamine effect). Prejudice against hybrids: While Hybrids of any species are accepted by most, there are certain species who hold a small bias towards them, usually because they consider themselves a particularly important or "superior" species. There are also certain inividuals who may not accept the hybrid creature because of personal views on whether if the relationships between their parents' were immortal/sinful/unnecessary, or whether they have any particular idea about being a "master race", etc. Then again, the bias is usually a minor one, and those who are outright violent or highly prejudiced are seen as wrong and immoral. List of Hybrids: Noah Darcy/Asmodeus (A 7/8s demon, though tend to use shorter terms to refer to himself... out of laziness). Edited by Prince Blanche, Nov 13 2008, 07:26 AM.
