A demon is a being of evil, a creature of destruction and pain. All demons are evil, and all of them posses powers reflecting their personality.

The thing is that "evil" in the sense of angels, demons, fairies, elves and others is vastly different than "evil" in the human concept. Actually, most demons seem to be very affable, amicable and nice, although they tend to think rather morbid or horrible things.

This list and description will be mainly focused in the demons and devils from the Abrahamic legends and concepts, although there will be mention to other beings that may be also known as demons. The reason for this is that many of the entities known as demons and devils that don't fit in these legends and concepts will be listed in other list with their correspondent description.

Classification of Demons:

While only one specific species, the creatures known interchangeably as "Demons" and "Devils" include among them many different subspecies and classes, some of them similar to others, sme of them so alien that even other demons find them strange. This list will, first, identify the different classifications, and the second, more complete list will give the specific subspecies that fall into these classifications:

According to Power:

Hell God:
Not actually Demons or Devils, these beings tend to predate Demons and Devils, and even in some cases all other species. They are unholy Gods, deities of the same sort as those in Olympus, in Heaven, or in Asgard, but with the clear difference that they are the deities adored by Demons and Devils as their own, being their creators in some cases. They have all the characteristics of normal Gods, including being superior to mortal beings, but with also having the difference of having their energies resonating with those of Hell.

Archdemons/High Level Demons:
Demons who are close enought o the power of Gods, but who at the same time, aren't able to use the divine energies nor to reshape reality in the way a God can. Despite that, they are still not to be taken lgihtly: the most well-known of them, Baalberith, is powerful enough to destroy worlds and used to be Lilith's personal executrix (until Lilith herself took the position), and while Baalberith is an exceptional case, many Archdemons are close enough to her to still be a threat to almost everything.

Medium Level Demons:
Less powerful than Archdemons, but still powerful enough to surpass most of the inhabitants of Hell. Medium Level Demons are well-known in Hell for bypassing the need for power through other means, and many of them have become "honorary archdemons" , gaining different territories despite not being powerful enough, but through the use of sheer skill at manipulating and controlling others.

Low Level Demons:
Low Level Demons are the weakest of demons, being (in relative terms) what a relatively young wizard is to an archmage when compared to the Archdemons. It must be remembered that, unless already created with great powers, all demons start as Low Level ones, needing time to develop the full extent of their power. It must be remembered, though, that even not even Low Level demons should be understimated: while not powerful when compared to other demons, they still may pose a threat to other beings, as demonstrated by young and untrained warriors of different species, who have tried slaying Low Level Demons who ended hurting them badly, or even destroying them. The current Crown Prince of Hell, Asmodeus, is a Low Level Demon as of yet.

According to characteristics:
Note: Unlike the previous classification, whic tends to be used to classify individual beings, the following list includes the different classes used to classify the many species of demons. While many species tend to fall under one of these classes, there are many cases in which they overlap: for example, species that have characteristics of Shedim and Succubi, like the Lilim.

Shedim:
The Shedim are among the strangest classes of demons in existence: entities existing as souls and spirit of great power, with their mortal bodies (if they have) being mere vessels for said souls instead of their souls powering up their body and spirit, as is usual. The species that fall under this category tend to be separated in two groups: Bodiless and With Body, depending on wheether the Shedim has an actual body or lacks it. While, like other demonic species, the Shedim need energy of others to subsist, they specifically need the life force of others, and they gain it, usually, through devouring the entire soul of other beings and assimilating it, destroying any semblance of the existence of the being's "Ego" or sense of I and saving what is worth saving from their identities. Not all of them absorb the entire soul, though, and many only take a certain amount of it to subsist, while also keeping big reserves, and letting the person produce more life force.

Incubi/Succubi:
Demonic entities that need to absorb the energy of others in order to subsist. Their preferred method tends to be through sexual intercourse with other species, absorbing all the energy they can from their partners. The females are known as Succubi, while the male are known as Incubi. Aside from the energy absorbtion, they also tend to have powers relating to either ice, manipulation of dreams, illusions and the sleep of their partners, or all of these.

Ruhim:
Demonic entities of great physical power, they tend to have very rudimentary forms of magic, mostly manifested as bursts of magical energy when they become angered. In comparison to other species, normal humans can identify the Ruhim due to their more beast-like appearences, resembling a cross between animal species, although like other demons, they tend not to have any relation with any species in Earth. They tend to have a rather undeveloped civilization when compared to other beings. It must be noticed, though, that the main criteria to determinate which species belong to this classification are the civlization, physical strength and rudimentary magic; many other species have beast- or animal-like appearences but are classified in other ways due to their level of magic or civilization development.

Tanninim:
Aquatic entities, living mostly in Tehom, the First Hell and Great Sea of the Hells, but also in the different water bodies throughout the hells. The Tanninim tend to resemble many aquatic species of this world, or crosses between said species, or even crosses between humanoi beings and said species; the most common of them look like disfigured mermaids and cecaelia (humanoids with tentacles instead of legs), and/or like horrendous hybrids between crocodiles or serpents and human-like beings. They tend to be ruled by Archdemons such as Rahab and Gaap, and their greatest rulers are their Goddess Leviathan, the coiling serpent of Tehom that creates most of the unholy light from her dwelling in the depths, and Belial, although his position as their ruler is mostly due to his rulership in general of the First Hell, instead of ruling the classification itself. Despite their horrible appearences, they have some of the most developed technologies and civilizations of all the Hells.

Djinn:
Strictly speaking, Djinn and Demons aren't all that different, and many believe that Djinn are the bridge between Angels and Demons. While this notion is true, but Djinn, Angels and Demons are recognized as species that, while related, aren't the same species, and in fact Angels and Demons can't even reproduce among them or anything. Many say that the Djinn-Demons are simply an species that emerged from the cross between certain demon subspecies and certain Djinn subspecies, but no one knows that exact origin. There are only two that can be classified as Djinn-Demons, these being the Ghouls and the Karin/Karina (the latter of the two seems to overlap at times with Incubi/Succubi).

Fallen Beings:
This classification refers to any demonic being who was not born as a demon originally, but as another being of a different species that, through different possible means, has ully or partly become a demonf, abandoning their previous species.

Ascended Demons:
The classification that is the direct opposite of the previous one, it refers to any demonic being that, through any of the different means avaliable, has fully or partly become a being of another species while leaving most or all of their previous demonic essence.

List of Species:

Se'irim:
While many would identify these almost immediatedly as demonic entities, there are many misconceptions about the Se'irim. Also known as the "Hairy Ones", the Se'irim have a distinctive appearence, looking pretty much like satyrs and being almost always simple trickters and mischievous entities. Unlike satyrs, the Se'irim are well-known for having a wish-granting ability, that they usually manifest when they are trying to cause mischief. Most, if not all, Se'irim are male, and they tend to reproduce with other species, although most of the time of said breeding tend to result in male Se'irim. Their favorite mates tend to be the "Dark Nymphs", their special title for the Lilim. They are classified as Ruhim, due to their lack of proper magical abilities except to use wishes and sudden bursts of magical energy. Their main ruler is Azazel.

Strix:
By far, one of the most terrible species of entities. The Strix are among the few species that aren't normally classifiable among other species, although some tend to name them part of a larger group, known as "Tziporim". Those are very few, though, and the demonic subspecies usually said to form part of the Tziporim along with the Strix are usually classified as subspecies of the Strix themselves, and not independant of them. The Strix are by far the most bloodthirsty species of demon, devouring everything: the soul and the body of a being, not leaving any trace of them at all. Violent and corrupt, these bird-like beings, resembling mostly crosses between owls and ravens with fanged beaks, are among the most dangeorus demons, and will stop at nothing to detroy anything and to devour a life... and the worst part is that they don't even do it for sustent: they do it for pleasure, destroying lives and not even giving the chance of an afterlife to innocents who have fallen as their preys merely because they enjoy it. There are certain subspecies, known as Telade (Mostly active during the night, are stronger and bigger than average Strix), Tiharire (mostly active during the day, have more magical abilities and knowledge) and Zafrire (Corpse-like beings that specially hunt the undead beings, and who unlike the other two seem to have almost no minds. Mostly seen during the twilight hours). Their main ruler is Lilith. They tend to be classified as Shedim.

Lilim:
Also known as the Harlots, the Whores of Hell, the Dark Nymphs and the Mistresses of Pain, the Lilim are an species of demons of lust and violence, created as one of the oldest of deominc species by the Great Goddess of Hell, Lilith, who based them in her own physical manifestation or current body (as her original one was... very, very different). Dominating, violent, quick to anger and mostly indiscriminate, the Lilim mix an stunningly beautiful exterior with some of the most depraved, cruel minds in the entire Hell, anda re the torturers of the sinners who become trapped in Hell. Actually, the entirety of the myth of Hell being the place where the sinners go after their death is related to them, as while there are many demons who do eat souls, Lilim specifically trap the souls of the sinners they can in Hell, torturing them until they are a mess of emotions, at which point they and their life force are more "delicious" to consume for a Lilim (sex apparently also has this effect). Lilim are mostly female, but there is a significant male minority. Lilim reproduce with other species, but all female lilim are full lilim, having adapting their bodies before birth into full demonic state while also adapting what may be useful from their father's species and corrupting it; only male lilim are unable to this, and while all of them are also considered lilim, all of them are actually lilim hybrids, having more dominance from the Lilim side than from the father's side. All lilim are attracted to men, and while some female lilim have shown differing degrees of bisexuality, all male lilim are unable to show sexual attraction to females of any species. Male lilim tend to be less cruel (or at least less prone to show said cruelty) than female ones, and tend to also be more calmed than their more violent female counterpart. Also, there is a correlation between body type and demeanor and sexual preferences in the male lilim, with the more muscular and physically stronger and imposing lilim, usually but not unbiversally also having the more "masculine" personality traits, prefer to be the receptive partners during sexual relationships, capable of changing every now and then but having that as their main, specific preference and tend to seek for more effeminate looking and acting partners in other species (though this last trait isn't universal). The opposite effect, having more effeminate looking male lilim, usually with mroe feminine personalities, prefer ot be the giving/active partners, while those who have a fairly medium body type and personality don't have an innate preference for either position in the relationships; such trait was thought originaly by our researchers to be actually a social expression, showing the difference between the human gender roles and sexual relationships and those of the lilim, but said assumption was proven false by the fact that Lilith made all lilim like that out of her whims, they literally had no choice or specific upbringing causing such things, but a fixation made in their very nature by their creator. Lilim are also, at least aesthetically, related to the Strix, usually seen as their counterparts. Lilim are classified as both Shedim and Succubi/Incubi. Like other Shedim, they absorb life force to subsist, mostly through touch. As a side note, it must be noticed that lilim cannot feel attraction at all for members of their own species, and only may feel attracted to members of other species; also, female lilim can show different forms of sexual orientation (from heterosexual to bisexual to omnisexual, but not fully homosexual desires and attraction), while male lilim can only feeel atracted to other males and not towards females or any other sexes.

Edolim/Idols/False Gods:
Gigantic insectoid demons, much more horrifying in appearence than anything our world could create... despite being mostly calmed and rather friendly. They are ruled over by the God Beelzebub, who looks pretty much like them except for looking even more hideous. Despite this, he and his subjects are rather pascifistic among demons, not even planning to devour souls. While powerful, they are tranquil and almost never abandon the hells they live in, but when they do, they tend to posses an object of religious significance and take on the name of said figure, being venerated by teir subjects. They tend to also devour life force without devouring the full soul, and do it mostly through absorbing small bits of the life force of their subjects through the cult image and then taking it all once the iamge is unnecessary for them. They are mostly grouped with the Shedim due to their great magical prowess.

Adracim/Demonic Locusts:
A group of monstrous, lion-like beings with many feet, a scorpion-like stinger tail, and VERY big mouths filled to the brim with fangs. Ruled over by Apollyon, they are his personal destroyers, entities who spread war and disease among worlds, and who have absurd levels of physical strength. Despite this, many of the hybrids between this and other demonic species may take on the form of the other species until necessary, at which point they will shred appart their original form and use from then on their true, Adracim form, losing all the abilities of their previous form and gaining all of their true one. They are classified as Ruhim.

Ze'evim/Demonic Werewolves:
A particular subspecies of Ruhim, they are a group of wolf-like entities but usually far larger and stronger than the kadmonite wolves. They are very savage, and it is said that they are the species from which the well-known Goetic Demon Amon originated, and possibly also the Goetic Demon Marchosias. Their hybrids with other species can take the shapes of the other species for as long as they want, but still retain their ability to turn back into their true form, but usually retain the ferocity of the Ze'evim; they can urn back to their Ze'evim form whenever they want, though. For some reason, they seem to be associated with fire more predominantly, as hose who learn spells tend to focus on fire, and all of them have a higher body heat than that of most other species.

Ghouls:
Low level necrophagous entities that inhabit mostly in desertic regions, they tend to be considered the descendants of the union between a long lost demonic subspecies and an equally ancient and lost Djinn subspecies. So far, this cannot be determined, yet they are still considered Djinn-Demons due to their strong affinity with both species.

Karin/Karina:
The second subspecies classified among the Djinn-Demon, and also classified among the Incubi/Succubi, is the Karin/Karina. They are beings who exist bound to other entities, their respective gender being altered depending on the gender and preferences of said being, as a temptation to lure others into sin. They grant wishes to those they are bound to, as long as the person both maintains a sexual relationship with them and commits sins. Like the Ghouls, they also are considered as Djinn-Demons due to theri affinities with both species.

Fallen Angels:
Not classificable as Demons and Devils per se, the Fallen Angels are, strictly speaking, Angels who do not share the oint of view, desires or lifestyle choices of their angelic peers, preferring other points of view. This article will only speak about those Fallen Angels who have changed or become Demonic beings through any possible mean. Once a Fallen Angel has decided they shjhould be Demons, through the use of powerful black magic from a demon, through ancient rituals, or through the blessing of an Archdemon or Hell God, they may be imbued with the ability to subsist in the Hells and have affinity with its energy. The residual power left in the Angels will be absorbed to increase and alter their current ones, and depending on the personality and desires of the new Demon, their appearence may change to a new one or may remain the same. These beings aren't exacly a subspecies, rather, they are merely demons who were born as angels. They are classified as Posterior Demons.

Vampiric Demons:
Entities resulting from the slow maduration of a Lilim-born vampire into a full fledged demon. Their bodies have completely changed by know, becoming fully demonic and functional as such, although still undead. Unlike their creators, the Lilim, they aren't Shedim, and sustain themselves through drinking blood. Also, the abilities they had as human are preserved and augmented, while new abilities are added through the years, fitting their personality and derived from their previous abilities. They are classified as Fallen Beings.

Redeemed Demons:
A Redeemed Demon is one who has become an angel through any of the differnet possible means, which makes them now holy beings with affinity for the heavens. Like the Demonic Fallen Angels, these can change their appearence or retain it as it is as a sign of their new powers, and have their old powers modified to become purified into angellic ones. Few Demons go through such process. These entities are classified as Ascended Demons, and due to their angelic nature, can't be considered as Demons per se.

Expect for more subspecies to come soon...

Groups of Demons:

  • Four Angels of Prostitution: The four attendants and sisters of the main ruler of the Hells and her heirs. The originals were Bietka the Elder, Florina Vasordie, Abrahel and Filotano, respectively attending and ruling under their older "sister" Lilith; the second generation being Lilith the Lesser, Agrat bat Mahlat, Eishet Zenunim and Naamah, attending their sister Mehetabel. By now only the original grouip remains, as the tradition was breaking nearly at its beginning, due to Mehetabel's role in the coup d'etat against Lilith and the eventual fall in disgrace of Mehetabel and Asmodina, and the deaths and reincarnations of the Four Angels of Prostitution and Ashm'dai. Despite their names, the word "Angels" is merely just the closest translation that can be found in human languages for the actual word in lilim language.

  • Triumviratum: The group that governed the Hells under the domain of Lilith before the other seven main Hell Lords were instaruated in their places. Composed by Mastemah (who eventually became an usurper for the thrones of Hell), Flauros and Baalberith, respectively known as the "Hostile Monarch", the "Black Phoenix of the Hells" and "the Executrix". Eventually displaced from their roles, Mastemah and Flauros attempted to overthrow the current Hell Lords and were subsequently defeated in their time (though Mastemah has rose to power again), while Baalberith continues being a servant of Lilith, though seems to have her own agenda...

  • Malebranche: A subversive group of demonic spirits, born as conglomerations of strong demonic energies in the Malebolge Forest. The thirteen demons are well-known due to their amazing level of power and their particular ruthlessness, and for having tried to reclaim minor hells to create their own place to exist. Many of them were defeated and sealed away, and their leader was strippd away from most of their power; only one of them, Alichino, the "Hellish Jester" i free and that is due to his relatively low level of power when compared to the rest. They were composed by the King Malacoda (their leader), Queen Calcabrina, Pope Barbariccia, Duke Scarmaglione, Prince Draghignazzo, Baroness Libicocco, Vizier Cagnazzo, Generalissimo Rubicante, Knight Ciriatto, Princess Graffiacane, Judge Farfarello and Court Jester Alichino, with the thirteenth demon, known only as "Executioner Senzanome", being the most powerful and dangerous of them but also the only one without actual intelligence. Their titles are self-appointed, and the english translations were only chosen for being the closest words in english to understand them.

  • Seven Demon Lords: The Rulers of the Seven Main Hells: Tehom, Abaddon, Titahion, Barshacheth, Tzelmoth, Shaarimoth and Gehenna. The highest ranking Hell Gods and High Level Demons in existence, all of them existing as specific leaders of the demonic entities, and all of them mostly independent though under the rulership of their leader the Satan (the seventh of them and the ruler of Gehenna) who in turn is just an envoy/representant of the HaSatan Kisikillillake, unless the HaSatan is ruling directly at that moment.

Notorious entities:

Hell Gods:

  • HaSatan Kisikillillake/Lilith the Adversary: The Creator of all the Hells, an Elder Goddess and Primordial from whom is derived destruction, pain, chaos, sin and evilness. One of the most powerful being sin all existence, and thought by some to be the most powerful. Takes the form of a lilim woman, but her favored, "true" form (at least as true as a nearly formless being for whom matter is unimportant has) is far, far, far, far, far, far, far different and closer to an eldritch creature, sometimes identified vaguely as a dragon (not exactly accurate, but the closest thing that can be used to describe it).

Beelzebub:
Belial:
Leviathan:

  • Mehetabel: With exception of Lilith herself, the most powerful entity to ever exist in Hell. Instigated a coup d'etat against Lilith, but was defeated and sealed away. Mother to Asmodina.

  • Phenex:Twin brother of Flauros, manifesting as a golden bird-like entity. Far less level-headed than his brother, attempted to take over both Heaven and Hell and was taken down by the combined mights of Michael, Cassiel, Baalberith and Sammael. While destroyed, he isn't really dead (like any God, he can't die) and simply separated in different pieces of himself that haven't reintegrated as of yet.

Sammael:
Mastemah:
Flauros:

Demons:

High Level:

Helel:
Bietka the Elder:
Florina Vasordiel:
Filotano:
Abrahel:

  • Gremory: An extremely powerful king of demonic spirits, Gremory doesn't have a real body, but his ability to manipulate the material planes is remarkable. When needing physical bodies, he usually uses female entities as hosts, and currently he is residing within Yvette Regenbogen (or Anastasia E. E. Schlimme a.k.a. Diabolique as she calls herself), though the relationship seems to be one in which she tricked him and imprisioned him within her to gain power (before that, Gremory had been trapped, with a lot of difficulties, by the Roman Catholic Church).

  • Gaap: An aquatic demon or tanninim, who was born from an specifically genderless variation. Changes in between its own genderless figure and both male and female forms, along with other genders out of the dichotomy usually known by humans. Fair and calmed, if a bit of unlikable at times.

  • Proserpine:Princess of demonic entities who arose to power after killing her father. Her hellish realm is in the outer rims of the collective hells, and borders with the realms of Hades and Pluto. She is said to be at least of Lampade background.

  • Tannin/Salome: A minor manifestation and creation of Leviathan that led a small coup d'etat against her creator. Defeated and exiled to an outer demonic sea realm, which she slowly took over as its new mistress. Takes the form of a beautiful, green haired princess but her actual form is a horrible, sea serpent-like demon.

  • Vestalia Aquilea: Current leader or Popess of the Order of the white Night Rose. Can pass from being childish and seemingly innocent, to a deranged monster in the blink of an eye. Very beautiful. Virgin.

  • Sophotina Protennoia: Second in command to Vestalia Aquilea in the Order of the White Night Rose, and currently its oldest living member.

Shemhazzai:
Baalberith: Executrix of Hell and ojne of the most powerful demonesses in Hell. Whimsical and destructive, chaotic and of uncertain, arguable agendas. Lilith herself distrusts her, enjoying a friendly rivalry with her despite the fact that she could obliterate her easily.

Medium Level:

  • Byleth:Fairly cynical teenager/young adult. Not among the strongest in the scale, but notorious for his ability to create other demons.

  • Asmodina bat Mehetabel: Ex-Possible heir to the throne of Gehenna, grandaughter of Lilith.

Sitri:
Lalla:
Vergine/Bianca Mariella Gabrielle Chiaroscuri:
Puttana/Melanie Patience Abraham Chiaroscuri:
Sydonai (Medium-High Level):
Corson ben Sydonai:
Metembuchus ben Sydonai:
Iblis:

Low Level:

Asmodeus ben Helel:
Ziminiar ben Sydonai:
Mancerinio:
Bietka the Lesser:
Baltazo:
