What has incredible style, funny over-the-top campness, murderous bloodthirsty demonic creatures, hordes of enemies, infernal demonic powers to destroy pretty much anything, enough weapons to throw a coup d'etat and win all by yourself, and an impossibly sexy main character with a butt to die for? No, it's not Devil May Cry this time. But it's similar. And just as good (if not better). And also sexy. ![]() Meet Bayonetta. Bayonetta is a game, developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega, that, to put in one word, is Awesome. Centering about the titular character, a sensual and powerful european bespectacled witch, as she goes on to uncover about her past and merrily murders as many angels as possible. Having been sealed away through 500 years and waking up 20 years before the events of the game, she has forgotten her life from before she was sealed, and is intending to found out who she is and what she has been doing, as well as in keeping herself alive; as an Umbran Witch, Bayonetta sold her soul to the Demons of Inferno, and as such must battle and sacrifice the Angels of Paradiso in order to remian alive: where she to stop kiling angels or die, she would be taken by the demons to Inferno to be tortured for eternity. To do this, she follows the track down the "Right Eye of the World", an object connected with her past as she possesses the counterpart, the "Left Eye", hoping that it will help her fit in what little she knows of herself. As she goes on to search for it and arrives in the city of Vigrid, though, she discovers that there might be more than she originally though, and gets pulled into a greater battle to stop the Angels and their nefarious plans... using her strength, swords, her ability to wield four guns simultaneously and invoking greater demons to maul and destroy whatever is in her way using her hair as a medium/embodiment. And as said hair also makes up her outfit, well... let's just say she doesn't seem to mind some momentary nudity. Along the way she meets with her informant Enzo, a shor gangster guy; Rodin, who makes all of Bayonetta's weapons and is the demonic owner of a bar known as "The Gates of Hell" who also informs her of the angelic/demonic affairs; Luka, a reporter and the son of the man who unsealed Bayonetta, who claims that the witch killed his father in front of him just as she was unsealed; Jeanne, a fellow Umbran Witch, but one who seems to consider Bayonetta as her enemy; and Cereza, a little bespectacled girl who seems to believe Bayonetta is her mother. Overall a very good game in my opinion, and very similar to Devil May Cry in both gameplay, features and sheer enjoyment. I admit I haven't bought it yet, unfortunately, but I WANT it so bad I'd die if I don't get it at some point. Fun fact: "Vigrid" is also the name of the battlefield of Ragnarok in norse legend. Dunno why I mentioned that though... |
