A lot is said about the First. Most experts consider them to be ancient spirits; others say they were an actual species with a civilixationa dn shape so alien ours would never fully understand it. What is known is that, whatever they were and however they were, they're not seen anymore at all, and they were the first beings in the entirety of reality to ever use actual magic, to ever actually learn it and use it properly instead of using random bursts of rudimentary "magic".

From what we know, derived from conversations with Gods and entities that are at least as ancient, if not more, as this species, is that they weren't humanoid at all, and there were apparently three branches of the species: the first one apparently would have had an appearance more befitting of jellyfishes, slugs, sea angels or similar creatures from the depths of the sea. They supposedly had gelatinous, translucid skins and bodies, and many tentacles. Their main body, containing whatever few organs they had, was usually shaped in an slightly oval-like form. They had an specific set number of main tentalces separating from the main body, from which the other tentacles separated.

The second group had an appearence more similar to a worm, an eel or snake, being long and without limbs. They also didn't have a definite head or tail, and moved by floating. They had a set of undulating fins in their bodies, and usually moved in an spiral motion as they floated.

The third kind are mere gelationous blobs that constantly glow and move form a place to the other. Nothing more than small spheres of "light" (or at least, a glowing mass without any specific solid matter). They also apparently reproduced asexually, as one of them could separate in two: but that also doesn't help much our investigations as there are also many report sof two different ones fusing into one. Whether or not this is an actual reproductive function of some sort or not, we aren't still sure and most probably won't be sure in a long time.

A particular trait of these ancestral users of the primitive branches of magic is that they had no ability to communicate verbally: their only method of communication was through bioluminiscence, making their body glow in different degrees of intensity and in different colors of patterns. Each pattern, combined with its specific colors and intensity of the glow, was their equivalent to modern spells (or rather, to what most species use as spells).

Their civilization is said to have been beautiful, in a crystaline world with different elements that glowed as much as the members of the First species. To a modern human, or any human, or possibly any creature, their architecture, world and general appearance would be both extremely exquisite and beautiful and horribly, mind-breakingly terrifying.

That is the only knowledge we have of them. Whatever happened to this species and their world is unknown, but we can onyl pray that we can find this species again at some point. Who knows what secrets we could learn from them...
