First off, welcome to Legions of 40K! This is your greatest resource (or it will be ;) ) for making various armors, weapons, and relics from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

By now you may have seen some of the pictures, files, and reference around the site and are very eager to make your armor, but hold still and read all of this first!

Now for the list!

Pepakura
Pepa-whata? Pepakura Designer is a program that takes 3D models and "unfolds" them onto a 2D plane. In other words it will take just about any 3D model you make and allow you to print out 2D pieces on cardstock, fold them, glue them together, and end up with a replica of your 3D model! Pepakura can be found HERE. The free version will open files but cannot save.

.PDO
.PDO is the file type that Pepakura saves as. In order to save you will have to buy the license for Pepakura. DO NOT ASK FOR KEYS ON THIS FORUM!

Metasequoia
Commonly called Metaseq, this is a simple but powerful 3D program that works very well with Pepakura. It saves files in a .MQO format which opens in Pepakura natively. It can be found HERE.
There are other 3D programs available, for those look into N00bpedia Vol.2.

Fiberglass Resin
In order to make your armor stronger and not just paper you will have to coat it in resin and then fiberglass. Fiberglass Resin and Fiberglass can be found at your local home supply store. Fiberglass comes as Cloth or Mat. Mat is for strength, Cloth for reinforcement. You can however use anyone you like as it will not make a big difference on pieces as small as armor. Make sure you have the hardener with the Resin! ONLY MIX RESIN IN A VENTILATED AREA OR OUTSIDE!
If someone says they are "Glassing" something it simply means they are adding a layer of fiberglass.

Bondo and Rondo
Bondo Body Filler is available wherever you can get Fiberglass and Resin. Like Resin Bondo comes with a catalyst but, unlike resin, it and the Bondo are in putty form. Bondo is used after Fiberglassing to fill in gaps and create smoother surfaces and edges.
Rondo is what comes of mixing Bondo and Resin. Only the Resin Catalyst is needed in this case, though you will have to add twice as much. Rondo is smoother than regular Bondo, and is also more viscous (more runny, like melted wax).
ONLY MIX WHERE VENTILATED AS WITH THE RESIN ABOVE!

Respirator
A MUST IF YOU PLAN ON USING RESIN OR BONDO/RONDO! A respirator will protect you from the fumes that comes off the resin and bondo, these are toxic. It is also a good idea to wear when sanding fiberglass or resin, as breathing in the dust is also toxic (not to mention fiberglass will cut your throat apart). Read the manual that comes with it to see how often you need to change the cartridges and what they protect against, you will need Particle and Chemical cartridges.

Aqua Resin
Don't like toxic fumes? Aqua Resin is like Fiberglass Resin but instead of being two liquids it is a liquid and a powder. You will still need a dust mask of some kind (or a respirator) but there are no fumes, so mixing it inside is safe. It can also be used with fiberglass just as the Resin above! You can find it HERE. Just start with a sample pack as it comes with the resin, mixing containers, fiberglass, glass strands, and some other useful items.

Thats it for now! I will add more as time goes on, if needed.
