I was born to Nature elves by the name of Leto and Gaia. The middle daughter of seven children. My people were attuned to nature and the calling therefore, they knew that I had been chosen for something great because the wind had whispered secrets to them. The local Speaker of our village came to talk to my parents after I was born informing them that soon there would be another speaker and that speaker would be me. At that time they finally chose my name Leeta. A name they saw befit for a future speaker.
The Speaker's job was to keep peace with the local animals, they were the bridge between the animal and elven world. A bridge that was much needed in our unbalanced land. The time I was born in was called the Time of Fire. A strange species of elves were on the warpath against us seeking to destroy all those that loved and protected nature. They claimed we knew nothing and finally my people had enough, several weeks after I was born my people fled into the forested hills never to be seen by other elves again.
I grew up in a loving and safe place. I knew no fear. My mother and father saw to it that I knew that I was special but not more importnat then my many siblings. I grew up knowing I belonged to this special people who loved and protected nature with all their being. From the moment I could walk and talk the Speaker visited with me, teaching me the strange but beautiful things of Nature.
At the age of five my father saw it fit to betrothe me to Kivin, one of the Wolf Folk, who had been gifted with a more elven form. He at the time was a simple drone in his pack but he knew that he would someday be greater then that. Kivin was a close friend to my eldest brother Ti, they would do anything for each other and Kivin soon became like part of the family but I had never truly met him or even seen him. The Speaker had kept me busy with my lessons as had my Mother and Aunt.
I remember the first time I saw Kivin, I was six years old and loved to play with wolf puppies. The Ways of the Wolves called to me and nothing gave me more pleasure then spending time with them. He had been working with my eldest brother Ti but stopped when he heard wolf puppies so close to our village. Quickly he set out to find them and in doing so found me, eagerly playing with them.
"You like the wolves, little one?" The man's voice was deep, calm and gentle. It reminded me of how the trees spoke, never rushing, never hurrying, always there. I looked up and shaded my eyes, the man was tall, taller then my father who was taller then our apples tree when it was brought back, the sun glinted of the short, black curls of his head. Cocking my head, I stared at him curiously not answering him, the handsome stranger made my tongue feel dry in my mouth and it seemed as any words I would try to speak would be jumbled up and only make me look stupid. His eyes were a dark forest green with golden flecks highlighting them, his gaze was curious and playful. Carefully he bent down next to me and spoke to the wolves, I stared at him fascinated. He knew the Wolves pure language! "The pups enjoy your attention little one, they adore you. Take care of them and they shall take care of you." With that the man walked off and I stared dumbly after him, he was so handsome, caring and he spoke the wolves pure language! Excitment filled me and in the evening I told my whole family about the stranger and his love for Wolves. My mother and father shared secret smiles with Ti but I noticed none of this to caught up in wondering who that handsome stranger was.
I will forever remember that meeting with Kivin even though I did not know who he was at the time, something happened there and we connected in some strange way that I would never fully understand. At this time I spent much time with my older brother Aryck, I adored him and he adored me. Many thought we were twins even though we were truly eighteen months apart but we had so much in common that people assumed we were twins. Even though my knowledge of twins led me to believe they were exact opposites. Aryck taught me how to walk silently and fight, he taught me the best places to hide and how to use anything as camoflauge. My brother Keo also followed us around, Keo alway scared me slightly but Aryck was always near me and told me that Keo would never harm me, if only that had been true.
When I reached the age of eight I had a wolf bite me. I wanted to be with the wolves more then anything, their nature called to me like no other. Once bitten I inherited the power to shape into one and also inherited their senses and knowledge. I had never felt more happy and spent many days in my wolf-shape but when I returned home I found that I had changed. When my mother saw me she stared, I had taken on the fangs of a wolf and the eyes of one. My once perfectly clear blue eyes, eyes that belonged to a pure speaker, had turned the dark brown of a wolf. From that time on I was told that I would never be able to be a speaker. So instead I learned to be a healer.
