''I was not expecting that to happen!'' Takibi said as she stood up from behind the table.
The Rose Guard she had attacked was nothing more than a small crater where a corner of the room once stood.
She managed to turn in time to see that the shot had been fired from the flamboyant pirate on stage who was now in his own shiny suit or armor.

Her attention did not stay focused on the stage for long as one of the Rose Guards approached her.
She readied herself for an attack but quickly saw that this one had no weapons other than itself being on.
On top of that it was walking over to her and did not seem to have anything about it which would say it would attack her.

Just then it stopped as the large face plate lifted up.
''The captain wishes to dine with you milady.'' Roy explained as he gave Takibi a quick bow from within his armor.
''You will be the the belle of the ball and be showered in gifts and wonders.''

''If I'm to join and be his, right?'' Takibi waved her hand at Roy with a look of disgust on her face.
''Which in that case I am disinclined to acquiesce to your request.'' She grinned at the pirate.

''Ah but Milady, it was no request.'' Roy said as the face plate closed down over him.
The Rose Guard lunged forwards at the shrine maiden with both hands out ready to grab a hold of her.

Takibi dropped down as the armor's hands went over her head.
She tried to quickly stand back up but tripped on her Kimono, almost falling over face first she righted herself with her hands and got behind the Rose Guard.

''If you disagree you will not be spared milady.'' Roy spun around in his armor with one arm out, lashing at Takibi he almost made contact but she managed to leaned backwards just in time.
However her Kimono once again betrayed her and she fell backwards, landing on her rear end.

''This Kimono!'' She yelled as she stood back up.
Without warning the shrine maiden tugged on the bow around her waist which loosened her kimono.

''Wh..what are you doing?'' Roy mumbled as the armoured arms of his Rose Guard came up to cover the face plate.

The kimono slowly dropped down over Takibi's shoulders as she smiled at him.
''What's the matter?'' She teased but then flung her kimono at the armor's face plate.
''It's a good job I was training today!'' Takibi stood in a second kimono which she had on under the one that was now covering Roy's Rose Guard's face.
''You don't think I would train them guys in that do you?''
Takibi jumped at the Rose guard, now with her legs free she kicked out and planted her foot against the face plate.
It was much harder than she thought it would of been but she kept back the pain as she climbed over it's 'head' and jumped down behind it.

''where did you go!'' Roy yelled as he managed to remove the kimono from blocking hid view.
Suddenly the only thing he could see was a bright red flame on the other side of the guard's face plate.
Spinning around her came face to face with Takibi who had her hands out in front of her each with a flame in her palms.
''Banesu!'' She yelled out as Roy could feel the heat getting warmer inside of his armor.

''Banesu!?'' He replied not knowing what the shrine maiden was on about, that was till he saw the fire ball appear before his eyes.
''Pyrum!!'' Roy yelled as the fire ball slammed into his Rose Guard, sending it across the room where it smashed against the wall.
It stood there for a moment before pulling itself back up.

''I'm... I'm alive?'' Roy checked himself over for a second.
''Who ever invented these things sure was planning to go to war!''

~

''I say, now this will be interesting!'' Arnold said as he raised his armor's face plate.
His eyes focused only on Takibi as she started to take off her Kimono.
''She will make for a fine acquaintance of my crew.''

Just then it became apparent that she was wearing a smaller kimono under her first to much of Arnold's disappointment.
''Oh well, I guess such things are better suited for when we are alone, after all am a gentleman of....what was that!''
Arnold quickly closed his face plate as Roy was sent across the room by a fire ball.
''I like my ladies hot but that's just taking the mick now.''

Arnold turned in his armor to think about the current events going on around him.
''Out of all the ladies here the only one that lives up to my standers needs to cool down first. At least today wasn't a total lost, I have three good men to join my crew.''
A loud scream shout out across the room as one of the Rose guards sliced one of the would be crew members in half.
''Two, two potential new crew members.''

''Sir!'' One of the Rose Guards called out from across the room.
''We have a candidate who would like to be tested.''
The pirate stood with his suits hand pointing over at Kenshin who had managed to take down on of their crew.

''Ah, jolly good show! A worthy opponent for once such as I.''
Arnold chucked to himself as he turned to face Kenshin.
The twin engines on his Rose Guards came to life as he jumped from the stage and landed a few feet from the Yafutoma man.
However unlike the other Rose Guards he righted himself in no time and posed in his suit with one arm across it's chest and the other pointing into the sky above.
''Prepare yourself lowly commoner, for you are in the presence of greatness!''
The face plate lifted as Arnold raised himself slightly, flicking his hair to one side as he smiled down on Kenshin.
''It is I, Arnold Lance!'' With a flick of his hand he released a hand full of pink petals which spread around on the ground before the two of them.
''You have been selected to join my crew, so join with me!'' Arnold was almost singing now as he waved his hands around when suddenly he stopped.
His head turned to look directly at Kenshin as his hair covering his right eye moved just enough to show the scare he had.
''Or Die!'' These words unlike the others to which he just spoke seemed to of come from a completely different Arnold.
The face plat came down and covered him as he swung out his sword arm, not at Kenshin directly but to just extend the blade to it's fullest as the edges started to glow red.
''Increm!'' As he said the words his Rose Guard started to grow red for a moment and then he lunged forwards, his blade landed between Kenshin's legs. A fake attack to get him off guard, and then before he knew it Arnold's sniper arm was in his face before quickly moving down to blast at the ground around his feet.

Kenshin's confrontation with Arnold happened so quickly he scarcely had time to react, let alone counter the Valuan pirate's attacks. He avoided the sword strike with a quick back-flip but nearly lost his footing when the ground below him shattered under the gunshot that followed.

While Arnold awaited his response Kenshin considered his odds of winning if the Black Pirate tried to make good on his threat. He could tell from the way Arnold carried himself and the ease at which he handled the clunky armor that the Valuan captain was a much more skillful combatant that his flunkies were.

Now, Kenshin was not a coward. The very thought of running from a fight, even when he knew the likelihood of victory was minimal, made he flush with anger. And Kenshin would not run from Arnold Lance.

He simply wouldn't fight him at all.

"Hahahahaa! And you call yourself a showman?" Kenshin taunted the pirate. "Oh no, it is far too soon for us to stage the grand finale!"

Satisfied that he'd made it perfectly clear to everyone that was within earshot that he was most definitely NOT running away Kenshin took a running leap towards Arnold's Rose Guard, stepping up onto its outstretched gun arm, before vaulting up onto its head and then finally dropping down behind it.

"I'm not running away. I'm....just biding my time until....a more opportune moment." Kenshin tried to convince himself as he headed in the opposite direction as Arnold. "Yes! That is exactly what I am doing! And when that time comes I shall crush you!"

~

"You've got some pretty mean magic in your corner Sis." An aging pirate with a Valuan accent and the bearing of a former soldier smirked as he approached Takibi. "I dealt with your kind plenty during the war."

The older pirate was still in good shape and wielded his saber with practiced skill. "The trick is to get in close before a spell is cast. Like this!"

The Valuan pirate suddenly lurched forward, closing the gap between himself and the priestess in a few quick strides. Whether he meant to kill her or merely incapacitate her was uncertain.

And it was to remain so.

"Don't walk away from me when I'm talking to you!" Kenshin screamed from a few paces behind the soldier. A heavy flower pot came hurtling between them and struck the former soldier on the back of his head just as he reached Takibi.

The soldier-turned-pirate folded to the ground in front of the priestess like a stage curtain being dropped, revealing the hot-blooded young martial artist jogging up behind him. "How dare you ignore my challenge. Now stand up and....and....ah....oh, my."

Kenshin felt his anger drain from his being when he found himself gazing upon the face of the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. "Oh, ah....ah hah. Ohayo Gozaimasu!" He greeted Takibi in Yafutoman. Kenshin could feel his face beginning to blush and his heart was hammering in his chest. He tried to play his sudden appearance off and look cool but was aware that he was staring at the priestess and probably looked like a total fool.

"So....uh, do you...how did...you enjoy your meal?" Kenshin stuttered, uncertain of what to say right now.

''I say, where does he think he is going?'' Arnold turned around in his Rose guard as he watched Kenshin 'ran' away from the fight.
''One does not leave their partner alone on the dance floor!'' Arnold muttered as he pointed his sniper are at Kenshin.
''Crush me?'' He lowered his weapon as the Yafutoma man got away.
''Now this will be interesting.'' Arnold grinned from inside of his armour.

If there was one thing he liked it was a good show, and Kenshin was putting on a great performance for the Black Pirate.

~

No sooner as Takibi had taken care of Roy for now she was approached by another pirate, yet before she knew what was going on he fell down before her.
It seemed as if he had been taken out by the man from her home county who was now approaching her.
He was focused on taking down the pirate, well till he laid eyes on Takibi and started to mumble his words.

"Oh, ah....ah hah. Ohayo Gozaimasu!" He managed to say as he gazed at her, his face slightly turning a shade of red.

Takibi giggled a little to herself as she smiled back at him.
''Ohayo, hajimemashite.'' She took a slight bow.
''Watashi wa Ishikawa Takibi desu.'' She introduced herself as she raised her head back up, looking up Kenshin as she did.

"So....uh, do you...how did...you enjoy your meal?" The Yafutoma man stuttered before her which only made her smile even more.
She knew she was above average looking but most of the time when men are around so if Dengeki her older sister who get's most of if not all the attention.

''I must say it was quite adequate.'' She started when suddenly movement came from behind Kenshin.
Without warning Takibi pulled him towards her, holding him close as she reached out with her other hand, pointing it towards the pirate who came up from behind.
''Bana!'' She said, her lips close to Kenshin's ear as she held him.

With a flash of red light the would be attacker burst into flames and fell to the ground.
''Do forgive me.'' Takibi moved away from Kenshin and took a bow.
''Just returning the favour.'' She again looked back up with a smile.

~

''Sorry captain, she is a little too much for me.'' Roy slowly came over to Arnold, his Rose Guard a little burnt as the face plate opened up.

''She will come around, after all I am Arnold Lance.'' Arnold's Rose Guards' face plate also opened up as he flicked his hair to one side.
''What woman can resist such beauty?''

Roy just nodded as he looked around the room.
''It seems she is the only woman left sir, will you be recruiting any of the men?''

''The two over there are pretty strong, and that guy...well I do like a good performer.''
Arnold looked over at Kenshin and frowned seeing he was closer to Takibi than Arnold could get right now.
''Round up the Rose Guards! It's time to end this!''

Roy raised his Rose Guard's arm into the air to signal the end of the battle.
Each and every other member of the Rose Guard stopped fighting as they gathered together, each one pointing it cannon arm at the survivors.

''Time for our little party to end I'm afraid.'' Arnold stood up in her armour and took a bow.
This is the last chance you all have to put down your weapons and join this marvelous group of wonderful...''

Just then a loud shot sounded out and within the blink of an eye the entire room shook as the wall to the back of the stage exploded into dust.
Debris of rock and stone shot out across the room as another shot was sounded.
''Take cover!'' Roy yelled out as the Rose Guard all took evasive manoeuvres before the shot hit the centre of the room.
Another explosion took place as it ripped the room to shreds.
As the dust settled most of Arnold's men where fine thanks to their armour, but a few of the fighters where no more.

~

Takibi stood by Kenshin as the Rose Guard lined up.
She got ready to assist him as a flame appeared in her hand, a spell was getting ready to be cast when suddenly the back wall of the room exploded.
Without saying a word she ducked for cover as a few smaller rocks flew over head.

As things calmed back down she grabbed Kenshin by the arm and ran for cover in the stone doorway that lead to the kitchen.
''What in the Blue Moon was that!?'' She said she she looked out from the doorway.

~

As the dust cleared from the second shot Arnold stood up and moved over to what was once the other half of the building.
''Mutiny?'' He said in a confused tone, there not far off his own ship was facing the building.

''Not likely Captain, your best men are all here.'' Roy replied as the Rose Guard all picked themselves up from the shot.

''Wait just one fabulous moment!'' Arnold pointed his sniper out towards his own ship.
''I did not give permission to deploy the Thorn Dancer!'' He yelled as he spotted the mechanical armour standing on the deck of the Black Rose, pointing it's cannon arm at the building.

Mentioning the name Thorn Dancer caused members of the Rose Guard to start backing away as they muttered to one another.
''Get back here!'' Roy yelled at them to which they slowly moved back into place.
''The Thorn Dancer has never been completely tested and it's Moon Stone powered weapons are not compleat!''
Roy tried to calm Arnold's men down.

''I go to the trouble of setting up this dance when all along my stage partner was on my ship?'' Arnold smiled to himself as he waved off the survivors from the building.
''And now, it's show time.'' Lance backed away as he lowered his face plate have seen before anyone else that the Thorn Dancer had jumped from the side of his ship.

~

''What is that? Another of these armour things?'' Takibi tried to make out what Arnold and his crew where looking out at.
She could not make it out because of the distance but knew something was up from the way Arnold's men where acting.

''No way! It just...!'' Takibi could not belive her eyes when the thing jumped from the side of the ship.
Under normal circumstances it would of been suicide but the second the armoured suit hit the ground there was a burst of sand kicked into the air and then it was gone.

~

''Ladies and Gentleman, I give you the performance of your lives.'' Arnold bowed in his Rose guard as the ground started to shake.
Suddenly the floor in the middle of the room burst open as a large drill smashed out from the ground.
Within seconds the large mechanical armour had ascended and stood in what was left of the building.

In no time at all the Rose guard rushed it from all sides but were all knocked away as it's main body spun around with it's arms stretched out.

(The boss has appeared and can not be harmed yet but you can try to attack it.
There is pretty much nothing left of the building now but with it's ability to drill underground where will you run to in a desert? I'll post a thread about the boss like I have done with the others in the past. Link)

Kenshin was caught completely off guard when Takibi wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled him into an embrace. His face flushed red until it almost matched the revealing kimono that she was wearing. It was so revealing, in fact, that Kenshin was treated to a spectacular view of Takibi's cleavage, causing his brain to lock up from over-stimulation.

''Do forgive me.'' Takibi apologized, releasing Kenshin from his embarrassing entrapment. ''Just returning the favour.''

"M,m,my pleasure!" Kenshin stuttered in response. "Ah....I should be the one to apologize for my rudeness! I did not properly introduce myself! I am called...."

KA-BOOM!

Kenshin's introduction was cut short when one whole side of the room disappeared in a fiery explosion. The haughty young upstart was knocked off of his feet by the blast and fell to the floor, taking Takibi down with him. "Ugh...ow! What was...." Kenshin groaned as he struggled to rise.

"Ow....uh....oh." Kenshin felt his temperature rising once again when he realized that he had fallen on top of Takibi. He gazed down at her for a few seconds, paralyzed by the sensation of lying so close to a woman, before he scrambled to his feet and offered a hand to help her up.

"M,m,many apologies!" Kenshin apologized profusely But Takibi was far too busy dealing with this new threat to even notice how flustered he was. She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him into the meager safety of a stone archway that was still standing.

''What in the Blue Moon was that!?'' Takibi asked. She surveyed the destruction of the room in search of whatever it was that had destroyed it.

Kenshin took a deep breath and swallowed the lump in his throat. He then fixed the priestess with a stern gaze and answered her in the most manly voice he could manage.

"I do not know. But whatever it is, know that I will protect you from it. Even if it costs me my life!"

~

Kenshin stepped protectively in front of Takibi and leveled his spear at the new (and bigger!) machine that had burst up from the ground only a few seconds earlier. He wasn't certain how to combat such a menace but that wasn't what was important right now. In this moment Kenshin knew that his greatest concern was looking cool in front of the pretty shrine maiden.

"Hmph, I don't care what it is." Kenshin growled, satisfied that his machismo was at a sufficiently high level. "It won't look so big after I've smashed it to pieces."

Kenshin surveyed the scene in hopes that a decent strategy for doing that would present itself. It didn't look very promising though. Not only was there this new, more powerful, machine to be dealt with but plenty of the first ones, including the scary white on, were still up and running. But to Kenshin's eyes it looked as if the Rose Guards were at odds with the newcomer.

"Hmm, the lion has just met the tiger it seems." Kenshin sited an old Yafutoman adage. "Perhaps I can defeat both without even lifting a finger...."

~

Well, that wasn't exactly what he'd meant. Kenshin had decided to make the first move to usher his stratagem along. "Miss, I'm going to join the battle now. Please stay safe until I return." He said, placing his hands on Takibi's shoulders and looking her in the eyes. And then he turned to go, a cocky grin on his face. That had sounded pretty cool.

Kenshin made towards the Rose Guard that was closest to him. It wasn't hard to steal up on it since most of Arnold's crew were warily keeping an eye on the Thorn Dancer at that moment. When he was within reach Kenshin swung his spear around and bashed it against the side of the Rose Guard. At the same time he ran right out in front of it, as if daring its pilot to pick him off.

"Hahahahaaaa! You imbecile! Did you forget that I was your opponent?" Kenshin laughed at the pilot.

In response the Rose Guard's faceplate snapped open and its pilot scowled out at him. "Do you have a death wish or something? Can't you see I've got bigger fish to fry right now? Get lost!"

"The only loss will be yours weakling!" Kenshin continued to provoke the pilot. "Now fight me! Or are your weapons just for show?"

That did it. The Rose Guard's faceplate slammed shut and its gun arm rose menacingly. "I'll give you a show you little twit!"

Just as the mechanical suit's weapon began to discharge Kenshin strafed away from it. He ran in the direction of the Thorn Dancer, hoping to lead the Rose Guard's line of fire right to it. Behind him the floor shattered under the impact of the bullets that were dogging his steps.

But the pilot was apparently smarter than Kenshin had anticipated. His finger released the weapon's trigger before his sights lined up with the Thorn Dancer and it fell silent. "Nice try kid but I wasn't born yesterday." The pilot chuckled from inside of the Rose Guard.

"Has my clever scheme been foiled so easily?" Kenshin yelled back in irritation. And then he was back on the move as the gunfire resumed. He dashed straight towards the Rose Guard, ducking beneath the deadly stream of bullets and rolling to a stop right in front of it.

"No! It has not!" Kenshin crowed triumphantly as he rose to his feet and threw his shoulder against the outstretched gun arm. The mechanical limb resisted his efforts but he would not be denied. Kenshin threw all of his weight against the arm and forced it to move aside.

When the Rose Guard's pilot saw what was going on he quickly released the trigger but it was far too late. Several rounds of ammunition were already streaming through the air towards their new target. The pilot stared out of the machine's eye-slit in horror at what he'd just done.

He'd just taken a pot-shot at the Thorn Dancer.

"I do not know. But whatever it is, know that I will protect you from it. Even if it costs me my life!" As Kenshin spoke his words took Takibi's attention away from the new threat and set it on the man.
If there was one single thing above all else that was was trying to teach the selected warriors under her training it was just that.
This made it clear to the Moon shrine maiden that this man had indeed been trained, if not by himself then another.

He stepped out in front of her as if to protect her from this new machine.
"It won't look so big after I've smashed it to pieces." His words where that of a warrior but Takibi could see he was acting very different from when he first set eyes on her.
If he was trying to act cool in front of the maiden then it was working as she just smiled knowing he was going to do his best for her.
It was something she had seen before while training other but none of them but the same amount of effort into it as Kenshin was doing right now.

~

The Thorn Dancer started to slow down from it's spin as the Rose guard members picked themselves slowly up from the ground.
All but Arnold and Roy who knew not to rush in like fools.

''Get up you worthless fools!'' Roy yelled as they did as he commanded.

''Not so loud Roy.'' Arnold raised his face plat as well as raising an eyebrow at the Thorn Dancer.
''Which fool on my ship would dare turn on me?'' He muttered to himself as he thought about just who was still on his ship at that time.

Just then Arnold's eye was caught by Kenshin who was running around one of Arnold's men.
''I thought I told you all to take them out! This performance has been cancel, the scrip altered and the star has a new partner.''
Arnold looked back at the thorn Dancer which was slowly turning left and right as if surveying the area.

Suddenly Several rounds of ammunition hit against the large machine as Takibi watched from the safety of the stone doorway.

''You fool!'' Roy called out to the crew man as the Thorn Dance swung around to face him.

''Don't move.'' Arnold said in a calm voice as the engine rumbled on the Thorn Dance as it rushed across the ground.
Several Rose Guard members dived out of it's way and as each one jumped the Thorn Dancer's arm swung out to lash at them.
Yet when passing Arnold and Roy it did not take any attention of their presence.

Within seconds it was upon the Rose Guard that had taken a shot at it, thanks to Kenshin's interference.
The Black Pirate was too scared to move from the machine's sheer size as it raised it's claw arm into the air.
Then like a knife through butter the red Moon Stones in each claw shone a bright red as it tore thought the metal of the Rose Guard.

It was over in a second and all that was left were strips of mangled metal and flesh where the Rose Guard once stood.

''That thing is a monster!'' Roy raised his face plat to get a better look at the machine now that it was a some what safe distance away.

''Well I never.'' Arnold said as an uncomfortable smile broke out across his face.
He pointed his sniper at one of his crew members on the other side of the room, then without warning took a shot at the Rose Guard.
The very instant the single bullet hit against the metal armour the Thorn Dancer spun around to face the unfortunate crew man.

Arnold sat back in his Rose Guard as his eyes moved away from the Thorn Dancer and down to the floor.
''This is how he thanks me...?'' His words where almost spoke in laughter as he mumbled to himself.

''Captain?'' Roy called over but got no response.
''Gah! Not again... Ok gentleman! Arnold's having one of his moments, fall back and regroup!''

The Rose Guard members started to move and in doing so the Thorn Dancer once again started to spin on the spot as if stopping anyone from getting too close.

~

''There you are!'' Roy walked over in his armour as the other member's of Arnold's crew attempted to attack the Thorn Dancer.
''Your a pretty strong fighter, I'll give you that. And under normal circumstance I'm sure Arnold would of wanted you to join us.''
He stopped a few feet away from the Yafutoma man.
''Not that you would of accepted, am I right?'' He was quick to add.

''As we no longer need your presence I shall personally see you off this stage, permanently.''
Roy's Rose Guard face plat opened up as he pointed his pistol at Kenshin with an almost twisted grin on his face.
Yet as he pulled the trigger nothing happened.
''Wait, what!'' Roy slammed the pistol down and took control of his Rose Guard quickly.
With all the commotion going on he had forgot to reload his weapon.
''Have at you!'' Roy yelled as he charged at Kenshin.

(You may do as youe please with Roy but can't kill him here.)

Kenshin dove aside and rolled across the floor when the Thorn Dancer took the bait. The huge machine raced across the room and demolished the Rose Guard with one swipe of its talons. The hot-headed fighter grinned proudly at how well his plan had worked out.

But his grin faded into a perplexed expression when Arnold opened fire on one of his own crewmen, prompting the Thorn Dancer to eviscerate that poor unlucky fool as well. But in his confusion Kenshin couldn't help but laugh a little. "What the...? Did he miss or something?" He chuckled to himself as he rose to his feet and dusted himself off.

Kenshin was barely back on his feet when one of the Rose Guard suits approached him. ''There you are!'' Its pilot called to him. Kenshin stood his ground, curious to see what the man wanted. ''Your a pretty strong fighter, I'll give you that. And under normal circumstance I'm sure Arnold would of wanted you to join us.'' The suit's pilot awarded him.

Despite being faced with a strong foe Kenshin couldn't help but feel pride at the man's compliment. "Yes, I have trained for many years to acquire this skill!" He answered with a hint of arrogance in his voice. "And your desire to add my strength to your fighting force is well founded!"

''Not that you would of accepted, am I right?'' The pilot added with a pointed look at Kenshin.

Kenshin shook his head and grimaced. "I am sorry but I cannot allow myself to be deterred from the path I now walk. My destiny is already written and none of you are mentioned within its pages."

The Rose Guard's faceplate snapped open and its pilot peered out, leveling a pistol at Kenshin's chest. ''As we no longer need your presence I shall personally see you off this stage, permanently.'' He growled.

"Gyah, not again!" Kenshin snorted in irritation as he found himself facing yet another of the men in their mechanical armor. He didn't wait around long enough to see that the man's pistol was empty though. Instead Kenshin turned and dashed off across the room, once again heading towards the Thorn Dancer.

~

"Get back here you little rat!" Kenshin heard Roy's angry voice call out from behind. He didn't have to look back to see that the Rose Guard was in hot pursuit. The way the floor trembled with each step it took was proof of that. But what Kenshin hadn't yet noticed was that Roy had holstered his pistol and drawn both of the huge swords attached to the back of his suit. Even now they both stood poised in the air to slice Kenshin in half the moment his steps faltered.

Kenshin didn't have to see that either. Just imagining himself behind mowed down by the mechanical beast behind him was enough to spur him forward even faster. "And only a fool would attempt to face such a beast in open combat." Kenshin consoled himself with sage wisdom for having turned tail and run away in the face of an enemy once again.

"A beast can only be slain by a yet larger beast!" Kenshin smiled to himself as he decided on his next move. "And a beast cannot change it's nature. This should work again."

Ahead of him the Thorn Dancer had fallen still for a moment after warding off the rest of Arnold's men. Its back was facing Kenshin as he swiftly approached it. The wily young fighter's eyes scanned the ground between himself and the huge machine and settled upon a clay pitcher that had somehow survived the violence intact.

As Kenshin drew near to the Thorn Dancer he lined himself up with it and then gave the pitcher a swift kick without breaking stride. The clay vessel arched through the air and struck the mechanical monster on the left shoulder, forcing its torso to spin about to face whoever had just attacked it.

And that someone just happened to be Roy.

"Bloody Hell...." Roy sighed.

At the same time Kenshin darted past the Thorn Dancer on its right side, avoiding its sight completely.

~

"Hahahahaaaa! Our greatest boon is our enemies' foolishness!" Kenshin laughed heartily as he rejoined Takibi in the shelter of the stone archway. "They will strike each other down in their own folly!"

Kenshin's smile faded even as the haughty words left his mouth. He knew that he wouldn't be able to keep using the same trick to turn the Thorn Dancer against the Rose Guards like that. Sooner or later he'd have to face one of them directly.

"And I will take on whoever is left standing." Kenshin decided that sooner rather than later would be the best time to do so. But it wouldn't hurt to even the odds up a little bit first.

Kenshin turned to address Takibi. "My lady, I take it from your robes that you are a priestess of the Red Moon?" He asked. "If so then I beg your assistance."

"Those suits have a strength that rivals that of a mere man. And although it pains me to admit this, my own is not enough to match theirs." Kenshin explained, grimacing at the truth he had revealed.

Then, with a flourish Kenshin presented the Yellow Moon Stone tip of his spear to the priestess. "I can weaken our enemy using this. And to further aid my efforts I ask that you use your magic to strengthen me as well."

Kenshin marshaled his spirit in anticipation of casting a spell while waiting for Takibi's response.

"Bloody Hell...." Roy sighed as the Thorn Dancer turned to face him.
By now Kenshin had long gone so Roy was now alone to face whoever was inside the large mechanical armoured suit.

Dirt was kicked up as the beast like machine rushed at him with it's claw arm at the ready, the red Moon Stones shining as flames rose from the tips of the claws.
''He who runs away....'' Roy said as the face plat of his Rose Guard flung open.
''Lives to fight another day!'' He leaped out of his armour and rolled across the ground as the Thorn Dancer's claws sliced his Rose guard into several pieces of scrap metal.

As Roy looked up expecting to see the machine face him he was a little surprised to see it constantly slamming it's claws against the roaring engine that was still activated as if the very sound of it was annoying whoever was inside of it.
''No argument here.'' Roy muttered as he used this opportunity to make a quick escape from the machine.

~

"My lady, I take it from your robes that you are a priestess of the Red Moon?" Kenshin asked after explaining how turning the new threat against the old would only work for so long.
"If so then I beg your assistance."

''That sir I am.'' Takibi took a bow followed up with a smile.
''Second sister of the Ishikawa clan, Maidens of the Tsuki shrine.''
She placed her hand against the golden necklace that hung around her neck.

Kenshin did not like to admit that he could not stand up to these suits of armour, yet Takibi still judged him to be a much more worthy warrior than the ones running around the desert right now.
He had the magic to weaken their foes but it might not of been enough and so Takibi could only be pleased to assist him with her own magic.

''It would be my honour good sir.'' She took another quick bow as she placed one hand against her Moon Stone necklace.
It started to shine red as the light became brighter. The very floor around Takibi shone red as flames burst from the ground as if they where dancing around her body.
''Aka Tsuki, kanaeru chikara desu!'' She called out as the flames burst outwards and spun around Kenshin and herself.
''Aposu!'' The flames spun faster and faster, then in a bright flash of red light the flames were gone.
Takibi had cast Incremus on them both.

~

''Captain?'' Roy rushed over to regroup with the other Rose Guard members only to find that Arnold was no longer with them.
''Where is the captain!?'' Roy asked as the other members all looked around at one another confused to where he had gone off to.

''I knew that thing was too dangerous to bring along with us.'' Roy looked back over at the Thorn Dancer that was almost done crushing what was left of his own personal Rose Guard.
''Should of left it on that island.''

''Sir, there!'' One of the Rose Guard members yelled as he pointed our across the desert from where there had once been a wall to the building.
There in the distance and heading towards his ship was Arnold.

''Gah, what!?'' Roy muttered in seeing that Arnold was making his own escape from the battle.
''Ok men, retreat back to the Black Rose!'' Roy ordered as he turned to face the Thorn Dancer that was now facing their group.

''No way can we out run that thing!'' The members said between them.

''Then it's a jolly good job he isn't paying us any attention!'' Roy said as he picked up one of the few unsmashed chairs and flung it across the room where it smashed against the doorway to which Kenshin and Takibi where standing.
He looked over at the two and saluted with a grin as if to repay Kenshin the favour from before.
With that Roy jumped onto the side of a Rose Guard and held on as the group made their way across the desert, heading for their ship.

~

''Really now?'' Arnold asked himself as he walked up the gangplank to his ship.
''This is the thanks I get for 'saving' him?'' The face plat of his Rose Guard opened up as he shook his head.

''Sir!'' One of the crew members of the Black Rose rushed over to Arnold.
''He escaped...a..and took the Thorn Dancer.....''

Arnold lashed out with his Rose Guard and took a hold of the man, lifting him off his feet and bringing him face to face with himself.
''You don't say?'' Arnold's eyes went wide as his hair flung out of the way of them.
Suddenly he sung his Rose Guard around and tossed the man over the side of the ship.

''Tell me something I don't know!'' Arnold yelled as the man fell.
Turning his armour back around Arnold jumped out as two other crew members rushed over, one using his own body as a step for Arnold while the other jumped into the Rose Guard to move it below deck.

''Inform the crew, I want this ship up and ready to leave, five minuets ago!'' Arnold yelled as the crew members came out from below deck.

~

''Ready?'' Takibi grinned as the chair smashed a few feet from them.
The Thorn Dancer swung around to face them as it's claws started to snap as if it was an excited beast.
It then pointed it's cannon arm at the two as the drill started up again.

Takibi frowned as she could normally ready an opponent's movements yet this one was making it hard.
In fact if she did not know any better it was the most random attack pattern she had witnessed.

The Thorn Dancer opened fire on the two.
Yet the shot Takibi expect to see from before did not happen, just a smaller shot that only destroyed their stone doorway as she leaped out of the way.
''Guess it needed longer to charge?'' She smiled as she rolled and stood up on one side of the machine.
She raised one hand as she placed her other against her necklace.

''Bana!'' She yelled as flames burst from the ground around the Thorn Dancer.
It started to spin on the spot like a wild beast confused from the sudden attack.
''Now's your chance to weaken it!''

(This is the last round in which the Thorn Dancer can not be harmed or stopped.
In my next post it's weakness will be shown.)

Kenshin flexed his muscles as the power of Takibi's magic washed over them. He always relished the feeling of strength and invulnerability that suffused his mind whenever he used the Increm spell. But somehow the priestess's magic seemed even more potent than his own. Kenshin felt as if he could take on the Thorn Dancer bare-handed right now.

Instead the young fighter was forced to grab Takibi and pull her aside as a chair came flying across the room towards them. It wouldn't have struck either of them even if he hadn't done so. Roy's throw was poorly aimed and Kenshin couldn't help but sneer when the chair shattered against the wall some distance from the two of them.

"Hah! What were you aiming at?" He laughed across the distance at the pirate. But his mirth turned to anger when he saw that he, along with his captain and the rest of the crew, were retreating across the sands towards their ship. "Hey! Get back here so that we may settle this!" Kenshin screamed at them. But the crew of the Black Rose either didn't hear him or were unwilling to face him in battle.

Kenshin decided that the latter must be the case. He couldn't blame them for their cowardice. "Fine! Run away then! Your defeat was inevitable anyway!" The arrogant young martial-artist yelled at their backs. Secretly he was pleased by this outcome. Although he would never admit it to anyone, Kenshin wasn't so certain about the inevitability of their defeat. He might well have been the one to lose this battle. But now that possibility was out the window and he was looking like a total badass in front of the pretty priestess.

There was only one monkey-wrench in the works now; the Thorn Dancer.

~

''Ready?'' Takibi asked Kenshin.

Kenshin grinned back at her. "Always!"

Judging from its movements the Thorn Dancer was also ready to rock. Its claws twitched in anticipation while its gun-arm rose to aim in their direction.

"Take heed priestess!" Kenshin called out a warning to Takibi a second before the huge machine fired a shot at them. Both of them dodged by rolling aside, each winding up on a different side of the Thorn Dancer. They had it flanked now but Kenshin couldn't see how that was really all that helpful.

''Guess it needed longer to charge?'' Takibi noted when the cannon failed to destroy the other half of the building like it had with its first shot.

"Let us not give it another chance to marshal its power!" Kenshin replied in a voice loud enough to be heard over the Thorn Dancer's engine.

Takibi responded by casting another spell. Kenshin fell back and shielded his eyes from the sudden wave of heat that engulfed the mechanical monster. He squinted at it from between his eyelids and was puzzled by its reaction. Despite being shielded from Takibi's flames the Thorn Dancer's pilot lashed out violently at them for some reason. It was as if he were trying to attack the spell itself rather than its caster.

Kenshin didn't have a chance to think about what that could mean though. ''Now's your chance to weaken it!'' Takibi's voice urged him to follow her lead.

Kenshin nodded once and then leveled the tip of his spear at the Thorn Dancer. "Moons! I command you! DRILN!" He shouted. From within him the magic surged through his arm and down the length of his spear's shaft. The weapon's head glowed with a soft yellow radiance as the spell was cast.

Several small orbs of static electricity coalesced in the air around the Thorn Dancer before descending upon its armored body. Although they did not appear to do any physical damage Kenshin knew from experience that the spell had taken effect. Some of the fight had been knocked out of the machine and it would be easier to deal with now.

"This is still going to be an ordeal." Kenshin muttered to himself. "I am still at a loss as to how I'm supposed to injure this cursed contraption...."

''Yatta!'' Takibi yelled as the machine started to slow down from it's spinning rampage as Kenshin's Drilin spell seemed to take effect who ever was inside of the armour.
''Now we need to find a way in!'' She looked at the face plate to realise that it was different to the ones on the Rose Guard.
It did not seem to lift up at all which confused her as to how anyone could get inside of it.

For a moment she figured it was a giant self operating machine such as the ones she had heard about when the old Valuan Armada had taken control of the Ixa'taka mines.
That was till she saw the hatch on the top of it's 'head'.
''Up there!'' She pointed out to Kenshin.

The Shrine Maiden held onto her Necklace as she went about planning with spell to cast in order to assist Kenshin with his next attack now they they knew just where to strike.
However before they could make a move the Thorn Dancer suddenly came to a stop before spinning right around to face the large Black Pirate ship in the distance.
It's claws started to twitched for a moment before pointing it's cannon arm at the ship.
Without hesitation the moment it's cannon was lined up it opened fire, or would of done if it could.
Since it's last attack the cannon had not had hardly enough time to charge back up for a basic shot.

Seeing how there was no shot fired from it's cannon the Thorn Dancer spun back around taking no notice of Kenshin or Takibi as it's drill started up, spinning faster as it kicked dirt and stone into the air.

~

''Move it!'' One of the Rose Guard members yelled as the group jumped and latched onto the gangplank as the Black Rose took out without waiting for them.

''Thanks for the warning.'' Roy huffed as he jumped out of his armour and set foot on deck.
He could see that Arnold was at the Helm with an almost twisted grin on his face.

''What's got you all worked up?'' Roy walked over and stood by his captain, trying to pick on on what it was he was now trying to line the ship up with.

''That ungrateful fool!'' Arnold snapped as he flicked his hair from out of his eyes.

''Fool Sir?'' Roy raised an eyebrow, figuring that Arnold was on about who ever it was that took the Thorn Dancer.

''I was the one who saved him!'' Arnold yelled as he turned the ship.

''Oh, him.'' Roy looked over at where the ship was now facing.
''Saved? Took captive more like.''

''I gave him the honour of being my personal entertainer!'' Arnold was almost singing his words now.

''You mean court jester in chains.'' Roy muttered under his breath.

''But I will have the last laugh, won't I Roy!'' Arnold turned to face Roy as he took a hold of his hands and forced him into a dance.

''Of course Sir, the last laugh.'' He rolled his eyes.
''Just like the last guy to figure out a joke.'' Roy once again said under his breath.

''Now, ready the cannons!'' Arnold let go of Roy which sent the first mate falling over.

''Isn't that a little extreme Sir!?'' Roy picked himself up just in time to see the ship's main forward facing cannons extend and start to glow.

''Extreme? Oh no my boy, it's more what I like to call....Eccentric.''
Arnold turned to face what was now left of the building as he flung his right arm into the air, letting go of a pink handkerchief.
''Be fabulous my cannons!'' As Arnold yelled the Black Rose fired upon the building.

~

No sooner as the Thorn Dancer's drill started up Takibi figured why the person inside was in such a hurry.
What sounded like a large explosion caught her attention as almost on pure instance she turned to run as she looked over her shoulder to see the pirate ship fire upon their location.
Everything for her seemed to run in slow motion as the shells flew closer.

The Thorn Dancer was now starting it's dig into the ground, kicking up dust and dirt which made it harder to see just what was going on.
Then it hit, the ground shook as what was left of the building crumbled from the blast as Takibi felt herself being flung across the desert sands.

Slowly she opened her eyes, seeing that by some miracle she had landed on a collection of broken chairs.
It could of been the mix of already weakened wood an cushions that saved her but she knew what the real reason was she she stood up with only a few aches and pains.

''Tsuki shrine maiden of the Red Moon!'' She said to herself as she held out her hand, a flame burning bright within her palm.
She knew that her powerful Incremus spell from before was probably the reason she was now standing.

Yet her moment was cut short when she looked around.
All around her was now an open desert along with a few remains of what almost look like a building.

''Kenshin?'' She yelled out.
She knew that if she managed to survive the blast then someone like him along with the effect of her magic would have no problems.

After a short while she spotted Kenshin from where he ended up after the attack.
''Hey! Are you hurt?'' She rushed over waving her hands as she did.

''Well, I guess that's the last we will see of him'' Takibi turned to look at Arnold's ship as it disappeared over the horizon.
''I can't stand men who run away from anything!'' Takibi brushed down her kimono with her hands as she looked around.

''I guess he did help us out, even if that was not his intent.'' The Shrine Maiden checked but could not see any sign of the Thorn Dancer.
''I guess he wanted to call it curtains?'' She giggled at her joke as she offered her hand to Kenshin.
''Would you assist me with leaving this place?'' she smiled at him.

But before the two could exchange any more words the floor below them started to rumble.
''Ah! Watch out!'' Takibi pushed herself onto Kenshin, trusting him to help her out of the way.

Suddenly sand was kicked up into the air around them as something burst out from the ground.
The thorn Dancer launched itself into the air before landing on the desert ground a few feet away from the two of them and with it's back towards the two.

''It survived!?'' Takibi said, a little surprised considering the Drlin spell that Kenshin cast on it.
''Did it only effect the person?'' She did not know too much about machine and if magic could really effect them or not.
In any case she figured that it was the machine that had protected the pilot.

For a moment the armour did not move or turn to face them, it just stood there shaking ever so slightly.
Takibi then noticed that it's cannon arm was completely missing and as the sand settled back down it was in fact worse for wear.
The claw arm twitched a second before the machine spun around to face the two of them.

''Who... what is that!?'' Takibi yelled, seeing that the front of the armour had been blasted away now showing the pilot sitting inside.
The man slowly stood up as he held onto the side of the machine, raising his head his white messy hair blew in the wind as he started to sniff around.
Then his head turned sharply to face Kenshin and Takibi, his eyes shot wide open.

''His eyes....'' Takibi said on seeing that they where nothing but white.

Then the man sat back down before letting out an inhuman roar, grabbing the controls the Thorn Dancer started up and rushed into their direction.

(The Thorn Dancer no longer has a cannon or it's whole front armour to which Blind is now on show. He can be attacked but do remember he no longer feels pain or can see.)

Kenshin had only just begun his deliberations into how to assail the Thorn Dancer when Takibi provided him with the basis for a solid strategy. "Up there!" She shouted, drawing his attention to a hatch atop the machine's massive frame.

"Yes, there lies the key to victory!" Kenshin agreed, smiling vigorously. But his smile soon faded. "But how to approach it without being torn asunder. That is the question."

Once again Kenshin's train of thought was derailed by the Thorn Dancers erratic actions. For a moment it looked as if it meant to attack the retreating pirates. But then its pilot seemed to change his mind and began burrowing beneath the ground for some reason.

"Huh." Kenshin quirked an eyebrow at the odd behavior. "Now where's it going?"

And then Takibi turned on her heel and began running. "Wait! Now you're leaving too?" Kenshin called after her before breaking into a mad dash to catch up to her.

"Why is everyone leaving? A victor has yet to be named in this contest!" Kenshin huffed. "Are we to truly going to let it end thus? Are we so easily to ~ "

And then he was thrown off his feet and sent flying through the air.

On sheer instinct Kenshin tucked his body into a ball and rolled across the burning sand. Bits of shattered stone and burning splinters lashed the flesh of his back and his ears were still ringing from the sudden explosive demise of the restaurant but he was otherwise unharmed.

"Kenshin?" Takibi's anxious voice cut through the ringing to reach his ears. Suddenly feeling self-conscious in the shrine maiden's presence Kenshin hoisted himself to his feet and dusted the sand from his clothing. "Hey! Are you hurt?" She inquired as she jogged over to where he'd landed.

"Hah! These weaklings lack the strength to do me harm!" Kenshin laughed arrogantly in reply.

''Well, I guess that's the last we will see of him.'' Takibi nodded in the direction of the Black Rose as it sailed away into the distance. ''I can't stand men who run away from anything!''

Kenshin shrugged with mock humility. "Perhaps he could not bear the thought of losing."

Takibi spoke words of agreement and then awarded him with a charming smile. "Would you assist me in leaving this place?" She asked, holding out her hand to him.

Kenshin felt his face flush with sudden embarrassment. He glanced about nervously for a moment before answering. "I would be honored miss. But...my dhabu seems to have also run away." He said sheepishly as he reached out to take her hand. Kenshin was just about to offer to carry Takibi on his back the entire way when she suddenly threw herself into his arms.

Kenshin felt his blood starting to boil and a sloppy grin spread across his face. He wrapped his arms around the shrine maiden's shoulders, uncertain of exactly what was going on but definitely not complaining one bit about it.

''Ah! Watch out!'' Takibi cried out a warning.

"Huh? What..." Kenshin grunted as he was dragged out of his fantasy world and thrust back into reality.

In a flurry of sand and debris the Thorn Dancer also reentered the world. And it was still spoiling for a fight.

~

''It survived!?' Takibi cried in astonishment at the sudden reappearance of the Thorn Dancer.

Kenshin nodded grimly. "But the worse for wear it seems." He said, pointing out the damage the machine had sustained.

Just then the Thorn Dancer pivoted about to face them. Its facade had been torn aside and the two of them caught their first glimpse of the machine's pilot through the breach.

''Who... what is that!?'' Takibi seemed repulsed by the man's disheveled appearance. ''His eyes....''

Kenshin also noticed the milky white orbs that cast about sightlessly and the way the pilot raised his head to sniff the air. "He truly is a beast." The young fighter gasped in surprise.

And then, as if cued by the hand of a malevolent spirit, the wind shifted and a light desert breeze blew across the sands. It wafted a haze of grit across Kenshin's back and continued on to tousle the pilot's unruly white hair.

And with it came the scent of Yafutoman blood.

Blind's head snapped around in their direction and he issued a guttural howl. In response the Thorn Dancer leapt into sudden motion, rushing forward to mow them down.

~

"Get down!" Kenshin cried as he shoved Takibi out of the rampaging machine's path before leaping in the opposite direction. The Thorn Dancer raced past, raising a cloud of sand in its wake. Kenshin rose to his feet and brandished his spear in the machine's direction.

With its pilot now exposed Kenshin was entertaining the thought of throwing the weapon through the opening to impale him. He quickly revised this strategy though. "If I missed I would be unarmed." He mused. "Perhaps I can throw something else instead."

For the moment the Thorn Dancer had come to a halt while its sight-challenged driver attempted to locate his prey once again. Kenshin took that opportunity to have a look around as well. Surely there was something amongst the debris of the restaurant that he could use. A butcher's knife or a chuck of rock; something. Anything.

And then Kenshin's eyes lit upon a likely candidate to serve as a makeshift missile. Lying on its side amongst the rubble was a broken serving cart. The ground around it was littered with a variety of heavy-looking jars, bottles and boxes. With a clever smile Kenshin stalked over to inspect them more closely.

Kenshin eyed the various spices and condiments and then his eyes lit up with sudden inspiration. He reached down to claim a metal tin from amongst them and then turned to face the Thorn Dancer.

~

With a casual gesture Kenshin tossed his spear into the air. It flew a short distance and then embedded itself in the sand between himself and the Thorn Dancer He'd need both hands free for what he was about to do. His footfalls made almost no sound as he approached the menacing machine. Now downwind of it Blind would have a hard time locating him.

Kenshin tossed the tin into the air, only to catch it again. He repeated the motion a few more times. Right now he was full of confidence in the success of his plan. Blind's ears pricked up at even this slight noise and his head turned in Kenshin's direction. His lips curled back over his jagged teeth and his hands moved towards the Thorn Dancer's controls.

But Kenshin's hands moved faster.

The tin left his hands and arched through the air, heading straight towards the opening in the Thorn Dancer's faceplate. The image of a khale pepper painted on its side spun end over as it flew.

"Get a snoot-full of that!" Kenshin cried in exultation as the tin struck Blind in the chest. It did him no harm but the cloud of pungent red pepper that it released would soon fill the Thorn Dancer's interior and play havoc with the feral soldier's sensitive nose.

~

No sooner had the pepper tin struck than Kenshin raced forward, hot on its trail. He knew he would only have a narrow opening before Blind did....whatever he would do in reaction to his clever scheme. As he ran Kenshin passed by his spear and reached out to recover it.

When he was nearly on top of the Thorn Dancer Kenshin thrust the spear's tip down into the ground and used it to vault up onto the machine's chest. From there he was able to clamber up on top of it.

"Now I have you!" Kenshin cried jubilantly. But would he be able to pry the hatch open before the Thorn Dancer started moving again?
