The Ice Fang
|
Lance landed on his feet as his free hand touched the ground to support him. No sooner as his hand made contact with the ground he pushed himself upwards and took two steps backwards and out of the way of the Valuan's who fell into the tunnel after him. The first two landed on top of each other while the third one used them to stand upright, facing Arnold. His first thought was to slash out at the Valuan but he quickly remembered what he had learnt, that they relied on sound and so he stood perfectly still yet with his sword still raised. The Valuan turned his head around as if he was searching, yet did not stop in Lance's direction. A grin appeared on his face as he knew if he was silent then they would not find him. Just then his grining face turned to one of confusion as the man started to sniff the air. Arnold looked at the tip of his sword which was covered in the fresh blood of the Valuan's. ''Blood....Fresh Blood!'' The Blind Valuan called out as his head turned and locked onto Arnold's direction. ''You got to be kidding me!'' Arnold shouted as the man leaped at him. With a quick simple slash of his blade he severed his head. Thanks to his yelling each and every valuan in the tunnel turned their attention to him. ''Ah....'' Arnold realized what he had just done. ''Think, quick!'' He started to mutter as he looked around in a panic for a way out. The area he stood in was bright from the light coming from the main chamber of the mine. His own armor reflecting alot of the light while the Valuan's armor around him was dull and blood stained. He could make out that the tunnel his stood in went off in two directions, one right in front of him and another behind. The one in front was right away a no go area as even in the dark he could make out at least fithteen more of the guards. Behind in was darker still but there was no sign of life. 'Need to get them away.' He thought to himself. Arnold then remember the Valuan he had just struck down. He looked to his feet and spotted the head. With a downwards thrust of his blade he impaled the head and raised it up to his own. He turned his noise up at what the light let him see up close. The man's skin looked almost as if it had been rotting away, along with the smell to match it. The eyes where all white, a lack of light for so long had caused some kind of blindness but he did not care for the facts. He had a plan and judging from what he knew so far about the 'people' living down here he was sure it would work. Arnold took a mighty swing with his sword and flung the head over the top of the Valuan guards in front of him. The severed head flew across and down the tunnel, spraying it's fresh blood all over. Just as Arnold had guessed the group of Valuan's started to sniff the air. The head hit something metal that echoed around the tunnel, the sound of metal pipes that where probably attached to a wall for some kind of water supply. As the sound echoed the Valuan's seemed to turn their attention away from Arnold and towards the head. ''Stupid savages.' Lance thought to himself as he made his exit down the tunnel as quietly as possible. ~ Arnold managed to find his way down the tunnel, his mind racing with the thought of getting the Moon Stones and getting out along with wondering just what these Valuan's had become. He spotted a dim light just up ahead and after moving for a while and figuring out the tunnel's shape he knew it had to lead back to the main chamber of the mine, along with the Valuan guards. Just then he heard a noise, someone or more likely something was moving around close by. The tunnel did not help as the sound echoed around him. He turned to face the way he had come, making sure nothing would come up from behind him. Suddenly he felt the presence of someone and turned to face them. He almost jumped but then again so did this other person. She had a cross bow at the ready, yet if she was going to of used it on him then he would still not of been standing to face her. Right away even in the dim light of the tunnel he could tell she was a native of Ixa'taka, yet nothing about her seemed like a slave. In fact now he thought about it he had not seen any of the old slaves down in the mine. He looked her up and down real quick, he had seen slaves before but this woman was nothing like them. "Well, hello handsome." She purred softly. It was clear, no slave would talk to a Valuan in armor in such away, and a savage wouldn't talk at all. "You come here often?" She added teasingly. ''First time.'' He softly replied. ''Don't think much of it but since the company has just greatly improved I could be persuaded to come more often.'' He Took out his pink hand cloth and cleaned the blood from his blade. If there was one thing Arnold liked it was women who where strong minded like this Ixa'taka seemed to be. As much as Arnold would of liked to stand around and check out his new companion he knew they had to keep moving. This became obvious as the sound of rattling armor started to move closer. Again Arnold started to look around for a way out. There was no going back the way he had come from and the way the Ixa'taka woman had come from connected back to the main camber which was crawling with 'them'. ''That should buy us some time!'' Arnold whispered as he spotted what looked to be wood stacked against the wall. He moved as quiet as he could, trying not to let his armor clatter. It turned out the wood was a smashed up crate with would could be made out to be the Valuan emblem on the side. Most likely a transport crate for tools, but that did not matter. Arnold pointed his sword at the wooden mess, the tip started to glow. The air started to warm up around him, ''Come on...'' He muttered as the sound of the creatures got closer. ''Hold them off!'' He called over to the woman. ''Pyri!'' He said as the blade set alight, causing the wood to burst into flames. ''Let's go!'' Arnold called out to the woman as he dashed towards her, his aim was to go back the way she had come from as the light was brighter. The Valuan's all caught the sent of the fire which confused most of them as the smell in the tunnel was over powering and the sound of the wood burning away covered up other sounds. A few walked into the fire as it set them too alight. Arnold stopped for a second to watch in horror as one of the valuan seemed to not care or even notice that he was almost completely on fire. ''Don't they feel?'' He asked himself as he turned to look at the Ixa'taka Woman. That was when he noticed another tunnel thanks to the flickering light from the fire. It had been covered in the thick darkness but now it was like a shining sign of hope. ''Down there!'' He pointed behind the woman, not that there was any other way to run. There was no sound or movement from that direction and by not alot more Valuan's from the main chamber had started to make their way towards them from both direction. Arnold made his way into the tunnel which like most of the mine was in complete darkness. He made sure to do this quietly as to not bring attention to the two of them. ''I don't think there following..'' He whispered to his new comrade. No sooner as the two of them felt the slightest bit safe the floor suddenly went into a steep downwards slant, causing them to lose their footing. With the weight of his armor Lance fell the quickest landing on his back. He was not in any pain but checked to see where the woman had landed. He made sure she was ok before moving on. knowing there was no making it back up the way they had just come. ''You hear that?'' Arnold asked, there was the slightest sound that was almost not there, yet he could not make out what it was or if he was even really hearing anything. ''This is a Valuan mine, there should be a light source somewhere.'' He said, not knowing if the woman was close to him or not as it was too dark to see anything. Arnold put both his arms out and felt around in the darkness, finding what must of been a wall he started to move around for a switch or something. ''Not the best of times but the names Lance, Arnold Lance!'' there was a tone of self righteousness in his voice. ''There you are...'' Arnold grinned to himself as his hand touched what seemed to be a lever of some kind. With a pull of the device the whole area was flooded with light. ''Thanks to someone turning the mains on these all seem to work now.'' Not knowing it but the Ixa'taka woman was the one to turn on the main power. The first thing Arnold saw was the tunnel they had both fallen down, it was indeed ridiculously steep but obviously done by a machine. ''How would a tunnel like this benefit a mine?'' Arnold asked as he then spotted the tracks that came from the tunnel. Turning his head he followed the tracks, his body slowly turned with him. Just as he turned around he almost lost balance as he was shocked to find he was literally standing on the edge of an under ground cliff. ''That could not of ended well.'' He said as he got his balance back and took a few steppes away from the edge. The tracks running from the tunnel went right across the ground and over the edge of the cliff. With the light it was clear to see just where they where. The tunnel was clearly new and that they where on a raised platform with control panels which over looked a giant room. Running parallel across the walls from the platform they where on where to long metal bridges. Arnold took a quick look over the edge of the platform but the room was so deep that it was still dark down there. ''Must be more lights around here?'' He looked for another switch. It did not take long to locate the second switch as it was on the opposite side, next to the Ixa'taka woman. ''Could you pull that?'' He pointed at the switch next to her. A second set of lights slightly lower down came to life, lighting up the ground level of the room that they where above. ''You must be joking....'' Arnold said in a soft yet worried voice as he looked over the edge of the platform. ''Well, I guess that answers my question...'' As far as he could see the whole room was full of savage looking people, yet they where not Valaun's. The whole area was occupied by the Ixa'taka slaves who had clearly gone the same way as the Valuan's had gone. Yet a few of them seemed to be holding bones in their hands just like clubs. Quickly crouching down Arnold moved out of their sight. ''Don't make any sudden sound.'' He advised while looking about for a way out. The tunnel was not happening as it was far too steep to climb out off. ''Let's hope they can't see us too.'' He whispered as he raised his head over the side to take another look down on the savages. ''See there!'' He pointed out, There was what seemed to be a lift at the end of the room. ''No idea if it's working but I don't see any other way out?'' Lance kept on looking across the sea of Savage slaves, which was when he spotted some remains. ''Seems fair on both sides.'' He said, noting the many parts of blood stained Valuan armor that littered the ground around the slaves. ''The Valuan's clearly control the upper floors here.'' Arnold wondered. ''The slaves easy out number the Valuan's so they would of taken the upper ground if they could, which means.....'' Arnold worried, if there was a way up the slaves would of taken it buy now and took over the Valuan's ground. ''But wait, there are Valuan remains down here....so there must be a way that they know off and not the slaves..'' Arnold stood up and looked over the edge, it seemed they had time to think as even if the creatures looked up at them they would not see them on the account of being blind. ''Hey...'' Arnold addressed his comrade. ''See someone out of place?'' He pointed towards the back of the large group. At the back was a man wearing Green armor with bright gold trim, not what your average Mine worker would wear. Unlike the savage slaves he was not shuffling around but standing still while they moved around him. He was hard to make out because of the distance but his armor was clearly blood stained and his hair was a dirty white, almost matching his eyes. ''Why is there a Valuan savage among them?'' Arnold could not figure out why this man was not being torn apart. Just then the figure raised his arm and pointed his finger almost in the right direction of the two of them followed by a loud scream that echoed around the room. As soon as he opened his mouth every Slave in the room turned their head's as if to look at the two height above them. ''See you on the other side..'' Arnold said as he took a hold of his sword. The slaves all rushed to the wall that connected the platform the where on and slowly one by one they started to scare the wall like animals, digging their fingers into the rock. The tips of their fingers lacked flesh as they dug with the bone to climb up to their target. Arnold grinned and flicked his hair, ''It's a good day to die....But I have a ball tonight so today just wont do.'' With that Arnold jumped over the side of the platform he was on just as the first savage slave's head appeared to face them. He took his sword pointed down he landed on the climbing slave, the sword digging into his head killing him in an instance. With his weight on the dead slave he pushed it down the wall while gripping onto it's back, using the slave like a sledge to slide down the wall. As soon as Arnold landed he spun around with his sword out to clear a small area around himself. The slaves may of been quicker than the Valuan's but with no armor and the same conditions as them they where easy to take out. Just before the next lot rushed him Arnold had a few seconds to locate the Valuan savage. He was still standing at the very back of the room behind the large number of slaves. (The boss has appeared however he can not yet be harmed or approached. The Ixa'taka slaves have turned the same way as the Valuan guards, blind but with better hearing and smell. The lack of armor makes them easy to kill but much quicker at moving. Not all but a few of them know how to use bones and other items like clubs, yet their aim is almost always at random.) |

Kokyrie couldn't help but smile at the charming soldier's reply. "This isn't the sort of place you would bring a lady too though." She giggled girlishly, enjoying the momentary flirtation. But then it was back to business for the both of them. They moved on with Arnold leading the way. Their direction was easy to determine since the two of them had met coming from two different directions, leaving only one left to go. They paused for a moment so that Arnold could light a broken supply crate on fire. Recalling how strong the scent of a single match had been earlier Kokyrie had to applaud his tactics. The smoke would effectively kill the soldiers' sense of smell for quite a while. So long as they moved quietly the two of them could bypass many of them without a fight. But in the moment they were still fair game. "Hold them off!" Arnold called to her. Kokyrie nodded in understanding and fell to a crouch. She propped her elbow on her knee and took careful aim down the tunnel. She could hear the soldiers approaching, perhaps a half-dozen of them. Kokyrie narrowed her eyes and waited for them to come within her line of sight. A few heartbeats later and they did. But Kokyrie held her fire until they soldiers were halfway down the corridor. They were moving in a mob but she only had a clear shot at the one in front. That was perfect for what she had in mind. Kokyrie fired a crossbow bolt into the knee of the lead soldier. Even with his sense of pain dulled he still fell, his wounded knee unable to support his weight. He toppled over and the soldiers rushing behind him fell over his fallen body. "That should keep them busy for a while." Kokyrie smirked. Behind her the broken box was blazing steadily and Arnold was moving on. She fell in behind him, easily keeping pace with the armored pirate. A few of the soldiers followed, bumbling through the fire in the process. The smell of charred flesh mingled with that of wood smoke. "Down there!" Arnold called out, pointing out a passageway they hadn't noticed before. Kokyrie followed him into it, listening carefully for the slightest sound of movement within. It was quiet compared to the one at their backs and seemed safe enough for the moment. "I don't think they're following." Arnold whispered. He was right. They had shaken the soldiers' pursuit, at least for now. The floor ahead of them suddenly dropped on a steep grade and Arnold lost his footing. Kokyrie winced at every scrape and clang of his metal armor as he slid down into the darkness. If any of the soldiers hadn't heard it too they were surely deaf as well as blind. Ever the experiences sailor Kokyrie's sea-legs adjusted instantly to the change in the ground's level. She half-slid and half-walked down the slope to join Lance at the bottom. Helping him to his feet Kokyrie stood silently in the darkness and hoping to the Green Moon they hadn't just arrived in a room full of the ghoulish soldiers. Her fears were confirmed a moment later by Arnold. ''You hear that?' He asked quietly. "Yeah. And I don't like what I'm hearing." Kokyrie answered. Her sharp ears detected the low shuffle of movement and the quiet rasp of breathing. But it seemed to be coming from a distance and the angle was off. The tunnel must have been distorting the sound in a strange way. ''Not the best of times but the names Lance, Arnold Lance!'' Came Arnold's introduction from the gloom. Again Kokyrie was struck with familiarity. She was certain she'd heard the name before but still couldn't quite place it. "Kokyrie." She replied simply. "Just plain old Kokyrie." And then Arnold's voice called from the darkness again, stating that he'd found a light switch. He flipped it on and the room was bathed in light. "Watch you step!" Kokyrie called out a second later. The Valuan pirate was standing only inches away from the face of a steep cliff. ''That could not of ended well.'' Arnold gasped as he stepped away. Then the two of them took a look around the room they were in. The Valuan seemed interested in the tracks running across the floor and the control panels mounted on the wall. Kokyrie crouched down at the edge of the cliff and peered into the darkness below. She got the feeling that it was a long way to the ground and, judging from the sounds she'd been hearing since they'd arrived, they would be in for a nasty reception if they descended to the lower level. ''Must be more lights around here?'' Arnold thought aloud. A moment later and he added; ''Could you pull that?'' Kokyrie glanced up to see a second lever on the wall next to her. "I'm not so sure I want to see what's down there." She muttered but pulled the lever anyway. The light illuminated the darkness below and revealed exactly what she'd been expecting to see. "So many." Kokyrie sighed to herself. The sight of so many of her own people in the same wretched state as the Valuan soldiers above struck a haunting chord within her soul. "There must be a whole tribe down there." She added, mentally tallying up the number of savages that occupied the floor below. ''Don't make any sudden sound.'' Arnold hissed. ''Let's hope they can't see us too.'' But Kokyrie didn't need to be told. She sat quiet and still upon the ledge, looking down upon the sea of corrupted humanity. Her eyes were drawn to the lift that Arnold pointed out. It did seem to be their only route of escape but the horde of cannibals stood between it and them. Arnold speculated about the interpersonal dynamics of this underground realm but Kokyrie scarcely heard him. Her eyes were locked upon one of the cannibal tribesmen who stood out from the others. ''See someone out of place?'' Arnold asked, taking note of the Valuan soldier's presence as well. "Yeah. He's wearing the armor of a 5th Fleet officer I think." Kokyrie answered without taking her eyes off of the out-of-place soldier. "But why isn't he up above with the rest of his ilk?" Before either of them could speculate on his presence the officer seemed to notice them despite the distance. I single cry from him sent the Ixa'takan savages rushing towards the cliff. "See you on the other side." Arnold gasped. ''It's a good day to die....But I have a ball tonight so today just wont do.'' He added with a smile, bringing a grin to Kokyrie's lips as well. "Now that's the sort of event you're supposed to bring a lady to." Kokyrie laughed. "If we live through this I'll grace your arm with my presence." And then Arnold was gone, disappearing over the cliff. ~ Kokyrie glanced down at the Valuan as he made his way to the floor of the chamber, riding atop a dead cannibal as if he were a sled. "That guy's insane." Kokyrie muttered to herself. "I'm not going down there." One of the keys to living a long life was knowing one's own limitations. Kokyrie was pretty handy with a spear or a knife and could hold her own in battle. But going up against these sorts of odds wasn't within the scope of her abilities. Instead she chose to hold her position atop the cliff and fight the best way she knew how; by sniping her enemies from a distance. She noted that some of the cannibals were climbing up the wall towards her so she withdrew her pick-axe and laid it close at hand. For a time Kokyrie was able to hold her position. She alternated between dropping any of the cannibals who were getting too close to Arnold with her crossbow and smashing the skulls of the ones who climbed within reach of her pick-axe. But then the inevitable happened. Kokyrie was so intent upon targeting one of the savages on the floor below that she didn't notice one of them creeping up the wall right at her feet. The top of its head appeared over the lip of the cliff, followed by a pair of bloodied hands that grasped Kokyrie's ankle. In sudden surprise she lashed out, kicking him in the face. The force of the blow dislodged the savage from the wall and he fell, still clutching Kokyrie's flailing limb, dragging her along with him. Kokyrie could do nothing except close her eyes as the floor rushed up to greet her. ~ "Ow, damn it." Kokyrie moaned. She must have blacked out for a moment but it didn't take her long to collect her thoughts and realize that she was in serious danger. All around her the savage tribesmen were milling about, searching for fresh meat. One of them was even lying on top of her and she feared for a few seconds that she was being attacked. But then Kokyrie recalled the fall and realized the savage she was lying beneath had been knocked unconscious when they'd struck the ground. Right now his prone form was like a blind, masking her scent beneath his own so that the others could not find her. But she couldn't stay in this position for much longer. He'd be waking up any moment now. Kokyrie quietly shifted the savage to one side and eased herself out form under him. Rising quietly to her feet she glanced about and located Arnold. He was drawing a lot of attention to him but seemed to be fending the tribesmen off. She was also happy to find her crossbow lying on the ground nearby and quickly retrieved it. She still had plenty of arrows but her pick-axe had been left at the top of the cliff. On silent feet Kokyrie began making her way over to where Arnold was. If she could join up with him they could watch each others' back. Thankfully she still had the dead soldier's sleeves on her arms to mask her scent so creeping around the savage tribesmen wouldn't be so difficult. *sniiiff* Came the sound of one of them smelling the air as she passed. Suddenly his blind eyes turned in her direction and he bared his teeth in anger. "Enemy! Kill!" He screamed. It wasn't until then that Kokyrie realized that having the scent of one of the soldiers was even worse. They were the mortal enemies of these tribal savages and now she was being perceived not as food, but as a threat. "Oh hell!" Kokyrie cried as she tore the sleeves off and tossed them into the face of the nearest savage. He was quickly assaulted by two more who were homing in on the Valuan's stench. But more still were now coming for her. "Arnold!" Kokyrie screamed as she made a dash for him. "A little help here!" |

More and more of the savage Ixa'taka slaves started to move in on Arnold as he flung his blade downwards to clear it of the blood. ''They just keep coming!'' He moaned to himself as he looked around for a way out. Unfortunately he had seemed to of put himself into a corner, quickly figuring out that jumping down and trying to take them all on was not the best of plans. ''What I'll do to impress a woman.'' He muttered as he looked up to check on Kokyrie who was out of sight above him. ''Well I have a ball to host tonight and you, savages won't delay me!'' Arnold shoved his sword forwards into the face of an approaching Savage. The blade entered the man's open mouth and penetrated out of the back of his neck. A grin appeared on Arnold's own face, noting that their skin had become some what weaker than it once was. A few quick slashes did not seem to slow them down, he had to get in closer he thought. That was until his backed into a metal tube sticking out from the wall. The sound of his armor hitting against the metal caused the approaching group to move their attention towards the wall. Walking into it they started to claw at the wall as if the wall itself was their new target. This allowed Arnold to move out from the corner and to a safe area, safe until they started to move in on his sent again. Just then something caught his attention from the corner of his eye. At first he thought more slaves where falling down from Kokyrie's above attack but it wasn't until she hit the ground that he realized that she had fallen. Arnold tried to dash over to her but his armor rattles and caught the unwanted attention of a group of savages. ''Darn it all!'' He said as he started to lash out with his blade. "Arnold!" Kokyrie screamed as she made her way towards him. That was all he needed to hear to get the motivation to end the creatures around him. He ducked down and slashed at their legs. Cutting into their ankles the closest ones lost their balance and toppled over which in turn cased the ones close behind to follow. "A little help here!" Kokyrie called out as Arnold had just finished taking care of the small group. ''We need a way out of here.'' Arnold knew that she also knew this as he stood by her side. ''Wait, that's it!'' Arnold's attention was focused down the middle of the savages at the very end of the room. ''Can you still run?'' He asked Kokyrie, offering her a hand if she needed it. Arnold looked over at the metal tube that he had hit before, seeing that it ran against the wall all the way down the side of the room. As a mine the floor was covered in mine tracks and there where still a few mine carts around, some with tools still in them. ''I have a plan, We will need to clear the area first!'' Arnold took his sword and started to take down the savages that where closest to Kokyrie. As soon as he felt she would be ok he moved away from her, ''See that mine cart?'' He pointed out in a soft voice, ''Get ready to push it!'' He winked at her. ~ The mine cart in question was on a track that ran right down the room. Arnold came to the metal tube and as soon as it was in reach he started to bash it with his sword. The loud sound of the metal tube rattling was sent down the tube. Almost in perfect unison the savages raised their head's and looked at the wall. They all then started to slowly stumble towards it with their arms out and mouths open. ''Ok now, I'm right behind you!'' Arnold said as he quickly made his way back to Kokyrie. Almost all the savages had wondered over to the one side of the room leaving the middle section where the track was empty, yet there where the odd few still standing in the way. ''Go, Just knock them down!'' Arnold said as he helped push the cart upto speed. It was not his first time in a situation such as this as he thought back to past encounters. ''At least there still alive this time.'' He mumbled to himself. ~ ''Darn it!'' Arnold said as they came to the end of the line. The door that he thought looked open was like the rest bolted shut, or so it seemed. On a closer inspection the door was not blocked shut but locked. Arnold reached out and held the lock in his hand. It was a simple lock, one key was all it needed. ''Seems we have a smart one.'' Arnold let go of the lock allowing it to swing back down and clash against the door. He took a hold of his sword and turned around to take on the oncoming savages. ''What?'' To Arnold's surprise as he turned he saw something very unexpected. The whole room was almost empty. All he caught a glimpse off where the savages climbing up the walls of the room and into tunnels not unlike the ones they saw back above with the Valuans. Even the dead Ixa'taka slaves that they had both taken out where being taken away, but not out of respect and Arnold caught sight of one of the savages tearing the arm off of one with his mouth. The Black Pirate looked around the almost empty room with a look of confusion on his face. ''Do they know something we don't?'' He wondered out loud. ''Or hear something we can't....'' Arnold said just as his ears picked up the soft sound of something rumble. The ground suddenly started to shake as the sound got closer and closer. Just then the sound burst out from a close by tunnel. ''This won't end well.'' Lance said as he prepared himself to move at the first sight of danger. Just then the tunnel became filled with a massive spinning drill. Nothing else could been seen as the drill was a perfect fit for the tunnel. Like a savage beast the drill picked up speed and came bursting from the tunnel right towards where Arnold and Kokyrie stood. ''Move it!'' Arnold yelled as he rushed to the left of the machine which went speeding by them. For some reason it did not seem like it was aimed at them but it was too close for comfort. The machine slowed down as it passed them both, turning slightly and coming to a stop sideways on to the two. The Machine was clearly of Valuan origin, dark green and covered in Valuan emblems. The front half was nothing but a giant drill while the back half had what looked like four arms that could pick up metal mine poles that are used to hold the tunnels up with no problems. The drill had signs of being under ground for too long, dirt covered it along with rust. Yet the most disturbing thing was the amount of blood that covered not only the machine but the drill itself. The fact it had a single small connon on each side did not bother Arnold. It was very unlikely that it had any ammo after all the years down there or if they even worked any more. Just then the hatch in the center opened up while Arnold watched on with keen interest. He hoped that someone had come to help them but something else told him he already knew who was inside. The man stood up from the hatch, his white hair had stripes of blood and his eyes where as pure white as the others down there. His Armor was green with gold trim, the same as the Valuan they saw when they first came down to this level. Around his right leg was Ixa'taka cloth, but not just any. The pattern seemed to be some kind of sign, what that was Arnold had no idea. What he was more interested in was the fact that on this Valuan's right shoulder was a skull. ''Who and why..'' Arnold thought. If this Valuan was sided with the Ixa'taka savages it would have to off been a Valuan but then there where so many why this skull? The second thing he noticed was that on his left arm he had tied a broken bone that had clearly been used like a weapon. ''A smart on is he?'' Arnold said softly. ''Valuan...'' The man pointed at Arnold while his head faced the wrong direction. ''Slave..'' He turned his head in yet another wrong direction but his finger pointed at Kokyrie. ''We never.... see light..... again.'' It was not clear if this was a question of a threat. However now was not the time to question it was the valuan jumped back down into the drill. As soon as the hatch closed the drill started to spin upto speed. ''We better move.'' Arnold suggested casually, knowing that the fight was about to become very one sided. With that the machine turned and faced the two of them. A loud scream came from the valuan inside as the machine rushed at the two, missing only by an inch on both sides it knocked both Arnold and Kokyrie to opposite sides of the room. The drill turned into a curve as it came around for another hit, rushing towards Kokyrie and Arnold. (Blind has started his attack. You can fight back but against a Valuan machine such as this your not going to do much damage right now.) Edited by Daiohma, Aug 1 2012, 01:51 PM.

Kokyrie made a mad dash towards Arnold, weaving through the savages as best she could. There were many of them but their lack of sight made it difficult for them to sense her presence over a distance. Still, a couple of the cannibalistic tribesmen did block her path. Raising her crossbow, Kokyrie loaded up an arrow and brought one of them down with a shot that drove into its skull. Then, without breaking stride, she barreled into a second slave, knocking him to the ground with a hard elbow to his chest. Reaching Arnold's side Kokyrie took a moment to draw back her crossbow's string and load another arrow. ''We need a way out of here.'' The Valuan pirate said to her. "And here I was thinking of building a summer home down here." Kokyrie answered with a wry grin. "But that Valuan slave-boss over there is blocking the only way I see...wait, where'd he go?" She cut herself off when she realized the armored savage was not where they'd last seen him. ''Wait, that's it!'' Arnold exclaimed. It seemed he'd come up with a plan. ''Can you still run?'' "Like a ferlith." Kokyrie responded, waving away his offer of assistance. "But I hope your plan involves more than just that." ''I have a plan, We will need to clear the area first!'' Came Arnold's reply as he cut down a couple of the slaves who were creeping too close. ''See that mine cart? Get ready to push it!'' "Alright, you can leave that to me." Kokyrie agreed. She could see where Lance was going with this. He moved off in the opposite direction to carry out whatever he had in mind, leaving her to secure their escape route. Kokyrie began by putting an arrow through the throat of one of the slaves who was standing between her and the mine cart. Loping over to it Kokyrie was pleased to see that there were a few tools left inside of it, including an old shovel. Choosing it as the best of the lot she lifted it out of the cart and inspected it. The shovel's head was old and rusted but did not appear damaged. Its wooden shaft showed signs of aging but was also intact. Slinging her crossbow over her shoulder Kokyrie stepped forward, wielding the shovel like a spear. She had received training in the use of that weapon as a child in Ixa'ness and had learned a few Yafutoman fighting techniques from her old lover, Shingen. The shovel would make for a better weapon than the pick-axe she'd been carrying earlier. "Food. Meat!" One of the savages cried when he caught her scent. Kokyrie stepped forward to meet his charge, thrusting the shovel into his mid-section. Its edge was too dull to part his flesh but the blow doubled him over for a moment. While he was bent over Kokyrie swung the shovel upward into his face, pitching him over backwards. A second slave heard the noise and honed in on it. "I smell your blood!" He croaked in a voice thick with an Ixa'takan accent. As he drew near Kokyrie bashed him upside the head with the shovel. He stumbled to one side and, while he was off balance, she reversed her swing and knocked his legs out from beneath him. The slave's head struck the iron cart-rail as he fell, knocking him out cold. Suddenly Kokyrie was seized from behind by one of the savages. The warmth of blood mixed with the sting of pain as he bit into her shoulder. With a cry of pain Kokyrie braced her foot against the mine cart and pushed off, sending both herself and her assailant to the ground. The fall broke his hold on her and Kokyrie scrambled to her feet. Her hand went instinctively to her wounded shoulder and came back covered in blood. It was only a shallow wound but it hurt like hell. The bloodthirsty savage clambered to his feet and began sniffing the air. He picked up on the scent of her blood almost immediately and renewed his assault. But Kokyrie was already moving to counter him. She hooked the head of the shovel behind his ankle and gave it a hard pull, tripping him. No sooner had the slave's head struck the ground than the shovel came down atop it, crushing his skull. The blow sent a wave of pain up her arm to jar her wounded shoulder. Kokyrie fought down the urge to vomit. Breathing hard and feeling nauseous from the pain Kokyrie took a quick look around to see if any of the slaves were nearby. Oddly enough they were all being drawn in the direction that Arnold have went. A second later and Kokyrie realized the ringing sound she was hearing was not coming from her own head. The Valuan pirate was causing the noise and the slave's were moving towards it. Safe for the moment Kokyrie reached into her shirt and withdrew a Green Moon Stone flaked into the shape of an arrowhead suspended from her neck on a leather thong. "Moons...heed my call." She muttered, summoning the healing magic to close her wound and ease the pain. The torn flesh on her shoulder mended itself and the pain subsided. ~ No sooner had she finished healing herself than Arnold returned. ''Ok now, I'm right behind you!'' Kokyrie nodded in understanding and together they pushed the cart down the track. It lurched into motion with a squeal of rusted metal but thanks to the Valuan's plan there weren't many of the slaves near enough to react to the sound. Only a few stragglers stood in their path. ''Go, Just knock them down!'' Arnold shouted to her as one of them wandered onto the track. "Keep pushing!" Kokyrie responded. "I'll do you one better!" Kokyrie leapt into the mine cart as it rolled onward. She hefted her shovel and swung it with all her might just as the slave came within its reach. He pitched backwards off of the track and out of the cart's path. "Give me your hand!" Kokyrie offered to help Arnold inside as well. The cart was rolling smoothly now with plenty of momentum behind it. It would deliver the two of them to the far end of the chamber more quickly than if they'd been forced to run the whole way. Kokyrie drew her crossbow again, prepared to snipe any of the slaves who got too close for comfort but for some reason there seemed to be less and less of them the farther they went. She found this curious but wasn't about to look a gift que'lak in the mouth. Soon they arrived at the end of the line. Kokyrie leapt out of the mine cart just before it ploughed to a jarring halt against a guard rail. They were now in the vicinity of where they armored Valuan had been earlier but there was still no sign of him. "Where'd that bucket-head get off to?" Kokyrie wondered aloud. Behind her Arnold was struggling to open the door. "Seems we have a smart one." Kokyrie turned to see what he was on about. The door was locked with a heavy padlock. "I'll give you three guesses who has the key." Kokyrie grumbled. "And two of them don't count." By now Arnold had also noticed the sudden disappearance of the slaves. ''Do they know something we don't? 'Or hear something we can't....'' He asked in obvious confusion. "Probably. But I don't plan to wait around to find out what." Kokyrie answered. "I think we should follow their lead and look for..." The floor began to tremble violently, cutting Kokyrie off. The source of the disturbance appeared a few seconds later. It was revealed to be a huge mechanical drill that appeared from one of the side tunnels and came racing across the floor towards them. "Move it!" Arnold called out a warning and threw himself to one side. Kokyrie dove in the opposite direction, rolling into a crouch and bringing her crossbow up into a firing position in one smooth motion. But she could tell on sight that taking a shot as the machine would be a waste of an arrow. Her weapon wouldn't have any sort of effect on the iron beast. Not unless she could get a clear shot at the person who was operating it. Kokyrie didn't have any doubt that the armored Valuan from before was behind its controls right now. Her suspicions were confirmed when the machine's hatch opened and he emerged from within. ''Valuan...'Slave..'' He addressed the two of them, mistaking them for his fellow cave-dwellers. ''We never.... see light..... again.'' "You'll be seeing the light soon enough." Kokyrie snarled as she took aim at the Valuan and launched an arrow towards his head. It arched towards him with perfect accuracy but missed its mark. At the last second the armored savage's head dropped beneath its trajectory as he leapt back down into the drill's cabin. "Damn it!" Kokyrie swore. She fumbled to rearm her weapon but it was too late for a second shot. ''We better move.'' Arnold suggested as the drill started up again. Kokyrie eyed the machine doubtfully. "Can he even see where he's going?" The armored Valuan was quick to answer her question. With a loud cry he launched the drill straight towards them. Blind though he was he somehow managed to target them. The huge drill spun rapidly, tearing up the ground as it rumbled forward. Kokyrie tried to leap aside but lost her footing in the upheaval and was tossed to the ground several feet away. "Whoa, better not get to close to that end again." She groaned as she picked herself up off the ground. Kokyrie studied the machine for a moment, scrutinizing it carefully in search of a weak point. It was too large and too well armored for her to try and damage it but perhaps she could try and board it the next time it slowed down. There were also the narrow openings on the side of the cabin. A well-placed arrow through one of those could easily kill the machine's operator, rendering it harmless. Collecting her wits and making certain her crossbow was loaded and ready to fire Kokyrie began moving towards the machine. She reckoned it would be moving too quickly during its charge to trifle with but it might slow down enough for her to take action while its operator was turning it around for another run at them. "This isn't the smartest plan I've ever come up with." Kokyrie muttered to herself. "I wonder if Arnold has a better one." |

"Can he even see where he's going?" Arnold caught Kokyrie's words as he rolled out of the way of the large drill machine. He managed to get out of the way just in time but saw Kokyrie fall close to the drill. It was a close call but Arnold was pleased to see that she was fine as the Valuan machine past by tearing up the ground as it went on. "Can he even see where he's going?" Arnold repeated Kokyrie's question to himself as the drill started to slow down again as the machine came to a slow stop at the other end of the room. The Black pirate knew that the time it would take him to run over to the machine it would of already turned and started up again and so he thought about the question. ''Even with eyes that machine was not designed with forwards sight in mind.'' Arnold examined the large drill that covered the front of the machine. He then thought about the possibility of the Valuan's sense of smell but shook his head at this. ''Even at this distance and with all that dirt being tossed around, surly not.'' The drill finally came to a stop as the machine started to turn yet again to face his direction. Arnold took this moment to check on Kokyrie, looking over he saw that she seemed fine. Her crossbow at the ready she had the determined look of a hunter on her face. ''Maybe, if she got close?'' His eyes focused on her weapon. Just then his attention was shifted back to the Valuan machine as the noise of the drill starting broke the momentary silence. ''That's it!'' He muttered to himself as he stood up ready to dodge the attack once more. He looked over at Kokyrie for a second, knowing that she could take care of herself. The drill by now was spinning at it's top speed once more. ''It can't go for both of us!'' Arnold said as the machine started to move forwards, and he was right. The drill went over to one side of the room, the side that Arnold was standing. ''Get to the other side!'' Arnold called over to Kokyrie as he started to run towards the wall. Just as the drill was only a few meters away from slicing him up Arnold jumped at the wall and using his legs he kicked at the wall allowing him to gain that little extra height that was just enough for him to dodge the drill. The machine hit the side of the wall causing most of the section to crumble away, showing how unstable the mine had become over the years. Arnold landed on his feet, almost turning the motion into a dance. He quickly ran to catch up with Kokyrie as the drill carried on until it reached the other side of the room. ''Wait for it.'' Arnold said as the machine turned to allow it's side to face their direction once more. The drill just like the last time and time before started to slow down again. ''You hear that?'' Arnold asked softly as the drill came to a stop. Without the drill spinning or the machine moving the only other sounds in the room where the soft sound of their moving feet, Arnold's armor and Kokyrie's weapons. ''I bet he can even hear our breathing.'' Arnold said, guessing Kokyrie had also figured by now that the drill kept stopping so that the Valuan could hear where they were in the room. ''The second that drill starts up he has no idea where we are.'' Arnold finally had his cocky grin back as he spotted the silhouette of the Valuan in the gaps of the control section of the machine. ''He knows where we are.'' Lance took out his sword, making should that the sound of the metal blade could be heard. Just like he predicted the machine started to turn to face them as the drill once more started to spin back upto speed. ''Time to move.'' Arnold said as he ran to one side while lining up the machine's direction to where he had been standing. It was a gamble but if he was right then the drill would pass by him with only a couple of meters distance between them. Within that moment the drill was at it's top speed and the machine took off towards them. Just as he had planned the machine passed by Lance with a meter to spare. ''Let's go!'' Arnold yelled as he jumped moments before the machine passed him. He reached for the small Valuan style cannon on the side of the main body. Almost missing it with his hand the passing cannon took his arm and carried him onto the side of the drill. He took a moment to catch his breath which worked out as at the same time the machine turned and came to another stop. Arnold climbed onto the top of the machine where the hatch was, using the slowing down of the drill to cover up any noise he made. He stopped in his tracks at the room once more went silent. Both his hands where against the top of the hatch as he looked around for a way to open it. It seemed as if there was no way to open it once someone was inside, a design to stop the slaves trying to get in and take control probably. There was a awkward moment of silence, Arnold did not want to make the slightest sound and he guessed Kokyrie figured it was best to keep silent when the machine stopped. 'What you going to do now.' Arnold thought to himself as he grinned, believing they had this guy. The Black Pirate's grin soon disappeared when the silence was broken by the sound of someone sniffing the air. It was coming from just behind the hatch which flung open and smacked Arnold in his face. He was only dizzy for a moment and when he opened his eyes he found himself face to face with the savage Valuan. ''Too close!'' He screamed at Arnold as he took a swing at him. Arnold ducked as his fist went on over his head. The Valuan Black pirate raised his head thinking that was the only attack but no sooner as the savage took a swing at him the other arm came at him too. With no time to duck again Arnold raised his arm, moving it to the side of the savage's arm. The metal of their armor clashed as Arnold pushed his arm to one side avoiding contact with his own head. As this happen Lance could not help but notice the broken bone that was attached to the Valuan's armor, a clear sign that he was indeed the smart one to use such a thing as a weapon and to have it as part of his armor to keep his hands free. Just as Arnold thought the attacks had stopped the Valuan moved his head in close and let out a scream that caught Arnold off guard. This was followed up with a clash of their heads as the savage smashed his own head against Arnold's, making him lose balance and fall from the top of the machine. ''open...'' The savage muttered as he turned to look in Kokyrie's direction before dropping quickly back into the hatch. It would of seemed that he knew Kokyrie had a weapon that could hit from a distance and did not want to be in the open for long. ''Guy has a hard head....'' Arnold tried to stand up as he held his own head. Yet before he could get himself to his feet as strange noise came from the machine. It was no the sound of the machine moving or the drill starting up again. Over head something moved fast, some thing that looked like a long tentacle or sorts made from metal. Just then Arnold felt himself being lifted from the ground as something took a hold of him. It was a claw like arm from the back of the machine which would of been used to put up the metal safety polls to keep the tunnels open that the drill created. However it was now being used to lift Arnold into the air, and with a quick flick it tossed him across the room towards Kokyrie. ''No move, no move!!'' The savage Valuan yelled before letting out a loud scream. As Arnold hit the ground he looked up at the tunnels nearby. ''I don't like the sound of that.'' He said as the shadowy figures of the Ixa'taka savages appeared in the tunnels closest to them. Within second they both found themselves surrounded by the savages which meant they would have to think fast as they where joined by the sound of the drill starting up once more. |

"When in doubt, watch." Kokyrie breathed an old Ixa'ness hunter's adage. In a nutshell it meant that when stalking an unfamiliar beast it was best to observe its actions for a while before trying to bring it down. That way the hunter would be able to bring it down at the most opportune moment rather than blunder into an unexpected reprisal by acting carelessly. That was pretty much the situation Kokyrie found herself in now. She wasn't certain if she'd seen all that the huge drill was capable of or even how Blind was operating it with his lack of senses. And so, for the moment, she would simply hang back and watch his movements until she could come up with some kind of strategy to take him down. ''Even with eyes that machine was not designed with forwards sight in mind.'' Arnold answered her previous question even though it had been rhetorical. "His nose then?" Kokyrie suggested. "Is he tracking our scent like before?" ''Even at this distance and with all that dirt being tossed around, surly not.'' Came Arnold's reply. Kokyrie furrowed her brow in thought. "That just leaves his ears. But....no way." Just then the drill came around and started gaining speed for another charge. ''That's it!'' Arnold called over the noise of its engine. ''It can't go for both of us! Get to the other side!'' "Is he playing at being a decoy?" Kokyrie wondered as she moved in the opposite direction he was going once again. "Or does Can Head just like him better?" Sure enough the drill went after Arnold, plowing into the wall in the pilot's fervor to reach him. Arnold managed to avoid the impact with some impressive footwork and quickly moved to rejoin her. The drill, scarcely slowed by its impact, tore free and sped to the other side of the chamber. ''You hear that?'' Arnold asked softly as the drill came to a stop. ''I bet he can even hear our breathing.'' Kokyrie had guess as much but still found it hard to believe. But thinking back on how Blind had located them from so far away when they'd first arrived in this chamber she had to admit that it was probably the truth. "I get it now. He's shutting off the machine to get his bearings before he makes another run at us." She surmised. "But he's a clever beast." She added. "He's putting a lot of distance between us and him before he stops. No way we could reach him before the machine starts moving again." ''The second that drill starts up he has no idea where we are.'' Arnold continued along on their train of thought. Now Kokyrie was starting to understand how Blind operated, figuratively and literally. "So he's aiming for the spot where he last heard us." Kokyrie finished. "So if we move out of the way the moment the drill starts up he'll miss us every time." ''He knows where we are.'' Arnold warned her as the drill prepared for another charge. 'Time to move.'' ~ "Let's go!" Arnold yelled as the machine tore past them again. As they'd suspected it barreled through the spot where'd they'd been standing only a moment earlier. But this time they were both ready for it. The Valuan pirate managed to board the machine but Kokyrie had an idea of her own. "Lucky he didn't lose an arm." She muttered, loping after the machine on foot. As before the drill slowed down when it reached the far end of the chamber. Only this time it carried a passenger. Kokyrie could clearly see Arnold trying to open the cabin's hatch to launch a surprise attack against Blind but it appeared to be locked. Kokyrie smiled. The hunt was nearing its end and her patience were about to pay off. The drill coasted to a stop and its hatch burst open in Arnold's face. Blind's upper body came into view and the two armored Valuans exchanged a series of punches. Kokyrie was still some distance away but that had been part of her plan all along. Even at this distance Blind was still within reach of her weapon. "Gotcha." Kokyrie smirked as she raised her crossbow and took aim at Blind. Arnold was providing the perfect distraction right now. The savage Valuan would never even see her attack coming. Unfortunately Arnold's presence was also providing Blind with a perfect shield. "Lance, move!" Kokyrie growled. The Valuan pirate was blocking her shot at their mutual opponent. Before she could get a clear shot Blind caught wise of what she was doing. ''open...'' He gasped as he dropped back into the drill's cabin. Kokyrie clucked her tongue in irritation and lowered her crossbow. It was back to square one for her. Suddenly the drill revealed a new mode of attack. Some sort of hydraulic tendril extended from the rear of the machine, grabbed ahold of Arnold and flung him straight towards Kokyrie. She nimbly back-stepped to avoid being struck by his armored form as he crashed to the ground. "Well that didn't work." Kokyrie sighed, helping Arnold to his feet. "And I'm fresh out of ideas." Just then Kokyrie's ears perked up as the quiet rustle of movement heralded the return of the blind savages. ''I don't like the sound of that.'' Arnold said. He had heard them too. The savages crept out of the tunnels and quickly surrounded the two of them. And yet they did not move in for the kill. She assumed they had been summoned to keep the two of them right where Blind wanted them. But that meant that the savages would also been in harm's way. And that gave her an idea. "Maybe its not so bad." Kokyrie answered. "With so many people moving around down here it's sure to confuse him. I think we can use that to our advantage." She explained what she had in mind. With the drill about to come at them again Kokyrie broke away from Arnold and stepped closer to the blind slaves. If she was right about this they wouldn't want to be anywhere near her when the drill started moving. |

The drill came rushing at them once more, yet this time they had less room to evade the attack as the savage Ixa'taka slaves where starting to now close in on them. "With so many people moving around down here it's sure to confuse him. I think we can use that to our advantage.'' Kokyrie seemed to have some sort of plan as she broke away from Arnold and approached the slaves. The Valuan had already started up the drill and was moving in for the kill so he had already guessed their location. Kokyrie was right to move out of the way as the slaves started to make an opening in their pack as if to allow the drill to enter the middle of their group and hit where Arnold and Kokyrie where standing. Yet this space was now empty as Kokyrie had moved closer to the blind savages with Arnold doing the same on the other side. The noise from the drill covered up their movement within the group while the sheer amount of dirt that was kicked up by the drill covered up their sent. The drill went on by, passing though the middle of the savages. Arnold knew as it passed by that the Valuan would more than likely turn it around and stop the drill just like before so that he could check if his target was hit or not. This allowed Arnold and kokyrie a few seconds to act before the room went silent again and the dirt settled back down. ''Wait a moment!'' Arnold thought to himself as he remembered the Valuans a few floor above them. The thought back to how they did not reach to being hit or burnt. The same thing was going on with these slaves too, they would climb the walls till their fingers where bloody yet did not seem to feel it. Arnold knew it was a risk as he looked over at Kokyrie. The black pirate placed his hands on the shoulders of a savage and slowly moved him slightly to the right. A smile shot across Arnold's face as what he expected was indeed right. They not only could not feel no more but they did not even seem to know when they where being moved by someone else. This explained why they wonder around in groups pushing against one another. With only sound and smell to go by they had the advantage in the dark but thanks to them the room was full of light. ''Another advantage to us.'' Arnold said, knowing that his voice would attract their attention. As soon as he spoke a scream came from the drill, a scream that he knew was another order to the slaves. Just as expected the slaves once again made a circle around the two of them as the drill turned to face them. The drill started up, spinning on the spot to get the max speed up. ''There goes their sound.'' Arnold shot a look over at Kokyrie. The drill then started to dash towards them, the large drill tossing dirt from the ground into the air. ''And that's their smell gone.'' Arnold took a hold of the closest savage and tossed him into the middle of the circle followed by another and another. The slaves fell on top of one another, not seeming to know what had just happened to them as within the short time that the attack took place they had no way of knowing anything. ''Now Kokyrie, get moving!'' Arnold called over to her as the drill came crashing into the group. Arnold rolled over out of the way as the drill smashed into the savages that where placed where Arnold had been standing. ''I have a plan!'' Arnold said as he made his way to the mine cart that they had used before. The machine passed on by, tossing parts of limbs into the air as it did. ''Keep quiet!'' Arnold smiled at Kokyrie as the drill once more turned and came to a stop. ''Food...'' Came the voice of one of the savages, yet it was not directed at Kokyrie or Arnold. The group of slaves started to move in on the few that had been crushed by the drill. ''Not waste none...'' Another said as he picked up a severed arm and took a bite. On the other side of the room the hatch to the drill machine slowly opened ever so slightly as Blind placed his ear to the gap. ''Hit?'' He muttered knowing he had hit something. Just then he pushed open the hatch and let out a scream that echoed all around. Not a scream of order but one that sounded like nothing more than anger. Just as quick as he was to open the hatch he jumped back down and turned the machine to face Arnold and Kokyrie. ''Seems food comes first?'' Arnold joked as it seemed the slaves where more interested in eating the fallen than do as Blind wanted which was to keep Arnold and kokyrie from moving. Arnold watched on, noticing that the drill was a little off this time thanks to them not making much noise and the slaves making alot with their eating. ''Should give him a hand really.'' Arnold shot a smirk over to Kokyrie. He reached into the mine cart and took out a shovel, then with all his might he smashed it a few times against the side of the cart. The noise rang out all over and just as expected the drill turned to face them dead on, but what Arnold was more interested in was the fact that the slaves did not seem to bother with the noise. ''Just as I said, food comes first.'' He pointed at the savages incase Kokyrie thought he had too lost his mind. Just before Blind could start up his drill again Arnold tossed the shovel into the nearest tunnel. Causing it to echo down the tunnel he quickly took a hand full of other tools from the mine cart and started to toss them into other tunnels nearby. ''Come and get it!'' He yelled as the shadowy figures of the savages started to appear from the darkness of the tunnels. ''Food?'' Voices came followed by the sound of sniffing as the savages made their way back into the main room. Some if not all right away located the few dead savages and started fighting over the 'food'. By this time Blind had already started up his drill and the machine was about to dash towards their location. ''This time we dodge and then run with the machine's direction!'' Arnold said. ''There is far too much noise now and that smell is really starting to bother even me!'' He was talking about the noise of the savages fighting over the dead and even killing one another for food. A heavy smell of blood and dirt covered the room too. The Drill dashed at them again, yet now knowing it's pattern and weakness Arnold casually steeped to one side with a smirk. As soon as it passed them by Arnold ran just behind it. ''The moment it stops we get inside, kick out the Valuan then ride that thing out of here!'' Arnold explained the last part of his plan to Kokyrie. Arnold kept up with the machine as it made it's way to the other side of the room. Covering his head now and then as the drill tossed slaves left and right as the room became filled with the savages once more. Just then Arnold stopped, ''Something's wrong.'' He said as the drill did not stop this time. It did not slow down and as a result it smashed into the wall of the room, the fast spinning drill cutting into the wall as the back wheels started to spin on the spot. Arnold stood facing the back of the machine with Kokyrie, ''What's his game?'' He asked confused as this was something different to what he had done before. ''He can't of known we where here, there is too much noise!'' Just then Arnold realized something he had not spotted before, probably as he had not yet had the chance to look at the machine close up before. On the back there seemed to be what he could only guess where sensors of sorts, almost like something he had seen in Valuan. Indeed these sensors where originally used for the machine to auto locate the metal polls and place them behind it as it drilled. Before Arnold could suggest running all four of the metal arms burst out from the machine and started to swing around. While three of them seemed to have no target the fourth went right for Kokyrie. ''Look out!'' Arnold yelled as he pushed her to the floor. The metal arm took a hold of him from behind and lifted him into the air. ''What I'll do for a pretty face.'' He muttered as he was swung around. His yelling attracted the attention of a group of slaves to wondered over to kokyrie's location. A few started to fall over onto her but the first one took off into the air as if by magic but it was in fact taken by one of the arms. A second arm came crashing down onto Kokyrie and took her as well. The forth arm picked up the mine cart, shacking it around causing the tools to fall all over. A few fell onto some slaves, slicing into their heads. As Arnold, Kokyrie, the slave and mine cart where flung around Arnold could not help but notice that the drill was still spinning at top speed against the wall. ''Cover your mouth!'' Arnold called over to Kokyrie, guessing he knew what was about to happen. Just like he expected the front tracks of the drill started to angle themselves into a upwards position and then without warning the machine pushed forwards at an alarming speed. The wall seemed to shatter under the power of the drill and the machine dug upwards into the dirt, creating a new tunnel that went up into the side of the wall. Behind the drill the four arms with who and what they had taken a hold off where being tossed all over. The mine cart hit against the walls of the new tunnel a few times before finally smashing and falling behind them. As the arm retracted back into the machine the one with the savage started to swing too close to Arnold for his liking. ''Take that!'' He yelled as he tried to kick out at the slave, his arms trapped by the position the arm had him in. ''Head up Kokyrie!'' He called over the the arm with the slave started to swing by her too. After a short while the drill finally burst from the new tunnel, the sound of blood and armor filled the air as the machine landed upright. As the drill came to a stop the arms retracted and released their targets. Arnold was high up at the time and came crashing down yet landed on something that broke his fall. ''Not you guys again!'' He said as he looked up to see that they where back in the main section of the mine along with the savage Valuan guards. (In my next post the boss will show it's weak point and we can then attack!) |

Kokyrie stepped a little too close to one of the cannibalistic slaves and he took a swipe at her. "Blind say no move!" He yelled at her. The huntress stepped out of his reach and smiled over at Arnold. "It's pack mentality and that Valuan is the alpha male!" She explained to him. "They've got us both cornered right now but they won't touch us because their leader wants the make the kill himself!" And then the drill rushed past them again, narrowly missing the two pirates as it rushed across the room. As with before Blind halted the machine to locate them before bringing it around for another pass. It was a predictable attack pattern but Kokyrie knew that they couldn't keep dodging it forever. Suddenly an altercation broke out between Arnold and some of the slaves. At least that's what Kokyrie thought at first. But then she saw what the Valuan was up to. This time when the drill tore through it struck the slaves instead. "He's using them like chum." Kokyrie realized, impressed with Arnold's tactic. Even she could smell the thick, coppery scent of blood in the air. With his keen senses Blind would surely pick up on it too. Whether he was fooled into thinking he'd hit them instead of the slaves had yet to be seen though. Just then Arnold called out to her, saying he had a plan. "Glad to hear it." Kokyrie whispered as they made their way over to one of the mine carts that littered the floor of the chamber. Sure enough when Blind came to a stop on the other side of the chamber he seemed confused as to their location. The slaves had also caught the scent of fresh blood and lost control of themselves. "And now a feeding frenzy. They're like a pack of starving ferliths." Kokyrie gasped, watching with morbid fascination as the slaves gathered around their fallen brethren and began to feed. She couldn't help but note how much like animals humans became when they were stripped of their modern comforts. She was snapped out of her reverie by the sound of Arnold striking the mine cart with the side of a shovel. Kokyrie could see Blind's head snapping around in their direction just before he dropped back into the drill's cabin. "Are you mad? He's found us again!" She hissed up at the Valuan. The slaves waiting in the tunnels had also heard the noise. That and the scent of blood drew them from the shadows and back out into the chamber. ''This time we dodge and then run with the machine's direction!'' Arnold said to her. ''There is far too much noise now and that smell is really starting to bother even me!' Kokyrie nodded her understanding and slung her crossbow across her shoulder. She watched carefully as the drill lined itself up and began moving again. By now she'd gotten used to its movement and dodged its charge easily. The moment it was past them both Kokyrie dashed after it, following in its wake. ''The moment it stops we get inside, kick out the Valuan then ride that thing out of here!'' Arnold explained his plan. "I sure hope you know how to operate it." Kokyrie quirked an eyebrow at him. "But if a blind man can figure it out how hard can it be?" But this time the drill didn't stop. Even when it crashed into the wall Blind never let up on the throttle. "Whoa, is he disoriented or something?" Kokyrie wondered aloud at his odd behavior. The two of them cautiously approached the rear of the machine. ''What's his game?'' Arnold asked. ''He can't of known we were here, there is too much noise!'' Kokyrie could only shrug in response. Her eyes were fixed on the mechanical tentacles that she had seen earlier. And yet, even though she was wary of them she was still taken by surprise by their sheer speed when they began flailing about. "Look out!" Arnold cried, shoving her out of their grasping claws. But his brave act only delayed the inevitable. Before she could even regain her feet the two of them, along with one of the slaves who had wandered too close, were in their clutches. "Out of the frying pan." Kokyrie gasped, her gaze wandering to the slaves who were milling about just beneath her dangling feet. "And into the fire." She finished her thought while trying to pry open the metallic claw that was holding her about the waist. But it was to no avail. The mechanism that controlled its movements was too strong for her to budge even an inch. And then the drill began to chew its way through the wall, digging out a new tunnel and taking them all with it in the process. Kokyrie screwed her mouth and eyes shut as dirt rained down on her head from above. A moment later and they were inside of the freshly dug tunnel. From her position Kokyrie could see that they were moving upward at an angle now. She wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing though. Up was the way they wanted to go but up was also where the blind soldiers were. While she was hanging there with nothing better to do with her time Kokyrie took stock of her situation. Her arms were still free, unlike Arnold's, whose were pinned at his sides. She wasn't sure how the knowledge would be useful though. She also realized, much to her relief, that her crossbow was still hanging from her shoulder and hadn't been crushed by the claw. She was still in business. And business was about to pick up. "Heads up Kokyrie!" Arnold called out a warning. The tentacle that was holding the slave was moving in her direction. Even in this predicament the blind savage was still sniffing the air in search of food. With a grimace Kokyrie tried to draw her crossbow but found that the lower half of its shoulder strap had gotten caught in the claw and she couldn't free it. "Ew, stay away from me!" Kokyrie gasped as the slave drifted closer. She swatted at his head, careful to keep her hand away from his mouth, but he didn't seem to feel it. Thankfully the tentacles continued to sway, moving her away from the blind savage. After what seemed like an eternity of being waved around by the tentacle that was gripping her so tightly that her legs were going numb Kokyrie was released. It happened so fast that she hadn't even realized the machine had broken through into the upper chamber. All she knew was that she was dangling in the air one moment and then met the ground in a jarring thud in the next. Arnold had been dropped as well and so had the blind savage. But Kokyrie received the worst of it. She was neither armored nor numb to pain. And to top it off her legs had indeed fallen asleep. In sheer instinct Kokyrie slithered snakelike across the floor and into the shadows of the newly dug tunnel. There she watched with growing horror as they were surrounded once again by the blind soldiers from earlier. "Food." One of them hissed, his mouth yawning open and a string of drool sliding from his lip. "Enemy." Another rasped, snarling at the blind slave through his broken, yellow teeth. Kokyrie pounded on her legs with the edge of her hand in an effort to restore the flow of blood to them. "Wow, I'd sure hate to be that guy about now." Kokyrie muttered, glancing at the blind slave. "But I doubt either of us are much better off." She admitted, turning her gaze upon Arnold. Finally feeling a tingling sensation in her extremities Kokyrie braced herself against the tunnel's wall and pushed herself shakily to her feet. She hobbled forward to its entrance and readied her crossbow but wasn't sure who should be her first target. Smart money was on one of the blind cannibals and yet her gut told her to focus on the drill. Never one to ignore her intuition Kokyrie held her fire and waited to see what Blind would do next. "If these guys are anything like animals then taking the top guy out might make me the new head honcho of this pit." She reckoned. It sounded pretty far-fetched to her but it was worth a shot. Fixing her sights on the drill's hatch she made ready to put an arrow through Blind's skull the minute he poked his head out of it. |

Arnold pulled himself to his feet the moment he realized they where back in the first section of the mine, the Valuan guards moving in on him. They Moved in with their arms out stretched towards Arnold who looked around to try and locate where Kokyrie had fallen. He spotted her within the entrance of the tunnel that blind had dug with the machine. She was also just getting to her feet as it seemed she had been hurt or something from the fall. However the fact she could get up was all Arnold need know know and so turned his attention back to the approaching Valuans and single slave. Taking out his sword he was ready for them but it came to no surprise to him as the guards turned on the slave, taking him by the arms and tearing them from their sockets. Arnold had to look away just for a moment as he used his free hand to take out a small pink cloth to cover his mouth with. Knowing it was un wise to look away for too long he turned back to face them, a few now approaching his direction. He took a few steps backwards towards the tunnel where Kokyrie was. "If these guys are anything like animals then taking the top guy out might make me the new head honcho of this pit." Arnold could hear Kokyrie's voice. ''Worth a shot.'' He muttered not knowing if she was talking to him or not. A savage guard broke from the pack and rushed at Arnold who took advantage of his un protected head and stabbed him in his open mouth. The blade was stuck for a moment but another shove and it broke out of the back of his neck. Arnold's leg came up as he booted the guard backwards into the group, knocking a few of them over o buy him a little more time to think up a plan. ''He sure did act like the boss down there didn't he.'' Arnold looked over at the machine which had not moved or started up since it broke out from the ground. In fact there had been no movement what so ever, not a single sound from the drill. ''I think I know why now, I know why he was down there!'' Arnold turned to see if Kokyrie was ready to fight before turning to the group of on coming Valuan savages. ''Your time is up my friends!'' Arnold held his sword upwards to the sky. ''Now is the final curtain!'' He swung his sword down at the tip started to glow bright red. ''Pyri!'' A burst of flames shot from the ground, catching one of the guards and setting him alight. The guard took a moment to fall but in doing so blocked the others from advancing on Kokyrie, giving her time to ready herself for battle. Arnold faced the machine and started running towards it, bending down as he ran in order to pick up a bone from the many that littered the ground. With a flick of his wrist he tossed the bone away from his direction and as it clashed against one of the lower metal bridges gained the attention of the savages. While free from their focus Arnold climbed up the side of the drill, expecting Blind to jump out at any moment. He waited but nothing happened, he wondered why the sudden change in tactics. Arnold got up on top of the hatch and with his armored gloves started to hit away at the hatch, Yet there was no reaction. ''Right, If your not coming out then I'm going in!'' Arnold said as he took a moment to look over at Kokyrie to see if she was doing ok by herself. Arnold took out his sword, the tip still hot from his last attack he shoved it into the hatch where it connected with the machine. Moving it around the edge of the hatch it started to come lose and with a final pull it came right open. There inside was the Valuan savage, sitting there as if he had no idea Arnold was above him. Arnold took a moment to remember how these savages noticed things and realized that there was alot of noise going on around them. The armor of the guards, the fire burning away and even a few guards even now where walking into the side of the drill as if it was blocking a normal path they had become used too. Just then Blind's nose twitched and his head spun around to face Arnold. Lance reacted and this time was not going to let Blind have his own way. He took a hold of him by his neck with both hands and pulled him out from the machine. ''Not so tough without your drill are you!'' Arnold said as he held Blind out in front of himself. Just then Blind lashed out, the bone attached to his arm hit against Arnold and knocked him off balance. Arnold lost his grip of Blind and rolled down the side of the drill, landing at the feet of a small group of savage guards. As Arnold tried to get to his feet not only did he see the gauds coming for him but Blind was standing perfectly still on top of the drill as if he himself did not want to attract the attention of the guards. Lance delivered a kick to the face of the first Valuan to bend down and take a bite at him, sending him over backwards. ''I'll take you all on!'' Arnold said as he got up and took out his blade, ready for battle. Yet the guards did not all rush at him, they stood there for a moment as they started to sniff the air. ''food?'' On said as he raised his nose higher as he sniffed. ''No....'' Another said as more and more of the guards started to stop what they where doing and move towards the drill. Arnold used this moment to move away from the group and re join Kokyrie. ''Any idea what's going on?'' He asked as he backed up to her. The savages had now all gathered around the drill, sniffing the air as if there was a smell that they all knew too well. Just then one of the guards let out a loud deep scream as he placed his hands on his head. ''Taker of light!'' He screamed as the others followed. ''Taker of light!'' More started to shout out as they now started to claw at the drill. ''Kill traitor!'' A few others screamed as they started to climb up on the backs of each other in a frenzy to get to Blind. ''I don't think these guys are very fond of our new friend.'' Arnold joked as he looked over at Blind. Yet Blind was 'looking' right back at the two of them and as the guards got closer to him he let out his high pitched scream like before. ''That's not good.'' Arnold said as he turned around to face the new tunnel. Right away he knew the call was the same from before when Blind called for the slaves to help him out and now as Arnold looked at the tunnel he noticed it was not a steep as the others that Blind had made before. Suddenly the sound of many hands clawing at dirt could be heard coming from the tunnel. ''Run.'' Arnold casually said before looking at Kokyrie. ''Run!'' He realized the situation they where now in as they where right in the way of the tunnel. Arnold ran, taking advantage of the fact the Valuan savages where more interested in getting Blind than anything else. While running Arnold took a look back at Blind, seeing that he was now walking back towards the hatch. ''No you don't!'' Arnold yelled as he turned while running, causing himself to be flung backwards in the air. In a split second of thought he tossed his sword at Blind, just missing him and hitting against the hatch causing it to slam shut. The heat from opening it before had misshape the hatch and the weight caused it to stick shut. Arnold only had a second to pick himself up before realizing he now had no weapon and would need to get his sword back. Blind on the other hand could hear the hatch shut and was not pleased by this. He let out a well timed scream as the Ixa'taka slaves burst from the tunnel like wild animals, jumping at the Valuan guards. In the chaos Arnold could see that Blind's focus was on their direction as he jumped down from the drill and rushed into a pack of slaves and guards, knocking them out of his way to get to Kokyrie and Arnold. (You may now attack blind.) |

It didn't take long before the two of them found themselves being stalked by a hungry mob of blind savages once again. Thankfully Arnold arrived to keep them at bay, leaving Kokyrie to focus on taking out the leader. "Oh, right." Kokyrie muttered to herself, taken by a sudden flash of inspiration. Laying her crossbow down beside her Kokyrie reached into her quiver and withdrew the small vial of poison she kept there. Removing its cork she dipped one of her arrows into it and then sealed it again. She slid the venomous shaft through her belt so it would be within easy reach whenever Blind made an appearance. "At close range I can punch far enough through his plate armor to get the poison into his system." Kokyrie reckoned to herself. "Might not hurt him much at first but it'll start to tell on him eventually." But for the time being there were plenty of other targets for her to pick off. "Time to take the high ground." She decided. Arnold was already clambering up the side of the drill to pry Blind out of it. Kokyrie followed him up, standing atop its rear section where the tentacles were housed. From that vantage point she had a clear shot at any of the savages in the room. Kokyrie started with the soldiers who were closing in on her. She fired once, piercing the forehead of one of them. Then, in a grotesque show of cannibalism, a few of his compatriots knelt down and began tearing away at their fallen brother's armor. "No waste. Eat you now." One of them groaned. "Ugh, that's disgusting." Kokyrie gagged. "I'm not getting any sleep tonight after all of this." Then another idea struck her. Kokyrie reloaded her crossbow and brought down another of the savages. As with before some of the soldiers fell upon his corpse and started to feed. She fired a third time to the same effect and smiled. By shooting soldiers at different positions within their mob she had created a narrow path through their ranks. Even now the savages were clearing the way to join in the macabre feasts she'd just served up to them. Kokyrie leapt down from the drill and wove her way through the crowd. She tried to spot Arnold in the chaotic mess. With all the ruckus he was raising he wasn't hard to spot. And then she saw him trotting around from behind the drill. He also spotted her and came over to join her. A second later and she could also see Blind standing atop the drill. In a rush of motion Kokyrie snatched the poisoned arrow from her belt and loaded it. But she held her fire for the moment. ''Any idea what's going on?'' Arnold asked her quietly. Kokyrie smirked as understanding dawned on her. "Yeah. Territorial dispute. Our buddy there just walked into rival turf and the locals are about to drive him out." Sure enough the blind soldiers turned their attention towards Blind, ignoring the two pirates for the moment. They shouted insults and threats at him as they surrounded the base of the machine. "Let's cut our losses and get out of here before they remember we're still here." Kokyrie suggested. But before they could go anywhere Blind let out a loud scream. It wasn't one born of fear or frustration though. Kokyrie remembered hearing it before and what had happened afterwards. "Uh oh. He's calling for reinforcements!" "Run. Run!" Arnold yelled. But Kokyrie was already making tracks towards the other side of the room. She looked back in time to see the Valuan pirate fall to the ground and slid to a halt. She paused for a moment, unsure of whether to go back and help him or just keep running. In the end she did neither. Arnold was back on his feet and Blind was tearing through the mob of warring cannibals to get at them both. "You mess with the snake..." Kokyrie breathed as she calmly raised her crossbow, took careful aim at the armored Valuan and loosed the poisoned arrow straight at his chest. "...you get the fang." ~ Kokyrie didn't wait around long enough to see if her arrow had struck home or even if Arnold was still alive. She knew that they'd both be dead unless they could put some distance between themselves and the battle that had broken out on the main floor. Fetching about Kokyrie spotted a narrow metal ladder that led up the wall to one of the catwalks above. She made a mad dash for it but found her path blocked by a trio of savages. Two of them were soldiers but the third was one of the slaves from the lower floor and a female from the look of her emaciated frame. "Guess I can't let something like this happen on my watch." Kokyrie sighed as she loosed an arrow into the throat of one of the soldiers. He toppled over, dead before he struck the ground. Kokyrie rushed in to bash the other soldier's head in with the butt of her crossbow. He reeled drunkenly to one side and then collapsed atop his deceased comrade. Now faced with the monster that the Ixa'takan woman had come Kokyrie calmly reloaded her weapon. "It's your call." She breathed as she leveled the crossbow at her and awaited her response. "Food...." The blind woman groaned. Kokyrie's finger tightened on the trigger. But instead of coming towards her the woman fell to her knees and started tearing into the unconscious soldier instead. "Hmm, good call." Kokyrie sighed in relief as she resumed her trek towards the ladder. She took a backwards glance over her shoulder at the woman and felt a wave of pity wash over her. "Or was it?" She sighed. ~ Finally reaching the ladder Kokyrie climbed up to the catwalk above the main floor. Most of the soldiers were down there so her new perch was deserted for the time being. "Now then, where'd those troublesome menfolk get off to?" She wondered aloud as she surveyed the carnage below in search of Arnold and Blind. |
