This Boss Battle takes place in a small long forgotton mine in Ixa'taka. The head Valuan in charge was found out to of been keeping over %50 of the Moon Stones found for himself and so the Armada caused a cave in as punishment. ~ A flag with a skull and rose blew in the wind as the black ship circled around the old mountain mines that where once occupied by Valua. The mines where vast and had many routes as the pirate ship started to descend on the mountain. ''Sir..'' One of the pirates called out as he watched over the side of the ship, the mines getting closer. At first sight one would not of known he was a simple pirate from the cloths he wore. Black silk, some of the finest in the lands. ''Is it worth it? I mean there just Moon Stones.'' The pirate turned to look at his captain. The man he was addressing turned sharply to face him on deck. His blond hair seemed to move on it's own against the wind as his teeth caught the light as he smiled. His sliver armor also caught the day's early light as he came to a stop. ''Moon Stones?'' He chuckled. ''Were not doing this for Moon Stones.'' The pirate who had asked the question along with a few of his comrades looked at each other, confused at their captain's response. ''Were doing this for a Ship load of Moon Stones!'' The captain gave a twirl of his hand as he flicked his hair to one side. The crew all cheered as the man waved his hand to his right, catching the attention of two more of his crew. Heavy foot steps could be heard as the two crew men came closer. They where his most trusted members and so he had allowed them use of his own custom made steam powered suits. Not completely his own design but as a Black Pirate it was all take take take from now on for him. ''Now then, are you sure this is the place?'' The captain asked as the two men came to a stop. Between them both in their grasp was a woman who did not fit in with his crew one bit. She was clearly from a village somewhere in Ixa'taka. ''Why should I tell you!?'' The woman snapped at the man as she kicked around trying to free herself from the two armored men. ''My dear, I'm Arnold Lance/'' Arnold closed his eyes and place his hand against his head. ''If you assist me I'll make your death a wonderful thing of beauty.'' Hie eyes shot open and with in a moment his sword was drawn and pointed at her neck. ''Make me angry and your whole village pays the price.'' He smiled at her as he offered his free hand for her to take. Scared for her village the woman took Arnold's hand as the two armored pirates let go of her. He put his sword away and placed his other arm around her back. ''Now then, is this the place I have been told about or not?'' He asked as he started to twirl her around into a slow dance on his deck. Several of his crew positioned there selves at the end of the deck and took out not their weapons but musical instruments as they started to play a slow song for their captain. The woman was confused, she had never been forced to dance in such a polite was while being a captive. ''Yes, people from our village used to work as slaves there for a greedy man.'' ''Oh how interesting, do go on.'' Arnold started to speed up the dance as the woman spoke. ''That's the entrance there, just behind that group of trees.'' Arnold released one of her hands so that she could point out the direction while the then spun her around. ''But you wont get far, the leader was found to be taking Moon Stones for himself and so the Armada caused a cave in on him as punishment..... along with my people.'' The woman could only think of all the lives that where lost after the cave in of that mine. Just then the woman looked up, the music had stopped. ''What...'' She was about to talk when she realized that she had come to a stop on a long blank of wood over the side of the ship. ''You dance divinely my dear.'' Arnold was at the other end with his sword drawn once more and pointing at her. ''Now for your final act.'' He jabbed his sword forwards at her, causing the Ixa'taka woman to fall over backwards of the plank and fall into the skies. ''Shame, she was a good dance partner.'' Arnold put his sword away before pointing over at the small group of tress. ''Fire! Let the heaves hear our call!'' As he spoke the ship's main cannons fired at the trees, burning them to ash as they revealed a small cave like entrance. ''Take us down, I'll be checking this out for myself.'' Arnold started to gather his items and ready himself for the mission. ''Sir, what if the valuans down there are still alive?'' One of the steam armored men asked. ''After two years trapped? I would be surprised.'' Arnold chucked to himself. ''However if they are then they will be over joyed that I, Arnold Lance have come to take their Moon Stones.'' He grinned as he flicked his hair and looked up at the Green Moon. ~ ''Keep out of sight, I don't want them savages attacking my ship while I'm not there to defend it!'' Arnold shouted up at his crew as his ship ascended into the skies. The Black Pirate from Valua turned his attention back to the entrance his ship had made. ''Let's hope that the information was true, and that I, Arnold Lance will soon be rich in Moon Stones!'' He raised his hands up slightly as if he was talking to an audience. Lance looked around and remembered he was now alone, ''Oh that's right.'' He looked at the few remaining trees that did not get hit by his cannons. ''Eww, too much green.'' He turned his nose up at the outside world of Ixa'taka as he made his way into the mines. ~ Boss Battle is a go!! Time limit for each post is seven days after the last post is made. "This is not one of your better ideas Kyrie." Hannah muttered as she peered down the length of the shaft. She lost her sight in its murky depths and was unable to see the bottom. "I know. But no pain, no gain right?" Kokyrie returned coolly. She touched a lit match the the wick inside of her lantern and held it above a length of stone tubing that rose from the ground next to her. The flickering light dispelled some of the gloom but not enough for her to gauge how far it down she'd have to climb to reach the bottom. "I don't know about any gain." Nixie chimed in. "But if you ask me you're in for plenty of the first." "Thanks for your vote of confidence." Kokyrie groused as she tied a length of rope to the lantern's handle and began to lower it down into the shaft. She let the rope play out until a gentle clink of metal against stone signaled the lantern had reached the bottom. The shaft, obviously a vent that allowed fresh air from outside to enter the dimly lit mines below, was about thirty feet deep and just wide enough for a single person to squeeze down its length. "If what the King's people told us is accurate we could be sitting on top of a fortune in Moon Stones." Kokyrie assured her shipmates that their presence here was worthwhile. Nixie raised an eyebrow at her. "Yeah and they also told us that those Moon Stones were the property of the King too. We're the ones doing the work here so I think we should be able to keep them all." "Yeah, making us do his dirty work and then giving us only a cut of the profit isn't a very good deal Kyrie." Hannah agreed. "I think we should just take everything that's not nailed down and make a run for it. We're Black Pirates aren't we?" Kokyrie reeled her lantern back in and began to check over the supplies she'd be carrying down into the mine with her. "By 'take everything' you mean you want to spend the next....I dunno....5 years hauling out all of the Moon Stones by hand and stacking them in the Viper's hold?" Hannah and Nixie exchanged a glance. "Well..." Nixie sighed. "...no. I guess not." Hannah finished their mutual thought. Kokyrie smirked at the two of them. "Remember, we're just here to scout out the tunnel system and locate the cache of Moon Stones. The King's peons will be the ones removing them once we map out the best way to reach them." "How did we get roped into this fiasco anyway?" Hannah snorted, rapidly changing the subject. Kokyrie merely shrugged. "I volunteered for the assignment." "Why?" Nixie asked in confusion. "Because I'm a Black Pirate." Kokyrie smiled back at her. "If some of those Moon Stones wind up stacked in the Viper's hold before I report back to the King, who will be the wiser?" Hannah and Nixie exchanged another look and smiled. "That's..." Hannah laughed. "...our captain." Nixie finished her thought. ~ Kokyrie gave her equipment one final inspection. Her crossbow was strapped across her back and she had a full quiver of arrows belted around her waist. A vial of poison was nestled amongst them, allowing her to add a venomous sting to her attacks. She also had a lantern and the rope she would be descending with. Giving the Green Moon Stone around her neck a squeeze for luck Kokyrie hoisted herself into a sitting position atop the stone shaft. "Wish me luck." Kokyrie took a deep breath as she swung her feet into the opening. Hannah and Nixie took ahold of the rope and braced themselves. "Good luck Kyrie." Hannah nodded to her. "You're going to need it." Nixie added pessimistically. Giving her crew a salute Kokyrie kicked off from the wall and swung down into the opening. With the lantern dangling below her and her crew holding the rope above she began her descent down into the mine. |

In another sector of the jungle entirely, a Valuan man had gotten lost after pissing off yet another ship captain and being thrown overboard. It was something he'd gotten used to by now, if he had to be honest with himself which he hardly ever was; honesty got you killed in his world, after all. Well, his old world at least. "Damn peasants anyway," he muttered irritably, hacking away at the brush with a battered machete. He wore a tattered and well-worn set of jungle khakis, of which the boots were in the best shape, and his lank blond hair fell about his face and shoulders in an untidy fall; mad and slightly drunk blue eyes glared at everything, and he cursed to make a sailor blush as he slashed away. As if in contrast to his bedraggled looks, the sword and pistol at his side were expensive and well maintained things, the product of a wealthier age of Valuan might and expansion as was the silver Medallion on his chest that signified his rank in the Armada. Not that this meant much outside the Yellow Continent, of course, but it was his only token of a good name and a history that could be interpreted as honorable if one were generous. In truth the Medallion and weapons got him into as much trouble as they rescued him from, but he'd not trade such fine things for anything, not all the liquor and loqua left in the world. He would die before surrendering them, or so he told himself constantly. In time he came to a particularly dense patch of brambles, and he paused for a few sips; one from a hip flask of finest brandy, another from a canteen of water, still cold thanks to a mild Purple effect on the container. "Can't let 'em down," he muttered sourly, taking machete in hand and renewing his assault. The sword might have been a better tool, being both heavier and sharper, but even at his lowest he'd never sully the unmatched blade with such activity. An hour later and he was making measurable progress, and abruptly the ground gave way beneath him! "AUGH!" he yelled as he fell into some darkness, landing in a rough heap ten feet below. For a minute or so he lay senseless, his mind and vision fogged by the abruptness of his fall, then with a moan he shook dirt and bugs from his hair and came shakily to his feet. "What've you got yourself into now, Jareth Montoya," he grumbled, peering futilely into the dark. This wouldn't do, he needed more light than the hole in the ground provided. Cautiously he took a few steps away, then reached into a pocket and withdrew a Red Moonstone; holding it aloft he squinted at the pile of debris from his fall, muttered "Pyri!" and launched a small wave of fire outward from his hand. The debris caught easily, and he carefully pulled a branch from the conflagration; makeshift torch in hand he peered about himself once more. "This is no cave," he muttered as he realized where he stood. "These are... tunnels." The walls were too smooth to be natural, and there were metal plates here and there as the Valuans liked to install. Looking up once more he realized he had fallen through a grate, one of several which were required to allow fresh air into the underground facilities. It had rusted through the years, and when he had trod upon it it had broken and collapsed beneath his weight. He was lucky, he realized further, to have stepped in the direction of the deeper mines; if he had gone the other way, the fires of his spell would have blocked him in and he may very well have perished. Sighing he had another couple sips from his flash and canteen, and with torch in one hand and machete in the other he turned and started marching deeper into the mines; he had nothing better to do, after all. |

Lance placed one hand in front of the other as he navigated his way down the long tunnel. ''Honestly they should of has some lights in here.'' He said out loud, trying to make up for his mistake of not bringing one along with him. He was so used to having people do things for him but he was determined to prove to all the other pirates out there that he too could do things on his own when he had to. The tunnel went on for what seemed forever to the Valuan pirate, ''Must of been the main entrance...'' He told himself as his eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness. He could make out the size of the tunnel and it was clear that large machinery could of passed though this way back when the mine was working. After almost falling over his own feet in the dark Lance spotted a dim glow in the distance. As he approached the end of the tunnel he could make out taht the glow was coming from old valuan equipment. That equipment happened to be a valuan Destroyer, standing in the center of a large room. Even though it looked to be immobile after all the years down there the lights in it's 'head' where still glowing bright. ''Valuan machinery, at it's best.'' Arnold flicked his hair with his finger as he grinned. Taking a moment he looked around the large room. It was filled with old equipment for mining, large metal creates stat against one wall while a row of Diggers stood by the other. Lance walked towards the center and placed his hand against the Destroyer, checking that it was indeed immobile. Feeling safe that the thing was long past working order he took a look side to side, spotting a smaller tunnel to his right and a another to his left. Folding his arms and placing a finger against his chin he thought for a while of which way to go. ''Left or right, left or right...'' He muttered. Lance rested against the Destroyer while thinking which way to go, leaning his head backwards. Right away he spotted a shaft above him, ''Not that way.'' He shook his head, he was not looking for a way out but a way in. Just then he noticed that the light in the large room was slowly fading. ''What's going on here?'' He asked as he moved from resting against the destroyer, turning to see why the lights where going out. It appeared that by resting against the old machine he had knocked it ever so slightly, causing it to slowly turn off it's lights as if it did not know it had them on all these years. ''Don't you dear turn off!'' Arnold shouted, ''I am Arnold Lance and you will work for me!!'' With that Lance gave the Destroyer a sturdy kick to it's side. He 'head' stood up right in a flash as all the lights shone brighter than ever as if it was a new model. As the new bright light lit the room up Arnold's eyes widened at what he saw. Right in front of him was the top of a large metal door frame covered in rocks and debri. All around the bottom half where empty boxes of explosives. ''I'm a genius!'' Arnold declared as he punched the air. ''Is there nothing I can't do!'' Arnold's victory was short lived when he suddenly realized that the boxes where empty and that he had nothing to reopen the entrance to the mine with. ''Son of a!!'' Arnold turned around to take his anger out on the closest thing to him, which happened to be the Destroyer. With another swift kick he booted the machine, ''No worries.'' He clamed himself down, ''I'll just have to go back to my ship and get some explosives.'' Arnold was too busy explaining his own plan to himself he did not notice that his kick to the destroyer had done a little more this time than the last. ''Who's there?'' He asked as a noise that sounded like tracks across the ground came from behind him. ''Oh...Bugger.'' Lance looked up as the destroyer approached him, stopping only a few feet away from him. ''Let's talk this over shall we?'' He asked as the 'head' of the machine extended. ''Just my luck..'' The Destroyer let out it's distress call as the light's flashed around it's 'head'. Another noise started to appear in the air and right away Arnold knew where it was coming from. Taking a few steps away from the Destroyer he looked to the wall lined with Diggers. Each one of them springing to life as their light's came on, the drills slowly starting to turn. Lance took out his rose blade and prepared for the attack. ''Oh my, Valuan machinery...at it's best?'' Arnold's stance became more relaxed as one of the Diggers exploded on the spot while another two turned to face one another, their drills clashing against each other. One managed to locate the Black Pirate and slowly started to approach him, only getting half way across the room before it's drill fell off and hit the ground. With a quick and effortless slash of his blade the Digger was on it's side. ''Well this would be embarrassing if I had any care for the people of Valua.'' Arnold said as he turned his attention back to the Destroyer. With a thrust of his blade he smashed the control section of the machine, leaving only it's lights working to light up the room. ''Now then, this door, or lack of one.'' Arnold turned his attention back to the entrance to the mine while the Diggers attacked one another and fell apart behind him. |

With a swift kick Kokyrie knocked the vent's grating loose. It swung downward, releasing a squeal of rusted metal that sounded far too loud in the silence of the mines. A moment later and her lantern was lowered through the opening, followed a few seconds later by Kokyrie herself. One moment she was hemmed in on all sides by the walls of the narrow shaft and in the next she passed through the vent and found herself surrounded by the darkness that had retreated from her lantern's feeble circle of light. And yet it waited just beyond, ready to pounce upon her and engulf her the moment the flickering flame faltered in the least. Despite the lack of sight Kokyrie could feel that she was descending into a relatively small area. Touching down on the floor she drew her crossbow and crouched defensively for a moment. When she was satisfied that nothing was going to jump out of the shadows to attack her she lowered her weapon and untied the lantern from the end of the rope. Kokyrie then gave the rope three quick tugs, signaling her crew above that she had landed safely. There was a quiet whipping sound as the other end of the rope was released and tossed down the shaft. Kokyrie quickly spooled the rope into a coil and placed it in her pouch. Then, hefting the lantern, she began her exploration of the room she'd descended into. The wavering light of the lantern splashed across a stack of boxes placed against one wall. Kokyrie was curious as to what was inside of them but a closer inspection revealed that they were nailed tightly shut. With a snort of disgust she gave up on them. Further examination of the room's contents revealed that Kokyrie had entered a small supply room. In addition to the boxes there were tools arranged neatly on racks and several work uniforms hanging in rank on a clothes line. Stepping over to the racks Kokyrie lifted one of the tools and inspected it. It was a miner's pick axe crafted from common yet durable wood and iron. Both components showed signs of neglect; the wooden handle was dry and cracked while the iron head was rusting in a few spots. Kokyrie was about to replace the pick axe but then thought better of it. "Might come in handy." She decided and shouldered the tool. Casting about she located the door leading out of the room. Kokyrie pulled it open with the one hand and shone the lantern's light outside with the other. Beyond was a much larger room that her light scarcely illuminated. A rustle of movement from nearby caused Kokyrie to freeze. She drew the pick axe and listened carefully. The sound came again but even with her keen ears Kokyrie couldn't locate its source. In the underground chamber the noise seemed to echo off of the walls, seemingly coming from every direction at once. Kokyrie raised the lantern and shown it around the area where she was standing before moving further into the room. Its light fell upon something that immediately grabbed her interest. Mounted on the wall next to the storage room's door was a lever marked with yellow & black paint. Stepping up to it Kokyrie grasped the lever and pulled it downward. In response two things happened simultaneously. Firstly, the room was flooded with light from several banks of electrical lighting tubes mounted on the walls around the circumference of the room. She only had a moment to take in her new surroundings. She was no in a larger, circular chamber filled with stacked crates and piles of debris. The second effect drew her eyes upward as the roof seemed to stir to life. There, a multitude of creatures who had been hanging from the heights were startled into sudden, frantic flight. As one they fell away from the roof and began wafting about the chamber in a mindless, chaotic fashion. "Bloody hell, Tsoroks!" Kokyrie cried as the bat-like creatures began swooping about the room, screeching in protest at having been disturbed. She was in the process of drawing her crossbow and firing at them but quickly abandoned the idea. While it would be nearly impossible to fire a shot that didn't hit something in the mob of creatures Kokyrie knew that she would have to loose all of her arrows just to make a dent in their numbers. Suddenly one of the Tsoroks broke away from the flock and took a dive at her. It generated a burst of lightning in her direction, its flash competing with the wall-mounted lights in a brief contest of brightness. Kokyrie stumbled away from the smoldering hole it gouged in the floor only inches away from where she'd been standing only a second earlier. Kokyrie cast about in search of an escape route. A patch of darkness in the far wall indicated an exit from the room and she made for it with all haste. Dashing forward in a crouch Kokyrie swept the pick axe back and forth to ward off the erratic movements of the Tsoroks. Behind her the sudden clap and flash of lightning indicated that another of the creatures had taken an unhealthy interest in her presence. With hastened steps Kokyrie dashed through the exit and left the Tsoroks behind. She was pleased to see that the lighting she'd activated extended down the length of the tunnel she now found herself wandering down. "Better save this then." She muttered, raising the cover on her lantern and blowing out its flame. Taking a moment to stow it in her pouch Kokyrie continued to follow the tunnel. |

"Fee fi fo fun," Jareth muttered absently as he trekked down deeper into the mine. "I smell the blood of a Nasrean. Be he live or be he dead, I'll- uh, how's it go..." He paused to think of the rhyme, staring blankly at his makeshift torch. "Flay him raw and eat his- no, that's gross..." Unbeknownst to the Valuan, his painful wordsmithing was disturbing those best left undisturbed, as the roof over his head silently came to life. "Tear off his skin and make his- ah, that doesn't even make sense!" He glanced around, scowling at the darkness. "You're no help at all, are you." A faint gurgle was his answer; taking it for some distant sliding of debris he shrugged and kept walking, eyes on the floor as he puzzled over the song. "Blood of a Nasrean..." he declared with a scoff. "Who would ever eat one of those excitable types anyway? Maybe a hungry Slothstra..." In his wake, the ceiling fell to the floor in large drops, plopping into place and resolving into a pack of Luchich monsters, their mindless yellow bodies focusing on Jareth's heat and swarming after him. Oblivious as always the semi-retired Captain continued ambling along, beginning to grow annoyed with himself for being unable to resolve that damned nursery rhyme. Until he did. "I've got it!" he yelled victoriously, stopping in his tracks. "'I'll grind his bones to make my-' AAH!" and he was knocked forward, interrupted by one of the monsters lunging for his back. Caught off guard he fumbled, turned and waved his torch, only now realizing his errors. "Dralnog," he cursed, mistaking the monsters for their weaker cousins often found beneath Valua City. Another one lunged for him, and he slashed at it with his machete; it fell back with a gurgle, seeming to dissolve but pulling itself back together while two more made their moves. He managed to beat one of them back, but the other got inside his guard and bashed against his chest, knocking him backward another step. This wouldn't do; he'd get swarmed and killed if he stood his ground, and no one would ever notice his passing. He doubted these mines were even frequented anymore. Unwilling to die his stuck the machete back into his belt and fumbled for his Moonstones. "Electri!" he shouted, waving his Yellow Moonstone before him; a small arc of lightning surged ahead, frying three of the beasts at once, and the Valuan took to his heels, hoping he'd either outrun or lose them. Neither happened; all he did was lose himself, nearly smacking into a rough stone wall as he careened straight into a dead end. "Damnation!" he shouted, whirling back; to his dismay the swarm had gotten bigger! Abruptly he was seized by an angry determination, fueled by an intense desire to not die in this Moons-forsaken backwater. "Increm," he declared grimly, dropping both torch and machete as red light flooded the air and bolstered his might, and he drew forth the expensive saber he had hoped not to use. And with an incoherent shout he lunged ahead, slashing wildly, forgetting all his training in his desperation to survive. Minutes later the enchantment abated, and he paused to notice the swarm had been vanquished. "Oh," he muttered weakly, not daring to look down at himself. He didn't feel poisoned, and since he was no healer he contented himself with crushing a Sacri crystal and rubbing the dust over his chest to heal any wounds. Danger averted for the moment, he sheathed his blade and retrieved the torch and machete, finding the proper tunnel once more and continuing deeper into the mines, in the hope of finding a more obviously-marked Exit tunnel or even an elevator! ''Right then, what to do?'' Lance asked himself as the last of the activated Diggers fell over from it's own rust. He placed both hands against the rocks, giving them a push while already knowing that they where not going to move. ''This could be a problem.'' Arnold took a step back and placed his hand against his chin while he looked up and down at the huge blocked door. He knew it was the only way into the main section of the mine where the Moon Stones would of been kept, yet the caved in door was not going to be easy to open. The room went silent as Lance thought to himself, there was always the option of going back out to his ship and getting something to blow the mines wide open with. however in doing so it would in his eyes be classed as a fail as yet again he would have to rely on his crew and ship. Just then the silence was broken as one of the diggers fell on it's side. The sound of the metal hitting the ground caught Lance off guard which only annoyed him. ''Worthless junk!'' He yelled as she spun round to face the fallen machine. As he did so he drew his sword, the edge of the blade changed from pink to a bright red as it seemed to set on fire. Living or not no one interrupts me!'' Lance spun his sword around twice in his hand, stopping it as the tip of the blade faced the digger. ''Pyri!'' The blade shone as the flame disappeared. The floor around the digger flashed red just before a small explosion took out the digger, causing the machine to explode. Arnold quickly turned and covered his face as it started to rain bolts and scraps of metal. ''They may not work, but they are still Valuan Machines...'' A smug look crossed the Black Pirate's face as he turned to look as the other fallen diggers. ''I guess every now and then one must get his hands dirty.'' Arnold put his sword away as he approached the diggers. ~ ''That should about do it.'' Lance took a step back. It may of took him several minuets but he had managed to drag each and every last digger across the room and placed them at the foot of the caved in door. ''Now then, open for me! Arnold Lance!'' Lance took out his sword and pointed it at the pile of diggers. The blade once again changed from pink to red as the room started to heat up. This time he spun the sword twice in his hand followed by spinning his body around, tossing his sword high into the air as he stopped facing the door. Catching the sword in his other hand then flipping it across to his right. ''Pyres!'' He almost sung the word. A crack appeared at the foot of the door, spreading out in many directions both under the rocks and across them. As soon as the glowing red cracks hit the diggers Lance took cover from the oncoming explosion. The diggers became bright red as the magic took place and all at once they exploded sending drills, bolts and other metal parts all over the room. Arnold stood up from his hiding place, a pile of the metal boxes that he still had not bothered to check. Raising both arms into the air he looked at the large opened doorway. ''There is nothing I, Arnold Lance can not do!'' Pleased that he had archived something on his own he entered into what would be the main section of the mine. ~ ''Stupid crew, should of check I had a lamp or something on me.'' Arnold tried to blame his crew as he wondered down a huge passage. He could see nothing but darkness which ever way he looked and the tunnel was incredibly steep. ''Must watch my step..'' He muttered as he held against what felt like a rail on the side of the wall. Just then as he placed his foot on the ground he felt it slip underfoot, the ground there was extremely slippery and he lost his grip on the rail. ''Bugger!!!!'' He yelled as he fell over into a roll. Lance yelled out an endless line of curses as he rolled on every side down the dark tunnel, coming to a stop at the bottom after what felt to him like forever. He quickly stood up as if he was expecting people to of seen him. ''I meant to do that, just a quicker way down.'' He looked about but could only see darkness still. Arnold was getting annoyed of all the darkness, ''I thought people where trapped down here?'' he asked the darkness, wondering why it was there. Walking only a few steps forwards his head made contact with something metal. After a quick rub of his head he reached out and grabbed what ever it was. ''You dare attack Arnol....'' His sentence was cut short when he realized he was holding some kind of switch. With a raised eye brow he pulled the switch down. Lance quickly shielded his eyes as the room became flooded in light. After a second or two he moved his hand away and took a look at where he was. ''Not what I was expecting...'' He found himself saying as he looked up. The room was bigger then he thought it would of been, in fact much bigger. The shape was square and he figured it would take a good five minutes just to walk from one side to another. Looking up there where many metal bridges leading from doors in the walls. These bridges must of reached up several floors. ''Wouldn't want to fall from there.'' Lance said as he looked at the very top bridge. That was when he noticed something a little odd in the wall. He was never one to be seen in a mine, it was not his kind of work. Yet he knew how the system worked and the valuan's would build square shafts and reinforce them with metal pillars. Yet he looked on at the odd tunnel that was round and had no support at all. His eyes moved down as he spotted more and more of these holes. Each in a random place in the walls with no organized pattern, yet they had clearly been done with a machine. ''Just my luck.'' Arnold said to himself. Not only would he have to check every room on every floor for the Moon Stones but he would probably have to look into all these odd tunnels too. ''Well before I check I better make sure my exit is clear.'' Arnold turned to face the tunnel he had fallen down. while turning to face the tunnel he took a moment to clean the mud from his armor, but as he moved his hand to do so he stopped and stared. ''This is not mud...'' He muttered as he stared at his hand, the red sticky substance slowly dripped from his gauntlet. Lance's eyes moved to the tunnel, causing him to take a few steps backwards as he took out his cloth and covered his mouth. At the base of the tunnel and as far up as he could see where the remains of what seemed to of been the Ixa'taka slaves. Their fleshless bodies in positions as if they had been climbing for their lives only to of been caught and dragged back down the tunnel. ''I'm no expert but explosions and cave ins don't do this...'' Lance took a few more steps away from the tunnel as the smell finally hit him. Looking around it seemed that the tunnel was the only way in and out of the mine. Just then Arnold's ears caught a soft noise. ''Whose there?'' He spun around as he drew his sword. His eyes darted around the large room, up and down at the bridges as he tried to locate the sound. Suddenly the was a sound that Lance knew all to well, the sound of metal armor. He turned his head and spotted the source of the noise. ''Well, then.'' Lance said as he put his sword away. Standing in one of the odd shaped tunnels was a Valuan guard, his upper body still in the shadow of the tunnel but without a doubt he was one of the workers that became trapped. ''Not only will I have all the Moon Stones I need but I will be a hero to Valua too, how nice.'' Arnold grinned as he took a few steps towards the man. In doing so his view of the guard became better, which stopped him in his tracks. The Valuan man's armored appeared to of been stained with blood and not his own. ''Are you ok my good sir?'' Lance asked as he rested his hand against his sword. A few more steps closer hand he could make out the man's face on which doing so he took out his sword and pointed it at the man. His eyes where completely white, almost dead looking as if the man could not see. This was confirmed as the guard turned his head away from lance, raising it slightly as he sniffed the air. His face not only covered in cuts but stained blood too. ''Food...'' The guard muttered as he turned his head to face Lance. He let out a high pitch scream before running at Lance with his arms stretched out in front of him. ''Sorry, but you have lost it.'' Lance elegantly stepped to one side as to let the guard run past him and while doing so swiftly swung his blade and took of his un protected head. Before the body could hit the ground Lance heard more of the high pitch screaming. He looked up and saw a sight that made him think that maybe all the Moon Stones he could want was maybe not worth the trouble he was about to face. Above him in every tunnel and on every bridge where more Valuan Guards. All missing their helmets and weapons and all with the same look to their eyes. Arnold raised his hand and smirked at the men. ''My friends, you have all clearly lost your minds. So I, Arnold Lance will do you the honor of demoting you all to lower class Valuans.'' He tilted his head down and to raised his sword with a grin. ''...And what do I care if Lower Valuan's die.'' With that the first group of Guards closest to him jumped down from the bridge and landed around him. Lance's sword started to glow red once more. ''Pyres'' He called as the ground around the Guards that circled him cracked out, burned them to ash. No sooner as they had been killed more and more jumped down to join in the fight. Each one muttering the words food to themselves. (This is the main section of the lost mine, a massive room of many floors connected by bridges. The tunnel with Ixa'taka slave corpses is the only way in and out. The Valuan Guards have gone mad while trapped for years in the darkness and used the slaves for food. Their eyes are white as they have all become blind from the darkness, yet their hearing and smell has become much better. Food is all that is on their mind and they have long since stopped using weapons. However they make up for this in their numbers.) |

The flurry of beating wings died down behind her as Kokyrie sidled through the corridor. Its length was dotted with electric lights but many of them had gone out, leaving her path awash with shadows. Kokyrie proceeded with her crossbow at the ready. The pickaxe she'd acquired was looped through the weapon's shoulder strap, within easy reach on her back. Suddenly there came a distant rumbling, as if something had exploded nearby. The sound was muted by the thick walls of earth that surrounded her but Kokyrie could feel the floor shaking beneath her feet. Dirt showered down on her from above and the lights began to flicker. "That's all I need. A cave-in!" Kokyrie gasped. Fearing she would be crushed beneath the weight of the mountain the huntress dashed down the length of the corridor until she came to another open chamber. Crouching down at the end of the tunnel, using the thick shadows there to conceal her presence, Kokyrie scanned the room for any signs of further danger before proceeding further. The room was well lit by a bank of lights that encircled it. There wasn't much inside except for a stack of crates set against the far wall. "A dead end? Great, just great." Kokyrie sighed. She realized that she would have to backtrack through the tunnel and then wait for that flock of Tsoroks to calm down enough for her to sneak past them and find another exit. But just as she was turning to retrace her steps something caught Kokyrie's eye. On the wall just above the crates was a metal panel. "Hmm. There's something behind them?" She wondered aloud, taking comfort in the sound of her own voice. Shouldering her weapon Kokyrie stepped over to the crates for a closer inspection. At first Kokyrie tried to push the crates aside just enough to see what was behind them but they proved to be too heavy to budge even an inch. "Ugh, what is in these?" She grunted from the effort. Pulling out the pickaxe Kokyrie broke open one of the crates to see what was inside. "Huh, rocks? It's full of rocks." She muttered in confusion. Why anyone would store several boxes of rocks like this was beyond her. Kokyrie climbed atop the stack and crouched down to examine the metal panel from another angle. From there she could now see that it was a doorway. And then something clicked in her mind. "It's a barricade. Someone blocked the door. But for what reason?" Kokyrie realized that the fortune in Moon Stones she'd come here for had to lie somewhere beyond the blocked door. Why else would it have been made so difficult to enter? But she wasn't about to be deterred by such a mundane obstacle as this. Hefting her pickaxe Kokyrie set to work dismantling it. ~ Several minutes later Kokyrie wiped the sweat from her brow and stepped back to admire the fruit of her efforts. Most of the crates were still in place but a couple close to the top of the stack had been broken open, their contents tossed to one side, leaving a narrow gap between the top of the doorway and the rest of the crates. Kokyrie crouched down atop the stack once again and used the tip of her pickaxe to force the door open. It resisted her efforts for a moment and then somewhere within its inner workings some mechanism activated and the door slid smoothly to one side. Beyond it was a small and very cramped chamber just large enough for 3 or 4 people to stand inside of. "Not a door. It's an elevator." Kokyrie realized. "It must lead to one of the lower floors." Dropping her weapons through the opening Kokyrie shimmied after them on her belly and lowered herself to the elevator's floor. Replacing the crossbow and pickaxe she threw a switch mounted on the wall. With a whir of motors and the grinding of metal on metal the elevator descended down the narrow shaft. ~ Kokyrie crept down the silent corridor, keenly aware that she was no longer alone. She could feel the presence of others in the oppressive darkness. No one had yet discovered her location but she sensed that someone was nearby. The skills as a huntress she had learned during her youth in Ixa'ness served Kokyrie well. Her keen ears could detect the sounds of raspy breathing and the quiet jingle of metal armor. And yet her stealthy movements were all but silent, allowing her to keep her presence a secret. Unfortunately Kokyrie could not see in the darkness. It was a risky move but she would need to relight her lantern if she were to proceed further. Then again if she did that the light would draw the attention of whoever was down here with her almost immediately. If only she had something a little less conspicuous to light her way with. It was then that Kokyrie remembered that she had just such a thing with her. The matches she'd used to light the lantern might provide just enough illumination to show her the way without drawing attention to her. It was worth a shot anyway. Rummaging through her pouch as quietly as she could Kokyrie soon located the box of matches. The dry rustle of the thick paper box being slid open was like thunder in the oppressive silence of the tunnel. The crackle of the match head dragging across it was louder still. And then a small circle around Kokyrie was awash in its feeble flickering light. *ssssnnnnffff* Another quiet sound broke the silence from somewhere up ahead of her. Kokyrie strained her ears to listen for it to repeat itself. Her hand instinctively hefted her crossbow and pointed it into the darkness. To her it had sounded like the sharp intake of breath, as if someone had gasped. *sssnnnfff...ssssnnnnffff* Again she heard the sound, this time recognizing it. Someone or something was sniffing the air. With a start she realized that she could not hide her presence from a creature that located its prey using its sense of smell. "Oh no, the match!" Kokyrie thought silently to herself. Even now the strong scent of smoke wafted playfully beneath her own nostrils. The smell of the match being struck had been much stronger than the light it generated. "sssnnnfff...smoke? Food?" A raspy voice muttered from the darkness. It was accompanied by the sound of movement. Someone, yes a human being, was moving in her direction. Kokyrie winced in pain and dropped the match as its flame burned down its length to singe her fingertips. At the same time she rose to her feet and took aim with her crossbow. Kokyrie closed her eyes and concentrated on the sound. "Food!" The voice cried out again, this time with an air of certainty. The speaker was much closer now, the jingle of his armor making his movement easy to follow. She opened her eyes and sighted down the length of her arrow. Only the pitch-black darkness met her sight but it was a hard habit to break. Kokyrie slowed her breathing and resisted the urge to pull the trigger. With such low visibility her accuracy wouldn't count for much. Her quarry would have to be right in front of her before she took her shot. She listened to its approach, the ragged breathing and clatter of plate mail, until it was only a couple of feet away. Kokyrie took a deep breath and held it. Her finger tensed on the trigger. And then... Suddenly the tunnel was awash in harsh, blinding light. Someone somewhere must have thrown a switch. Kokyrie's pupils shrank and she shielded her eyes reflexively in the sudden brightness. She had only managed to glimpse the thing that was coming for her in that split-second before she'd been rendered night-blind. The image of a haggard man in Valuan plate mail had been burned into her retinas. And then he was upon her. Unaffected by the lights the Valuan soldier bore Kokyrie to the ground and the two began to struggle. "I...I hunger! I must feed!" The man howled. Kokyrie pushed him away with her arms as she blinked frantically, trying to get her eyes to refocus. After a few seconds her vision cleared and she gazed up into the face of her assailant. Kokyrie gasped in horror at the sight of him. His eyes loomed white and sightless above her and his rotting yellow teeth were bare, like those of a beast. A string of drool slid from the corner of his mouth to moisten her tattooed cheek. "Ugh, get off me you creep!" Kokyrie growled but the soldier didn't react. Instead his neck craned down and his jaw parted wider. It wasn't until then that Kokyrie found the meaning behind the soldier's words. She had accepted the fact that he was hungry but only now realized that he intended to slake his hunger by feeding upon HER! The soldier was strong and his armor added a lot of weight to his body. Kokyrie's strength was ebbing fast. Soon she wouldn't be able to hold him at bay any longer. "Got to risk it." She thought silently. Kokyrie braced her left forearm against the soldier's throat while lowering her right hand. The blind soldier's slathering jaw dipped dangerously close to her face as Kokyrie fumbled around on the floor next to her. His tongue snaked out and slid across her cheek, causing her to wince. "Yes, it tastes like food!" The soldier crowed. "Eat this instead!" Kokyrie's arm came up grasping the bolt from her fallen crossbow. She plunged it into the soldier's neck, driving it in up to its fletching. The soldier gasped and his arms began to spasm as the life drained out of him. "So...hungry." His dying words came out as a quiet whisper. Another strand of drool, this one mixed with blood, slid from his mouth to stain Kokyrie's shirt. "Don't hunt what you can't kill." Kokyrie recited an old Ixa'ness saying as she glared up into his slack features. She shifted the dead man's weight to one side and scrambled out from beneath him. Kokyrie took a moment to collect her wits and her weapons but then realized that she didn't have a moment to spare. The huntress could hear movement all around her. "More of them?" She sighed. It seemed that there were judging from the frantic sound of motion echoing all around her in the narrow corridor. And from somewhere up ahead it sounded like the feral soldiers were fighting over something. Loading another bolt into her crossbow Kokyrie crept forward to investigate. |

Jareth came to what seemed to be the end of the tunnel which had taken him deep into the mine. With no obvious exit it seemed like he would have to head back on himself and look for another route. As he turned around in the dark tunnel his foot kicked lose what appeared to be a metal grate on the floor. With no time to react the floor gave way and Jareth fell from the tunnel, down into a dark chamber. Jareth had fallen into a deep chamber, darkness all around him. However the drop was great and had caused him to become unconscious, not that he was going far as both his legs had taken the impact of the fall. With two broken legs and trapped in the darkness he was lucky that his was not awake for what awaited him. A sniffing sound came from each corner of the room as someone or something shuffled towards Jareth. ''Food...'' The words repeated themselves around the chamber. ~ ''Now now, there is plenty for all.'' Arnold mocked as another valuan fell to his feet. One by one the guards approached with caution, knowing that their comrades where falling but not knowing why. ''This is almost too easy.'' Lance slashed out at another while avoiding direct contact. ''Keep your arms to yourself, you'll dirty up my suit.'' Suddenly one of the guards took a chance and rushed at Arnold who answered with a slash of his blade. The sword cut short as the guard stopped in his tracks, his hand reached out towards Arnold as the blade made contact. The Valuan stood for a moment with his arm out, the hand in front of him on the ground in a pool of blood. ''You odd best?'' Lance raised and eyebrow at the fact the Valuan did not cry out in pain. It was then he noticed the state of the skin and that these men had probably lost the feeling in their bodies long ago. Just as he was about to finish him off the Valuan let out a high pitched scream. ''A little late aren't we?'' Lance joked. Then he realized that the scream was not because of any type of pain. He looked around as the other Valuans grouped together. ''Smart..'' Arnold took a step backwards, the scream was to inform the others of what type of weapon was being used against them. Knowing this Arnold was not too surprised that their attack pattern suddenly changed. He was now having to take on groups of four at a time. ''well, I'll hand it to you.'' Arnold said as he swung his sword just to keep them at bay. ''Your pretty dangerous in your numbers.'' Arnold kept the small group at bay while the others higher up seemed to sniff the air as to keep track of him. Without realizing it he had been pushed back to the large entrance that he had come down. His foot knocked against one of the Ixa'taka bones, making it roll out in front of him. An idea came to mind and he picked up the bone and tossed it across the room. As it flew though the air the Valuans seemed to stop sniffing and started to listen. The bone crashed against one of the metal pillars, the sound echoing all around. In a flash a large group of the guards jumped at the bone, slashing at anything they could with their metal gauntlets. Using the distraction to his advantage he ran to the center of the room where there was a large metal square on the ground. He stood just in front of it as he used his sword to cut a rope that hung next to the square. Quickly he tied it around his hand before letting out a loud whistle. ''Hey you guys!'' He mocked, gaining the attention of the creatures. No sooner as he spoke the valuans on the ground level came running at him. Just moments away from their lunch Arnold slashed the rope on the opposite side of the metal square. Next came a loud noise of falling metal scraping against metal pillars. Arnold shot up into the air as the rope pulled him up. He had stood under the central elevator and now it was on a crash course to the ground level. Arnold flew two floors up before letting go of the rope, landing on one of the metal bridges. He looked over the side just as the elevator crashed into a group of the guards who had positioned themselves under the old elevator. Not to his surprise the surviving guards seemed to completey forget about him as they started to help themselves to what remained of their comrades. ''And I thought the Ixa'taka people where savages?'' Lance joked as he turned his attention to the guards on the bridge. Two faced him, sniffing the air as they started to move closer. ''Two of you is no match for me, Arnold Lance!'' Arnold announced as he held his blade up. ''Arhhhh.'' A cry called out as one of the guards from the bridge just above came falling down, passing Lance and the bridge he was on. ''Well that guy is in a hurry.'' Arnold joked as he watched him fall by, yet in doing so he caught sight of what was standing behind him. Leaping out of the way of an oncoming arm he noticed that another six guards where just behind him. Without a moment's thought he dug his sword into the first guard as he swung himself around, launching the man into the two he had mocked. All three fell over as Lance ran on by. He headed for the door but found it to be bolted shut. ''How do you creatures get around?'' He asked as he turned to face them, just in time to block another swing. ''Back off!'' He yelled as his sword started to glow bright red. ''Pyres'' the bridge started to glow red just as Arnold realized his mistake. Before he could react the bridge burst into flames as it crumbled under the heat. Lucky for the Valuan Black Pirate he gripped the edge of the bridge just below him as the guards fell right past it. Lance had no more time to mess around, he knew he had to get out from there as there seemed to be more and more guards no matter where he went. With the doors all seemed to be bolted he looked up, wondering just how high he would have to climb. That was when he remembered the large round holes. ''No time to pick, just run with it.'' He told himself as the next wave of guards approached him. |

Kokyrie made her way down the corridor, the silence of her movement broken only by the quiet sound of her breathing. And yet she feared that even this slight amount of noise would attract the attention of the feral Valuans who prowled the tunnels. As a huntress herself Kokyrie was keenly aware that her scent was more of a problem right now. The soldiers' sense of smell seemed to have become heightened to compensate for their blindness, as was their sense of hearing. She could mask the latter but the former would require a bit more cunning. "I can smell it.....food." A raspy voice came from just around a bend in the tunnel. The rattle of armor and shuffle of movement indicated that another of the cannibalistic soldiers had picked up her scent and was coming for her. "At least they don't travel in packs." Kokyrie mused silently. "They probably aren't into sharing their spoils." Shouldering her crossbow she drew her pickaxe and sprinted forward. Kokyrie moved quietly despite her haste and was on top of the soldier before he was even aware that she was so close. He was crouched upon the tunnel floor on all fours, like a beast. As she drew near his head whipped around in her direction, revealing his sightless eyes and jagged teeth. Kokyrie swung her arms upward, bringing the pick axe around to deliver an underhanded blow to the Valuan. Its sharp tip connected with the underside of his jaw and drove upward into his skull, killing him instantly. Kokyrie struggled with his dead weight as he collapsed and slowly lowered him to the floor. She withdrew the bloodied pick axe from his skull and then knelt over the body, much like an animal herself. The stink of old blood, sweat and human waste was thick on the soldier's corpse and Kokyrie was loathe to touch it. But she also understood that the overpowering stench was perfect for what she had in mind. Surveying the body Kokyrie reached down to gingerly loosen the dead man's gauntlets. She removed them, one-by-one, and laid them aside. Then, using her fingernails, Kokyrie tore the sleeves from the soldier's uniform and slid them down the length of his arms. Kokyrie held the sleeves up to her nose and blanched. They stank. They were perfect. She slid the sleeves around her own arms and rolled their cuffs inward to keep them from sliding down around her wrists. Now her scent was masked by the odor of the dead soldier. If she encountered any more of them they would not be able to tell her apart from one of their own. ~ The cannibalistic soldier stood at the mouth of the tunnel and turned its sightless eyes upon Arnold. The floor below echoed with a cacophony of sounds and roiled with a mixture of smells. The howls of his comrades mixed with their cries of pain, the scent of their blood mingled with the aroma of charred flesh. But through it all the soldier's keen sense could detect one sound, one scent that stood out from all the others. It was foreign to this underground world of darkness and death. And that could mean only one thing. "Food." The soldier growled. His legs gathered beneath him as the soldier prepared to lunge down into the chaos and eat its fill before the others stripped Arnold's bones clean. But instead the soldier's limbs went numb and it toppled from the mouth of the tunnel. The shaft of a crossbow bolt was lodged firmly in the back of his skull. A split second later and Kokyrie was occupying the space the soldier had so recently vacated. She scanned the area below, picking Arnold out from the rest. His pink sash made him easy to see and his armor was much cleaner and shinier than anything being worn by the ghoulish Valuans. And somehow it seemed familiar to Kokyrie. She was certain she'd never met this man but something about him rang a bell inside her head. Perhaps she had heard of such a person in passing before? Shrugging off the notion Kokyrie sat to work. Whoever he was this would be the last anyone heard of him ever again if something wasn't done about these infernal savages! Arnold was standing on a narrow catwalk several feet above the floor with hungry cannibals closing in on either side of him. The catwalk ran parallel to the tunnel Kokyrie was in so she couldn't reach him at the moment. But that wasn't her plan at all. For the moment the tunnel behind her was clear and her perch above the main floor was an excellent sniping point. She was planning to stay put for a while. Kokyrie's first target was a soldier who was preparing to jump down onto the catwalk from a tunnel above. She was about to call out a warning to Arnold but thought better of it. Her voice would only draw the soldiers towards her. Instead she quickly reloaded her crossbow and loosed a bolt that struck him in the stomach. He fell from the tunnel, screaming all the way down. By now the feral soldiers had Arnold surrounded on the bridge. But the flamboyant Valuan managed to knock two of them down and escape from their trap. "He's a clever one." Kokyrie silently appraised Arnold's prowess. "Wait. Spoke too soon." She muttered a moment later when he demolished the very bridge he'd been standing atop. The guard's fell from the shattered bridge to be dashed against the ground below. Arnold managed to break his fall with a lucky grab at its remains. And then he was gone; disappearing into one of the holes dug into the walls. "I'd better keep track of him." Kokyrie reckoned. "I might need his help to get out of this in one piece." Kokyrie stood up, dusted the dirt from her pants and then began backtracking through her own tunnel. In her mind she was trying to see how it might be connected to the one Arnold had taken. Just ahead of her was a right-hand turn. She turned the corner and came face-to-face with one of the soldiers. She stifled a gasp and nimbly stepped around it. The soldier's arm lashed out, shoving her roughly against the tunnel wall. Kokyrie braced herself for an attack but none came. "Back!" The soldier growled at her. She realized then that her plan was working. He was picking up the scent of his dead comrade and not hers. Silently thanking the Green Moon for her good fortune Kokyrie scuttled away from the soldier and continued down the tunnel. She followed it around another corner and nearly fell head-over-heels as the floor of the tunnel descended on a shallow incline. Half-sliding Kokyrie made her way down it and nearly ran right into another of the armored soldiers at the bottom. Kokyrie might have leapt out of her boots with surprise at that moment if she'd been wearing any. Her crossbow leapt upward and her finger tensed on the trigger. But she recognized the shiny plate mail and pink sash he was wearing before she could pull it. This was the same man as before; the one she'd been looking for. Kokyrie didn't have a clue as to who he was but he would at least be easier to get along with than the hungry savages. That was all she needed to know about him right now. Kokyrie took a moment to look the flamboyant soldier-come-pirate up and down. Her lips twitched upward in a crooked grin in appreciation of what she saw. "Well, hello handsome." She purred softly. "You come here often?" She added teasingly. |
