In a way, part of Alba's mind thought, This was rather comical. The mass of guards chasing after a girl carrying a lance rifle, the only reason that she was not caught was that her pursuers were wearing heavy armor that significantly reduced their speed. The rest of Alba's mind, though, was not as positive. It was near completely focused on stayig alive. While she did not realize it, Bear's war roar had reached her as well. To her, it simply felt like her body responding to the flight part of her mind. To the following guards, however, it was suddenly like they were chasing an injured and frightened Looper, making many either stop the chase and fire at the running Alba, or continueing the chase in vain. By the time she had realized how far away from the guards she was, she had already jumped one of the dividers between the lower and upper sections of the Coliseum and was around halfway around the Coliseum. As a result of this, she had a good view of the back of the machine and the 'fight' part of her brain assumed control. She aimed the lance rifle at one of the cameras on the machine and fired, adjusting her aim as the bullet went wide and fired twice more. She was mostly hoping for a hit right now. |

(OOC - Until his return I will be posting during Daiohma's turn so I will post now, the Karl is up, I'll post again using Daiohma's character and then Raiu will be up.) Illyrian was making short work of the first squad of Valuan soldiers with Captain Daiohma thinning their ranks even further. That left Bear the daunting task of tackling both the second squad as well as the Gladiator. Fortunately the Viking had an idea about how to level the playing field a bit. ' We need to organize a plan of attack, and take down that monster." Daiohma said as he came trotting up to join Bear. "I'm working on that right now actually." The big Glacian answered. "Just back me up here." The Valuan captain saluted and together the two men moved towards the group of guards who still had the Gladiator surrounded. These men were armed with spears rather than swords and were putting them to good use keeping the interlopers at a distance. Bear was having none of that however. "Sorry lad but I need this!" The Viking apologized as he seized the haft of one of the many spears being thrust at him and gave it a hard tug. The soldier held fast to his weapon though and a tug-of-war began between the two men. It lasted only a moment though as Bear gave a second tug and then thrust the weapon backwards just as the soldier pulled back on it. The butt end of the spear rammed into the soldier's chest, toppling him over. Bear came away with the spear and Daiohma rushed in to swiftly finish the fallen man off with a quick thrust of his claw. "Now what?" The captain asked in confusion. Bear grinned. "Follow me." The two men slowly paced alongside the roaming Gladiator while the Valuan guards warily kept themselves between the three. Bear halted, doubled back and then began moving forward again. "What exactly are we doing here?" Daiohma asked. "Just getting things all lined up nice and neat." Bear said. "About......right there should do." Then, raising his stolen spear he took aim and loosed it with a mighty throw. The soldiers. flinched in response but the spear was not aimed at them. Instead it struck against the side of the Gladiator's head with a dull clang of metal against metal. The effects were swift and brutal. The Gladiator's eyes flashed in response to the attack and the machine swiftly spun around to face whomever had thrown the spear. Its flank struck one of the nearby soldiers and sent him flying in the process. "Get ready to run." Bear suggested. Daiohma did not need to be told what he was running from. In a spray of sand and dirt the Gladiator charged straight towards the Viking who had begun jumping up and down, waving his arms to get the machine's attention. Its path of destruction led right through the ranks of the defending guards and three were crushed beneath its heavy treads. Bear leapt to the side to avoid the oncoming juggernaut but Daiohma held his position. "CRYSTALUM!" He cried, raising hims gauntlet to the sky. In response a thick pillar of ice burst from the ground in front of him. The Gladiator was moving too fast to stop in time and it ploughed straight into the icy barrier and ground to a halt. Thick black smoke began pouring from its chassis. With agonizing slowness the machine reversed out of the frozen debris and turned in a lazy circle to steer clear of it. This brought the machine into line with Alba's wild shots from the stands. One flew wide while the second grazed its helmet to no affect. The third however struck the Gladiator full in the face, shattering its cameras. Now unarmed, blinded and scarecely able to move Deloco's invention was almost helpless. Only a handful of the guards who had arrived to retrieve it were still alive. The battle was nearly finished. |

Well, everything finally seemed to be going their way. Wonderful. The thing was blind, stuck, and disarmed, but Illyrian was not comfortable relaxing just yet; it wasn't a pile of useless rubble yet, after all. The obvious tactic now would be to simply blast away with all his power, but that was much too obvious, and there were still guards lurking about that could get him in the back while he was blasting; he had survived one backstabber already, he wasn't sure he could take another. So instead of facing it directly he decided to put the guards to work for him. 'Wevlum!' he shouted, sweeping his Blue Moonstone in a wide horizontal arc before him; strong, wet winds blew through the arena, forcing the soldiers into a bunch and herding them before the Gladiator. Bear and Daioh were unaffected by the sudden gale, save for a bit of damp mist on their clothes. Even crippled as it was the Gladiator should still have been a threat; the soldiers weren't long for this world. Once they were all wrapped up, the sorcerer decided, he'd focus on putting the machine out of their miseries. He held up his Red Moonstone, and it slowly built up its fiery energies; this would be the explosion to end all explosions, provided he wasn't interrupted while getting it ready. Hopefully the others would look out for him, but without the guards milling around every which way the chance of distractions was slim. Of course, the Blue spell hadn't taken care of the guards up in the stands who were pursuing Alba, but he had faith she could see to them herself. Bear's buff was a strong one, after all, and she was not without skill. |

The machine was now a moving wreck. No longer something of terror, but still It could do as much harm as an out of control tank. The machine could turn at any moment and head towards the homes of the people of Valua. The state that the machine was in it was only a matter of time now until it was completely finished. Daiohma was surprised to see a pirate have such a good battle plan for a monster like this, but what was worrying was how much information Bear had already gathered on Daiohma himself during this battle. There was no time to stop and wonder as the machine was still moving, slowly but as long as it was moving it was still a danger. The guards around them had become smaller in number, most of them were now mashed into the ground under the sheer weight of the machine's treads. The sight was not something new to the captain, he had seen many bodies disposed of by monsters before. This time however was different, these men were that of the Valuan Armada, attacking Valuan people, then finally crushed by their leaders own creation. This made Daiohma rethink his position as a Valuan captain, it was as if his eyes had finally been opened to the outside world. Bear was not Valuan, he had come here to save pirates that where in no way from the same place as he was. Yet he also stopped to save the people of lower Valua. On top of all this two members of some high class Valuan families were also fighting to stop the machine. With no time to collect his thoughts, Daiohma just knew that what he had done this day was for the good of the people he was to protect, Valuan or pirate. With that he hit the ground with his gauntlet as he called out to Bear, ''Watch your step!'' His purple moonstone started to shine again, once more he was ready to cover the ground around the monster but this time it was not an attempt to slip it up. ''Crystali'' He called out, the ground surly as before started to freeze over, however this time as the machine was so close and moving at such a slow speed the ice no only covered the ground around it but started to move up it's treads. ''I'm not sure if that will hold it, but it should give you an opening.'' True to his word, even if the treads became covered in ice there was no way in knowing if it would hold the machine in place. After all it was a machine and not some living monster. Daiohma could only hope that this would give the others enough time for a large attack before it started to move again. ''Come on, hold!'' Daiohma muttered as the ice started to move up the treads. |

Alba quickly ran away from where she had been shooting. The machine was blind and would soon be running attacks her way, or rather, the direction in which it had been shot. It was simple logic and the fact that her pursuers were catching up to her. She was still feeling the effects of the war roar but its effects were starting to fade. Her legs started to feel heavier and she didn't run quite as fast, but she was able to ignore it and run. Actually damaging that moster of a machine that much really helped her confidance. And she was planning on doing even more damage soon. Once she was a good bit away from her last shooting position, she stopped and sent an electri at the machine, following it with two shots from the lance rifle. She wanted to do more but it clicked on empty and she had no more bullets. "Damn!" Now, since she was carrying little more than a heavy lance, she turned and ran away again. Hopefully she did some good there. If not... Well, the others could cover for her. Edited by Raiu, Jun 2 2011, 09:10 PM.

(OOC - This is the fourth round of the final stage. There is one round after this and that will mark the end of the event. So get your parting shots in now.) Bear felt a little envious as everyone except him began utilizing magical attacks against the Gladiator. Illyrian was using a wind spell to herd the remaining soldiers together while Daiohma seemed to have immobilized the Gladiator with his icy magic. But when Alba's lightning bolt was loosed all three attacks mingled together in one devastating, yet totally unplanned, combination. The soldiers stood shaking off the effects of the Black Mage's spell. They were still dizzy and disoriented from being spun about and toss through the air. They were directly in front of the Gladiator which was now held in place by Daiohma's ice. Alba's Electri spell had no trouble finding its mark on so large and stationary a target. It struck the Gladiator in its damaged chest. The electrical attack penetrated the machine's armor to reach its power core. The sudden power surge gave the Gladiator an immediate boost in power. The dying machine went into full throttle, shattering Daiohma's wall of ice and ramming headlong into the mob of soldiers who were standing in front of it. Most of them were either killed outright by the impact or were flung away with broken bones and internal injuries. The Gladiator's wild charge carried it across the width of the arena where it crashed into the wall, compounding whatever damage it had already sustained. The machine ground to a halt not far from Alba's location. Bear watched the whole event with wide eyes. "Damn." He muttered. Bending down he picked up a small rock from the ground and tossed it at the machine. It struck the Gladiator's metal flank with a dull 'clang' and fell harmlessly to the ground. "Sorry guys, best I could do." He apologizes sheepishly. |

"No more soldiers, no more mooks, no more warden's dirty looks," Illyrian chanted gleefully to himself. "What now, what now." Everything was coming together, and the Red Moonstone in his hand would spell the end of this debacle. Well, not the stone itself, but the spell he would cast from it, the huge red ball of fire that would incinerate everything caught in its reach. Including that infernal machine. He was standing to his full height, the shimmering stone a bright star in his hand, his flawless green eyes fixed on the crippled Gladiator; without the soldiers milling about making a mess of things he could finally concentrate, and he planned on making it show. "Mm, I do hope Miss Adelina gets out of there... it was a good trick at the last from her. Hopefully it wasn't her last trick." He glanced about, at the dead bodies of soldier and commoner alike. Part of him reckoned he should be a little less cheerful about the business; death was supposed to be grim, after all, and some of that lot may have had families they were feeding. But he was incapable of taking such considerations seriously; he enjoyed killing, he took pleasure in exercising his magics to the detriment of his enemies. If that made him an evil person in others' estimation, so be it. He didn't give a damn what lesser men thought. But this group, now. His unsettling gaze flicked up toward Bear, and Daioh, and Alba crouching in the stands. These three had fought as well, with little hesitation; perhaps they didn't throw themselves into it quite as wholeheartedly as Illyrian had, but few people could. He spared a moment for Roarke, who had come out of nowhere and fallen just as quickly; no doubt the battle would have gone easier if the old battlemaster had survived, but such was life. You gave as good as you got, and then some, or you died; it was as easy as that. He looked at his Moonstone again, reveling in the intensity of its light and heat; the lurid red glare lit up the entire arena, and their shadows were dark things that seemed as if they would leap up and strangle their owners at any moment. Every moment it grew brighter and hotter, as Illyrian's power combined with and agitated the energies of the stone; it was a rare trick, and he was conceited enough to believe no one else had figured it out, and it served to elevate the power of his spells to the level of the legends he sought to supplant and replace one day. He had to make sure and spread word of this day's events, too; it would make a nice addition to the stories people whispered about him, standing up against soldiers and machines alike for the sake of the common folk. It wouldn't do to downplay the efforts of his comrades in this fight, of course. Not too much, anyway. By that time the heat of the Moonstone was emanating everywhere, making the arena feel like the deserts of Nasr. "Good enough," he whispered, bringing his hand back. "Now you die, you infernal machine. PYRULEN!!" He thrust his hand forward as he shouted the spell's name, and a ball of fire streaked toward the Gladiator. The ensuing explosion was worthy of the name of Telcondera, though his allies were unaffected as usual. Not so much the machine or the environment, of course. "Boom boom, bye bye!" the Black Mage shouted, shielding his eyes from the blast. Then he laughed, and it was a distinctly unpleasant laugh. |

The sound of the small rock bouncing of the metal frame of the Machine rang around Daiohma's head. Bear may of not realized it but he had given the captain an Idea. ''We are going to need a bigger rock.'' He jokingly called out to Bear as he made a dash for the Machine that was now against the colosseum wall where it had crashed after it's sudden power surge thanks to Alba. As he ran across the coliseum he had to make he way around the endless bodies that now occupied the floor of the arena. Mostly Guards, some wearing colours of his own fleet. This did not stop him however, the destruction of this machine would be a huge blow against the Armada and their selfish ways. When Daiohma became a captain he swore down to protect the people of Valua, this included people in lower Valuan who the Armada seem to of forgotten are people of Valua too. Daiohma's target was of course the machine, His direction took a little detour towards the side of the coliseum and towards a wall. He did not slow down as the wall got closer, instead he jumped at the wall, ''Crystali'' in a flash of purple light the wall became covered in ice, using his metal boots he dug them into the wall while still running. The sight of him almost running across a wall like this would of been shocking for anyone who did not understand moonstone magic, like most people from the lowest depths of Valuan. Now standing at the top of the coliseum wall he could get a good view on everything. ''Just as I thought.'' He said to himself as he took a look at the coliseum wall just above where the gladiator had hit. The impact of the machine had cracked the wall in many places. His ice alone would not be enough to shatter the cracks, he would need something more powerful to bring the wall down on this monster of a machine. Would a wall falling on top of it stop it? He did not know, after all this was Deloc's machine. Suddenly a red light caught his eyes from across the colosseum, as he looked down towards the light he could make out Illyrain, he was casting a spell. There was no doubt in Daiohma's mind that Illyrain was most likely going for a top end powerful spell. ''Got to time this just right!'' He jumped down towards the wall, using his claws to dig into the cracks. He was now hanging from the colosseum wall just above were the machine had stopped. With his claws dug into the wall he turned to look over at Illyrain. ''Got to time this just right!'' Suddenly he saw the huge fire ball burst from Illyrains direction, he turned back to the wall and focused all he strength into his gauntlet. ''Crystali'' He called out once more. The wall quickly covered in ice, the cracks froze over. Now he just hoped that the burst from the flames did not just help destroy the machine but hopefully melted the ice to help the wall come down on top of the gladiator. Just as the ball of fire rushed towards Daiohma he pulled out his gauntlet from the now ice covered wall and jumped to his right, aiming for the stands where the people of upper Valua were once seated. |

Alba eventually tired and the guards slowly started to catch up to her. Running wouldn't do her any good so she turned and took a breath. True the lance was quite a bit heavier than she was used to wielding but she thought she could use it like her rapier. "I'm not going to let you touch me." Her yellow moonstone ring started to glow and the metal of the lance started to spark with electricity. BEGIN SP MOVE: Earth and lightning The first guard had gotten rid of his lance gun and was now wielding his sword. He swung at Alba but she blocked the blade and stabbed him through his adominal armor, his belly, and his back armor. She was used to death now, more than a little jaded and more worried about her physical self that her spirtual self right now. She yanked the lance out as the man spat blood and spazimed to his death. "Who is next?" |

(OOC - This is the final round of the event. Give your characters reaction to one last attack and then make an exit from the Coliseum.) Daiohma's ice spread throughout the damaged wall, forcing its way into every crevice. It expanded, pushing the crumbling masonry further apart and weakening the wall even further. Only the ice itself now held the wall together. Illyrian's fiery magic once again assailed the Gladiator. This time it was able to penetrate the machine's thick armor. A good deal of the non-metallic components inside of the iron goliath simply ceased to exist beneath the fiery blast, leaving the Gladiator all but useless now. Only its core, still heavily shielded, continued to function. The Pyrulen spell also served to melt the ice that was holding the wall up. With its disappearance several tons of stone rained down on the ruined machine, burying it in a mockery of a warrior's funeral. Unfortunately more than just the wall fell. Alba and her pursuers came down along with the stone. The guards crashed down atop the rubble like flowers being laid atop the Gladiator's grave. Still feeling the Berserker Rage burning within him Bear bolted across the arena. "Gotcha!" He bellowed as Alba fell into his arms. The Viking grinned down fiercely upon her for a moment. Then his cheeks began to burn in embarrassment at holding her in such a familiar way and he set her back down upon her feet. "Well, I'd say that was that." Bear said as he observed the carnage that filled the arena. Dozens of bodies lay strewn across its floor, the wall was wrecked and the terrible machine that had menaced them only moments before was out of commission. ~ Bear made his way back to where Illyrian and Daiohma were waiting. "Well, I certainly wasn't expecting all of this when I woke up this morning. Still, I think we did pretty well." The Viking extended his hand to both of the men in a show of respect. But before either of them could return the gesture the rubble behind them began to shift and the sound of stone grating against stone echoed around the arena. To everyone's shock the Gladiator emerged from its stony crypt and began rolling towards them in agonizing slowness. Its body was blackened by fire and bent to the point where its upper half could not be recognized. One of its treads had come loose and was slapping at the ground with each revolution and black smoke seeped from a dozen cracks in its body. Due to some miracle the speaker on the machine's front had survived. The sound of heavy panting issued from it a moment before it crackled back to life. "You....you....you'll PAY FOR THIS!" Deloco's voice once again sounded from his invention. "You might have bested my precious machine but I'll get the last laugh! Ah hahahahahaaaaa!" A bright yellow glow began to shine within the Gladiator's broken frame as its core went into meltdown. Deloco's maniacal laughter continued to berate the group as he sentenced his own creation to death, hoping to take everyone down with it. "It's gonna blow! Hit the dirt!" Bear roared. The Viking ran as hard as he could in the opposite direction. He was aiming for the huge wooden doors and the tunnel beyond them but doubted he'd make it in time. Bear could feel the hairs on the back of his prick up a split second before the machine exploded. The concussive force and intense heat struck him in the back and sent him sprawling into the dirt. There he lay, huddled against the violent waves for several seconds. When at last the air stilled and silence returned he stood up, checking himself over for wounds. There were several small gashes in his arms and legs where chunks of flying stone had struck him but he was otherwise unharmed. Glancing around Bear picked out movement around the battlefield and was relieved to see everyone else had survived as well. ~ In the end Bear stood with his hand extended once again to the trio of Valuans who had helped him to carry the day. "Well met strangers. I hope to meet you all again someday." He said as his eyes misted over with emotion. Underneath the muscles and fur the Viking was a big softie. As they said their goodbyes a large shadow appeared over the arena. "Hey Bear! Get the lead out! We've got to go before the Armada shows up!" An attractive woman dressed all in green called down from the deck of an airship that had come to hover over the arena floor. "Coming Mabel!" Bear called up to her. Then, turning back to the group he continued. "The skies are vast but I'm sure that day will come!" A rope ladder dropped down from the deck of the Albatross and Bear clambered up. As the ship pulled away he raised his arm in farewell. |
