I have never really been good at describing people, so this is to help me out while I type. bear with me.

Name: James Harlock

Other names: Prefers to be called Harlock

Age: 25

Hair: Blonde hair, goes past the shoulders by a short amount. Bit shaggy

Eyes: Blue, but a black eye patch covers his left eye (detailed in the history.)

Nationality: Valuan

Family: Parents dead, sister missing

Personality: He has been known to be a romantic and a womenizer, but his chief quality is his ambitious spirit. When he sets his mind to something, he goes at it with all his might. He is also very polite and gentlemen like, taking the code of honor that Valuan officers are supposed to adhere to seriously.

Occupation: Ex-Valuan Captain/ Merc

Clothing: A red Valuan captains jacket, left unbuttoned at all times, with a simple cotton shirt underneath it. he wears black leather pants, with a belt slung loosely around it.

Body Shape: Military build

Markings and Accessories: A ring with the symbol of his family, a blood red hawk.

Weapons: Pirate Cutlass, two single shot pistols.

Items: Journal, picture of his sister

Moonstone(s): Yellow Moonstone, Electri, Electres, Driln

Skills: Having gone through military school, he knows the finer points of combat, though his proficiency is with a sword. He also knows how to navigate a ship, and has some knowledge of tactics. The latter however has become rusty, as he has not been in command of a warship for some time.

He also has gained a proficency with languages.

History: Born into a military family in the Valuan Empire, he was thrust into Military school when he was old enough. From age six-sixteen he would attend one of Valuas best Military academies. However, when Harlock was eight, tragedy struck when a fire tore through the neighborhood his family lived in. The entire house was gutted and ruined, leaving his parents and other relatives dead. When the soldiers combed the wrecked neighborhood, they found no trace of his sister.

In an instant, he was orhpaned. He soon was worried about whether or not he would be able to continue attending the school. Despite what had happened, he wished to carry on his families legacy and uphold their name as one of the great military families of Valua. Then, when all hope seemed lost, an Anonymous officer took sent word to the school, donating a large sum of gold and asking them to let Harlock continue on the basis that he maintained good grades and remained in line. Harlock would spend a good deal of time trying to figure out who this benefactor was, but to no avail.

For the next four years, he would push himself to do the best, and began to excell at his classes in all fields. By age twelve, he was offered the chance to enter Officers training, which he took on the spot. From twelve to sixteen, he went through enourmous amounts of work to graduate at the top of his class, always reminding himself how proud his family would be if they could see him.

When he graduated at age sixteen, he became a commissioned Lt. aboard a Valuan patrol ship. He continued to work hard, reaching the rank of captain within four years. It was during these years he earned a reputation as being a womanizer and a romantic.

After being Captain for a year, he was sent to Ixa'Taxa to help keep order in the area. His time there shatter his belief in the codes of honor he had been taught while in the academy, and he was horrified by the treatment the Ixa'Taxans recieved. He requested an immediate transfer, but was denied. So, against orders, he took his ship to a small island called Windmill Island, where he disembarked after promoting his first officer to Captain.

When the inhabitants found out who he was, and why he was on their island, he was detained briefly by the men, and was brought before Dyne himself, who was worried Harlocks arrival was an Armada trick. Proving his position took some careful back and forth, but in the end Dyne accepted his story as the truth. He evevn offered Harlock a chance to sail with them, but Harlock declined. He didnt wish to fight Valua as a blue rogue, and simply wanted to sail the skies for a time to find out who he truly was.

He would remain on Pirate Isle for a week, where a very confident young man attempted to convince him to stay, but he had made his mind up. He was dropped off on Sailors Island, where he quickly became a Mercenary, working for whoever was willing to accept his terms, which involved no orders that would break his code of honor.

He adventured for the remaining time up to the events involving Soltis, Galcian, and Ramirez. By this time, he didnt consider himself a loyal Valuan citizen, but still thought of himself as Valuan. When the conflict was over, he spent another two years trying to find himself, for once again his own beliefs were shattered, due to Galcians betrayal and the plans the Queen Teodora had planned.

Finally however, he has returned to Sailors Island, a major decision awaiting him. Will he return to Valua, to help rebuild his homeland, or will he join a crew of Blue Rogues, helping people across Arcadia? Or, will he act upon the knowledge of a Blue Rogue who is gaining fame, who just happens to call herself "Lady Harlock"?

RP SAMPLE:
Harlock looked around as he stepped off the Maga Sphere, a small Yafutaman merhcant ship. His last contract had him working to fend off Black Pirates who were encroaching into Yafutaman airspace. There sightings were so rare that their King didnt consider it a problem, though Patrols were given more range to try and catch any of them. But, seeing as a few ships were still getting plundered, a few merhcants took it upon themselves to hire security for their ships.

No more Black Pirates for a while thank you he thought to himself as he waved back to the crew. They bowed in respect and offered him good luck in Yafutaman, which he replied in kind. Turning back to look at the gates that lead into the island, he felt almost at home. After a few moments of glancing around, he started making his way into the interior.

As he went, he passed several stalls selling a variety of goods and shouting in several langauages. If he had put enough of his attention to it, he might have been able to translate every shout the merhcants made to passing shoppers. But, since his mind was set on finding the local tavern, they became a mere background noise to him.

He was just nearing the gates when he heard a scream of "Help!". Whirling, he saw a women struggling with a sneaky looking little man. He had his hands on her bag of gold, but she was trying to get it back. Suddenly the thief got the upper hand and shoved her aside, making a break for it.

Raising his hand in front of him, Harlock concentrated for a moment before chanting "Moons! Give me Strength!"

In front of him, the seal of the yellow moon flashed in front of his outstreatched hand and then vanished, only to be replaced by an arc of lightning. It caught the thief square in the side and sent him smashing into a wall, where he went limp. Harlock quickly moved to retrieve the stolen gold and turned to find the lady beaming at him.

"Here you go madam. I believe you lost this." She nodded as he placed it in his hand, and she said 'Thank you so much kind sir!! I dont know what I would have done if he had gotten away."

Harlock took a moment to examine the young lady, discovering she had a pretty face, with sparkling green eyes, and soft looking black hair. But despite the good looks he also noticed that she was dressed poorly, and it tore his heart to see that even in a prosperous place like Sailors Island there was still poverty. He quickly fished out some more gold and handed it to her, saying "Take this. I hope things go better for you."

The young ladys eyes widened when he dropped the gold ontop of her own bag, and she threw her arms around him and began murmuring so many thank yous that he wondered if hed ever be able to here the word again. When she finally calmed down, he bid her goodbye and resumed his path, heading further into the city.

Hey! Welcome to the site. You seem like you've RP before, from the way you write. And you also put a lot of thought into your character, and avoided making a cliche, making an uber character, or making an 'emo.' I commend you good sir. :P

Sorry for not getting around to this. I've been busy with University stuff, and my laptop's hard drive died. (Lots of fun. Pray it never happens to you) I think the rest of the staff have been busy as well. So let me extend my apology to the rest of the staff.

Anyways, like I said. I like the character. You did a good job with him.

There are a few issues. Talked about him with another staff member, and my problems are all with age.

Six is a quite young age to attend military school. Unless by "military school" you're simply referring to a military-sponsored school, instead of one geared towards the military. Assuming that he'd begin in "first grade" aim around 7 or 8.

And then he begins training as an officer at twelve? That's a nearly unprecedentedly young age historically to begin officer training (if you look at the places that really do train officers, not just men who lead soldiers), and certainly so in "modern" nations. For a young age, look at 16+? That'd be a better guess.

How fast he became a captain, again, is a bit short, but I don't think you need to adjust that. Four years should be fine; it's just short, not too short.

Those age changes, and he'll get my Admin vote worth an impressive two votes!

Once again, thanks for coming, and sorry about taking so long to get around to this great character.
