North Ocean - Black Pirate Galley

The Black Pirates of North Ocean have been involved in the slave trade for some time now. The holds of their ships are filled with Ixa'takan slaves bound for human bazaars throughout the area. Here they do business with Valuans in search of household servants and other shady types in need of hearty workers. On occasion these pirates stage deathmatches between the slaves for their own entertainment.

The deck of the pirate ship has been cleared of all obstructions but the three masts, capstan and various stacks of crates, barrels and ropes can be used to your advantage. The ship's crew has gathered on the aft deck to watch the fight from above. From here they place their wagers and jeer the two fighters.

This is the second bout of the opening round. Tatlin is up first to post. The deadline is one week from today (next friday).

The small vessel approached the Black Pirate ship. It loomed ominously, hanging in the grey skies of the North Ocean. Vadik stood limp on the small boat, two men standing around him, affixing his personal armor to his body. One man stood at the wheel of the boat, guiding it through the breezy air. The ominous note had arrived for Vadik the other day, the small bird carrying the message didn’t stand a chance as it slammed full force into the deck of The Insurrection. It had summoned Vadik to this area of the ocean, and he couldn’t resist a challenge.

The small boat docked next to the ship. Vadik jumped out onto the deck. The crowds of pirates were jeering at them. Vadik ignored their stares and cries and examined the battle field. He took note of the barrels and other obstacles then did a bit of stretching. He also performed a few squats to get used to the added weight of his armor. Once he was done, Vadik waved to his crew, who proceeded to move away from the boat. They knew the signal for the end.

Vadik walked over to the corner of the deck, where there was a bit of shade that could obscure him from the sight of whomever his opponent was. At this point it, it was all waiting. Vadik grabbed the tip of his hat and bent it forward. Who would his opponent be?

“Come on, let’s go.”

A guard called for Colaya before opening the door to his cell. He could hear the guard fumbling around with a bunch of keys, then the clank of the lock, and finally a long screech as the door swung open. Colaya had been blindfolded, had his hands bound together, and the Pirates even casted Sylenis to prevent him from using any magic.

“Huh? What’s going-“ Colaya’s question was cut short as the guard grabbed him and began yanking him up from his seat and out of the cell. Colaya stumbled around and tripped over a few raised floorboards, trying to follow the man even though he was still blindfolded. They walked down a long hallway for a minute before the guard stopped Colaya to remove his blindfold. Colaya blinked a few times while his eyes adjusted to the light.

“Yer goin’ to fight…” The pirate answered Colaya’s previous incomplete question. Before Colaya even had time to respond, the man grabbed him by the shirt and threw him out a doorway onto the deck of the ship.

“Ugh…” Colaya groaned as he rose to get up onto his knees. There was a noise that sounded like the clang of metal, and Colaya turned his head to see that the guard threw his spear and knife out after him. He thought that it was some sort of sick joke, considering that his hands were still tied together and he was still Silenced.

“Be careful, this kid is more dangerous than he looks” The guard called out to warn Vadik before letting out a loud cackle and closing the door to below deck.

As the guard left, Colaya frantically looked around the deck, trying to find who the guard was talking to, and finally noticed a man sitting in the opposite corner in the shadows. He then immediately went to grab his weapons and started to cut at the ropes that held his hands together, all while backing up and keeping his eyes on his opponent. Colaya tried even harder to cut the ropes and began to feel frightened and nervous

He knew that it could be his last fight ever.

Round A

Vadik snapped up from his trance. It seemed like he had been fixated on the deck for a long time. The jeers of the pirates still came down upon Vadik, but he cared not. If he was to sharpen his mind, it would be necessary to ignore all distractions. The mind had much to do with battles, as it was necessary for planning and magic. Battles were fought with the body and the mind in harmony.

Suddenly, the door burst open, and a brawny pirate stepped out, holding a man which was no doubt Vadik's opponent. Vadik stepped forward, his right hand instinctively laying upon the hilt of his sword. As the pirate threw him forward onto the deck and cackled, Vadik took in his message of warning. However, he liked to get his own opinions, and thus looked over him for a minute. He first surveyed the look of the man, his red vest particularly standing out to Vadik. And then his eyes went over to the polearm. No doubt the length of this weapon would serve to cause some problems for Vadik. Hopefully he would be able to counter them. His eyes shot back to his opponent and he caught sight of the handcuffs.

"Hmph..." he thought to himself. "The work of pirates. Quite...barbaric. But never the less, it might be good to heed the pirate's warning about this one and take advantage of the situation."

Suddenly, Vadik hopped back into a casting stance and closed his eyes. Numerous thoughts swam through his mind, and he tried to clear them. Finally, he cleared all of his thoughts and concentrated on the battle at hand. His eyes shot open and he looked directly at Colaya.

"DRILN!" he shouted, unleashing a burst of yellow magic in the direction of the struggling combatant.

Vadik pulled out his sword and dashed forward. His feet made a loud clunking noise as the hard boot crashed down upon the dirty wooden deck of the pirate vessel. As he reached Colaya, he stared directly at him in the eyes, and planted his foot as he planned to swing.

"Well, it would seem you're not doing so well!"

Vadik gave a mysterious smile as he slashed with the sword, a large sweeping diagonal swipe aimed directly at Colaya's chest. Vadik stood wide to keep his balance during the swing as he put a lot of his weight into it, grunting as the sword came closer to the struggling prisoner.

Colaya continued to cut at the ropes that held his arms together, but kept his eyes and mid focused on his opponent. Even though he was frightened, the young pirate wasn’t going to go down without some kind of fight, and he certainly wasn’t going to let his enemy know he was scared. Colaya kept a straight face and had a look of determination in his eyes.

“I’ll do whatever it takes for me to get out of here alive…..” Colaya thought to himself for a moment before finishing his own statement. “Even if it means that I have to kill this man…” Colaya was a little shocked at himself for thinking that way. He never really had a reason to kill another person before, but now…

“No... Now is not the time to be worrying about this kind of thing...” Colaya reassured himself. “Besides…... It may not have to come down to THAT…”

He refocused all of his attention on Vadik, just in time to notice that he was casting a spell. Colaya braced himself for the oncoming attack, and for a moment, it seemed like nothing had happened. But then, suddenly, orbs of light began to emanate from his body. Colaya felt the energy leaving his body, and he began to feel tired. He felt as if he had just finished running a long race and his body was worn out.

Colaya slightly bent over to try to catch his breath for a moment. At the sound of loud footsteps, Colaya looked back up to see that Vadik was rapidly approaching. Before Colaya could even respond, Vadik was already upon him.

"Well, it would seem you're not doing so well!" Vadik mocked Colaya’s current condition, just before he swung his sword.

As if by pure luck, Colaya finished cutting through the bindings and the rope snapped, freeing his arms. At the last second, Colaya dove to the side to try to dodge Vadik’s attack, but unfortunately it ran down along his left arm. The sword cut through the sleeve of Colaya’s shirt, and left a long gash in his skin.

Colaya winced at the stinging sensation in his arm as blood started to trickle down to his hands, before dripping off of his fingers down onto the deck. At the sight of blood, the crew that was watching the fight began to start an uproar. They laughed and jeered at the fighters, still wanting even more. Colaya moved his arm around, and it seemed like it was fine for the most part.

Colaya returned his knife into its holster, and stood up with his spear in hand. He then thought of what he should do in such a situation; should he try to attack now… or something else? Colaya quickly came up with a plan. He knew what he should do.

Suddenly, six mirrors materialized and began to spin around Colaya. A mirror began shining brighter than the others, with the color of the Silver moon. “Lunar Mirrors!” Colaya shouted, as he finished his special move. The silver mirror shined even brighter, and then casted Curia on Colaya, removing his Silenced and Weakened statuses.

Colaya felt even more freedom now. It seemed as if a weight not only had been lifted off of his mind, but also off of his shoulder. Colaya knew that he could win.

“This fight is far from over…” Colaya chuckled as he stared Vadik down, before taking a defensive stance with his spear to prepare for the next attack.

Round B

The sword sliced through the air, and Vadik heard the rip in Colaya's shirt, and he felt a speck of blood fly up and hit him on the cheek. Vadik huffed as the sword continued its broad swing and crashed down into the deck, making a short gash mark. He quickly pulled his sword up into a defensive stance, and shot his eyes over to Colaya. He was now readying his spear, and also taking a defensive stance, peering over at Vadik.

"What could he possibly be doing?"
Vadik thought to himself, gazing over every inch of his opponent's body. He would have to be ready for anything, as the long polearm in Colaya's hands made him look much more formidable. Vadik bit his lower lip as Colaya began to make a move.

"Lunar Mirrors!" shouted out his opponent. Suddenly, it had appeared that Colaya had gained back his strength. As Vadik looked into his opponent's blue eyes, he noticed the tired look from the Driln spell had disappeared. Colaya once again had taken a defensive stance. Vadik took one as well, and the two opponents appeared to be at a stalemate.

The jeering roars of the pirates began again, some calling for more blood, some for a completely violent death of either of the combatants. Vadik surveyed the deck, looking for a way to begin his next attack. It was obvious his opponent wasn't about to do anything, so Vadik might as well make the best of this attack. And that was when he saw it.

Vadik dashed forward, heading towards the mast of the ship. He broke out in a full sprint, huffing slightly as he ran directly for a barrel that was situated near the mast. Then he jumped, flew through the air and planted both feet on the barrel. A split second later, Vadik was bursting off the top of the barrel, as it creaked loudly and busted open, spilling water all around. Vadik continued flying through the air, and grabbed tightly to one of the one of the ropes hooked up to the complex rigging of the sails. He swung forward in the direct of his opponent, and then at the end of his swing, he let go. Vadik flung through the air and readied his sword, bringing the sword flying down in the direction of Colaya, yelling a primal scream as he neared him.

Colaya curiously watched as Vadik started to run towards the center of the deck. He remained completely focused on his enemy, trying to figure out exactly what Vadik was trying to do. “Now just what is he planning…” Colaya asked himself, unable to come up with an answer. He knew that if a person could predict their opponent’s next move, then a victory could be guaranteed. Unfortunately, Colaya still couldn’t understand what Vadik was up to, however, that didn’t necessarily mean that Colaya couldn’t win.

Suddenly, Vadik jumped up onto a barrel and grabbed a rope hanging from the mast, putting his plan into action. Vadik then leaped off the barrel and swung through the air hanging onto the rope. The barrel that he jumped from broke apart, sending the water contained inside of it flying onto the deck. The water collected together to form a large puddle near the center of the deck, around the mast.

“Hmm… I better stay away from that…” Colaya thought to himself. He previously noticed that Vadik had a yellow moonstone inside of his sword. “I wouldn’t want to be around that water if an electri spell was going to be cast…”

Colaya refocused his attention back at Vadik who was now swinging, sword drawn, towards Colaya. A counter-plan immediately formed in Colaya’s mind. He ignored Vadik’s screaming and focused his energy into his weapon. Colaya swung his spear through the air, sending a crescent wave of energy flying towards Vadik.

The projectile attack cut through the rope that Vadik was hanging from, cutting it in half and sending him hurdling towards the ground. Colaya moved out of the way of Vadik’s trajectory, also making sure to keep his distance from the puddle. He watched Vadik closely to see what he would do in this current situation and observe how his opponent would react to his attack. Colaya then once again took a defensive stance, to prepare for Vadik's potential attack, and also for his own inevitable counter attack.

Round C

As Vadik hurled through the air towards his opponent, he noticed as Colaya swung his spear and sent a blast of energy toward the rope. He heard the rope slice, but it didn't matter. He had already let go of the rope when Colaya sent his blast. Perhaps he was trying to trick Vadik? Bad reaction time? A missed shot? It didn't matter. Colaya sidestepped out of the way as Vadik hit the ground. He screamed out as the shock rocked his body, but he did a roll and slid into the wall of the ship. Vadik groaned and got up from the ground. Had that tricky devil planned this?

He slowly rose to his feet, feeling the sharp pain shoot up through his back. Perhaps he had lost momentum with his armor? It seemed Colaya had dodged almost everything he threw at him. And Vadik was feeling tired. The burst of speed to pull off that attack left him drained. Thinking quickly, Vadik sliced at the hard leather that held his armor on. The plates clanged loudly to the ground. It was only a light protection, but under hard work it felt heavy. He felt suddenly much lighter and younger than he had before. But Vadik still breathed hard, trying to catch his breath. That last attack had also left him with a shooting pain in his body. Vadik once again readied his sword and stared down his enemy. Perhaps he would pull off another plan...

Vadik suddenly sheathed his sword, and bent down. He picked the two pieces of armor that guarded his shin, and stood straight up. Trying to gather all his might, he began to charge up a spell. Vadik closed his eyes and prayed. Hopefully this could do something. Without warning, Vadik suddenly threw the two pieces of metal armor. One was aimed at Colaya, attempting to push him towards the water accumulated from the broken barrel. Almost as soon as they left his hands, He shouted out.

"ELECTRI!" he yelled out. Suddenly, the hands that once had held the pieces of metal shot out two bolts of yellow electricity, both zapping the pieces of metal. Their speed increased, along with their deadly potential. Hopefully he could push Colaya to the water, where he could get electrocuted. If not, maybe the first piece of armor could hit him and cause a nice enough shock to give Vadik some sort of upper hand in this match.

Vadik jumped back after throwing the metal and casting his spell, once again pulling out his sword. He braced himself and continued breathing heavily. Hopefully he would have enough energy to finish off this battle before his opponent could.

Death Post

The two metals had a deadly effect on Colaya. The first piece smashed directly into Colaya's side, a failed attempt to side step the piece of armor. He screamed out in pain as the electricity jolted his body. He flew sideways and landed into the puddle of water. The next piece of metal struck a second letter. A bloodcurdling scream burst out over the deck. The boisterous crowd of pirates fell silent for a moment. Then, noticing the scorched body of the young man, they started screaming with cheers for Vadik.

Vadik approached him and looked over the body. It twitched once, one final reaction to the electricity. It had all been spent on the poor man. Vadik leaned in and felt Colaya's pulse. There was still a slight pulse, yet very faint. Vadik looked over towards Colaya's head. Despite the violent shocking, it was almost a peaceful look. The eyes opened slowly, and their gaze pierced Vadik.

He shuddered and stared back at Colaya's eyes, feeling slightly guilty. They had been fighting to the death, but that was a painful end to the battle. Colaya tried to mumble out some words but it all slurred together. No doubt his brain had been shot by the potent combination of Electri, Metal, and Water. Vadik couldn't turn back time now. It looked like Colaya would either die, or face a long life of being paralyzed.

Suddenly, pirates started crawling down from the decks. They approached and circled Vadik. They looked down at Colaya, who was nervously shifting (<_<) his eyes back and forth between them. They looked greedily at the young body. The man who had originally brought out Colaya stepped forward.

"Well, we'll just take that off your hands now...We could do with some fresh meat for some..." he grinned sadistically, "Combat practice."

Vadik crinkled his nose at the thought of using the defenseless Colaya as a hunk of meat for these barbarians to smash around. Vadik looked around at them. What would he want done in this situation?

"Honor"
he thought to himself. Two burly men came out and reached for the body, ready to take it away. Colaya made a horrid gurgling noise to express his fear. Vadik quickly drew his sword and lunged forward at Colaya. The blade sailed through the air, and then made contact with his neck.

It was a clean stab wound, only a couple spurts of blood shot out into the air. Vadik quickly sidestepped them and watched as they splattered on the deck, leaving a fresh red mark. He muttered his apologizes to Colaya, who's cold, now dead eyes stared back up at Vadik.

"What a sad way to go," Vadik muttered under his breath. "But better than being with you freaks," he plainly noted. Concentrating quickly, Vadik suddenly threw his hands in the air and shouted out.

"ELECTRES!" he screamed.

A gigantic bolt of lightning shot out of his hands, and it appeared to reach out and pierce the faraway cloud tops. Then, coming from behind one of the clouds was his ship, The Insurrection. From the side of the boat, Vadik's small lifeboat appeared, its crew aiming their weapons at the pirates. Vadik burst out through a small gap in the ring of men and jumped into the lifeboat.

The cannons pumped two times. The shells hurtled through the air and smashed directly on top of the pirate vessel. Many men began to scream and rush around, heading to their battle positions. Another barrage pounded the ship. It was no match for the Insurrection.

The lifeboat chugged slowly onward as the pirate ship began to sink. He looked back wistfully at the ship. He wondered who his opponent was. Vadik quickly shoved these thoughts to the back of his mind. Thoughts like this only made him too weak to kill any opponent. If Colaya had been given the chance, Vadik was sure he would have taken the opportunity and done the same.

Vadik boarded the Insurrection fifteen minutes later. He took one look back at the ship, now far below the clouds, but still burning brightly. Vadik started to think again, but was whisked away by his crew. There were other things to be done, and the Black Fleet could not wait.
