Post when you can, and try to link it in with the above post. So we end up pretty much telling a story, but from different perspectives.

zewerrat stretches in the afternoon light, wondering what to do with himself. After a while of looking down on the town below, he spots an enemy clansman alone in the distance. Struggling to his feet, he realisies he has neither the energy, nor the health to fight anyone and decides to go to the market for food.

The market is full of likeminded warriors, all respecting the code of 'no attacking in the town.' After a short while of waiting, he is finally seen to and buys some apples- hardly a rich man's feast, but his fishing boats are yet to return to their haul.

"Get to work men! I want this trench dug by the end of the afternoon!" A man is seen shouting over an area littered with dozens of rectangular holes dug in the ground. The man sighs, weeks have gone by with hardly any results at all. They had results for sure, quite a lot of information has come out, not what he's seeking though. "Why do you elude me so ohh gea." The man retreated to his tent, standing at the edge of the dug out plain.

Inside the tent he sat down and grabbed one of the books before him. Books worn through the countless times they've been read. "Casted they wereth from worldly realm." He grabbed another. "She is the primal, earth personified. Her temple lyeth at second genesis." The man stood up and looked at the board in front of him. A map of the world.

Edit: how about a convergence of stories? :P

zewerrat, while awaiting his fish, notices this man looking at the map of the world and is intrigued. He did not know such map existed, and also wondered what would be on it.

"Good day to you Sir, may I share your interest in that map?"

The strange man looked at him oddly before going back to work, ignoring the travellers request. This annoyed zewerrat and he considered using voilence towards the man. He dismissed this idea; he had seen the many workers, and doubted it would be wise to attack this man.
Slightly annoyed and disgruntled, he walked off, deciding to speak to this man at a later date and went off towards the Tavern. It was getting late and he did not want to walk home sober.

OoC: You know, standard rules of role playing usually state that you cannot controll others. Ohh, by the way. How the hell did you see me and the map whith me standing in a tent? Also, I am standing at the edge a huge grassy field with a lot of holes dug in the ground.

BiC: Whilst he was inspecting the map once again, hoping that with the passing of time, his wish would realise itsself on the map. Alas not. Once again he was forced to the tiresomn reciting of the lines passing through his mind for the past weeks.

A man appeared next to him. Surprised by how this man got into his tent without him noticing he looked at the man oddly. Then realising he must've been studying the map too deeply he returned his gaze on the map. Suddenly this man asked wether he could look at his map. Finding the invador's request rather rude, he quickly dismissed the man's precense and returning to his map once again. The invador left as quickly as he arived.

"LORD MHUAHAHA! WE'RE DONE DIGGING." Mhuahaha turned away from the map and not before long he noticed the sky had already begun to turn red. "I'm on my way." The man quickly paced out of the tent to the site of his latest estimates. "What have you found?" He asked the man he had appointed supervisor of the dig. "I'm sorry sir, but we've found nothing. We went to your specified depth, but we've found nothing." The man sighed and looked into the neatly dug rectangular trench. The trench was more or less box shaped with a level floor surface. "Hmm, there are no observable features either." He turned to the man he had adressed before. "I'll finish it up, the amnd and yourself can go home." Mhuahaha then went back to the tent to grab a piece of papyrus, made some notes on it and placed the piece of papyrus at the top of a huge pile of pieces of papyrus. "Sire, are you finished?" Mhuahaha turned and saw the dig's supervisor standing before him. "Yes, Singer, I am." Singer grinned. "Then why don't you join the men and me for a drink at the bar?" Mhuahaha smiled. "You know I don't drink. Alright, I'll join you." The men and himself went to the bar.

Reid sat in the bar, passing the time of day over an ale or twenty. High alcohol tolerance level was a great thing - he wasn't even drunk. As he had nothing better to do, he kept drinking, hoping things would go back to how they used to.

There sat Mhuahaha, pondering over his latest failure. Even though his men tried to make him forget, he could not. It was his life's goal. In the corner of his eye he saw something though. Or rather, someone. Someone he knew all to well. He stood up, walked towards this man's table and sat down.

"Surprised seeing you here. I see you're still to your old drinking habits? I still recall serving those needs at my old bar last time we met. How have you been?"

(OOC: But... but I was at the bar.... Ah, never mind :))
IC:
Reid noticed Mhuahaha as he sat down, grinning as he saw him.

"Ah, can't complain. What's an old man to do with nigh-endless life, anyway?"

Reid cast his memory back to that old inn, The Tavern Montage. Though a regular inn on the surface, albeit with an ancient and powerful antimagic barrier surrounding it, it hid a dark secret beneath. Those, however, were tales of another time, an era gone but not forgotten. Things had changed since then, but those adventures were logged in Reid's mind, and doubtless Mhuahaha's too. Some parts were woolly, particularly after the run-in with that dragon. He couldn't remember the end of the story, how they had left those treacherous places and returned to safety. He had lost much in there to protect others. Though he could regain it at will, it would only be by exposing the world to a great and terrible being, something he had sworn to himself never to do. He didn't recall if Mhuahaha, or Mhuy as he liked to call him, had found his memories. "Someday, I should go back to Earth, to see why that one came, to learn why he was unleashed." This thought was spoken aloud, though he hadn't meant to do so. When he realised, he didn't particularly mind. He knew Mhuy would know to what he referred, and would understand why he wished to find out.

Shaking himself out of his reminiscing, Reid turned his attention to the man across the table from him. "So, what are you doing with yourself these days? Not running an inn, by the looks of it."

Mhuahaha laughed at his old friend's words, he indeed knew all to well the story of the sages. For it had been told to him quite a few times by the man sitting before him. For a greater part by his request. He too wished to know what it was that had brought about the chain of events that led their adventure in a previous life. The evil which ran amok inside the bar of old. All he knew now is that he had regained all the memories off his predecessors. Also he knew, be it that the details were vague, that they managed to escape alive, somehow, laying ruin to the entire bar one last time. He also knew that the regaining of his memories led to his current profession.

"I've chosen to become an archaeologist. I was not pleased with the amount of answers I recieved after regaining my former selves memories. I wanted to know how I came to be. How we all came to be. Seeing as the bar, of which all I knew was that it was my purpose to protect it, has been vanquished...I needed a new goal. For this goal I am in Karmina once again. Or rather on it's plains lying to the east. I seek the source."

He paused for a second.

"Gea."

OoC: I just made up an excuse why the bar was gone. Seeing as I lead the story in a way.

Gea is the modern Greek pronounciation of Gaia. Let us see what you make of that.

OOC: You led the original story when it took on a more real RP edge, so why not? :D And ooooh, Gaia, Greek goddess of the earth! Me likey.
IC:
Reid grinned upon hearing of his friend's new trade.

"Ah, digging up bones and dirt. Such a difference to pulling pints. Talking of which, might I buy you one? Conjuring up gold pieces I can, at least, still do. Now, tell me, what have you found out so far? Perhaps I can fill in some gaps, or solidify some shaky pillars. Or even knock some down. After all, I don't know how much you know. But living through it helps. The events in the not-really-a-bar are the first I can't recall with crystal accuracy."

He indicated to the barmaid to come over.

Mhuahaha smiles at his old friend, he knew mentioning his latest trade would spur his curiotisty. When the waitress arived he ordered some milk. He waited untill she was out of earshot.

"Well, I had remembered that Uno, my first former selve, was given the job to guard the sacred ground of the bar. This job he was given by trapped Ares himself. I was to await the one whom would take us back to our rightfull place on Earth."

Mhuahaha smiled at the barmaid when she arrived with his milk and then took a sip. Goatsmilk it was. He preferred the milk of cows, but it would do the job of carrying his throat through the comming story he reckoned. The Barmaid left again.

"Well, there's a problem with the only history known to us. As you well know, we were banned here by Zeus' authority. We were men of Ares and lost his war. Thus we were banished to Alter-Earth. That we know. Or rather, we think that is so. However, it didn't sit well with me. I had heared some of the ancient stories...well...Uno was told by his grandfather.

There are records of old in karmina's library, as you well know. Within lies boundless information to those who poses the intelligence to seek it out. So I thought anyway. Thus I went to the library, seeking out accounts of the days before, during and after our banishment here.

There are few accounts left of the days of our banishment and the first years after. Soldiers aren't the most litterate of all. Not much was written down in those days, fewer survived the test of time. Knowledge is spread thin. There were quite a few accounts of before the war however. Zues did not just warp the army to this place, a couple of cities as well. Within those cities lied libraries. The books were one of the few things salvageable from the rubble which were the cities after they were warped here. They were clay tablets you see. Not the fickle papyrus we write on nowadays. Papyrus decays in our climate. Those clay tablets were made of the finest clay, though that did not stop them from shattering, they could thus forth be mended again.

From copies of those old accounts I managed to decipher old myths. Amongst them, the myth of creation. How Gea became the earth. This was the same myth Uno was told. The myth of earths creation. This is my problem. I now knew what was earth has a being. This being was Gea. This must surely mean that Alter-Earth, has a simillar state of be. I could not find any accounts of such a being in our fine library. Thus my path was clear, I was to travel to the capital of our knowledge, Dionysus.

When I got there, I decided to enlist myself in its university. I started to study archaeology. Living through a nice part of it helped for sure. I soon became a professor and an intimate of quite a few of histories scribes. None knew anything about Gae, as I had lovingly started to call the godess I searched for. Thus I searched its vast collections myself. I reread the original clay tablets of which I had only read the copies. I found nothing.

My story has catched up to a year ago now. Five years after I had started teaching, seven after we parted, I was still no closer to my goals. But then the most wonderfull thing happened. A local Karminan farmer dug a well and stumbled upon a clay tablet and some pieces of pottery. He gave it to a local amature seeker of history, a person I had once met. This person immediately sent me a copy of this tablets markings. There I had finally my lead. On that badly done copy I read that the tablet held storage information. Information about resources held storaged for a temple. The script was simmilar to the linear B script which our ancestors on Earth used. It was the smae script used by our first king who had lived on Earth itsself. I Immediatly summoned this historian and his tablet. After a few days I got to read the real thing. And there the information I needed was written, it was a temple to a godess of Alter-Earth. Not more was written, but it was all I needed. I quickly assembled a team and we've started digging half a gyear ago.

Sadly we found nothing so far. Well, that's not entirely true. We found lots of remains of the ancient city of Karmina. The entire city of karmina is a huge Tell or Ward as we call it in the trade. A tell is a hill build which is created by the constently rebuilding of buildings on the remains of older buildings. A ward is a hill artificially created by humans to battle floods usually in a tidal flat environment. Karmina is a bit of both. This land has always been flooded by the river Carmen. Thus at first old Karminans raised this city to battle its periodic floods. In later years, the river was dammed and now we have no need of artificially raising our lands. From those days onwards, we raised it unintentionally by building on old remains. We thus found beautifull remains of houses, official buildings and the oldest remains of the Karminan city center so far. But no clear signs of my temple yet. I have the entire stratigraphy mapped, I know how deep I must dig to reach the oldest layer of Karmina. My men have dug out almost all of old Karmina as well. Still no sign of her."

Mhuahaha sighed and drunk his milk. His throat was dry from all the talking he had done. He placed his cup down again and looked at his old friend inquisitively

Reid listened, pondering over his friend's words.

"Temple of the Alter-Gea... To be honest, I quite like Gae as a name for her. I wonder..."

He fished in his pocket, and pulled out a stone with a glowing turquoise symbol engraved in it.

"I'm not going to ask if you know what this is, seeing as it's a creation of my own. You know as well as I do that my current state of power, though still fairly powerful by most standards, is less than a shadow of what it was. Some spells I used to use, particularly the one I mentioned was a gift from the first gods, require immense levels of mana. Time was when I could cast them with ease. Now, I could not cast them without unleashing him. So I decided to put excess mana to use. Few know the ways mana flows through beings, so I'll give you a brief summary. Every being has a capacity for mana. Most have a very small capacity, but there are some with greater. They are the wizards, the warlocks, the magical users of the worlds. Mana itself is infinite and everywhere. As such, when one casts a spell, though it drains one's own personal, internal mana supply, the mana of infinity replaces it, by flowing in to the caster. The more attuned they are to its flow, and the less of their own store they have, the faster it replenishes itself. Now, as I'm always channelling a binding spell, there comes a point where I'm using it as fast as it replenishes. This is my current limit, if you will. However, I can use all of that mana, and have it restore over time. These stones, or runes as I call them, are stores of my mana. When I reach my current limit of mana, I channel around half of it into one of these. As such, when I want to cast a more powerful spell, I can unleash the mana in these rather than using my own supply."

He paused, and took a gulp of ale.

"Now, to scry the city to find the temple would have been simple for me to do. As it stands, it would be impossible. However, if I use a couple of these runes, I could find your shrine for you. Sound good?"

He smiled across the table at his companion.

"I have a few dozen of them at present, anyway."

Mhuahaha pondered at his friends offer. "well, part of the fun is locating it myself. I am getting rather annoyed from this tiresome searching though. Alright, I will take you up on your offer. Let's search for that temple. But let us search for it tomorrow. It is getting rather late. My men will have the day off tomorrow as well. That is on account of the harvesting festival tomorrow. An added bonus of that is that most people will no doubt be at the festival, they probably wont be in our way tomorrow."

Mhuahaha fumbled in his pockets as well and took out a small map of Karmina. He laid it down on the table before them and pointed on it. "This is the place where we are digging. My tent is at the edge of the plain, overlooking the site. You can't miss it, we've created a small hill with the soil from one of the pits we excavated and placed my tent on top of that. Thanks for the drink and the help, I very much appreciate it."

He folded the map in front of them and put it back in his pocket. "Well, I'm off to bed. I will make all the necessary arrangements." Mhuahaha stood up, waved his friend goodbye and left.

Reid glanced at the map as a gesture. He had spent so long in Karmina he knew it like the back of his hand, even the buried old remains. He rose as his friend made to leave.

"I'll see you tomorrow."

He placed a hand on the table, and when he removed it a second later, several gold pieces lay there.

He called over to the barstaff, "Keep the change", before leaving the bar, heading for his lodging.

Mhuahaha woke up early in the morning to a yellowish glow. He always slept in his tent when he was on a dig. He could keep a better eye out for the excavation site that way. Digs are always prone to thieving. People trying to fetch a quick bug on the black market by selling ancient artefacts. Collecters pay a heafty price for an old sword, axe or pretty much anything made from a precious metal. Where else to find these things than from an excavation? Sadly though, besides removing artefacts which could give more clues into the lifes of old, the digging done for these artefacts tends to ruin a lot of hard labour done as well.

Last night was a peacefull one though, which struck him as odd. Today is a day of festivities. The marketplace is filled with merchants trying to fetch a buck or two. The black market always thrives during these days, yet there were no thieves trying to take a shot at replenishing their stocks one last time for this day. Oh well, it doesn't matter, he had a good night rest because of it. It wouldn't have mattered much if they did anyway, they were nearly done with the excavation anyway.

Mhuahaha got up out of his bed, got dressed and looked at the map of Alter-Earth, as had become sort of a morning ritual for the past six months. "Today is the day I find you." He grabbed a loaf of bread and his violin and walked outside, being greeted warmly by mornings sun. He sat down on a chair standing outside, ate the loaf of bread and started playing and singing. He had already packed last night, all he had to do now was wait.

"The seasons of travellers often occupy the present with the past. The songs from those days echo even now."

OoC: If anybody wants to join in on our fun, I suggest you do it now, or else we'll be exploring a whole temple without you.

IC:
As Mhuahaha sang, he heard a tone from behind him sing a harmony. Reid was sitting on a rock a few yards behind, singing with him. He stopped and smiled when Mhuahaha turned around.

"Morning. Ready to find a temple, then?"

OoC: Yes indeed, let's enjoy this one.

BiC: Mhuahaha smiled, stood up and walked towards his friend. "Welcome to my dig! I'm all ready to go, I already packed as well." He walked inside the tent and a few moment later walked out with a huge bag and dropped it on the ground before them. Some dust flew up from the impact, got caught by the wind and blew away.

"I do not want to be caught unaware by any circumstance. Thus I brought a shovel, pickaxe, axe, hammer, a few iron stakes, a trowel and a brush for digging. I packed my notebook, quite a few papyrus sheets, a couple of pieces of charcoal, a couple of pencils and a measuring tape for noting down whatever we may find.

Most of the knowledge I took in by head and heart, but I as well brought my notebook just in case I forgot certain details. Now, as for fighting, I always carry my sword at my side and I am wearing my armour now. However, I also packed a bow and arrows. I packed some items just in case we get hurt, now I know you can heal us, but you never know.

I packed a nice amount of food and water and last but not least, I'm bringing my violin as well. Just for fun, but you never know. In case you were thinking that the bag still looks a bit heavy, that might be so, because the gods have a sense of humor, so I packed a few spares of certain items just in case."

Mhuahaha laughed. "It is a bit heavy, but I'll manage."

Reid grinned.

"Lessons learnt from times past, eh? Well, I prefer my little satchel that's not actually that little."

He opened it, and showed the insides to Mhuahaha, revealing a gigantic barren plain littered with odds and ends, including an enormous pile of stones. Smiling, he closed it again, and swung it back onto his shoulder.

"Bag of Holding. A transport to another plane, and very useful for holding stuff in. Weighs just as much as the bag, no matter how much I put in. Those stones are a pile of the runes I showed you. Talking of which, let's get this scrying done."

He pulled three runes from his pocket, holding them in his right hand. Closing his eyes, he inhaled deeply, before shattering the stones to dust in his hand. He relaxed, opening his eyes, and grinned at his friend.

"Not as hard as it looks, really. I'm just forcing the mana into myself. Now, time to scry."

A green glow enveloped his right hand, and he thrust it to the ground. The glowing portion went in as though the ground were water, but the rest remained as normal. A moment later, he straightened, his hand returning to his side no longer green.

"You've been digging pretty well. The temple is right under our feet, and judging by how deep your pit is, it's only one level deeper. Shall we?"

He indicated the track leading into the pit, and made towards it, flashing Mhuahaha a grin.

Mhuahaha smiled to his companions remark and then looked into the bag. He indeed saw quite a few odds and ends, including a nice amount of spirits. "Hmm, Tuck's Titan potion 1337. Fine year." he thought.

Mhuahaha took a few steps backwards to give Reid some room to perform his magic. He cast over the scene an eye filled with curiousity. His friends magical capabillities were always interesting to watch. He could never quite predict what was about to come.

Then Reid's hand turned green and he thrusted it into the ground. Mhuahaha could almost smell victory. His years of searching finally payed off. Then Reid was done. The temple lay beneath their feet? One level below the current pit even? Hmm, how could this be? Mhuahaha had checked the stratigraphic data over and over again. The temple should be at the level of the current pit.

Mhuahaha jumped into the pit and walked to it's wall. He looked at the profile of the wall. He grabbed his shovel and shaved off a part of the surface off the square wall, which had dried out, to make the individual layers more visible. "Hmm, I can clearly see the chronostratigraphic sequence of this part of Karmina." He pointed at a layer of very dark, near black dirt. "This is what is known in the trade as an O horizont or soil. Now, soils form over a long period of time and can not be formed when either erosion or sedimentation takes place. Thus we must conclude that the river Carmen wasn't reaching this area with it's floods. Also, what I know off the other pits we've dug so far, is that no occupation took place before or during this time. Only after the river Carmen was already influencing this area with its floods did we arive here. So, logic would dicate that the temple would stand above this layer as well. This doesn't make any sense."

Reid chuckled.

"Ah, you and your science. A little history makes it much clearer - her temple was never above ground. It was dug deep into the earth, further down than many buildings are high. If I remember correctly, and I'm certain I do, there was another temple built atop hers in later years, though it was still early in the days of Karmina. The year 42 or so. It was a temple to Ares - His priests didn't like the idea of worship to any other god at the time. However, as I helped them design it - there were few scholars there at the time, and I was already an ancient, so I knew enough about architecture - I know of a way that leads to the old temple. I ensured it was installed, in fact. If we make our way to where we were standing on this layer, we'll find the door in. I placed a seal on it at the time, so it will be intact. The entrance, and the chamber it was contained in, anyway. So, if we remove this bit of wall here..."

Reid waved a finger in the air, tracing out a block of the wall. Where he indicated, a red trail of light remained.

"For about twenty yards back, we'll be there."
