KNIGHTS OF THE NEW ORDER
PART 1

Introduction

A long time ago in the Age of the Forgotten, the land of Uragar was on the brink of a war that would reshape the entire world forever. A powerful but evil warrior, INSK, attacked the kingdom. He appeared to be unstoppable. Driven by hate and greed, and also with the help of magic, INSK easily conquered the king’s army, and through the magic words of the ancient language, forced the soldiers to serve him until the day they die. Giving their oaths of loyalty in the words of the mysterious ancient language eternally binds them to his service.

And so INSK’s reign of tyranny began. He stole the peasants’ gold through taxes, demanded their crops, and worked them like slaves. Through his magic, INSK never aged a day. Two hundred years pass and the borders of the empire created by INSK are endless. Rebellions have come and gone…all have failed. It seemed as if he would rule forever.

Timberfall was a peaceful little town hidden in the mountains. Miraculously they have managed to remain free of INSK’s rule. They have for three hundred years successfully hidden from the rest of the outside world. However, with every passing day, INSK’s scouts drew closer. It was only a matter of time before they were discovered. INSK would not stop until every town, town, and city was under his control. There are rebel forces opposing INSK and trying to restore Uragar to its former glory, but their only hope of victory rests on the shoulders of a small group of warriors living in Timberfall.

Chapter 1

It was little past noon. Jrich and TeraHammer were sparring in the meadow. Jrich was a tremendously skilled fighter, but he was no match for the cleverness of TeraHammer.

“Now you’ve fallen into my trap!” shouted TeraHammer. With a quick feint, and a swing of his blade, TeraHammer owned Jrich. “Better luck next time.”

“That’s not fair! You cheated!” complained Jrich.

“You can’t win battles with sheer strength. You have to use your head or you won’t last 10 seconds in a fight.” TeraHammer chuckled, “You should have seen your face when my sword was flying down on you. I could have sworn you wet your pants.”

“Shut up.” Jrich replied.

Both TeraHammer and Jrich were picking up their equipment when they heard the town bell. They only rang the bell when there was an emergency. Startled and confused, Jrich and TeraHammer hurried to the town center. Their town leader, Mhuahaha, was about ready to announce what the problem was. Jrich and TeraHammer pushed through the crowd of villagers to get a better view. Suddenly someone grabbed Jrich’s arm, and out instinct, Jrich drew his dagger ready to strike.

“Wait. Stop. It’s just me, Zink.” said the frightened man.

“Zink! What the hell do you think you’re doing? Don’t sneak up on someone like that. You’re lucky I didn’t hurt you.”

“I’m sorry Jrich. I was just wondering if you knew what was going on with the bell.”

“I haven’t a clue. Mhuahaha is about to tell us.”

Mhuahaha began his announcement. “Citizens of Timberfall, in these troubled times we have remained free of INSK’s influence. We have kept to ourselves and not helped the rebel movement. However, this peace cannot last forever. As we speak, INSK’s scouts drive deeper into the mountains, thoroughly scanning every mountain peak and every valley in search of our beloved Timberfall, the last free town resisting INSK. Now we must make a decision. We have to either surrender our village to INSK or we can join the rebels. It is only a matter of time before we are discovered by the scouts so we must act fast.”

“I need some free beer *hiccup*” screamed the town drunk.

“I say we join the rebels to defend our homes! We can’t let our land be ravished by an evil king! We bow to no one!” shouted an angry voice in the crowd. Jrich noticed the voice and realized it was ReidE96, the town’s fierce military general. Jrich has been good friends with him for quite some time.

A few months ago when they first heard about the Imperial Scouts entering the mountains, a group of them started an elite defense group, Protectors of Timberfall. The group consisted of TeraHammer the Wise, ReidE96 the Brave, Zink the Fierce, Jrich the Punisher, and Murderus the Slayer. Never before has the world seen such a powerful band of warriors fight for one cause, but it will take everything these young men posses to stop the evil oppressive tyrant.

Chapter 2

Much of the next morning was spent preparing the villagers for war. Women and children loaded wagons with food and supplies in case they were forced to flee the town. The men were equipped with weapons in the early morning, and trained and drilled with them until early evening. The Protectors of Timberfall oversaw the military training. They had only a matter of days to train a small army to fend off the scouts. The scouts could be vanquished very easily, but then they would have to worry about a direct attack from INSK’s army. A bulk of his troops was stationed across the empire fighting the rebel forces to the east, but Timberfall would still be greatly outnumbered by the forces remaining in west.

ReidE96, Zink, and Murderus were enjoying their late lunch when they were interrupted by the messenger boy, who carried news of the war preparation. Since Timberfall was a peaceful town, its army was relatively small. Timberfall’s army consisted of about 150 swordsmen and about 50 archers.

ReidE96 took the letter from the boy and immediately opened it. “Oh crap.” ReidE96 said. “The army is indeed large enough to stop the scouts, but when the king’s army arrives, we stand no chance.”

“There must be something we can do. “ stated Zink. “There has to be some villagers of Grandheim still free of INSK’s grasp. Perhaps we could send a messenger to their city to try and bring them to our aid?”

Murderus replies, “It’s risky. They could get discovered and executed. However, we have no choice. We need to arm as many men as we can get. But what madman would dare venture into enemy territory with a slim chance of ever returning alive?”

Suddenly, just as if an angel answered their prayers, a confident deep voice rang out saying “I’ll do it. I fear neither death nor evil.”

The three Protectors turned around and to their astonishment saw a small, but fierce looking man standing right at the door. “And who exactly are you?” asked Zink.

“I am Jaymcee. I come from the recently destroyed city of Trindleton. I know I am small, but I have more heart than man ten times the size of a giant. Please let me serve your town honorably and bravely.” insisted the stout man.

ReidE96 eyed the man curiously. He had to be insane or just plain stupid. Even the mightiest warriors would cower at the thought of a suicidal mission. “Okay.” answered ReidE96. “Only because you are our only hope. You are strange man, Jaymcee. May ask you why you are determined to embark on what could end up being a suicidal mission?”

“INSK has destroyed my family, my friends, and my home. After many weeks of sorrow and grief, I have vowed to not let INSK damage another family or friend again. Thus I am here, looking to help.”

“That is very noble of you.” ReidE96 said with admiration. “My servant will take you into the house and fetch you food and some fresh clothes. You will depart in the morning. Good luck and God speed.” Without another second passing, Jaymcee grabbed his things and headed into the house.

“One small problem down, one GIANT one to go.” sighed Zink. They all finished their meal and headed back to work.

Chapter 3

The following morning Jaymcee gathered up his sword and armor, as well as some food and supplies for the journey, and stepped out onto the front porch. He gazed up at the bright morning sun. He was blessed with a warm and sunny day. A cool breeze blew pleasantly across his face. “Let’s hope this nice weather keeps up.” he said.

Just as Jaymcee was about to leave, he heard footsteps coming behind him. "Jaymcee.” called ReidE96. “You can’t leave yet. We have a surprise for you.”

At that moment, Jaymcee laid his eyes upon the most wonderful thing he’s ever seen. A mysterious beautiful woman appeared out of the doorway, dressed in light armor that sparkled as the sunrays reflected off it. Her beauty was unmatched in all the land. Jaymcee was stuck in a daze over the woman.

Struggling to regain his composure, Jaymcee turned towards ReidE96 stunned and asked, “Who is this and what is she do−?”

The woman interrupted, “I am Spadicus of Windfall. Do not let my looks deceive you. I am as fierce as any man that walks this planet, and I will be accompanying you on your mission.”

Jaymcee showed a small look of disgust on his face. “ReidE96, you can’t be serious. She is but a woman. She would only slow me down. I cannot allow her to go with me.”

ReidE96 somehow knew Jaymcee would refuse to accept her. “She WILL accompany you. She has fought many battles for her home city. She has proven herself in combat by defeating the mighty Dreona in battle. If anything, you will be the one slowing her down. If you continue to refuse my order, you will be given 50 lashes and removed from my army.”

“Very well. As you wish.” was Jaymcee’s response. Jaymcee and Spadicus then began their long journey towards Grandheim.

*******************************************************************************************************************

About an hour after they departed, Timberfall’s battle horn sounded. The villagers scrambled through the streets heading to their homes and to hide in their cellars. The Protectors of Timberfall and the militia they were training all rushed to the town’s gate. All the Protectors were nervous, for the militia was not yet prepared to take on a disciplined army.

Jrich shouted to the man blowing the horn. “I demand to know the meaning of this! The scouts couldn’t possibly reach us this fast!”

The man told Jrich and the others, “I do not know how they discovered us so quickly. A messenger from our eastern outpost came with news that a large group on horseback was headed this way.”

TeraHammer noticed a young man in the formation of poorly trained villagers shaking very rapidly. Another man was standing there as stiff as a board. TeraHammer could tell they were nervous and scared. However, some of the better trained military officers were standing ready, weapon in hand, awaiting the action that would unfold.

“Here they come!” yelled one of the town guards.

By this time everyone in Timberfall could hear the sound of the thundering horses coming towards them. When the invaders reached about 150 yards from the gate, a powerful voice rang out from one of the horsemen.

“We are the Riders of Agmand. We have come here offering what little soldiers we have to help aid in the fight against INSK. Please accept our offer, as neither of us can do it alone.”

Murderus and Zink rode out to the man. Zink was the first to speak. “How can we believe what you say? For all we know you could be Imperial spies trying to tear our town apart from the inside. I ought to just gut you like a fish.”

“Zink, that’s enough.” Murderus glanced at Zink disappointedly. He then looked at the intriguing man on horseback. “Sir, I do not know who are. I do not care. We are in dire need of reinforcements so we will take any help we can get.”

The man looked relieved after Murderus spoke. “Thank you,” he said. “I am General Blackwinds. Our great city was captured by INSK’s army months ago. We have spent the past weeks wandering these mountains in search of the rumored Timberfall, hoping to start a new home and help defend it.”

Holding back his joy, Murderus asked, “So how long until the rest of your army arrives?”

Blackwinds sadly says, “This is all that remains.”

Murderus and Zink, thrilled at the news of more soldiers, were at the same time saddened. It still wasn’t even. They galloped back to the gate where ReidE96 and the others stood waiting. Timberfall was given the news of their new allies. Some villagers were full of happiness and rejoiced. Others frowned at the fact they were still severely outnumbered. They still had a rough road ahead of them.

Chapter 4

Several days passed, and there was still no sign of the approaching scouts. Many of the villagers had thought maybe the scouts went by them and didn’t find Timberfall. TeraHammer and the others knew that the scouts were still out there, waiting, and could attack at any moment. The militia still hasn’t been fully trained, simply because there wasn’t enough time.

Jrich heard the loud thud of drums. He, along with Zink, rushed to the guard tower and looked out beyond the morning sunrise. He could see the faint outline of hundreds of soldiers.

“What the ---.” Zink said as he saw INSK’s Imperial flag come into view. “I thought it was supposed to be a small scouting party. And where the blazes is the warning from our sentries?”

“You there,” Jrich said to one of his captains, “Rally the men, equip them for battle, and bring them to the gate. Zink, ready the archers. Guard! Blow the war horn!”

By the time the orders had been given and the men assembled, the enemy was nearing the gates. Blackwinds rode over to ReidE96. “Where do you need my men?” he asked.

“Your people will wait until I give the order, then they will charge alongside us and our infantry.” replied ReidE96. “Archers, ready your bows! Fire!” A volley of arrows descended upon the enemy. They took heavy casualties at the start but there was still so many of them. They were now 50 yards from the gate.

Jrich was riding up and down the ranks of soldiers. “I know some of you are scared. I know some of you are tired. And I know some of you wish you weren’t here. But today we must fight, not as individuals, but as one. Some of you may be eager for glory. This is to defend our homes, our family, and our freedom! We are citizens of Timberfall, last of the free cities, and we bow to no king! Together, we will make history! Charge!”

The citizens and the Protectors of Timberfall clashed with the oncoming soldiers. TeraHammer, ReidE96, Jrich, Zink, and Murderus led the way, obliterating enemy after enemy. They looked like gods on the battlefield. Despite the glorious effort of the Protectors, the weak undisciplined militia began to crumble. They began to retreat to the walls. Luckily for Timberfall, Blackwinds and his skilled horsemen held strong, not budging an inch, but they could not gain any ground either. No matter how many enemy soldiers were slain, there was always another to take their place.

ReidE96 called to Blackwinds, “Take some of your men and try to attack the flank. That’s our only hope of victory.”

Blackwinds pulled back, but instead of withdrawing his troops, he kept them there. The line would collapse if he brought them with him. Instead he rode back to walls and gathered up the villagers. “I know I am not a citizen of Timberfall, but I am here to protect it. If you want to keep your homes, you need to follow me.”

The militia blindly followed Blackwinds and they were able to make it behind the enemy. “Good,” he said, “We made it behind them. Charge!”
Surprised and confused, the enemy easily fell. None escaped alive, and all were executed.

Murderus was examining the dead. Timberfall only lost about 16 soldiers. ReidE96’s army of 200, along with Blackwinds’ army of 300 and about 150 villagers, defeated the larger army of about 1,200.

There was a large sense of pride that swept over the city. They have accomplished the unthinkable. It’s a small victory, but they need morale. They still have many more impossible tasks to come.

Chapter 5

ReidE96 and TeraHammer knew they couldn’t prevent the inevitable. Sooner or later, one of INSK’s generals would lead his army right to Timberfall. Then, of course, Timberfall would stand no chance. Immediately following the battle, they rushed to Mhuahaha’s office. Mhuahaha stared blankly at the battle-worn warriors bolted through his door. He politely asks, “Well hello there. What can I do for the Protectors today?”

Not wasting any time, TeraHammer says, “We must evacuate the city. It will not be safe to stay here once INSK sends his massive army. They will overcome us in a matter of minutes.”

“Ah yes. I know your title is TeraHammer the Wise, but you better just leave the decisions of the town to me. We will be perfectly fine here. Evacuating our homes and our land would be preposterous. It would be too costly in both resources and lives.” stated Mhuahaha.

“It will be even more costly to remain here!” TeraHammer shouted, getting a little upset with Mhuahaha’s blindness. “The army will slaughter everyone. They will pillage the land and steal our wives. You can’t let this happen.”

“The will never successfully pass our walls. Now get out of my sight before I call the guards. I have work to do. I won’t be able to leave this building for days.”

ReidE96 and TeraHammer step outside. TeraHammer shouts at ReidE96, “I can’t believe you! Why didn’t you back me up in there? You know if they stay here everyone is going to die!”

ReidE96 responds, “That is why they aren’t going to stay here.”

“What do you mean? Have you gone mad? You heard it yourself; Mhuahaha doesn’t plan on leaving the city. He wants to make a stand.” asked TeraHammer, still puzzled.

“He can stay. We will leave. He said he has so much work that he can’t leave for days. During those few days, we should round up as many of us as we can and leave. We can start heading east, towards the rebels, and hopefully meet up with them. I don’t like the thought of abandoning the city anymore than Mhuahaha, but it has to be done. We can live to fight another day.”

TeraHammer looked around the city and then back at ReidE96. “You’re right. Let’s get the others.”

TeraHammer and ReidE96 went and told the other Protectors of their plan. They then split up. Half of them started gathering supplies while the other half alerted the rest of the town.

*******************************************************************************************************************

Jaymcee and Spadicus were only together about a day, and already they were on each other’s nerves. Jaymcee had problems working with a woman and Spadicus had problems with Jaymcee’s arrogance towards women. “Women need to just stay home and take care of the house.” he said. “You should just run along back to Timberfall and help cradle the baby.”

Spadicus was very offended by his comment. “You are a little conceited for man who’s smaller than half the little girls frolicking through the flowers. Why don’t you go join them?”

An angry snarl appeared on Jaymcee’s face. He says, “I’m going to make you regret that you laundry lover!”

Jaymcee’s charged at Spadicus with all his speed. Just as he got to her he raised his armed and took a swing at her with full force. His anger clouded his mind and he realized just as Spadicus jumped out of the way, and with a swift blow to the back of the head, she knocked him flat on the ground. “Is that all you got?” she taunted.

Getting up off the ground, Jaymcee stood and thought for a second. He knew had to keep his mind clear. He charged at her again, same way as before. This time, however, he ducked and rolled as she tried to counter, and almost instinctively, brought his fist straight up. He sent Spadicus rolling across the ground with an unexpected uppercut. Finally realizing what he’s done, he ran to her.

“Spadicus!” he yelled, “I’m so sorry. Are you alright?”

“Yes of course I’m fine. You hit like a girl.” She chuckled. It seems the feud between them had come to an end. They would have to count on each other more than ever if they wished to succeed.

Chapter 6

Stuck in his office busy with all his work, Mhuahaha was completely unaware of the villagers scrambling about the town, preparing to flee towards to the east. He kept on vigorously with his work until he heard a loud knock on his door. “Go away I’m busy.”

“Mayor Mhuahaha, it’s urgent.”

“Very well. Come in.”

The young man threw open the door and marched in. “It’s the Protectors and the town,” he said. “Everyone is leaving.”

A cloud of anger flooded Mhuahaha’s mind. They knowingly defied his order. He ran out of the room and burst in to the streets. When he finally found TeraHammer and ReidE96, they were busy helping the villagers load up the wagons. “TeraHammer! You have betrayed me! Why?”

“Your judgment is tainted. Stay here would mean certain massacre for everyone.”

Mhuahaha retorted, “Leaving would destroy everything we stand for. We would lose our homes, our businesses, and our pride. We have never cowered before.”

“We stay here, Mhuahaha, and we would lose our lives. If you say we are not cowards, then why do we hide in the mountains? We must fight for our lives, but not here, not at this time. We need to concentrate on helping the rebels. It’s our best chance of survival. You must be a spy! I, TeraHammer the Wise of Timberfall, challenge you to a duel for the rights of mayor. ”

“No! Nobody is leaving! I am your leader and you will listen to me!”

“Well then perhaps I will need to persuade you.” TeraHammer drew his sword and charged at Mhuahaha. All villagers of Timberfall were taught to anticipate an opponent’s move. He could see TeraHammer’s attack coming, and easily dodged the incoming steel.

“TH, wait. This is madness. We can settle it peacefully.” Mhuahaha cried out in fear.

“I’ve already tried” said TeraHammer. “You are too naïve to understand. We must leave Timberfall, and we will.” TeraHammer lunged once more at Mhuahaha. Mhuahaha closed his eyes and said a silent prayer. There was suddenly a loud clang of metal. Mhuahaha opened his eyes. Jrich had deflected TeraHammer’s sword with his own.

Jrich intervened. “TeraHammer. That is enough. I am beginning to think you are the one who is corrupted. This does not call for violence, as Mhuahaha is no enemy of ours.”

“He must be stopped. He is a spy and a traitor to us all. I can smell it on him. He’s dripping with sweat.”

“That’s because you nearly killed him!” shouted Jrich

“And I will” Without another second going by, TeraHammer pulled out a hidden dagger and threw it at Mhuahaha. It sped through the air faster than Jrich or Mhuahaha could react, and without any trouble, nailed itself right into Mhuahaha’s heart. He slowly toppled over, smiled up at Jrich, and could breathe no more.
A tear formed on Jrich’s eye as knelt down. Mhuahaha had been a good friend of his. Jrich would have proudly defended him against INSK’s entire army. Jrich didn’t even have to say anything to TeraHammer. “What have I done?” cried TeraHammer. “Oh dear God, please forgive me. Mhuahaha, I am sorry.”

The villagers, one by one, crowded around the body. A mutual sense of sorrow filled the villagers’ hearts. Mhuahaha had been a kind and caring leader, and yet he got robbed of many years of life. Most of the villagers didn’t blame TeraHammer for Mhuahaha’s death, but some became suspicious of his intensions. Regardless of what they thought, everyone proceeded with the plan to leave Timberfall. They were now about ready to depart. Everyone would have to stick together if they wished to survive the perilous journey. They would still have to cross the heart of the empire to reach the rebels. Then, the hardest challenge of fighting INSK and his army. They might as well be fighting a god.

Chapter 7

By the time the sun was creeping over the horizon, the town had been long abandoned. The villagers had left sometime during the late night. They were traversing the mountains, but Timberfall was still in sight. Jrich and the other Protectors were leading the way and making sure everyone was moving steadily. All that day, the villagers pushed on, using the fury of having to leave their homeland, along with the will to see a better future. Night came quickly. They continued on about another half hour until it became impossible to venture any further into the night. The Protectors finally decided to set up camp.

ReidE96 had positioned sentries to keep watch for intruders during the night while the rest of the army helped the villagers settle in for the night. Zink had found himself already out cold, crouched up against a sturdy log.

*************************************************************************************

There was a loud scream. The sun was just rising when a sentry came running to the Protectors. “General Reid, the enemy is near our camp. They killed my partner. I barely managed to escape. They are coming this way.”

Reid looked sleepy and confused. “I don’t see how in hell they could find us! Quickly! Wake the men and do it with haste!”

The sentry ran through the camp shouting “The enemy is nearly here! Gather your weapons and prepare to fight!”

Everyone was ready within 20 minutes. Reid organized them into several small groups and scattered them, intending to ambush the enemy. About an hour passed and still no sign of movement. Reid and the others jumped out of their hiding spots in the bushes. “They must have gone around. We need to pack up and keep moving as swiftly and smoothly as possible. We leave in an hour.”

By the time everyone was packed and they began to depart, the sun was fully overhead. Jrich stopped for a moment and looked back at the fast fading image of their beloved home. Something was tearing at his heart knowing that he was leaving it behind. Zink stepped over next to him. “It’s a shame.” Zink said, “Didn’t think I’d ever leave that place. We are all as homesick as you, Jrich. We have to keep moving though. We need to make it out of these mountains before INSK sends more soldiers to slaughter us.”

Jrich snapped out of his daze. “I know. It’s just we are leaving behind all our homes, the spirits of our ancestors, and the memory of Mhuahaha. He was a good man; he shouldn’t have died young.” And with that, Jrich and Zink turned and start heading back up the trail with the others.

Chapter 8

“Hold up!” shouted Reid. Off in the distance he saw two riders bearing Timberfall’s flag. It was the soldiers he sent to scout ahead. He had hurried to them, accompanied by TeraHammer. The scouts looked worried. “What have you found?”

“Sir, we rode ahead into Ghostly Grove. As you know, that wretched place was supposed to be abandoned long ago, but we found fresh footprints and ashes from the campfires. The enemy is nearby. What shall we do, General Reid?”

“The best way to save the people would be to leave them behind, assemble the army, and march to battle.” replied Reid. “It is probably just a few scouts.”

The soldier looked worried. “General, there were more than a few. Guessing by the number of tracks and fire spots, I’d say there are around 300 soldiers.”

Reid let out a sigh and then spoke. “Why do we always end up in these situations? It is as if we are alone with no god to protect us.”

TeraHammer finally spoke up. “We are resisting an empire. We’ve stopped them before and we’ll do it again.”

Reid gave the word to assemble the soldiers. He instructed the villagers on remaining behind. He took notice of the small number of soldiers at his disposal and knew it would be a challenge raising the men’s morale. It took about a half hour until everyone was ready. They decided to divide their army into three squads. Reid and TeraHammer led Alpha squad. Jrich and Zink led Baker squad. Both of these squads consisted of 200 warriors. Murderus and Blackwinds led Charlie squad. It only contained 150 soldiers, 100 of which are Blackwinds highly skilled horsemen. However, the remaining 50 were newly trained villagers. The three squads departed and headed off into the hot summer sun.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The weather wasn’t nice to the exhausted army. It’s been 2 days they left the rest of the villagers, and all the sky has been doing is pounding them second after second with bullets of water. As unpleasant as the rain has been, it has also been slowing down the enemy army. The Protectors have caught up with them.

Reid shouted to the other side of the muddy field. “Halt! We are the heroes’ of Timberfall. We are here to make you pay!”

The army heard a bone chilling voice fly back from the enemy. “I, General Ovesh of the Imperial Army, am here to slay you all. None shall escape and there will be no mercy!” A larger number of warrior stepped out from the forest on the other side of the field. The enemy had tricked them on their size. There were about 1,000 strong.

“Men!” exclaimed Reid, “Today is the day you stand proud for who you are! These are the low lives standing in our way of peace! They have run us out of our homes! There is no more running away. Today we fight, not as individuals, but as the protectors of peace! We will have no life until this scum is wiped off the land! We are not alone; we fight together! CHARGE!”

The three squads charged at the line of Ovesh’s men. There was nothing but the clash of metal and the screams of dying soldiers. The two squads on the ends made a little advancement, pushing slowly but steadily through the line, starting to make it bow. The middle squad, however, led by Reid and TeraHammer, was easily getting drove back. Ovesh was carrying an evil grin on his face. “Just try to stop me stop ‘heroes’”

In reality, Ovesh fell right into their trap. Reid let out a shrill laugh. “Now you are in trouble.” Ovesh had not been paying attention to the two squads on the ends pushing back into his ranks. They had bent Ovesh’s army into a loop. Ovesh and his soldiers have now been trapped as the two end squads now contained the outside. As fiercely as Ovesh and his army fought, they could not break free of the wall of soldiers surrounding them.

“I surrender.” declared Ovesh. “You have bested me and my army.” The fighting instantly stopped and Ovesh’s army dropped their weapons. Ovesh dropped to his knees in front of Reid.

Reid was slightly confused. He hadn’t expected him to give up until death. Murderus came running over to Reid. Immediately he screamed “You can’t believe this man! It’s a trick. Kill him now while you have the chance!” Jrich, Zink, and TeraHammer were all gathered around Reid and the pathetic Ovesh by now. “Reid, don’t be fool. We can’t afford to take prisoners with us. Kill him!”

Reid just stared, still in disbelief. Murderus got fed up with it all, but just as he turned to leave, Ovesh leaped off his knees, and planted a hidden poisoned dagger deep into Murderus’s heart. Instinctively, Zink ripped the dagger out of Ovesh’s hand, and drove it straight through his throat.

Reid was even more stunned. He felt like a statue and just didn’t know what move to make next. The Protectors crouched around Murderus. Jrich held his head as he stared up at his four close friends with teary eyes. “It’s going to be alright guys. I’m just going away for a little while. We’ll all meet up again.” And with those last words, Murderus took his eternal rest.

Jrich was devastated. “First Mhuahaha, now Murderus. When is this going to end?”

The sun came out and dried out the sorrow of the day. They are so close, yet so far away. Will that day of peace ever come? Will INSK and his armies ever be overthrown? The villagers have far to travel, many more hills to climb and rivers to cross, as well as many more dangers to avoid. All this will be concluded in Part II.

END OF PART I
