This is the stupidest law i've ever heard of. This line makes me laugh and should be quote of the week
Quote:

"spree killers have again and again played such before they did the crime." That's quite a statement; one we expect they'd like to support with the German school shootings on March 11th, which were linked to Counterstrike and Far Cry 2.

The questions idiots like them have to ask is Do violent video games make people violent or do they just happen to attract violent people? Now any of us who have ever played the games and never committed an act of violence can tell you they happen to attract violent people. Reminds me of a comic strip I read where they show news people talking about an Xbox being in the same room a crime was committed and to work that angle into the story

[UPDATE] - It has been pointed out that our translation of the minister of Lower Saxony's comment is not entirely accurate, where "spree killers always played such games before they did the crime" should be changed to either "spree killers have again and again played such games." We apologise for the mis-translation.

Reminds me of that BBC discussion following a violent sexual assault, where the criminal had watched violent porn on the internet. The discussion topic? "Should porn be banned?" Most views were extremely idiotic, and could generally fall into two categories: "YES, PORN IS THE SCOURGE OF THE EARTH AND SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!" or "NO WAY PORN SHOULD BE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". Idiotic suggestion, same as this. Shame there's so little common sense these days.

Parents don't wanna be parents anymore, so they need to have something to blame for their kids growing up to be psychotic killers.

The same thing happened here in America after the Columbine shootings, except guys like Marilyn Manson got blamed instead of video games. It's the same damn story every time; the only thing that changes is the scapegoat.

yeah i remember reading something a while back about a kid shooting both his parents in the head with their gun because they took away his copy of halo 3. Guess who got blamed? not the sleepwit of a child, not the parents who kept a loaded gun in their house in the reach of a 13 year old child, but HALO 3 MADE THE KID KILL HIS PARENTS

Ahhh, yup, that sounds about right [sarcastic eye roll...]. The whole idea that video games make people go out and shoot people is asinine. Yes, probably in very rare cases, there is one weirdo that actually thinks video games are real and goes on a killing spree, but I believe the majority of people are capable of rationalizing the difference between real and make-believe. And honestly, if parents don't like the level of violence in video games, then DON'T BUY THEM FOR YOUR CHILDREN! It's that simple.

In the words of Stephen Colbert, "It would be funny if it just weren't so sad."

Its parents to blame, they need to take more responsibility and see what there kids are playing, and they shouldnt by them that crap, parents just know they are sleep up parents and dont want to admit it so they must blame everyone but themselves, thats always how parents have been, its NEVER there fault but someone elses, i always seen parents do that. Until something else like maybe realistic fighting/shooting that puts you into the game play comes out, that will be the next thing they will say is the cause of violence.

Also people now a days are so screwed up in the head that they are a ticking bomb waiting to go off, and then the parents wonder what happened to there little boy/girl when there whole life they were treated like slap my bottom and call me sally from there parents and they are the cause of most kids being screwed up in the head. Seriously the stupidest thing ever

Violent games do affect people in a bad way. But to be vulnerable to it, you have to to be mentally weak/sick.
The ones who wants to ban violent games DO have a point, that's it's bad for society.

But if they do, they should ban:
- Alcohol
- Lots of tv series, movies etc.

And that's not going to happen.

There's actually a theory that runs along the lines of "by giving them a place to vent it, video games make people less likely to do <whatever bad thing it is here>".

Haha! You're absolutely right. Those things WILL NEVER be banned for one simple reason: They're a means of control. TV especially. Gotta keep you plugged into the boob tube! Alcohol not so much, but it still makes the government money so they'll never outlaw it.

Most dumbest remark in the whole topic, even dumber than the ban.

My two cents about it, yes, there should be something done about video game violence. Ban it? No. Definitely not. It's a great way for people to express themselves, let's not forget, we are animals after all. The only thing that makes us different is the fact that we can reason. **
Video game violence should be controlled by the parents, how many kids have I seen/heard who got angry over Halo because someone killed him. When I was 10 years old I got "angry" when my pokémon booster pack didn't have a shiny charrizard in it. Let's not forget that when one is young, one has the urge to take everything in one's environment as right.

** We are born both good as evil. The right interactions around our environment can trigger the right/wrong stuff in our genes. Interaction of nature and nurture.

Aww come on...Germany DOES have some of the best beer in the world (Britain, Belgium, and Ireland as well)! It actually tastes like beer, not the carbonated domestic piss/water they pass off as beer here in America (not counting the micro-brews--all the ones I've tried are excellent)

Besides, they've got a beer purity law that dates back to the 1700s, stating that the only ingredients that can be used to make beer in Germany are water, barley, malt, hops, and yeast :P

My favourite spirit is whisky (not whiskey, that's the rubbish stuff that's not from Scotland), and favourite stout is Guinness. What's yours?
