Okay, I've got to say this:

In the old forum, when a new person spoke their mind, there seemed to be some old-timer who put them down for being a newbie. It got to the point, they same people would post over and over and over again. And the new folks, if they stayed with the game, would avoid the forum like it was a plague.

THIS CRAP HAS GOT TO STOP!

I'm sorry, I though we WANTED the game to grow. I though we WANTED new players to feel at home, to enjoy the game and to be part of the forum.

This will NEVER happen as long as 'old-timers' feel they can dismiss a player's opinions because they are new.

People around here are talking from both sides of the mouth as the saying goes. Either we want new people to pay the game and express their feelings on the forum or we want this to be a closed game for the selected minority (old-timers.)

Make up your mind.

Sorry to take subject off-topic, but I've seen far too many posts (in this thread) by old-timers basically picking on someone or dismissing their opinions because they are new.

Well i dont have any problems with the old timers. But then i dont get into a fight or discussion if i don´t have the facts. It´s much more fun to see the oldies beat at each other :)

I´m just trying to have a enjoyble time here and learn from them instead.. Both the good and from their mistakes

I'm curious too see more opinions about this.

Let me say on beforehand that I think people dismissing the opinions of others just because of their "newbeeishness" is very, very lame. But there are also better topics for new forumers to introduce themselves than throwing them in a heated topic like "new bug" with their very first post.

I've taken a look at your posts too, amazonia. You posted only in these heated topics like "new bug", "dont know"... but there are a lot of other topics much more friendly topics next to these. Post something in the suggestions forum sometimes, or post something funny in off topic. In short, if you come to the forum just for bickering, then its bickering that you're likely to get.

Well isn't that jumping to a conclusion? This particular forum is relatively new. How do you know he's not an even older player than you? Maybe he's been a member of the older forums for a very long time. And he did in fact hint that he did used to be a member in the old forum, since he compared that against this forum.
And besides, even if he was new here why should he stay out of the heated topics? His opinions are worth as much as the older players.

There aint any stupid questions, only stupid answers.

I think the saying goes
There ain't any stupid questions, only stupid people.

The problem is that the only interesting topics in the forum for new players are the heated discussions, not many other topics get new players.

That's a new one for me ;)
But if someone asks a question then he probably have a reason for asking the question. If you don't have the time or patience to answer it politely, then simply don't answer it at all.

Of course the heated topics are of interested. I bet many new signups on the forum are solely because they want to have their questions answered about what's happning with the bug. So now there's a chance to make these new players stay on the forum, by simply responding them politely. Otherwise they will turn away again from the forum.

You are assume WAY too much Tera. On the old forums I was abbaspice1. When we got the new forum, I decided to use my game name. So NO, I don't only post on the heated topics Tera. And on the old forum, I posted in the suggestion folder lots of times. I also posted in other topics also. So, I guess if I decide to post on the 'bickering' folders as you call it, I should just expect to see bickering. I didn't even know we had bickering folders. Good to know.

Thanks Treacher or setting the record straight.

First, let me say that these attacks went indeed too far. It is good that you post this so we moderate more tightly and not keep an eye closed for veterans or friends.
Second, amazonia, that is not what i said or intended to say. I merely wanted you to take a look at other topics so you could view that its really not in general that players are argueing or flaming. And I was hoping to see you post there so you can appreciate the forum in that way too.
Third, Treacher, to counter your sentence about jumping to conclusions, I think you did that in return, actually. I never intended to disadvice newbies from posting in heated topics. And I did not at all care about whether amazonia is a newbie or not. When I saw (s)he had just 5 posts at this forum my goal was to point out that there are other topics here too where newbies are respected and listened to. I know that doesn't help for your point. In those heated topics, forum newbies should be respected aswell like any oldtimer.

Hope this clarifies.

edit: However I also agree what arrested says; if you mingle in such discussions, you should be prepared to get countered.

I read the other posts Arrested. Bu that still doesn't justify dismissing people because one thinks that they are new. Or the name-calling.

Some of us have been here for round and round after round. People need to grow up.

Again, if we want for LA to grow, we need to look at how we treat new folks. Games that are growing keep a very close eye on the forums and how new people are treated. Gaming is about relationships. If I like the game and the forum, I invite people.

If I feel like I can't even converse with a person, why in the world would I want to play a game with them? If I'm going to get jumped upon for expressing an idea about the game and what is happening IN the game (which is what forums are for), why would I invite any of my friends to play? So I can form group A who is now going to attack group B in the forums? Talk about a mob mentality.

I know, some of you don't agree with me. But we who have played this game for more than 3 or 4 rounds, should be more mature.

I'm more man than you will ever be, and more woman than you will ever get.

You said the only post I posted in were the heated posts. I didn't misread what you wrote. That is what you said. Either you 1)assumed that I never posted in the forum(s) before 2) You ignored the fact that I have posted in the old forum before or 3) You didn't know. In any case, you assumed something that wasn't true. You didn't state until your recant that you meant the current forum.

And nothing is wrong with countering. However, countering takes logic and a command of the vocabulary. Calling people names uses neither one of those tools.

In the old forums, I took a look and as I told you, posted in those folders. Again, what I saw was "Someone already posted that topic. If you look through the past 20 pages, you would have seen that!", rolling of the eyes, people being called noob or newbie outside of the heated topics (ie the suggestion topic) etc.

Now, you may argue that it is a new forum. Yet, I recognize about 70-80% of the same names with the same attitudes as before. And now, I am assuming that since it is the same people with the same attitudes that nothing much has changed. *chuckle* And if you don't believe me, read some of the sigs.

I'm not a newbie, I just don't like what I saw.

Ok then my apologies for bad english in my first post for the misunderstanding.

And if you want to hear it again, I do not care if you are a newbie or not and I agree with you that attacks have gone too far.

I have this wierd idea that my opinions and ideas somehow matter when it comes to this forum, so allow me to share some of them.

Let me start with history. As you know, LA went down. In time, the forum got down to only a handfull of players posting. KB, Reid, Brithor, Ken, TH and myself. We've been around for the full year and a half that LA was down and the forum alsmost empty. I was a mod at the time. Half Truth (or chaos) was the admin who popped in every once in a while. We had a lot of laughs, just a group of mates posting as it were. I moderated nothing. We were alone in there, why would I?

Then the game got back up. I suddenly found the forum a lot busier. It was still all fun and games. Nobody cared about cheating or anything. It was a beta. I was still just a mod. I moderated the really bad stuff.

Fast forward to november. Half Truth resgined and left me in charge of the forum. Suddenly I was an admin. I was scared out of my mind. I've never been admin before. Not only that, but the old forum was annoying like hell. It failed on us a lot in the past. So, people urged me to move to a new forum. I can assure you, when you've just got admin and you have to instigate a move, you got your work cut out for you.

Now to this forum, it started out great. Nice and busy. But I was doubtfull. With the activity came trouble. Now, I hate banning and warning people. I prefer everybody being able to say and do what they want. But I am also responsible for a forum. I am the guy who has to mind that people of different age and ethnic groups are posting. So, in the beginning I thought "LA is back, everybody is psyched up, full of energy and emotions. This all needs to get off of their chests. So I'll let them rage for now.". But here we are, several months later, and the emotions are getting higher still. Things are as bad as the time SS got attacked for, to use the infamous term, cows.

I've been using the past months to find a way to run this forum. Hell, I bugged a lot of people about it. TeraHammer, Yosh, to name a few. I still haven't quite got the policy I want to uphold yet. And this is my first massive argument as an Admin. So, forgive me if things have gotten out of hand. I am to blame. But believe me when I say hardly anybody has a greater lovw for this forum than I have. I am not about to accept defeat and let it sink.

So let us all try and be as pleasant to eachother as possible. Now, we don't have to like one another. I can tell you now that I don't like some people paying LA as much as others. So let us not build this forum on loving and liking, but let us build this forum on respect. Also respect yourself, do not lower yourself to a level of the useless bantering, scolding and discriminating of others.Together we can make this forum a great place!

Thank you,

Mhuahaha (Robin)
