"Welcome to the World"

After the stars doth cross the heavens,
The sky in the East doth darken and air doth fill with mourning.
-Epitaph of Twilight

My name is Fuyu Genkei.
You could also say it isn't.

An artificial sun shone down on a computer generated city. Mac Anu, the main hub of "The World". Computer graphics took the light and reflected it off the water that ran through the floating city, carrying water around in an endless circle. Akemi looked his PC's reflection in the water, as he stood on a bridge. Sounds echoed around him, from water to players talking.
The veins of liquid continued to pump blood around Mac Anu. Akemi watched a player throw an item into the water. For a moment it vanished into the depths, only to resurface a few feet down stream. The two, unaware of each other's presence, watched the object float away and around a bend.

Akemi was bored of just leveling. Killing monsters over and over wasn't very fun. Spectated fights like the Arena were boring, and wandering around trying to find someone to kill was just as dull. In an effort to have fun, the Brandier decided visiting the main root town would avail something fun, but after three hours, he had only gotten a comment on his character style. Things were dull.
"...Was missing everything. I hate the evade glitch." A passerby chatted with her friend, ignoring Akemi.
"I've been getting that a lot, too. I heard some weird monsters have been popping up too."
"I heard that too. Hey, remember the item..." The pair moved out of hearing distance, vanishing into a small crowd gathered around a bank. Akemi sighed, staring after them.
The water kept on flowing, but it no longer reflected a bored face.

Akemi opened his eyes, the game quickly adjusting its graphics as it finished loading the area. The server was especially packed today. It was a weekend; the beginning of Spring Break, to be more specific. The area all around the player was packed with players, making it almost impossible to move. The Brandier sighed, and opened a menu, and hit a button.
Random Area

//Now entering Θ Ignorant Gray Cathedral. Loading...//
The area info said it was a forest type dungeon area with a boss. And sure enough, when the PC opened his eyes, he was in a deep and lush forest. With a sigh, he drew his blade. Back to the grind.

(Keep in mind I'm offering a lot of freedom in this, so don't feel restricted about anything you are doing.)

I'm George... um, hi.

My, The World looks lovely today, I thought to myself. It's such a shame, so many of these people are completely annoying, the noobsayers, and the people asking for gold. I had nothing left to do but look on the forums. But first, I guess I had to move back to the town I use...

// Now entering Θ Dol Dona. Loading...//

... Ugh, Lag. So many students from the recent break have gone on. "This is too annoying." I said aloud, accidentally. Then I quieted myself and listened to some of the gossip before leaving.
"... A new server might be popping up" one, older player mentioned.
"I've heard. But it's only going to be for elite characters." said his friend.
I picked up another conversation.
“Is that so... I've never been there before. What is this fortress like" A younge girl asked her freind. Her friend corrected her saying "no, no, it's a Forge!"

...I suddenly smiled, despite the lag. Suddenly I thought: Did I just seriously hear publicity? This could get interesting...

Technically, I am a "Player Killer", so the fight might get interesting, and afterwards I'd probably Party Request them. People I can depend on... I'd like that.

I couldn't take the annoying lag anymore, and decided to get out of the root town. I hit the key to home, and enter the area I created.

The World around me suddenly glowed into a lovely gold hue, before dicappating into shades of blue and light green. My usual respawn point for the area was deep and inaccessable to other players, so I left to the front area of the fortress, where I had access to the Forums of Dol Dona.
"Now where is.... wait..." I spoke aloud. I realized that the area was not running quite up to speed. I decided I'd check everything later, when I had more time. Then I reached the "board" in the foyer which lead to the forum.

... Wait... New bosses? The CCcorp would have notified me of the update. They always have...

Lemme look...

[Post: (noobslayer): I was in an area that looked like it took place on a hillside, and the area was coveted in stronger viruses than usual. even weirder, I found a "boss" type character that was completely out of context, and very scary... I escaped just in time... but... what was it?

Post: ((########)): Which area was this? Send me a PM!

Post: ((########)): K. Thanks!]

... I noted that this post was from about a month ago, and I wondered why I didn't read this earlier? This user's account was deleted,shown by the (########). I wondered what happened...

<leaving Θ BBS: goodbye!>

Someone was there. I looked around and then decided that I must "protect" the the forge!

(Open for any character, except for Rin, as he's in another area currently.)

Neil drummed his fingers against his desk, his internet having crapped out for the fifth time in the past hour. His internet provider had always been on the lesser end of things, but his parents didn't want to waste money on anything with even a slightly smaller chance of crashing. It was better than dial-up at least, and he had learned to live with it. Which didn't stop him from being a little annoyed. Could anyone really blame him for it though? A few times a day he could handle. Five times in an hour? It was ludicrous. If it crashed again he had decided to spend his time wandering around outside aimlessly. He just hoped it didn't come to that, it kind of looked like it was going to rain. Again.

His computer happily informed him that the internet was back online, and he immediately navigated his desktop to 'The World' and waited for it to boot up. Once up he logged in Neil moved straight into the virtual reality, watching the visor blink 'loading...' encouragingly. Delta server's home town Mac Anu soon spread out from under his PC, Oilipheist's, feet.

Normally, he might have gone straight to his guild, Kestrel. Today he felt like soloing, which meant there was no point in going to the guild to make awkward attempts at building a party. Besides, half the time he couldn't trust another PK not to kill him, or at least try to. Plus, with the beginning of the break not only was Mac Anu noticeably packed but Kestrel was more than likely to be a hub of users coming and going as fast as they could form parties. Generally, the constant flow of people coming and going made the potential for lag worse than just a bunch of people milling around.

Instead he moved on to the Theta server, Dol Dona, again waiting for the city to load and hoping his internet didn't spontaneously crash again. Coming on later in the week might have been a better idea, when at least a good portion of the people online were gone to some isolate location for a vacation. Right now there were more players loitering around to kill though, and considering that's what he generally liked to do he couldn't just go ahead and wait until later in the week for people to start to disappear. It would kind of defeat the purpose.

Tuning out the onslaught of babble that came with the city finally loading Oilipheist glided through the crowds, intent on reaching the guild shops in the plaza below. With so much activity it was possible the shops had something decent to offer for once, most of the good items had to be found in random dungeons throughout the game. Sometimes those items circled through guild shops and sometimes Oilipheist would get lucky and find something useful. That hadn't happened for a good twenty levels or so, but it was worth a shot before he set out to wreak carnage in a few dungeons.

...sigh. I can't find anything on here.

Why is it that that sound was made, I thought to myself. The moniter pinged everytime someone entered the area. it seemed to be going crazy, but my minimap showed no one. looking further by the entrance, the entire area was empty except for the "shopkeeper" program that was up and one person over checking for monsters. Unfortunately, I had already noted him being here, as he was one of the CCcorps lower admins.

I told him I was heading out, technically a note for him to boot it as well, but he stayed. The fact is, he had glitched up. quite possibly, he had already left, and his data was nothing more than just a bug in the system. I messaged him telling him to leave once more, but to no avail. his stats showed up as zilch, nada, nothing. not even a single gold...

Eventually, I ignored the shell of a character, and left the area.

// Now entering Θ Dol Dona. Loading...//

Theta server root town had cleared up quite a bit now, as many of the players had either left to another area, or were off for the night. This might be a rough week if people keep coming on, I noted dully.

Reluctantly, I decided to go to a shop in the middle of town. After all, If the Corporation forgot to mention that there were new bosses in these new areas, why not that there were new items? either way, I was low on HP recover items, and I didn't like to Item spawn in my own areas. It is somewhat cheating after all.

?

Why couldn't I move? I seemed to be moveing at a snails pace besides the masses leaving for the moment. Was some of my data still in the forge? so many thought were running through my head, but I couldn't do anything quickly. I had moved maybe to the edge of the gate area by now, a total of 5 meters, perhaps?

I had nothing left to do but to save and restart my file.

<Logon Yamihikaru>

Things seemed to improve, but I didn't like how everything was going. still curious as to what had happened, I turned my character to the inner reaches of the gate, and decided to go to a random area.
