OOC:Should have mentioned this in my Character post but my character is a Polish immigrant. IC: When Dr. John Nowakowski had come from his native Poland to repair a misaligned particle accelerator he had not expected to stay longer then a few months. Of course he soon found him forced to stay as a dedicated technician. He had hoped to return this year, unfortunly the zombie apocalypse soon dashed these hopes. Now just outside of Alton John was making his slow, slow (Very slow) trek to nothern Canada. Hoping against hope Zombies hated cold or were atleast deterred by the barren wasteland that is Canada. Hefting a backpack used for carrying the slim amount of supplies he had with him John started jogging along the road towards Alton for a resupply (Maybe even find a car to decrease the travel time). OOC: So yeah, I don't know what exactly you want us to do chrome so sorry for any problems... |

The pack tugged at Mike's shoulder, but he was used to it. This was not like the early days, when he could barely go above a jog carrying his entire pack. He had made it quite a ways from his house in Maryland, but more travel was to come if he was to make it to the Bering straight. Mike managed to link up with a small group of travelers during his trip. The more eyes awake at all times, the greater the chance of survival. He jogged up to another man, bearded and with glasses. He might've been a scientist, or an engineer. Mike couldn't shake the feeling that he's seen him somewhere before, or someone that looks a lot like him. "Hey. What's your name?" |

OOC: I atleast tried to make him a little differnt then Freeman IC: "Doctor John Nowakowski." John said out of a habit that unfortunly did not die with civilization. Relizing the implications of his title he quickly added "Not that kind of Doctor though, I'm a Theoretical Physicist, or atleast I was. Prehaps you've read one of my papers, Mister...?" |

It was silent, for the most part... The gun slung over Vick's back bit into his skin, begging to be moved. Complying, the survivor slung it over into his hands, lifting it slightly with his hands. The heavy pack which made him feel slightly off balance swayed around as the man shuffled over to some of his group members, some faces creased with worry, and nearly all spattered with grime and dirt. It had been a month since the infection, and the fact that they all still had a beating heart was proof that most of them at least had some idea how to survive. Two of them, one in a large coat and the other appearing to be some sort of bearded hobo, were chatting off to the side. Shrugging his shoulders to move around the weight of his pack, Vick lumbered over to them. "...John Nowakowski." The bearded one went on, apparently introducing himself properly to the other. "...Perhaps you've read one of my papers, mister...?" "Sharp." Vick answered, despite the question not being directed at him. He held out a gloved and dirty hand, his gun hanging limply at his side. "Vick Sharp at your service. Decent shot, ex-Welder, and shit gone due to fear. Happy to help keep humanity alive in this hell hole I call home." ...Rin |

Christian turned around and looked at the group of survivors behind him. Most were actually older than himself. There were a few of them that were getting to know each other better. Christian rolled his eyes and shook his head. The closest he planned on getting to the people around him was the kindness of putting a bullet in their brain should they get bitten. He jiggled the ammo case in his pocket. He had about 1 1/2 cases of his ammo left. He looked at a street sign, it said they were close to Alton. He hated being here. He had come all the way to Illinois, just to find that what could have remained of his family was gone. Worse yet they were all zombies. He had killed them all. He hoped someone would do the same for him, should the worst happen. Now after all that he was going right back the way he came, heading north after all the effort to get south. He turned to the three that had begun to talking, and walked over himself. "So, any of you have family left?" |

"Mike Vorontsov." He shook the hand outstretched to him, then turned to the Doctor. "Unfortunately, I haven't the pleasure of reading any of your papers. I was studying for design when the shit hit the fan. " He chuckled "Lot of help that is now... At least I can shoot straight." Another stranger approached him. "So any of you have family left?" Mike gritted his teeth, although this was hard to notice. "Brother, Brother!" Mike looked back He picked up his sister, took the other one by the hand, and began to jog. They were almost there... "No." Mike's voice was coarser than before. Edited by MikeV37, Oct 20 2009, 08:53 PM.

Vick nodded at Mike. "Nice to meet you, too." At this, another man walked up, joining their conversation. "Do any of you have any family left?" The ex-welder shook his head, propping his gun against his shoulder. "I came from a very small family. My dad died of cancer before the infection, and my mom committed suicide at the first sign of the infection." His voice didn't waver, nor did his heart. They were dead, and that was that. To Vick, mourning over the dead did nothing but slow you down. "That's a bit of an odd question to be asking in these times, mate. What's ya name?" ...Rin |

I come from a big family. Counting both sides, I had at least 30 cousins. That's a lot of people to check up on. I wasn't fast enough, and I lost them. So I'm just wondering about the rest of you. I've got no ties to anyone now, so it would be nice to find out someone still had some family left. |

Kranford rode down the off-ramp from the interstate on his ATV, into the parking lot of an abandoned rest stop. He had been going along the interstate the whole time, stopping every so often at rest stops on his way to better pastures. He gassed up his ATV at the station, then went inside to see if he could scavenge any supplies. He was able to load in a few supplies onto the ATV, fired it up, and drove back onto the interstate. The vehicles abandoned there had mostly been sent to the side of the road, granting him an easy ride down the road, above whatever zombies and jumbies might be lurking hither and tither. He knew he'd have to leave this interstate soon though in order to reach Dixon. He would probably transition to another route near Alton; he took the off ramp. (Note that you guys will probably hear me on approach now.) |

There was a grumble through the nearby woods, near the road on the other side. It didn't sound like an infected, but what else could it be? "Hey, you guys hear that?" Mike raised finger to point in the general direction of the noise. Anything to get his mind off family. |

In the distance, he could see someone riding an ATV down an interstate. "Well, would you look at that. Someone is announcing to all the zombies there's speed delivery now." ...Rin |

John listened silently, soaking in the information these fellow travellers related. Their tragic tales gave him a grounding in a reality he unfortunly had forgotten with his studies in the atomic. He stewed silently in thoughts of the present and the frightening possibilities that the future may hold for him, those around him and the entire human species that he may not even get to see. Luckly he was snapped out of his dark thoughts as the sound of an engine roared nearby. "God damnit." John spat as he drew his 9mm, "Zombies are going to be charging at us any second now. We need to get out of here. NOW!" |

UPDATE: Just as John yelled for the group to get moving, a screech rings out in the distance. The survivors look towards the source of the sound. It came strait from Alton, the entire zombified population must have heard the ATV, or the ones that did began their charge setting off the rest of them. On an estimate, they have about 3 minutes until a horde of undead come charging out of the city towards them. Not much time to get positioned. There were only a few options open to them, stand and fight, or flee. Another screech pierces the otherwise calm day, louder and closer by the sound of it. IC: Christian twisted around to the sound of the noise. He grabbed the Crowbar stuck in one of his belt loops and held it at the ready. Another screech rang out, much closer. Christian didn't have a mind to stick around and fight an entire horde of these things. He began to back up, the ATV in the distance was kicking up smoke, he couldn't make it out, but it was a better alternative to zombies at this point. He made sure the strap keeping his rifle in place was positioned correctly. He looked at the others in his group. "RUN!" Christian said as he turned around and began sprinting towards the ATV, and hopefully someone well armed. |

Kranford knew trouble was fast approaching when he saw two people come running for him. He stopped the ATV and let them approach. He could hear them through the helmet- it had very fine meshing there, allowing him to hear with little trouble. He stopped it, and let the two approach. "Judging from those shrieks, I'd say I'm about to bring some violence to your future. If you guys are willing to help carry my gear, then I can ditch this in an explosive manner and get those husks off our backs. You guys up for it?" he said as he equipped his gear and ammo satchels. The food and medical supplies (including a first-aid kit, complete with syrettes, a valuable asset in any group.) were mounted on the back section of the ATV.

((Well, aren't you all getting overly frustrated.)) Vick, with his rifle ready in his hands, stepped up the ATV. "You got some guts driving that thing around. In case you can't already tell, there's a whole damn city after us now." He frowned at the man, and spat at the ground in front of him. "Well, guess its time to make some battle plans..." The man turned away from the ATV, as if he had already forgotten him. On the road, there were a few abandoned vehicles. One, a semi truck without its trailer, along with a mini van, a volkswagon, and an old fashion red pick up truck. Vick studied the Semi truck, crawling up into the driver seat. With a cheer, the truck started up, after a few tries. The Ex-welder hopped back out, waving to the other survivors. "Always good to know how to hotwire a car," The man said cheerfully, putting away his knife and wiping his fingers on his shirt. Vick pointed back at the truck, explaining his plan. "We don't need to kill all the zombies, just the fast ones. Most of us can sit up on top the Semi, and pick them off. Don't forget to try to blow up the other cars when you can. Bullets don't work, but if you got something that burns, that'll easily set them off. After we kill a good lot of the runners that get to us, two people in the driver's seat can start the truck going, and we'll be off. We won't get completely away from the zombies, and won't be able to go very fast, but those of us on top should be able to pick off those that catch up with us." With that, Vick placed both arms on his hips triumphantly. "Anyone got a better plan?" ((So I kinda pulled this out of nowhere, but, we didn't get a description other then a "road". Chances are, there were abandoned vehicles on it. ;3 /inarush)) ...Rin Edited by Rin Seiko, Oct 22 2009, 08:59 AM.

Kranford replied to Vick promptly, "Well I have guts and I have a fast vehicle. We need to get to the interstate 55. That's my destination. Ultimately I'm headed for Dixon, and frankly, I'd say anywhere is better than here. If you guys want to follow me, go right ahead. I'll see what I can do to keep the jumbies (fast zombies) off of you. I have four pipe bombs for you guys, just take them off the back of the ATV. By the way, call me Kranford. It's a little name I've picked up recently." He noted the noise of rapidly-approaching Jumbies and readied his .223 pistol. Ahh the wonders of gun shoulder straps. |

OOC: It's fine Rin. Christian readily accepted a pipe bomb from Kranford, he took a second one and tossed it up to Vick, and climbed up onto the semi himself. He reached the top and crouched down, he checked the second magazine for his rifle, and set one of the cases of ammo down beside him. He steadied his rifle and aimed down his iron sight. UPDATE: The horde became clearly visible. It was smaller than what it had sounded like, made up of maybe 40 individuals, most were fast zombies, but there were at least two slow zombies mixed in with them. The horde charged down the road towards the survivors. Luck was on their side. Christian turned off the safety on his rifle, and fired the first shot into the horde that was rapidly approaching them. He took down a zombie, and aimed downrange again. OOC: Time to fight people. Feel free to take down however many zombies you think your weapons could kill in about 30 seconds. |

Kranford took aim through the scope of his .223 pistol and promptly fired a a round into one of the jumbies. The skull erupted in a fountain of blood and brains as he took off another shot, dropping another one of the runners. His third shot was spoiled by the recoil from his two previous shots, only going into the shoulder of his next target. He finished things off by popping off a fourth round that plowed through a pair of zombies, dropping them like stones. Kranford checked his sides to make sure there were no zombies sneaking up on them. |

Vick caught the pipe bomb, shoving it into one of his many pockets. He motioned to the man in the heavy coat, yelling "Hey! Get your ass in the driver seat! Beard dude with glasses, get in there with him. Rest of you, get the fuck up here with me!" Now certainly wasn't the time for figuring out who was doing what, nor was it a time to politely ask people to do something. With that in his mind, the man brought his rifle up to bear, his heavy pack biting at his shoulders a bit. If he wasn't balancing on top of a truck, he'd have tossed the thing. A slight crack and a flash of light signaled the departure of a slug from the Wooden Slug. The little metallic projectile flew forward, connecting with one of the lead zombie's left eye. A shot of pure luck, with a little bit of aim thrown in there. This shot wasn't alone, though, as three more quickly followed it. Another zombie dropped, its skull partly caved in. The other two bullets slammed helplessly into a single zombie, doing nothing save destroying the nerves in one of its arms. Vick swore at his poor aim due to his pack. But, there wasn't anything to do about it, so he finished off the rest of his magazine, dropping three more zombies. The irritated survivor yanked out the empty cartridge, simply dropping it the moment it left the gun. After a bit of fumbling, another had taken its place, and continued its duty to kill mindless blobs of flesh. ...Rin |

John moved beside the ATV, using it as a peice of cover. Taking aim at one of the charging zombies he aimed at the center of the group and fired. The shot went wild missing it's target but due to the packed way the zombies travelled the shot managed to connect with one, ripping into the zombies pelvis and causing it to pitch forward. This zombie was then trampled by the others, its head smashing open like a water melon under the feet of its companions. John bit back the bile in his throat from the grisly sight and took aim on anouther zombie. |

Mike continued to move back while shooting. He took aim at those who were closer first. The targets were running toward him, not bothering to strafe or cover. Wonderful. a bit to the left, as usual Click, Boom, Ching. The hammer falls upon the charge. Click, Boom, Ching. The bolt releases it's used core. Click, Boom, Ching. The zombies head explodes to dust. The zombies heads started popping like corn down a microwave. It took less than 2 seconds to aim, and less than a second to pull the trigger. He had to reload once, which took some time, but Mike wasn't running out of ammo any time soon. Two clips out, 16 shots. Around six zombies were hit in the head, their brain matter crashing around and ripped from their body, more than 8 stumbled over their own speed as they were hit, and slowed down significantly, although not dead. One poor jumbie was missing his lower jaw. Mike reached for another clip. |

UPDATE: The zombies continued their charge. The original 40 were brought down to 28, still outnumbering the survivors. In the distance, behind the incoming horde, were 3 slow zombies. Making their way over to the survivors, if they still had a string of consciousness, they were hoping they would get there in time to get some food. Since of course they didn't, they simply shuffled along, at a brisk 1mph. 30 seconds before they would be on the survivors. IC: Christian decided against firing again. The semi he was on top of with Vick, well it had been hot wired, time to use it. Christian flung his rifle into the truck and swooped in himself. He got into the drivers seat (checking the back first) and then look forward. The truck was in park, and Christian reved the engine to alert Vick to hold on. Ah, hell. "The hell are you doing Christian?!"Francis?! Vick fumbled for a hold, settling on the dip of the roof on the front of the truck. Knuckles white, he clutched for his life, staring at the mindless flesh sacks that blindly ran forward. Bu-thump. There went one. Other zombies crumbled underneath the weight of the truck, where as a one got stuck on the front. It stared at Vick, its infected eyes glowing. Slowly, it struggled to crawl up the truck to him. Vick stared back at it, readying his crow bar. TheVick apparently didn't understand that glass on a car isn't the strongest. As the zombie reached the windshield, Vick swung at it... And missed. The glass instantly cracked all along it, making sight impossible from inside. Vick swung again, and this time his metal stick made contact with the zombie's head, which was now splattered on the wind shield. ...Rin |

Kranford pulled a fifth pipe bomb from the back of his ATV and pressed the "on" switch. As he tossed it through the air, it released a high-pitched beeping, instantly catching the attention of the undead. The bomb landed some 80 feet away from the jumbies, who instantly chased after it. Almost the entire group was trying to grab at the thing when it blew, scattering their parts everywhere and even blasting shrapnel into the brains of a few of them. This only left the slow zombies and a couple of fast movers. The remaining fast movers each got a round to the head, while the slow zombies got the same treatment. All they had to do now was keep away from the heads of the zombies that had been shredded by the blast. Kranford rode his ATV up to the semi truck and informed the driver of his plan. "if you guys are interested, follow me. I'm headed for route 143 east, then take a left at route 159 north. After that, it's a right onto route 140 until we hit I-55. You guys interested?" he asked to the group.
