Auruiron

(All credit is given where due)

As he returned along the shore,
Auruiron thought of long days past,
When he was young and fair of heart,

He longed to be so yet again.

Auruiron Alcarion

Auruiron and Makalaure reached Minas Noldorion in Southern Falathlorn at last. And Auruiron breathed the fresh warmer air, "All is well. Makalaure, I have returned. I will try to mend thy wounded heart, and sing forth thy tears of peace. Shall we begin?" Yet Makalaure remained tired from their long journey.
Auruiron then prepared for him a bed of great quality, and then withdrew to his own chambers. The keys to the building were on a necklace he often wore.
Makalaure will not be escaping anytime soon,he thought to himself. The next morning, Auruiron traveled to the Falathlorn Vale, and celebrated the Elvish New Year. TA 3017 had ended. He participated in the role of one of the Vanyar found by Imin. During the celebration, he noticed the Elvish hunter he had left in Nenuial, along with his wife. Ere the events were passed, he approached the hunter, who responded to him with delight. He was not as terrified of him as the Dunedain were, and still regarded him with wonder and awe. For the hunter never saw the blood on Auruiron's hands, nor his escape into the night, and he departed from Nenuial at dawn before the Corsair Raid that rescued Guldrambor. He was now content, and Auruiron was as well to see him so.The hunter promised not to reveal to any what had transpired, and Auruiron rejoined Laurefinde. They rode fast on return to Minas Noldorion,
and so came to the Tower. Almareon ran out hysterically, and informed them of an event. For while they were gone, Makalaure became confused and even fearful due to his guard along the premises, and slipped the keys off of Almareon. He slipped away and vanished. Makalaure had escaped. Auruiron immediately ordered Almareon and his soldiers to search everywhere in the region for him. Laurefinde was even more concerned, but for Auruiron. When he understood Auruiron's reasoning, he became less fearful, but warned him not to confine Makalaure so much.

Then Auruiron heard the voice upon the wind,
and Makalaure thus sang:

"Haryalyë órenua tassë' (I am yours to command)
'Áni apsenë' (Look at me)
'Nanyë sinomë nestatal' (I am here to release you)
'Ani anta tulwë' ({You} Lead us out)
An aira ar eleni!" (By the Sea and the Stars)

Auruiron sang in return, and promised not to confine him. However, Makalaure was yet again being called on by despair
and fear not to return. Thus, Almareon brought with him a special draught, of Miruvor and Athelas essence combined, and Makalaure drank from it, unknowing what it was. Makalaure fell into a deep sleep, and the Ainon Cundan bore him in honor to the Tower. Auruiron retired to his own chambers in the high tower above the library, which overlooked a great deck upon the library's roof. Auruiron read thereof the ancient records
of the Ainon Cundan for some time. Auruiron closed the book, and attempted to enter into the Elvish sleep. He refused to knock himself out with his athelas mixture. He began to dream. The stars were glinting on the horizon above the Sea, and the wind was silent.Yet then, in the shadows of his doorway, Auruiron's grief gave-way to horror. He had taken the cloak in which he had often rested, the one blessed by Nienna in Aman, and laid it on a chair near Makalaure before he went to sleep. It, as its brother, was gold and white. The other was in a chest, in his chamber, but he sought not to wear it. Now for his foolishness he was vulnerable to nightmares. There, before his eyes, stood one who appeared to be Makalaure. His eyes were fiery red, and his pupils as yellow as that of a cat. His voice was unmistakable. "Thou fool!", it spoke, "Thy torturous ways canst not hinder me! Now thou shalt suffer, for now tis I who hold the lash!". Auruiron rubbed his eyes, and the being was gone. "Guldrambor", he muttered to himself. "I will not let you win. It is you who are mistaken".

Auruiron was then plunged into a series of dreams of which he was not in control. He saw the frozen wastes of the North.
He saw a Black Ship anchored on the Ice, behind the same ice-sheet as Suri-Kyla, and he saw Guldrambor sitting in his study. His arms were scarred.Auruiron felt his forehead, and saw red blood upon his hand. Terror seized him. He then found himself standing in a room in a tower, not unlike his own, staring into the gloom. Where am I, and what is the source of the blood? He felt it again upon his face. He looked outside of the window.
There was screaming, terror, and anger in the air. It reminded him of Eregion. He saw docks in the distance. Alqualonde returned to his memory. He saw ramparts aflame. Sirion entered into his mind. Yet he was not lucid, he could tell, and yet the pain was gripping. Then he recognized the citadel of Duillond in the distance. He ran from the tower. He saw Lord Cirdan rallying his soldiers. Clearly he was in Mithlond, and Lindon was under attack. Corsairs were attacking Lindon. Ainon Cundan soldiers fought in battle. Annunon, Melimwe, and Astarseron were locked in a strong phalanx against their foes. Auruiron was prepared to join them, but then he looked into the distance. He could see a great stone rampart before the Sea, and not unlike the one
on which he had fought Makalaure in Sirion. Upon it stood a dark figure. Auruiron advanced, and drew forth his blade. But his mind was aghast! He saw Makalaure, with flaming red and yellow eyes, and his sword glowing with blood! He hears laughter. "Thou, dareth to attack me now. Thou art a traitor.
You let them die. You are he who chose to save his friends over duty. Kinslayer though art, through you know it not!" The voice of Guldrambor sounded with an Avari dialect. "Did you think you would surpass me, oh mighty one of the Noldor?" Guldrambor laughed darkly."Now I will fulfill my vow to my father in Aman so long ago. Now shall I reclaim his honor bythy ruination! Auruiron yelled. "No! Never! Who are you? Art thou Elf,
Man, or Demon?" Guldrambor continued to laugh. "I am all of the above! You are weak. Yes, very weak. A Calaquendi would be
stronger than this. Fallen prey to grief and despair. Ere you tortured me, the Gate was opened to thy Doom. I sealed it upon thy flesh. You have
not escaped, and will never escape, my wrath. For I shall enslave thee, and bring out the worst in you, as your people have done to me. You are selfish.
You are only for thy lost dreams, thy lost ambitions, thy lost friends, Thy! Thy wilt not survive thy own faults. Come to my blade and perish!"

Guldrambor's voice then became darker and with weighty authority. "Mandos shall not relent!" Guldrambor then transformed into Namo the Elder, or Mandos.
"Ye shall fall and ye shall die! My Doom shall fall upon you as the leaves of Laurelin scatter before the netherwinds to the ends of Arda! Ye shall love thy friend, unto the Everlasting Darkness, and wept with him in endless tears, ere the Void consumes ye both!" Auruiron reacted angrily. "I defy thee!"Mandos then retorted, "Ye will not seek to defy thy Doom!" Auruiron felt cold, and anguish is in his heart."Ha! You are not Mandos! You are an imposter, a
father of lies, who can never speak Truth!" Mandos then retorted,"Ye shalt perish for thy insolence!" Mandos then transformed into Annatar." Perhaps this then will suffice?" Annatar lifted a spear with Celebrimbor's head upon it. "You! Traitor! Foe of Eregion! Murderer of my lord whom I loved as a son!"
Auruiron then struck a blow and dueled with Annatar, whose robes flared in many-colours, and whose eyes were as fiery red as that of a Balrog.
Annatar laughed. "Speak to me not of love." Annatar's voice became progressively darker. Auruiron felt fear grow in his heart."Don't you dare..."Auruiron felt greater internal pain. Annatar laughed."Speak to me not of Truth!" Auruiron yelled. "I warn thee!" Annatar then yelled."Speak to me not of honor and duty!" Annatar holds then up a series of texts upon his right hand. Auruiron then yelled."Traitor to the Noldor, murderer! Long...have...I..
.awaited...this...moment!"

Then Annatar transformed into a towering Dark Lord, who is none other than Morgoth himself. Morgoth then spoke
darkly. "Doom shall fall upon thee!" Auruiron dared to defy the evil standing in front of him. His pride became aroused, as if all his anger and grief, had become unleashed in one fell swoop."Extinguisher of Laurelin, jail-crow of Mandos, causer of Oath and despair, I will hinder thee! For I am as motionless and enthroned in the highest stars of the firmament! Feanaro, I will avenge thee!" Auruiron and Morgoth dueled, but then Morgoth transformed, his Crown became taller and enclosed about his face, and a golden Ring etched with fiery letters appeared on his finger.

Sauron brought the One Ring close to Auruiron's face. "As Celebrimbor perished to my spear, so shall ye fall as well! Where is thy friend now, for I will strangle the life out of him!" Auruiron continued to fight, but he becomes more weary. Finally, Sauron then transformed into his true antagonist, Guldrambor. Guldrambor, who had toyed with his mind. Guldrambor, who seized control of his very dreams. The antagonists advanced. Guldrambor transformed into the form of Makalaure once more. Alqualonde, Sirion, Eregion, Nenuial, and Mithlond all appeared then one and the same. The imposter then did leap into battle, and Auruiron followed suit. Their swords clashed, the Crimson One against the Black Foe, and he felt empowered. Auruiron then realized his peril. He was beginning to enjoy himself too much. Guldrambor's laughter was driving him step by step to breaking his Affirmation.
Yet then Auruiron dared to defy his plan. "I pity you." Guldrambor's facedropped in agony. Guldrambor then grabbed Auruiron by the shoulders,
and pulled himself close to him.

Then Auruiron stood in shock. His blade penetrated Guldrambor in the stomach. The darkness departed the eyes of his foe, and Guldrambor collapsed in Auruiron's arms. Auruiron then realizes that his wounds, were the same Guldrambor had received from him in Nenuial. Auruiron knelt. He looked down in horror. For there within his arms was Makalaure, as if sleeping, in his grasp.

He turned violent in his thoughts, and began to Sing:

"~I attempt to grasp and yet I falter~
~The Night is dark and old~
~Ere I stand before the Void~
~From a world of night now cold ~
~I will flee now from Arda thence~
~From the Oath that is a lie~
~There is no place I can go~
~My soul it shall now die!~"

Then Auruiron ran up to the precipice, and dove off into the Abyss. His life, his memories, everything flashes before him. For he could live with himself no more. Yet ere his body collapsed into the Sea, he found himself back in Minas Noldorion. His chamber in Minas Noldorion surrounded him. His sheets were wrought with sweat. His body shook Before him stood Guldrambor yet again. He had not yet left the vision. Auruiron protested. "I dreamed this. It was not my choice. I affirm I am not the One. I affirm Truth, for I pity you, despite all that you have done. My Oath remains unbroken, for my intention remains now true."Guldrambor laughed. "Thou fool, I wilt destroy thee! My blade and not a mere statement! Yet thou wilt die by other means..."

Then he vanished, him, the manifestation of his grief and fear.
