Can you think of any? Or are they all pretty much conventional straight chicks? Some of them are very good looking so it'd be nice if they were into women.

A guy I worked with has a lesbian best friend who was a competitive figure skater...by the way he spoke of her, she at least had very advanced training. I didn't ask her name, so I don't know if any of her competitions have been aired on national TV, etc. But I'm just relaying this little story to demonstrate that it's not impossible.

I know lesbians don't exist in Korea but I think Kim Yuna is gay.
And the little skater girl who was in her show too.

I'm sure there are lesbian competetive skaters. Skating appears very girly, but it is very physically demanding.

I used to skate, competed as a kid, picked gymnastics over it, though when it became impossible to do both.
I'm probably not the only lesbian ever to skate.

But the coach is honestly much more normal. She doesn't have crazy eyes.

I'm a lesbian who figured skated too. I wore the dresses to compete, but I'm actually quite tomboyish. I saw skating as my sport, and I've always preferred individual sports to team sports. I'm not out to anyone I used to ice skate with, mostly because I'm no longer in touch with them.

she doesn't ping at all, even after seeing her in that sexy tux.
if she is, then the whole nation of korea would be turned upside down. being a les would be a popular trend since yuna is worshiped there.

Haha, in Margaret Cho's I'm The One That I Want, she does a hilarious impression of her mother telling her that there are "gay people all around the world...BUT NOT IN KOREA!!"

I had actually heard this from a former skating coach of mine, too. That Katarina Witt, and also Rosalyn Sumners, were both gay back in the 80s. I think Rosalyn Sumners is married to a man now though.

Would love to know some gossip on any of the current crop of skaters (Tessa Virtue, anyone?? ), but I've got nothing useful there.

I can believe that about Rosalynn. I remember wondering about her sexuality after seeing some skating special....

I just had a look at a yt video of her 1984 Olympic LP and she looks so cute ^_^ . And young.

Yes, she's married to a man now, but they dated for an awfully long time (15 years) before getting married....Hmmmm

There are of course lesbian skaters...
But I think skating is a little bit like soccer:
Lesbian+soccer=ok and gay+skater=ok BUT nobody wants to see a gay soccer player or a lesbian figure skater....
I'm a lesbian skater, but not out to my friends, because they will react strange...even if they are on the outside oke with gays....

There are probably lesbians in figure skating but since they are all rather feminine, you can be sure they are deep in the closet. As usual, only tomboy/butch-like athletes "can" be recognized as gay, never the feminine ones. :( One can be ultra-feminine and still gay.

I kind of wonder about Tessa Virtue but I never heard anything so far.

I guess it's kind of like gymnastics in a way. No female in gymnastics would ever dare to come out...sadly.

My ice skating coach had a lot of friendships with gay men, just because there are so many in figure skating, but she was Republican and homophobic. She almost never mentioned lesbians, and when she did it was in a very disparaging way.

I'm sure things are better now - this was 10-15 years ago. But ice skating will always be a conservative sport.

I heard rumors about Stephanie Stiegler back in the '90s but don't know of they're true. She was a US pairs medalist. This is an old photo of her with her pairs partner. Posted Image

Why do I have a vague memory of Sasha Cohen once having a thread on The L Chat? I just did a search and couldn't find it, probably a victim of The Great Wipe.

Sasha did have a thread once upon a time.

Anyone ever hear of Sasha having a boyfriend? She doesn't necessarily ping for me, but an almost 30-year-old woman with no boyfriend is unusual.
