Lief! <3 (and powerful!)
She sighed, thoroughly irritated. 'Alright then. I will not disturb him by knocking on the door.' She turned about, feeling restless.

Eiluned bowed her head and turned on her heel. There were still so many tasks to do. She heaved a sigh before squaring her shoulders and striding to the kitchen to give orders for Tudwrig's diet.

After her tasks in the washingroom, Braegne was on her way back to Briallen's room with an armful of clean laundry. When she almost walked into Briallen herself, she quickly apologized. 'Is there something wrong?' Braegne asked carefully after a searching look on Briallen's face.

'It's my husband. He's ill. I...Eiluned says I can't see him. That he has bolted the door.'

Braegne bit her lip. 'Is it that bad?' she asked quietly, praying to the gods that the herbal draught wouldn't be the cause of the sudden relapse in illness.

'I don't know, do I?' she said, but softly. 'You know what happened last night. He..practically sent me away. Oh, he was sweet about it.' She shook her head. 'It must be bad, or else he would not lock the door. I just wish Eiluned...oh, no, I should not say this.'

It was certainly terrifying, a disease that could disappear and reappear just like that. And it wasn't doing much good for Briallen's nerves, by the looks of it. 'He locked himself in? But how is he going to eat if he won't let anyone to see him?'

Briallen shook her head, walking slowly to her own chambers. There was some embroidery she could do, she imagined. A whole day with needle and yarn...She did not look forward to it. 'I don't know. Maybe he is too sick to eat. All the same...'

Braegne started making the beds while listening to Briallen. 'I guess Eiluned knows what she's doing,' she muttered. 'Perhaps we could ride together, if you want. The weather is too nice to stay pent up inside, and it will be winter before long.'

'That might be a good idea. I hope it will be allowed. Caer March is not Shadow Well; I keep being reminded of that. Though it seems safe enough. But really, Braegne, I just want to see him for a bit. Even if it is just to make sure he is doing alright in bed.' She swallowed.

'Perhaps he will have unlocked the door later in the day,' she suggested with what she hoped to be a reassuring smile. 'Let's take your mind of it for now, Briallen. All that worrying can't be good for you. Shall I go ask Eiluned if we can ride?'

'Alright,' she said, her mind only half on the question.

Aeronwy sighed and prayed silently to the goddess that she had interpreted the sign correctly. This man did not seem all too serious about divine powers, or Aeronwy self.
"That seems like a good idea," she replied softly. She removed the cloth from her arm; the bleeding had stopped already. She thanked the goddess for the healing, which had always been fast on these occasions, and put the cloth back in her back. It needed to be washed, but it could wait until they reached the two people she, no, they, were tracking.
"Let's get going then, shall we?"

Braegne finished changing the sheets and walked off quickly to find Eiluned. The older woman was in the courtyard giving orders to the men on the carts with supplies. She silently waited until Eiluned was finished and posed the question.
'If you do not lose sight of the castle on your trip, I don't see why not,' Eiluned answered in a slightly weary tone. Braegne wondered what was bothering her, but simply thanked her and went back to Briallen.

'I follow your every lead,' Cuhelyn said grandly and fell in step next to her. She was a curious girl, he thought. Stalking people by orders of a goddess - that was just a little more disturbing than stalking people just like that. He himself had never received any divine sign, let alone orders to do something concrete. Oh well.

"Yes, you shall," Aeronwy replied without hesitation, not even blinking. If he also carried a sign of the goddess, she would have to lead him to the other two, in order to trigger whatever the goddess had planned to happen. She really doubted his faith, anyway, but she was not the one to judge him. Perhaps this was a test for him as well.

'I've been thinking,' Briallen said upon Braegne's return. 'We'll on on this ride. After that I'd like a bath to clean myself up and then I will look in to Tudwrig. Surely Eiluned cannot be the messager of his ills for the rest of our marriage. That would be too ridiculous.'

'I quite agree,' Braegne said. 'But it must be hard for her, too. She looked ever so worried just now.' She shrugged her shoulders and started getting Briallen's riding clothes out.

He licked his lips. She'd evidentally not heard the mocking in his voice, but he wasn't going to enlighten her. It would be too difficult to explain a man's joke to a woman, anyway. 'So, Aeronwy... Where are you from? Before you embarked on this grand quest?'

Aeronwy glanced at him quickly, and turned her head again.
"I do not think that information is vital for what you refer to as 'this grand quest'," she replied. "But, if you would like to engage in a social conversation with me anyway, feel free to speak about yourself."

When they rode out, Briallen was glad she had taked her cloak. The summer was ending and it was a bit chilly. Dark clouds hovered in the sky, not quite spilling rain, not quite assuring her that they would not.

Braegne wasn't quite sure what to talk about with Briallen. She could see she was worried and wanted to take her mind of things, but it was difficult to find a subject that wouldn't lead to her marriage in one way or the other. 'There are so few people living here,' she said eventually. 'I wonder why.'

The first words that jumped to his mind were you're insane, but he contained himself and instead decided she had his life's story coming to her. 'All right. I used to be a highwayman and I rob people for the fun of it. In my career I have killed quite a few unweary travellers such as yourself and even though I'm currently thinking of switching jobs, old habits die hard.' Cuhelyn scratched his beard

Aeronwy wondered what she was supposed to say now. She was not at all interested in the career of a bandit, although the killings did intrigue her. Perhaps the blood on his hands had caught the attention of the goddess. After all, she was the goddess of war. Maybe she had sent Aeronwy a warrior? But for what reason? Aeronwy sighed and shook her head. This was getting more complicated by the second.
"What job are you considering, then?" she eventually asked, curious if he'd continue being, although not aware of it, a servant of her goddess.

They were riding along the hillside now. She could see the white horse, but it was less obvious than it had been from Tudwrig's window. 'He said there used to be a settlement here at Caer March at least. But that was in his grandfather's time. Perhaps the Romans chased them away.' It was hardly a good explanation; mostly the Romans just left them to mind their own business.

'I've no idea yet,' he shrugged. 'I'll see when the opportunity presents itself.' He looked down at the tracks, pushing a bush aside. They were getting harder to follow - there were a lot of leaves laying on the ground here.

'Well, whatever the cause, it's awefully quiet here,' Braegne remarked. 'Though I guess it is a nice change from all the hustle in the bigger settlements.'

Briallen nodded again, thinking about Shadow Well. 'I do want to visit the nearest settlement sometime soon. The people should get a chance to know who's their chieftain's wife. New wife.'

'Perhaps the lord will have recovered from his illness in a couple of days, with you to look after him now. Nothing can beat a wife's touch, my mother used to say.' Braegne smiled reassuringly at Briallen.

'Agreed.'
They rode home. 'Can you prepare the bath for me?' she asked.

Braegne nodded and set about preparing the bath, getting hot water from the kitchen to fill the tub with and tying some dried herbs into a linen bag for soaking purposes. When the bath was filled, she tested the temperature with her hand and gave a nod. 'Everything's ready, Briallen,' she said as she shook out a soft towel and draped it over the small stool near the tub.

She had her bath long enough to feel that she had not wasted the warm water. Her hair was freshly washed and dried up in curls that fell over her shoulders. She changed into a clean dress and took a deep sigh. 'I'm going to see Tudwrig, if he has unlocked the door. I'll bring the herbal draught and a small plate of food. Could you get it form me, Braegne? It's silly, but I feel that Eiluned might want to stop me if she finds out..'

'Hm.' Deception had not been her plan. She was mistress after all, there should be no need at all. 'Well, if she happens to be around, you might chat about some things or another.' She smiled briefly.

Braegne laughed and folded the towel, after which she went down the corridor and into the kitchen to get some light food and the herbal drink. With these in her hands, she went back to Briallen and handed the plate and the cup to her. 'Bring him my best wishes for his recovery,' she said.
