He moved about the room, casting glances at people. 'The Romans,' he finally managed to sound fairly casual to one man, 'Have they been long around here?' The man snorted in disapproval. 'Fairly. Will stay a while, I think.' Dobunni, Rhywallon thought bitterly. Their willingness to accept a foreign yuke was sickening. |

After paying the innkeeper, the boy carried the bags to their room, leaving Gwenllian to go back to Rhywallon. 'There was only one room left, the others are occupied. Mostly by Romans,' she told him quietly. Romans made her nervous, that was for sure. |

'I wasn't planning on going anywhere near them,' she muttered and sat down at one of the few free tables. 'The food will be here shortly. When did you want to visit the market?' |

'...I have to rearrange my planning a bit. I will inform you of everything when that's done.' He sat down. This must be odd to her, he realized. |

She blinked. 'Oh. Well, I could go to the market alone just as well,' she suggested just as the maid arrived with two plates of food. Gwenllian slipped the girl a few coins and pulled one of the plates towards her. - Cuhelyn chewed on some berries he had picked while crouched behind a bush to yet again avoid the glances the girl kept throwing over her shoulder. He was going to have to announce his presence soon though, because if he didn't, his stomach most definitely would give him away. |

Aeronwy had been walking for several hours now, and she still hadn't caught up with them yet. She didn't lose her courage, though, but she was feeling a little tired. There had been no signs of their presence, and she wondered if she was still going in the right direction. Suddenly she stopped, and fell on her knees. She put her hands flat on the ground, digging her fingers in to the mud, and bowed her head. Maybe the goddess was angry with her because she'd forgotten her prayer! Quickly she started to mutter the proper words, silently adding a prayer for forgiveness. |

He blinked when she fell down on her knees. Had she tripped, fallen? Cuhelyn cocked his head and retreated behind a tree. It didn't look like she'd fallen by accident, though. Then he caught some of her mutterings and emitted a very silent 'oh', hardly more than a breath. She was praying. Well, of course. Girls pray all the time in dark, dangerous forests, he guessed. |

When Aeronwy was almost finished with her prayer, she noticed there was still no sign of the goddess. Was she still displeased with her? Aeronwy decided to take no risks and took precautions. She reached for her belt, grabbing a small, crescent-shaped dagger that she used for these occasions. The hilt felt comfortable and steady in her hand, and she calmed down a little. Stretching her left arm, she put the blade on the inside of her elbow, and closed her eyes. Fast and steady, she made a clean cut, small enough not to pass out, but big enough to make the blood drip on the ground, pressing her lips together. "Carnage River, accept this sacrifice of my unworthy blood," she said loudly, not even whimpering at the pain in her arm. "My blood and body belong to you, to use it at your will." |

Now that was just a little weird. Not to mention stupid, hurting yourself like that in a forest like this. Cuhelyn couldn't help but feel a little responsible for his stalkee. So he stepped away from the tree and cleared his throat. 'Oi, girlie,' he started. He'd have used her name if he'd known it. 'Sorry to interrupt and all, but I don't think that's an alltogether smart thing to be doing...' |

"Be quiet!" Aeronwy hissed, her eyes still closed. "Do not interrupt the ritual! Do you have a death wish or what?" She did not know who it was, but she was sure it was a male and males were not allowed to take part in a blood ritual. The goddess was only served by female blood. She put the dagger back and finished off the ritual with the usual words and gestures. |

'I don't, looks like you do, though,' Cuhelyn muttered and leaned against a tree, waiting for the girl to finish. On second thoughts, he should've continued his stalking, but it was too late for that now. Oh well. |

Aeronwy finally opened her eyes and rose. She grabbed a piece of cloth she carried with her for this purpose, and pressed it against the wound. Now it was up to the goddess to show her either grattitude or wrath. She turned around and faced the intruder. It was a male, like she'd assumed, blond and bearded. "Why did you interrupt me?" she asked. Or rather, demanded to know. "Do you not know a holy ritual when you see one?" |

'More importantly, I know a silly girl when I see one. Don't you know these forests are infested with all sorts of scum of the earth?' Cuhelyn answered lightly, failing to mention that he'd been one of those pieces of scum till rather recently. |

"A silly girl?" Aeronwy breathed heavily out of her nose. "I would say you're the silly one here, trying to call off the wrath of the goddess upon yourself!" |

This was just his luck, picking a religious madwoman to follow. Well, nothing to be done about that now. 'Yeah, I do apologize. Why are you following those other two, anyway? Goddess tell you that, eh?' |

"As a matter of fact, yes, she did," she replied quite annoyed. His apology didn't really help to calm her temper. "And why are you interested in the ways of the goddess? Aren't you following the two people too?" |

'I was following you, actually,' Cuhelyn grinned. 'What's your name, girlie?' He pushed himself away from the tree and looked her up and down. She was a little dirty, but not really ugly or anything. That goddess of hers... he wondered what was up with that. He'd made a joke, but apparently it was reality. |

"Following...What? Why?" Confusion pushed away the anger she'd felt earlier. "Why would you be following me?" He walked up to her and stared at her, which made her feel quite uncomfortable. "My name is Aeronwy," she answered, even more confused. What did this man want from her? Was he the sign the goddess had sent her? No, it couldn't be... |

'For the heck of it.' Cuhelyn made an extravagant bow. 'I'm Cuhelyn. Where are you headed, or are you simply following that big bloke and his girlfriend?' |

Aeronwy blinked. A bow? And what a peculiar name. "Well, a pleasure to meet you, Cuhelyn," she replied out of courtesy. "I'm headed for the Vale of the White Horse, but I'm making the effort of following those two, because they carry a sign of the goddess." |

'Do they, now,' he said mildly. His stomach growled, but he staunchly ignored it. 'So, you're going to the Vale, hm? I'll go with you.' Cuhelyn grinned. The Vale was as good a place as any, despite the rumours he'd heard. |

Aeronwy raised an eyebrow. She wholeheartedly doubted the fact that this was possibly a sign the goddess sent her. But who was she to disobey the orders given to her? She just had to carry them out, she concluded with a sigh. So be it. "I shall consider your company as a blessing from the goddess," Aeronwy said, trying not to look or sound ironic. "It will be an honor to have you with me, mister Cuhelyn." |

At that, Cuhelyn burst out laughing. 'You do that, girlie - ah, I mean, Aeronwy. Come on, then. Let's catch up with your Goddess-y signed people.' He cocked his head and looked at the tracks. They were kind of difficult to see, or would be for untrained eyes. - Eiluned was just about to open the door to Tudwrig's room when she heard the heavy breathing and the low growl. A deep frown appeared in her forehead. So the herbal drinks had finally lost their hold on the curse. Even though she had suspected it, it was bad news. And keeping Briallen from his room would be a challenge. |

Briallen had her breakfast quietly. By the time she had finished, more people were about. She took Braegne for a little walk around the castle, though she made sure not to go far. She wanted to be fit when Tudwrig took her riding. If he would. After a while, she went back inside, looking for Eiluned. |

She quickly descended the staircase and almost walked into Briallen. 'Ah, my lady,' she said with a quick bow. 'I was just looking for you. Lord Tudwrig is having one of his attacks. It... it seems to be more severe than before, and he does not wish to see anyone.' |

Eiluned shook her head. 'I knocked on his door to see if he was awake, but he refused to open. When I asked whether he was all right or wanted something, I did not get an answer. I thought it best to leave him for the time being.' |

She thought of the man that was her husband, alone after last night's uncomfortable ending. The room had been so dark already. 'I wish to see him,' she said, making the decision. 'I'll bring some light breakfast and the herbal draught. If he doesn't want to talk to me, I'll simply slip in and put it beside his bed.' |

'I'm afraid that's not possible,' she said quietly. 'He has bolted the door from the inside. But don't worry, my lady, there will be enough fresh air. When I was out in the courtyard I saw that the shutters of his window were open.' Even though Eiluned had been the one to lock Tudwrig's door, she couldn't tell Briallen. She wanted to keep her safe for as long as possible. |
