KHL ON TSN WELCOMES YOU TO PHILADELPHIA

JD: Welcome to Broad Street at the Wells Fargo Center as we see the famous Rocky statue. I'm joined here by panelists Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger, and guest panelist Sharks General Manager JS, as we get set to assess The Flyers' drafting and any trades that might have gone down. JS what did you think of GM Lonewolfe's drafting?

JS: As we may all know, from the 70's onwards, the Flyers had placed a big emphasis on physicality and offense, and hence why they were known as the Broad Street Bullies, because they weren't going to let their teammates be messed around by enforcers and the like. But with General manager Lonewolfe at the helm, this team has an identity of skill and elegance rather than blood and physicality. He's managed to create a great top-9. I also like the goaltending duo with Quick and Pavelec (who by the way, had 50 save performances, so it should tell you he is NOT an easy goalie). This team has got the potential to possibly challenge the Blackhawks for the Joe Sakic Trophy in the Sakic Conference Finals.

Nash - Malkin - B. Ryan
Eriksson - P. Bergeron - Brown
Hanzal - Weiss - Horton
Burmistrov - M. Johansson - B. Sutter

Suter - Pietrangelo
Seabrook - Kulikov
Blum - Alzner

Quick/Pavelec

BMK: Now that's where I'll have to disagree with that JS, The mantra in sports is "Defense wins championships," and the Philadelphia Flyers' case their number 1 defender is Ryan Suter. Without a physical presence, this team will have it hard against teams like Colorado, San Jose, Chicago, to name a few. I'd be a little worried that this d-core is this young and without a physical veteran leader, who can also put the puck in the net. Defense could pose problems down the road during the regular season.

DD: And speaking of defense, there were sources indicating that Lonewolfe was one of many teams interested in Duncan Keith (who of course was lost to Colorado) and Drew Doughty. I also spoke to general managers and they stated that LW's asking price for defensemen were preposterous at best, and laughable at worst. However I am hearing that the Flyers could be interested in shifting Evgeni Malkin if it meant having a balanced team and could garner interest from San Jose, Colorado, Nashville, Chicago, as well as Hartford. It will be interesting to see of Lonewolfe can acquire a number 1 defenseman to bolster his roster prior to the start of regular season.

JD: And JS how do you see this team performing during the regular season?

JS: I think with their spotty defense, and stellar offense, we could see this team going from the last KHL playoffs spot to 2nd and maybe even 1st place in the Sakic Conference challenging GM Broomers' Chicago Blackhawks. If their defense plays like Beer League Defense...well, that could be a different story.

JD: And that ends the Philadelphia assessment here at Broad Street. Tune in Next time on KHL on TSN as we get set to head to Hartford as we assess InNet's Hartford Whalers. Back to you Dutchy.
