Nashville Predators GM
|
1. Chicago (n/a) - With one loss as the only blemish, and a GM that constantly tinkers with his team (read as tradewhore), Chicago retains top spot. 2. Buffalo (+4) - A near perfect start has last years basement team tied atop the standings. With guys like Iginla, Gomez, Tavares, and Fleury playing well, a potential threat to dethrone Chicago. 3. Dallas (+8) - A big surprise due to the success of their offense and their goaltending. Tied for league lead in goals for, and tied with Buffalo in the standings. Consistent play could make them the underdog hero this year. 4. Las Vegas (+1) - Excellent start to the season followed by a small slump. Hard to argue with an offense that not only has done well, but also added Evgeni Malkin to the mix. Improvements to defense and a quality 1-2 goalie combo make them a threat. 5. Detroit (-1) - Slow start led to changes (trading for Jaroslav Halak and Patrick Marleau) and some recent success. Given the talent on the roster, if they can score more consistently and Halak keeps them in games, they won't fight for a playoff spot. 6. Washington (+3) - Had one of the most surprising starts, and the chemistry between Duchene and Ovechkin hasn't faded from last season. A team that could have gone either way is currently playing well offensively. Hot and cold streaks by this team could lead anywhere from top spot to missing the playoffs. 7. Hartford (-5) - While their anemic start had some people (JS) calling for GM InNet's head or a firesale, the Whalers' head Honcho has just tweeked his team. From the looks of it, the adjustments are working. Always a threat to make a big splash. Defensive area still the teams biggest weakness. 8. Columbus (+5) - Has only scored 6 goals, and is 1/9 on the powerplay, but still has 3 wins. Adding Getzlaf was a plus, but the question regarding the offensive potential of this team could lead to another basement dwelling this season. Will either need goaltending to stay hot, or offense to catch fire to maintain pace. 9. Toronto (-1) - While their powerplay has done well for them, and they started 2-0-1, the Leafs have dropped two straight. They have the potential to be better, but will need to pick up even strength play to reach that level. General manager JS could have some questions on his hands about depth if Toronto finds themselves on the outside looking in at any point. 10. Philadelphia (-7) - While this team currently sits at 1-1-3, there are a couple of things to be said. Talent level suggests an early slump reminiscent of last years Colorado team. If GM Loney can find the right mix of lines and tweeks, could be just a footnote to a great season. Should the Flyers' woes continue, then Philadelphia could be in store for changes. 11. Montreal (+1) - Has been a tough team to play so far this season, and Patrick Kane has been lethal on the powerplay. The talent is there to challenge for a playoff spot, but with out a set in stone general manager, this team may lack the ability to make the changes it needs for a final push. Will need everyone currently on-board to play to their highest levels. 12. Colorado (-6) - Dustin Brown has been providing the offense, and Joe Thornton and Zach Parise are coming around, but two losses to ATL and NJD have many questioning Colorado's place. Being good against quality teams, and bad against the lessers may only mean Colorado will be a spoiler team this year and not a repeat champion. 13. New Jersey (+2) - Another team with defense winning them games. Roberto Luongo has proven the ability to steal games, but the offense hasn't provided anything. If Luongo has a bad week or month, they may find themselves at the bottom of the league. 14. Atlanta (+2) - Earning 5 points has been a surprise, and their core players have done well, but this team still has a lot to prove. Just like CBJ, NJD, and QUE, consistency will be the biggest key to their success. Slowly working their way into peoples minds as a legitimate threat, but may never fully make it. 15. Ottawa (-5) - While their offense and powerplay have impressed, they still find themselves with only 4 points. It is early in the season, and they should finish ahead of many other teams, but right now they have underperformed. 2nd worst ranking wont last long, but they will need to prove they belong in the top ten and not the bottom 6. 16. Quebec (-2) - Someone had to finish last, and that is currently Quebec. Temporary general manager Kragok has made some moves for this team (both good and bad), and they are only points behind a playoff spot. Early to tell if they will perform above expectations, but for right now they fit the mold of a bottom 5 team. |
