Alright, so I'm working out in my mind what the season is going to look like, and there's lots of issues we need to address. 1) How long will season last and how many games in a season? 2a) Do we do one large division or two smaller ones? 2b) If we do smaller divisions, everyone plays each other equally or more games within divisions? 3) Will there be a trade deadline, and if so then when? 4) How will playoffs be structured? Will all 12 teams get in or say just 8? 5) Will we schedule in things like tournaments, all star games, etc or just do those whenever? 6) How many rounds will the prospect draft be? and many more issues we haven't thought of yet. So feel free to post thoughts here, and expect many different polls/questions to appear in the future. |

1 & 2) I think if we kept one big division as there's only 12 of us. 2 home, 2 away would see 44 games each, right? We can play round of fixtures, bi-weekly? 3) Yes, 30 game mark? 4) I'd say just 8. 5) Just whenever, at the simmer's discretion. 6) 7, like the NHL entry draft or 10 so we each have a top 10 prospect pool? Fleshing out points 1 and 2, this is kinda how the Swiss league works. One big division of 12, top 8 make the play-offs. 2 home, 2 away works well and fairly and we could sim 2 rounds of fixtures per week between the simmers (maybe midweek and a weekend day?) Simming and division stuff work for me. Schedule wouldn`t be too hard as we are looking to keep season spread out to match NHL one anyways me thought. |

Alright a couple of things to consider. First off after seeing a number of shootouts, I must say I'm not a fan. Elite players just skate in and deke with no shot, or they fire straight at the goalie. Hence why there's usually 1 scorer per shootout so far. Lecavalier's shootout goal was merely him deking the puck through the goalie's fivehole without a shot. The other potential issue is with the scoring. Been low scoring mostly with a lot of shutouts. I sim on the highest difficulty as Kragok started last time. If everyone is cool with the scoring, (and hopefully uping sim time from 5 to 7-8 min periods will add a little), then that shall remain. If people want to Bettman it up (read as increase scoring), then I can drop the difficulty down a level. So two points for discussion below: 1. Shootout for season sims: keep it or continious/only one OT 2. Keep difficulty level (and scoring) as is or drop it a level and see if scoring increases. |

Continuous OT would be a lot more epic...imagine the 7OT games as for 2) as stated in Mock Draft...maybe Hardcore All-Star makes a difference? |

I'd say keep the difficulty the same. As for the Shootouts it's whatever you guys want. I kinda wish the real nhl would drop the shootout(and my fav. team has wolski so that's saying something), so I wouldn't mind seeing it either way here. |

Well I can test out the hardcore difficulty on round 4 here, but with increased time in other boards games, scoring went up. So we shall see. As for the shootout, I'm just not a fan of how it looks on the game. Single OT or continuous works for me. |

would single OT lead to a tie for the extra point on both teams? |

Potentially it could. Especially since OT is done as 5 minutes and that's not normal speed until the last 2 or so. Drawback of continuous is potentially 2-4 OTs taking up a lot of time. Though for a season it might not be so bad. Other thing I was thinking was if we had to do shootout, just quit game and go into shootout on a lower difficulty. Untested idea, but could produce better results. |

well whenever we decide exhibitions are done and we start the season, we just need to line up the schedule so that it ends at the same time the real one does. I think we can get 50 games in if mut gets some help. I can't at the moment since I don't have a way to play nhl10. |

Well time isn't much of a problem right now. The longer we decide to make sims, the few games I can do a day. I liked Bizzle's previous idea of playing each team 4 times. 44 games is simple enough, and even if the schedule is as simple as playing teams 1-11 and then repeating the same order, that's fine by me. If someone wants to work out a schedule for starting next Tues, I can start the season then. |

Does anybody remember what s1905 used to make a schedule on the other boards? that seemed pretty easy. |

Not sure about the schedule, but as for NHL2k10, that doesn't bother me. |

Hmmm...Single OT (20mins) and Tie would work well since a 7OT game is going to be too long |

Well I may try a few games with no shootout and see how it goes. This shouldn't be a big issue come season. Just need a schedule and we can get it started. |

I remember s19 using some kind of randomizer to fix up the schedule albeit it was sometimes unrealistic (for ex. I had a doubleheader with San Jose..like directly after my first game I had another) |

I used a program called splendid city scheduler. It's actually a really nice program, I'm going to be using it for record keeping as well. |
