-HNIC- Posts: 4,051 Group: Proprietor Member #1 Joined: July 16, 2008	ay family, I'm working on a new theme for the board (yup, mr adhd is at it again) the west has been deleted because it was too plain and too much like the others - so hover over your preferences+theme and select "test" - it's still very much a WIP and I'm pretty much just experimenting atm.. but let me know whatcha think there's been a lot of new scripts added to give this place a lil more user friendlyism and visual stim .. oh, speaking of that, ~~the next person to read this, hit me up via PM, I want to see if the dock box interferes with the PM pop-up~~ edit- thx threep, all works well ;)

-HNIC- Posts: 4,051 Group: Proprietor Member #1 Joined: July 16, 2008	ye, I'll do a new banner if I keep it... idk, it all depends on how it turns out, as it is, it seems I can't change the opacity of certain areas without the entire area changing opacity - for example, I'd like to have the font 100% opaque while the BG at 75 - either way, these boards rock when it comes to customizing, they're fun to fuck with :hehe:

-HNIC- Posts: 4,051 Group: Proprietor Member #1 Joined: July 16, 2008	why do I keep posting in here? cuz I don't wanna bump the merry holidays post off the portal (just in case you were wondering) - k, so here's where we're at... I had a reputable outsider from ZB (zetaboards) come in and review our board- this was a professional review and it's graded on various levels and is broke down into several categories.. we had plenty of high marks- points for originality and unique forum content (WnT, 2d, 3d and it seems we're about the only ones rockn the south skin :) ) - we got good grades on our member posts and member count as well as staff numbers - how we have things set up gave us high points as well (name-chop shop, staffers-shop manager/shop staff, categories-garage/paint booth/accessories, ect) however, we got our bad marks to... he didn't like our banner, mainly because it had no hint or theme of what it is we do here- the categories in his opinion could have been lessened by consolidating all gta content into one category (but he don't know us too well lol) and the experimental WIP skin I had going on, he straight hated lol- said it gave him a headache because of the transparency :hehe: but for some reason, he said it was assigned as his default skin after signing in ...which is complete bullshit, everyone here knows the south skin is our default skin and probably always will be anywayz, this really has nothing to do with much of anything, but I thought it'd be different to get an outsiders thoughts.. so it was all gravy - after reading his review, I decided to change a few things (all minor) - I've deleted the experimental skin because I can just experiment with a ZB original np, and I don't need peeps stumbling onto it and leaving a bad taste in their mouths - I brought over the bad ass trick shadows from that skin tho (you'll see it when you kats get FF 3.1, or just peep the pic below) - I've gotten rid of a few scripts, including the fade script (he didn't like that 1 either, said it created too much lag when changing pages) and I've created a new banner that I feel is more oriented towards our overall theme so here's an image of what the forum looks like to me, and what it will look like to you when you get FF 3.1 ;) Posted Image with all that bullshit said, I hope you enjoi the updates and refinements :)

It has to be pragmatic and organized, therefore easy to find and sort things, not beautiful or compressed for better looking and "in deep"-ness. b) who gives a fuck about the banner? For sure, I never notice banners in forums, because today in most professional forums the CONTENT is important, and on the banner's place might be AD's banners, not forums related banners (and I repeat: who really cares?) Example: Carbongear. I wish I could blend out that banner there. I don't need it, it steals too much place from content, I hate it to scroll all the way down to the parts which count. Our banner is ok and small, even the old one, which - in my eyes - aren't really important to be theme- or content-orientated. Its eyecandy, even if there were naked women, it would make more sense and customers, than theme-related stuff :P But over all, in my eyes banners are overrated kids stuff. Might be because I know lots of professionals who think this way, so do I. c) why do I get that smell on my tongue .. somewhat like .. dunno .. "who has the niciest front yard arrangement" .. Nah really, its all about content, its about community, its about actuality and freshness, its about technical functions which work and make sense. That can't be anyhow expressed in good marks/bad marks, thats expressed in the count of customers which stay and revisit the page. Organisation, a clear sorting and dividing in important categories, all that points we fulfill here on KCS in a manner which GTA deserves and brings us practical benefits. A 10 seconds look on the banner, with hint or without, fades away in insifignicance and casuality. My point of view :P
