hey, iv been reading lots of different pages in the shop lately, seeing lots of cool stuff i wanna try, but my question is,, WTF is baking textures? and how, if at all, can i do this using zmodeler2 ? any information would be a big big help |

No, u need Max to do it It's simply how u create realistic textures using a 3D model, shadows and such

Here's what a baked texture looks like on a car: http://devblog.ctdp.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/pc_ifm09_1.jpg It's basically a body texture that has all shadows on it. It used to be real helpful when making SA mods because SA doesn't have the same shadows as IV. |

It can still be helpful because most if not all games don't have self-shadowing, at least not at a level that would produce the results you see in KG's example. You just have to be careful not to overdo it. These pre-baked shadows have to be subtle, otherwise they will look unnatural in certain time-of-day/lighting conditions. Here's how Project Cars uses a similar technique to get realistic shadows: ![]()
