you're 12 steps away from creating a bad ass rim... lets get to it... 1] create a tube with the same amount of segs and sides as seen in the pic 2] next, tab over to your modifier panel, then right click in your sub-object window and select convert to + editable poly - select all of the exterior polys and delete them 3] select the entire middle row of verts and move them to the right or left exactly matching the row of verts on either side 4] now select the middle row of polys and scale them creating an inner lip that matches the height of the outer lip 5] select all of the polys except the ones created by the scale, then choose the smooth modifier from your sub-object modifier drop down - check the auto smooth option and right click in the sub-object window, select collapse all and on the pop-up hit ok 6] now create a cylinder, think ahead, if you want a five star rim, you'll need a number of segs divisible by 5 - convert it to editable poly and select all of the polys except the ones that make up the face and delete them - now click the align button in the upper right corner of Max's UI, then left click on the outer rim and the two will be perfectly aligned with each other 7] select an evenly spaced number of polys and delete those as well 8] ^ there and here, you can do pretty much w/e you want, it's up to you, design it however you like - I selected the middle edges, chamfered them, deleted the polys created by the chamfer then selected the second row of middle verts and rotated them 9] when you're done with the main portion of your design, select all of the exterior edges and shift+left_click+drag along the X axis and create the rims "thickness" 10] here I've selected the middle vert, turned on soft selection in my sub-object modifier panel and I move the middle vert along the X axis giving the rim some depth 11] next, I have selected the innermost edges and moved them further along the X axis to give the rim added thickness as the spokes run into the middle 12] now I might select mesh smooth from my modifier panel to give some roundness to the edges - I would also go further with boolean cutting my lug holes, modeling lugs and I'd clean it up some, but for the most part, that's it! those are the techniques I use for every rim I create... which most of you are familiar with ![]() Click here and learn how to put your rim in game! |

Hey.. I have installed gmax, and tried to follow your tut. I stick to pic 2, I have managed to select the outer polies, but: how do I delete them? Pressing DELETE Button deletes the complete tube. ![]() regards, Threep |

whatchu doin messn with g-max doggy? I've got the links and keys to the real thing if you want 'em, they're in the toolbox - anyways, idk man, I always use EDIT+delete on the top of my UI... it might be something indigenous to g-max tho edit- I just seen in step 2, that I left out where you convert it to editable poly *fixed*
