Hey Guys, got a Question about the Chamfer tool in 3DS Max 2009. I've been making a bumper for a Nissan Leopard F31. Cutted out the form of the hole I need and then selected the edges and pressed chamfer. This is what comes out: So what to do now? I want those edges to be as smooth as possible :oo |

Only the edge has to be selected, and you have selected more, tahts why it looks like that, to be more smoother, chamfer it with bigger value and then both lines with smaller value, but im pretty sure 1 time will be enough |

Your vertexes around the hole are not connected, weld each point around your hole, cause you probably have 2 broken vertexes where you see one. Also this is not the place to ask,so will move the topic to the Tutorials section. Edited by wired, Jan 8 2012, 03:37:14 AM.

Now I can see the problem, wait a second for me to paint.. EDIT: now so. Every edge you got needs to be connected to a poly, in this case, every corner. Edited by Nik, Jan 8 2012, 04:28:21 AM.

^lmfao KOT I FREAKING LOVE YA! Every vertex as in 'the lines' needs to be connected with other 'dots' polys, as in, lines goes to dots, and when you have like this, the lines goes nowhere, they need tobe connected with the 'outer' parts like, the red lines I did between 'the dots'. |

Use the cut /vertex and connect /edge tool to make it like the picture Nik edited.

Look ithaka in Max you can just cut a hole and be done with it,you gotta plan the poly structure,in your case would be better if it been lower poly, but you can work around it like in Nik's example, also try to use 0. something values for chamfer, cause the scale of game cars is too small, and if you apply a chamfer of 1 or 2 your mesh will be messed up like in your pic. |
