Yeah, and with not so high system requirements. That would be really nice. |

I'll make you an offer you can't refuse.

It surely is not unlimited. That way it could run on any hardware. And it sure won't. Take into consideration: 21 trillion polygons, if you use one byte per polygon that's going to take 21 TBs of space. Hardware will always be limitation. Oh, and better graphics doesn't necessarily mean better game.

The technology is interesting to say the least, but you should know it's nothing new or groundbreaking. Voxel rendering has been used for years now and it is still being used in certain fields like medicine (and Minecraft ).There's also a reason why game developers choose verts and ploygons instead of this. Look at the video again. How many visual effects do you see? How many shadows are there? The whole thing looks like a 3D mario. If they ever manage to overcome these problems it will be great for games, but untill then we're stuck with polys. |

didn't you kats watch the video? the shadows demonstrated were only 2 shades - immediately after pointing that out on their own, they said that they had just optimized it for multiple shades (6:50-7:20) - they also said the game developers package will be ready for use and distributed in a few months |

To my shame I watched it @work where I had no sound... ![]() I'm not blaming them anyway, it's a hard process and they have a long way to go. And it's not going to be easy, because as they struggle with basic effects, current technology is going to advance even further. If you think about it, there's a point where we're going to care less about object details (as in the actual mesh/shape) and more about lighting and effects, because that's what makes a scene appear real. IMOGDPO I think that the next generation of consoles will bring FM3-like mashes to all games, and take us one step closer to that point ↑ |

i dont think this will be possible the next 3 years... its just too hard work, with a 24/7 hour you cannot make this island in one week.. |

Voxels have been used before in the Delta Force games, and the graphics were not really impressive, even if you can have unlimited details, voxels don't have support for the graphics effects that we use today, nor the physix, imagine crashing two of those voxel elephants, how can you calculate the crashing of a bunch of points. So don't really think this will be reality anytime. |

Yeah the technology is nothing really new. I suppose it will take quiet some time until you can use it in games since it will take a lot of power to get these "unlimited details" ingame with all the other stuff like PP, Ai, physics and the most problematic thing, animations. Maybe six to ten years, who knows. But I doubt that we will see it coming in the next time. |
