Her world was wrapped in a chrysalis of isolation; her life muffled and gagged in the thick silk of a spider's web. One eye was dead while the other eye shunned color. She only heard silence, her voice was forever quiet, and the sweet fragrance of flowers was foreign to her. Beautiful colors, soothing scents, and musical sounds were all myths. But as the gray-striped mare swept through the trees, like a gentle fog, she was not downhearted. She wouldn't let her health get in the way of her life. She was going to become a herd-mare, she was going to rise from the ashes of her broken past, and she wouldn't look back. Her red eyes were kind and hopeful. She couldn't tell if she was near a stallion's land; she couldn't pick up his scent, if there was one. But she knew her way to the Offland, and she knew that the mountainous territory was largely a safe haven against the rest of the world. She felt that she would be safe here. Here seemed like a good place to start. She had tried the Homeless once, but hadn't felt the desire to follow any of the suitors home. The albino zebra, Imagine, stepped into the Weeping Towers. Though to her, it looked like any other ordinary land. She could see the flowers and grass picking up their lives from the desolation of the Scourge, and she smiled a little bit. Though Kestrel lurked in the skies, she felt like things would be safer now. Perhaps that hope was a product of wishful thinking... but surely nothing could be as bad as the Scourge. She could remember seeing a red tide in the sky, and running for her very life. Lingering in her thoughts - almost wholly trapped in her own little world - Imagine meandered through the Weeping Towers. |

![]() lines © LadyX-LT. . . . let me out of this dream . . . As Prime rises slowly above the horizon, the glittering rays filter through the boughs of leaves that shelter where I stand. Their weak fingers fall slowly, tickling the dark lids of my eyes that flutter at their touch. Blinking away the rush of morning light, my jaws part in a wide yawn, pink tongue curling as my mind struggles to lift from the heavy fog of sleep. Not that I had gotten much, really. Unnerved by the fact that Thara had been snatched from right under my nose, I had spent most of the night wandering my territory. I couldn’t bear for it to happen again. I had taken to the borders, scouring them into the early (or late) hours of the morning. Though The Weeping Towers has a sense of sacred purity that is calming, it is that very fact (among many others, mind you) that keep me patrolling its perimeters often, wary of the possibility that another stallion might take too friendly of a liking to this hallowed place—or again the pretty mares within. By that time, when I was momentarily contented that my territory was secure, I had finally found a small cove of trees and allowed myself to be taken into sleep’s dark embrace. Only a handful of hours have passed since then, though I have long become accustomed to little rest. Dreams—or rather, a dream—has plagued me since…well, as long as I can remember. Often it wakes me in the middle of the night, leaving me with unpleasant shivers that refuse to let me slumber again (however, I had been graciously spared last night). It is only a few moments before my eyes adjust to Prime’s soft rays, and the blurry shadows of the trees come into focus as they flutter in a cool spring breeze. Lengthening my neck as I shake my faintly-striped body, I then extend a banded foreleg as I set off through the thin wood, my black tail flicking around my flanks. It isn’t long before I catch something different about this day, the dark skin of my nostrils curling as I inhale the fresh scent. Suddenly I grow cold, fearing that my mares have been plundered in the short night. Pinning my ears and dashing off with a snort, I take the time to inspect this new smell. To say the least, I feel relieved to find that it is a mare rather than a stallion, but my guard is not lowered yet. Eager to ease my worry, I head in the strange mare’s direction, slowing my pace when I catch sight of her through the woods. For a moment I observe the intruder. Her coloring and build catch my eye first—while I can contribute my strange markings to my Zebroid heritage, this mare seems to be completely Zebra! Quite frankly, this excites me. Releasing a whicker as I approach her, I give her a tentative smile—still on guard, but unable to help myself from relating to her uniqueness. “Hello,” I come to a halt in front of her, flicking the length of my tail around my fetlocks and fixing her with a pleasantly neutral expression, “may I help you? This is my land you have stumbled across. My name is Aeson.” I flare my nostrils, detecting no trace that a stallion might be looking for her, which pleases me. That would be the last thing I need right now. ;; aeson rowan x siason || nine || neutral |

Imagine was used to looking around constantly. Only reliant on one eye, she had learned to always be on her guard and to constantly sweep the terrain with her watchful gaze. The words and songs of her thoughts kept her ears entertained in their isolation from the rest of the world. It was hard to silence her constantly-busy mind that kept her company, but when her gaze caught sight of a stallion, she was instantly pulled away from her thoughts and daydreams. She looked at him, her bright red eyes suddenly intrigued. He was striped, and though she was blind to color, she wasn't blind to emotion; he wasn't unhappy about her presence. He seemed to be in a pleasant mood, and she instantly relaxed. She had caught him in the middle of a sentence, and to pick up the rest of it, she dipped her head low and looked up at his mouth. She was a skilled lip-reader -- and thank the heavens -- and she watched him closely to understand the last scraps of his words. Something about...'my land', she figured. And...his name, yes. Ae-Aezit? Aezin? Eeson? Something along those lines -- hopefully. Names had always been a tricky thing for her to pick up, especially the more bizarre ones. So. She was in the land of Eezin, who seemed to have a kindly manner and a polite disposition, going from the body-language. He had both horse and zebra blood, and from what little she could tell, the land around her looked relatively empty. Maybe the mares were clustered elsewhere, though. That was enough information for starters, she decided. She wanted to tell him that she was mute; that she couldn't talk. She didn't want him to think that she was shunning him. Now, how did that Kormadian alphabet go again? Ah, she'd remember in a second. She lifted up her foreleg and dipped her neck; she pressed her knee into her throat and shook her head. She snorted, with no voice to accompany it. She supposed that that was enough information for Eezin to piece together the puzzle. Imagine flashed him a kindly smile in return to his politeness. Then, she took her sharp hoof and scrawled a word into the soft dirt: IMAGINE. She pressed her velvety muzzle into the word, and then tossed her head up and down. |

![]() lines © LadyX-LT. . . . let me out of this dream . . . Considering the fact that this mare is a stranger and trespasser in my home, I should be more suspicious. A mare or a stallion, it really doesn’t matter, a threat is a threat when concerning your property—that’s what my father would like to say, anyway. And I am definitely, most certainly nothing like my father. Granted, I should not lower my guard so easily, but I mean come on—she’s a full-blooded Zebra! Aaah! So much excitement…or awe, curiosity—perhaps that is a better word. Mercifully, I don’t think that any of this shows on my face. From what I can feel, it is relatively stoic, but kind. However, as I watch her, the Zebra mare seems to react very little to my words—her features are friendly, but she makes no effort to respond verbally. For some reason, I get the sense that she is concentrating very hard on something other than my eyes. Flicking my tail sharply round my striped flanks, I exhale a huff, trying not to be offended (I mean, it doesn’t look like she’s trying to be rude). I shuffle my weight in the awkward silence between us, my ears flicking back and forth in my uncertainty. Just as I tilt my head and part my lips, to let her know that she should at least tell me why she has trespassed into my home, the albino mare moves. Her motions are strange and unfamiliar. At first I assume that she might be injured, favoring her leg perhaps, but that theory soon falls through. I narrow my eyes, trying to understand, when suddenly it hits me. Duh. She can’t speak. My lips form an ‘oh’ of realization, and more curiosity slowly replaces my confusion. I wonder what it must be like to not have the ability of speech. I don’t particularly consider myself very talkative, or social in any way, but I suppose I have my gabby moments. It would be frustrating to be confined in such a way. However, the white Zebra mare (with crazy red eyes) doesn’t seem to be discouraged. She gives me a smile before scribbling something in the ground. I lean my weight forward to see the word imagine. Furrowing my brow, I watch as she gestures to herself. Understanding reaches me again. “Your name is Imagine?” I nod to myself, feeling accomplished that we have gotten this far. “Well, it’s nice to meet you. Welcome to the Weeping Towers,” I offer her another small smile, “is there anything I can help you with? This is my land…I don’t suppose you’ve been here before?” I tilt my head slightly in question. While I have owned the Towers for over three years, and have never seen her before, I know its history is rich with equines coming and going. ;; aeson rowan x siason || nine || neutral |
