The perlino maiden made her way slowly into the Homeless grounds, unsure of what sort of company she'd be encountering. Mishka was eager to make friends, or at the very least, come into contact with someone who was more than willing to strike up a conversation. The outgoing mare was afraid of being alone, just the thought of it was enough to send her breath halting in her throat. Swallowing air viciously, Mishka had to keep telling herself that this was only a temporary situation. She wasn't going to be alone for long, at least, it was that thought that kept her feet moving.

The summer sun pulsated its rays down onto her cream colored coat, making small sweat patches appear, only to dry up minutes later. Nostrils flared, Mishka looked like some kind of sweaty mad woman, her eyes wide with her ever growing fear. The Draft hybrid halted and took a deep breath, letting it out in a long, slow sigh. You're being ridiculous. Scolding herself, Mishka moved forward once more, this time her steps more confidant that before

It wasn't long before the sun, being the ever convincing thing that it was, made Mishka halt beneath the shade of a large tree. Another sigh escaped her jaws, though this time it was one of exhaustion. She was hot, sweaty and had enough of traveling for the day. Here was where she would rest for now. Conveniently, the large maiden spotted a small pool of water not far off. It was still covered in shade, which enticed the mare even more.

Making her way towards it, Mishka lowered her muzzle into its cool surface, drinking greedily. Pausing only to catch her breath, the mare allowed her crystal eyes to search the land around her fully. There were trees, though their placement was sparse and she was glad she had decided to stop here. It seemed to be the only source of water for as far as her eyes could see. That being the case, she figured that other equines would be making their way towards her momentarily. See, you're fine! You picked the perfect spot. A smug grin found its way spreading across her features before she lowered her jaws once more, drinking slower this time.

Finally deciding she'd had enough, the female nibbled here and there on a few mouthfuls of grass while she watched the horizon. No, it won't be long now. Shaking her bright, almost palomino colored mane, Mishka allowed herself to wonder what types of equines she would be meeting here soon. Hopefully that would be as outgoing and friendly as she was and the thought made her smile.

Deep hoof prints follow a large draft hybrid as he made his descent into the grounds of homeless maidens. Of homeless...carefree maidens... Such a light word to cross the mind of Niklaus, a rather handsome stud with a deep golden hide accented by splashes of white paint and a silky white, wild looking mane and tail. It was safe to assume the Clydesdale and Percheron stallion stood well over many other beings here. That was also assuming there were any.

Amber eyes flitted around to take in the rather dull scenery. The only thing that interested his eye at the moment was the shade off to his side, for Prime gave no rest this day. Clouds that floated about were too wispy to provide any kind of reprieve, and the heavier ones were too lazy to ease the heat for this area. While his heavy feathering on his legs and massive mane and tail swirled around him, they made for a sweltering cover. At least his soft pink nose that was most prone to Prime was covered by thick forelocks. But his nose was the least of his worries, if at all.

Klaus was interested in finding mares here. He wanted...needed...many things. Mares, however, were at his highest priority. For the moment, anyway. And, oh, would you look at that. Initial thought of his first glimpse was what seemed to be of draft breeding. She was tall and heavily built compared to the average horse. The perlino coat did well to have Klaus appreciate her appearance for more than their shared breeding characteristics. As Klaus came through the not-so-dark shadows, he eased his maw into a charming, crooked grin and moved forward, gliding easily for one as large as he. It was noted that he stood a couple hands taller, but again, she had more leg than an average horse here.

Small fluted ears lazily twisted forward to look interested, but not overly excited. As the large draft came around and stopped off her shoulder, he looked at her a bit more closely, taking a couple seconds to observe before she noticed him, if she hadn't already. Eyes were bright, meaning a lively maiden stood before him. She seemed in search of something, not quite as if she had lost something, but not quite the opposite either. Perhaps it was company, for Klaus could see little in this forsaken land. It's devoid environment seemed to pull the comfort of lonliness out and cast it in a vast void. No wonder mares didn't seem to like coming here.

Fact of the matter was, there was one, and she was in front of him. Instead of clearing his throat, he went on to speak in a precise voice, his musical chords pronouncing each word and syllable with a flourish. "You seem to be looking for something.....Perhaps I can help you." Words rolled off of his tongue in a friendly manner, although if one can pick out a Dark, then they would probably second guess themselves after such a thought. For Klaus, he was simply being charming and friendly. There was no reason to act unreasonably, after all...

It wasn't long before Mishka sensed another being in the nearby area. The maiden allowed her cream colored ears to snap to attention and her crystal eyes searched the landscape for the approaching being. The lack of a breeze made it hard to tell which direction the other equine was coming from, but the sound of hoof beats soon followed and Mishka spotted a stallion approaching.

He was of darker coloration than she was, though his body was littered with white splatters. His feathering was heavier than hers, granted she only had little tuffs on her ankles of hair. It was rather embarrassing compared to his heavy feathering to be honest. Snorting softly to herself, Mishka realized the closer the stallion got, just how tall he was. She wasn't short to say the least, her 17hh figure tended to tower over other mares.

The stud stopped his movements next to her and the female felt his eyes travel over her form, making her shift from hoof to hoof. Mishka's ears snapped to attention as the stud spoke, catching his every word eagerly. His tone seemed friendly enough and the Draft hybrid offered a chuckle in response. I'm just here for the same thing other mare's come here for. Mishka grinned softly, her crystal blue eyes searching the land around her. Though it seems I'm the only mare for miles.

The female watched the stud closely, her gaze taking in his figure. She wondered about his life, though that was something you don't outright ask a stranger. Mishka watched the stud for a response, eager to hear his voice reach her pale ears once more.

The mare was eager to take in his words, that much was clear to Klaus. It made his job coming here easier. The ones who questioned and grilled with fantasized suspicions were harder to seduce and charm. Klaus allows a satisfied grin to cover his maw. Hearing her words, he returned her chuckle with a low rumbling within his chest. "Of course...and you are the only worthy femme around for miles, I guarantee you that." He replied slowly. He'd seen a few being charmed to death by do-gooders, stallions who promised the world and beyond. He didn't care for the way they batted their eyes and wrapped themselves instantly around the stallions. Moving somewhat closer, he reached his muzzle out to brush over her cheek. Charming tones leave his throat as he speaks. "My name would be Niklaus. Or you may simply call me Klaus. Would I have the honor of hearing your name..?" He says this near her ear. Unlike a lot of horses he's seen, she actually only stands two hands shorter so he doesn't bend down very far.

Outwardly, he is extremely charming and charismatic, and so far, she doesn't seem to want to question him. Wanting to put her more at ease, and partly because he truly was curious, he asks her about herself. "What brings such a lovely maiden here, for surely one such as yourself simply must have the male population at your heels?" Light jesting creeps into his voice, although she truly was beautiful. Which made him want her badly. Putting thoughts of his loins aside, he patiently waits on her to answer. You don't get what you want with trying to rush through these kinds of things, right?

His rugged face stays near her, breathing in her scent. If things went well, he would be committing her scent to memory. Well...whether she wanted to or not, he wanted her as his own. For now, patience would have to be key. His smoldering amber eyes watched her, his grin not quit reaching his eyes, but friendly seeming enough.

Mishka watched eagerly as a grin crossed the stud's features. It seemed she had said something right, either that or she amused him. Either was fine with the mare and she was pleased when she heard a chuckle escape his jaws. Her ears drank in his words and her face would've surely burned with embarrassment had it been able. A charmer, this one was!

The male moved closer, though Mishka hadn't thought that was possible. He had already been standing close. The perlino took a half step backwards, not quite sure if she was willing to welcome this rapid moving attention she was getting. She flinched ever so slightly at the touch of the male's muzzle to her cheek, though it was hard to notice unless one was watching her closely. His voice remained charming, not at all threatening like the maiden was worried about.

So his name was Niklaus, was it? A handsome name for a handsome stallion, though the thought didn't escape her lips. Smiling softly, Mishka opens her own mouth. A pleasure, Klaus. My name is Mishka, though I'm not sure how you'd shorten that. She chuckles here, the action washing away her insecurities. Bright crystal eyes sparkle with the action, a sign that she's sincere in her words, not at all putting up a front just to please this male. He speaks again, though this time his words bring forth a musical laugh instead of her usual chuckle.

Ah, dear sir, you are quite the charmer! She laughs again, shaking her head with the sound. Tossing her creamy forelock from her gaze, Mishka speaks again. I'm alone, just like, well, like other maidens here would be. She grins, not quite sure what Klaus was expecting of her. She wasn't as interesting as other mares she'd come across. She didn't have a fairy tale life, the only thing really going for her was her looks. Most stallions weren't quite fond of her blunt personality and her loud, outgoing ways.

Mishka tried to keep this side of her in check, so far her bluntness hadn't been needed or called for. She watched the male closely, not quite sure what she should be doing right about now. Shifting her weight from hoof to hoof, the pale maiden spoke again. What about you, Klaus? Surely your maidens are pining for you at home? Her eyes soften at her speech, her bluntness slowly edging forward. She silently wondered how many mares this handsome stud had claimed and, if none, why was he so interested in her?

A E S O N.

To be blatantly honest, I hadn’t meant to end up here. (But then again, who does?)

With Dittany having recently arrived safely from the Quarry with her healthy young one in tow, I had taken it upon myself to patrol the borders of my land more often than usual. This is the first time that I have ever had the care of a foal placed upon me (though perhaps Dittany would disagree, I do take responsibility for ensuring both her and her daughter’s safety), and even though she is not of my blood, I take the matter quite seriously. I can’t imagine what it must be like to become a father—how intensified these feelings will be concerning my own children (whenever that fateful day comes).

Between those two, my sister, and Chryseis’ death, my mind has been occupied as of late. I suppose my thoughts ran away with me, and what started out as any ordinary patrol stretched farther and farther outward—until I have reached where I stand now. It took me a moment to even realize that I had stumbled into the Homeless, the mingling scents and sense of desperation wriggling through thoughts to finally catch my attention. At first I had debated turning around—going back to the Towers and to my dear mares—but I never found myself changing direction, only ambling forward between an easy jog and measured walk.

Not that I have that much experience in these parts of Kormada, but it seems empty here now. What used to be teaming with life and the buzz of conversations is now hollow, fraught, and desperate for attention. Miles and miles pass before I encounter anyone. Their figures grow steadily along the horizon, beaten to shadows by the strength of Prime’s shimmering rays. The reflection of water soon stands in front of them, and swallowing against the dryness of my throat, I amble in their direction.

Their voices drift to me easily, hardly hindered by the flat land, and I catch most of their conversation before I even reach them. With what I hear, my ears flatten momentarily against the back of my neck. I am not usually one to make quick judgments, but this Klaus character reminds me vaguely of my father (and most of my relatives, for that matter). Though charm masks his demeanor, there is a darkness of some kind that lies just beneath—his antics are all too common with those of his kind. My dark lips purse, though my ears flick forward again. I don’t want to assume too much of him, but I can’t help but be wary and feel a need to protect the pretty pale mare—I had never liked my father, after all, and despise most of my family and their conniving ways.

Trying to ignore such judgments, my expression is neutral when I finally come upon the two drafts. After sipping the water to wet my throat, I halt to stand on Mishka’s other side, leaving enough room between us so that she doesn’t feel trapped in between us two stallions. “Hi,” I smile to her, always the charmer myself (ha!), “I couldn’t help but overhear your introductions; my name is Aeson. It’s a pleasure Mishka, Klaus,” my gaze flickers to the other stallion, friendly enough (no need to start anything yet, after all), though my attentions are soon drawn back to the pretty perlino.

I keep running into walls that I can't break down —
Let me out of this dream.

Niklaus [NIK-L-AH-OO-S]

Klaus felt his satisfaction level grow as Mishka was ever enraptured by him. He almost felt a pang of guilt, she was completely unawares of his ulterior motives, and she was reeled in closer and closer. He did not let any of that show, however. His face was kept smooth and amused, his fuzzy fluted ears relaxed upon his poll. At his nearness, he noticed she seemed somewhat uncomfortable, so he shifted away. Now Niklaus, what did we say about patience? His easy crooked grin returned, and he let his eyes embrace the smile. It would not do now for her to see the monstrosity behind the gilded facade.

Allowing himself to be within the moment, he put a larger effort in seeming gracious and kind. Hearing her name, his grin widened and his charm was in full swing. "Mishka is lovely, there would be no need in shortening it." Her next set of words: 'Ah, dear sir, you are quite the charmer!' sent him tossing his large head, wild mane flying as he let out a deep, rumbling laugh. "Nonsense!" She continued on, however in the corner of his eye he finally noticed a rather flashy stallion approaching. Keeping the instant wave of fury from etching onto his ruggedly handsome features, he instead gave an icy glare to the stallion, who in turn seemed to be studying him with disdain. Niklaus decided he had probably been listening, for this forsaken land held no voices prisoner, and let words seep into the air unchecked. They were both noticeably larger and heavier boned this this striped stallion, but that didn't stop the other male from approaching and appreciating Mishka. Klaus couldn't deny him that the perlino maiden was something to behold as appearances go. "Were alone..." He corrected, letting his voice fade. Before the other stallion was there, Mishka said a last sentence. He shook his great head and gave her a sad smile. "I've no soul to share my land with as of yet..." His voice was welcoming, encouraging her for more questions, but they didn't have any time. The striped horse was there. This gave Klaus an opportunity to shift around, inadvertently giving Mishka a bit more space, while remaining close enough. This gave their group a small circle-like appearance. He would have to tread carefully from here, there was no point in making mistakes if the hero already giving him dirty looks decided to call him out, and Mishka believe him. No, he wouldn't do that. After a second, he allowed a small, polite smile to smooth across his features.

A small, slow nod was given to Aeson. Klaus still couldn't help the disdain from itching across his skin at the intrusion, but he smiled for Mishka's sake and welcomed him. "Do join us, we were discussing how lonely this place can be. I'm sure you can relate." Neutral words carried an underlying barb. Klaus smelled other females on this one. And while the initial look of disapproval was gone now that he was within their company, he knew the other stallion would still be wary, and keeping an eye on him throughout this little meeting. It infuriated Klaus further. He wanted so badly to bury his ears within his mane, but he kept a neutral stance, and his ears and facial features remained mildly relaxed. He stiffly cocked a hind leg, his large hips tilting with the motion. He allowed his attention to return fully to Mishka, waiting for her own reply to Aeson.

Mishka noticed how Klaus moved away from her at the sight of her uncomfortable movements and she offered him a smile in return. At least he's thoughtful. Snorting softly in response to his words, Mishka chuckled once more. He was putting on the charm, but it was hard for the maiden to notice any ill motives. In fact, the perlino merely thought he was a kindhearted stallion who just wanted to offer her the company she so desperately desired. That was the flaw behind her ways, but the draft continued being blind to the ever screaming ways of brutes.

His laughter drew her in even more, this time it was Mishka who took a step towards him, her smile never faltering. She was easily won over and this whole display was just proving so. However, before she could be completely caught, the scent of another stallion wafted its way into her nostrils and the mare craned her thick, muscular neck around to watch a striped stallion approach.

His appearance caught her off-guard, but she imagined it was the way she affected others when she approached. Mishka offered the male a smile, bright eyes sparkling at the thought of more companionship. It never crossed her mind that maybe, just maybe, she'd have to pick which of these males she'd like to part with. A polite hello escapes his jaws and the female nods in return, her pale ears at attention. Klaus was forgotten for a moment when this new arrival announced his calling and Mishka took a friendly step towards him.

Klaus spoke again, though Mishka only allowed one ear to pivot backwards to catch his words. Instead of responding to the draft, the female allowed her words to dance towards Aeson. A pleasure, Aeson. Please, join us. Her smile changed to a grin and she craned her head back towards the larger stallion, noticing how his politeness seemed to continue. Well that's a good sign. Of course, Mishka was only fooling herself, but it never seemed to phase her.

Klaus vocalized his acceptance of the other male shortly after Mishka had, making the mare chuckle softly, almost inaudibly. She quite liked the attention she was receiving here. Her creamy ears danced around her skull, wondering which of them would be the next to speak, but when no words came, the female gladly filled the air with her own voice. What brings you here, Aeson? Surely, a handsome stallion such as yourself isn't lacking companionship.

Her own words made her suddenly remember that she had made nearly the same statement to Klaus only minutes earlier. Somewhat embarrassed, Mishka turned her attention to the painted stallion and offered an apologetic smile. However, she remained silent, returning her attention to the oddly marked equine to her other side. Their circle seemed welcoming, especially to one as naive as Mishka.

A E S O N.

The pale draft mare offers me a genuine smile, seeming only too eager to welcome the addition of my company. I give her a flickering smile in return (a sad and pale version of her own exuberance, but I’m working on it, okay?), and perk my ears forward as she takes a step towards me. That’s a good sign, right? Not that I had intended to intrude or anything, but it is the Homeless. What discretion and seclusion might exist is all but left at the borders, allowing the treacherous and thrilling games to ensue within, ensnaring both the naïve and faint of heart.

It is these thoughts that bring my dark gaze shifting quickly to Klaus, only a breath before he offers me his own smile and welcoming words. My expression remains impartial towards him, neither particularly hostile nor friendly (which, luckily, is very easy—considering the neutral expression that seems to almost always hold me anyway). “Indeed,” I say with measured tones, inclining my head in the slightest nod in accordance with my words, “the Homeless is definitely not known for its friendly and hospitable reputation.” Like Klaus’ words, mine hold an underlying barb, only a miniscule sting to test the waters perhaps.

Despite his massive stature, the draft stallion does not intimidate me (though I am well-built myself, in all considerations). He may be a hulk, yes, but the demons are all the same—the ones I have fought myself for my entire life. If I were to be of the more pretentious type, I would probably consider myself a hero in moments like this. Saving unsuspecting damsels in distress, whisking them away from the greedy jaws of the wicked and vile, carrying them away to safety. But, I am hardly one for such ridiculous fanfare. I am no hero, after all—far from it. Still, I’d like to think that I am not from the same material as those like my father…and Klaus.

I keep telling myself that, anyway.

When Mishka speaks, it brings me from my mulling thoughts. I can’t help but chuckle deeply at her apparent enthusiasm for…well, for everything! It is a relief, truly. If I hadn’t been trying to forget, then she would probably remind me of my dear sister, in a way. So kind and open to others. It’s a shame how such brilliance is so often corrupted and dimmed in the face of dark intentions.

“You flatter me too much, Mishka,” I smile, somewhat bashfully, my muscled neck arching as I tuck my head in momentarily towards my chest. “I do have a modest herd of beautiful mares at home. Unfortunately most of them have been keeping to themselves as of late, but I can assure you that they are all lovely by nature,” I give her a more confident grin before it fades. I do adore each of my mares (they are the fireflies that I have salvaged from the wild night)—I just hope that I’m not failing them as a leader, protector, and friend. Call me corny or whatever, but I want to know them more than the trophies I’ve seen too often.

I keep running into walls that I can't break down —
Let me out of this dream.

ooc: I love Aeson xD xD

Dark palomino hide glitters and flexes as Klaus shifts his heavy feet. Normally on the move, he is unused to actually standing around the chatting with others. Although, one could only guess that his intentions were less than honorable for being here, and if it meant standing around....well, he would relent. His black heart did not find this visit in any way refreshing, talking to mares and trading barbs. He wanted results, and he wanted them quickly. This was the kind of thing that could have offered that had Aeson not joined them.

Mishka actually moved toward Klaus a beat before Aeson fully joined their circle, and he gave the back of her head a small lift of his lips, as she was now focused on the striped equine. As with him, she was very welcoming of Aeson, and included him in with no time to spare. Maybe you'll see your true worth, test it, a voice sniggered in the back of his skull. We sure shall, he replied in kind to himself. Velvety lips widened considerably at Aeson when he spoke. He liked this witty little horse, despite the reason behind their meeting each other. He could see this was not a horse that took bait, he merely threw it back in kind without batting an eye. He was also completely unperturbed by Klaus and his apparent size, or by Mishka for that matter. Yes, he decidedly liked Aeson, but he wouldn't simply let him have Mishka without a fight. Figuratively.

"Tis not, Aeson." He agreed, his smoky voice probably carrying over the approval he felt over the smaller being. Mishka definitely approved of Aeson being here, she seemed to approve of having horses around at all. Klaus realized she probably was lonely, probably needed a stallion in her life. Klaus saw this as a potential problem...What if she wanted more mares around, to have what felt like a family? Aeson clearly had more mares than he did; he had none. She may choose the little striped horse simply on that reason alone. Klaus really couldn't do anything about the fact. He could always challenge Aeson on the deal, however Klaus wasn't yet looking for enemies. He was looking for allies, and that would be another matter entirely.

Surely, there was a way past this predicament, but as of now, everything seemed to rest on the shoulders of Mishka. She would be the first to start his hopefully larger herd in the future, if not, he would have to wait longer. At the creamy draft's question, Klaus simply stood where he was, shifting near Mishka but not actually stepping over to her. He wasn't the one she directed her question to, and he didn't mind. A certain quiet that hadn't accompanied him earlier stole over his being, calming him. He was determined to win the heart of Mishka. He certainly was a monster, a cruel one at that, but it wasn't necessarily mares he was the monster to.
