The brindle covered grullo tobiano mare burst through the pastures at a full speed, feeling the breeze in her deep colored mane. She had always enjoyed running, and when she had the chance she wouldn't pass it up. She didn't quite know exactly where the 'Homeless' was, but was told she'd know she was there when she reached it. With the purest of grass and brightest of skies.

Azania held her head high as her hind quarters shifted lowly into a quick stop when she scented other equines in her presence. Her grullo and brindle ears perked high as she tossed her head to catch another wiff of the horses.

Once the mare located the other horses, and realized that they weren't all to close to herself; she lowered her head and lipped at the green grass, sniffing at it lightly and smelling just how pure the scent was. She lifted her head once more, her tri-colored forelock covering her eyes slightly as she slowly moved forward, deeper into the homeless. Exploring the area, she soon came to a long creek, about five inches deep and sand-bottom. Stomping in it playfully, she snorted as the water splashed up into her snout and shook out her mane as it had gotten on her neck. Being her playful self while she had the chance to be alone, unknowings to who else was here, but keeping her ears up on guard. Her long tail flicking against her round barrel to shoo the flies that tried to nibble her skin.

A E S O N
zebroid hybrid stallion . rowan x siason . six years old . seal bay w/striped legs . brown eyes . neutral . 16hh

I wander lazily through this foreign land, lingering along the borders for a while before I resign myself with a sigh, and make my way deeper into the heart of this notorious territory. The long length of my black tail wraps around my hocks as I flick my tail gently, the dark strands intertwining themselves with my legs as I saunter forward. It feels much like a march, the way I move. Foreboding, unhurried, and doomed. I’ve only been to the Homeless once before, which is an experience that I prefer to remember little of. Since then, I have often chosen the Quick Claim as my place of choosing, which is strange, considering the lack of knowledge two individuals know about each other before choosing a decision that’s supposed to last a lifetime.

But then again, I assume that is what life is all about, isn’t it—making leaps of faith. It is tiring, really. I do not favor the unknown myself, even though I have been known to linger within the shadows of solitude in the past. Either way, it is not on a careless whim that I have decided to travel to this land of many secrets. Soon, hopefully within the coming week, I intend to depart from the heavily forested borders of Kherulian Fief, and seek out my own land once again. Relic has been kind, but sparse in his presence. I have appreciated his willingness to allow me to be his beta, but after nearly a year, I feel rejuvenated to begin again.

There is also the matter concerning my mares. Piper has just returned only days before, much to my immense delight; I had worried over her absence, but had been unwilling to leave the rest of the mares to search for her. It made me feel guilty to leave her on her own out there somewhere, and so I couldn’t have been more overjoyed to find her home with me again, unscathed. However, my other mares have made themselves scarce recently. This has been the main motivation for my journey today, to possibly find more company for the few mares that have remained at my side. After all, I know that I could not possibly be nearly enough companionship.

Flaring my nostrils in a silent sigh, I direct my path towards a thin grove of trees that sit nestled among the wide rolling hills of green. Patches of conversations dot the horizon, with stallions courting mares and the like—of course it would be typical of me to avoid all of this and seek shelter in the mottled shade. I purse my dark lips with the irony, mildly chiding myself as the thin boughs reach over me. The green grass is soft, muting my hooves as I pick my way slowly through the slender trunks. A gentle breeze glides through the meager forest, dancing with the black strands of my odd mane, and the patterns of shadows play with the stripes that are clearly visible over my body with the warm summer season.

I hesitate for a moment, my large brown eyes glancing around as I allow myself this quiet moment of isolation. However, splashing soon ripples over the grass, accompanied by the snorts of someone enjoying themselves. My ears flick forward, several moments passing before I decide to investigate. When I come to the thin edge of the tree line, it opens once again into the soft rolling of green hills and shallow valleys, with a bubbling brook cutting through a few yards in front of where I stand. I notice a young mare standing at the bank of the brook, cutting an impressive figure with her sturdy build and loud coloring.

Of course, my eyes are drawn to the darker stripes that are laced throughout her colored patches, and immediately I am drawn to her. How could I not be, after all? Though the source is likely different genetically, I cannot help but hope to connect with individuals who share a unique appearance as I do. Stepping into the warm light, I release a whicker as I draw near to alert her of my presence, if she hasn’t noticed me already. “Hello,” I greet her plainly as I come to stop on the other side of the bank, hesitating before I step into the shallow stream of water and cross over to the same side as the mare. “I see you are enjoying yourself,” a smile hovers over my lips without really touching the corners, “My name is Aeson.”

Azania didn't notice the stallion, in all of her playful thrashing and splashing in the water. A deep voice came from her right side, and she quickly jerked her head to look over towards where the sound came from. "Hi." She said, her voice soft and soothing, not above much of a whisper. Slowly shifting so she was facing the stallion who was now on the same side of the river bank as she herself was.

A soft blush formed upon her cheeks as he began to speak of her playful moment she had in the stream. "Oh." A smile crept upon her lips as her ears softly fell back in an embarrassed motion. "Yeah, I enjoy water." She muttered with a soft laugh that slipped off her lips as easily as the water that trickled down her slick pelt.

She carefully examined the stallion, her chocolate brown eyes scanning his unique patterns and structure, ones that were closely related to her own. He could possibly be someone from her family line, but she doubted that. Since the majority of her family were long gone and dispersed throughout places besides Kormada. "My name is Azania." She finally spit her name out in a slow explaining way. Just so he would learn how to pronounce her name easily, since a lot of other equines were unable to pronounce her name in the correct way. She carefully shifted a hoof towards him, wanting to get closer to this stranger, whom she had just met. But wanted to know more about her new friend, if they were going to talk a while, then she might as well make herself comfortable. She carefully propped her back left hoof on it's tip, relaxing her body and showing him she didn't mind his presence.

Let me out of this dream.

At first I think that I have frightened the mare, and my fluted ears flick backwards submissively as I lower my head a degree or two, with my almond eyes remaining steadily trained on her face. However, she seems to recover very quickly from my initial intrusion. A smile of my own nearly matches hers as my blackened lips soften at the corners, not quite animated to lighten my eyes, but friendly enough. I find a sort of amusement with her embarrassment, not mocking in any way, but entertained by her apparent bashfulness. She laughs at herself easily, carrying on the conversation, not offended or irritated with my initial observation—all attributes that I take into account.

My small herd is meager, with only a handful of mares—and even fewer mares that I have seen recently—but I still seek to provide comfort and protection for each of them. It would just be my luck to come across an ornery mare in the Homeless, and bring her home to patronize and belittle the other mares, some of whom I have come to hold dear (though I adore all of them, of course). This particular maiden seems to be light-hearted and friendly, all good and wonderful things, but there is really only so much I can truly know within the first five seconds of meeting her. But I suppose that’s what this land is all about, isn’t it? Getting to know each other for a few moments and choose a life-long decision.

I manage to refrain from rolling my eyes, loathing this process and mildly grateful for it all the same. With my thoughts and attention returning to the multi-colored mare in front of me, she is now introducing herself. I can’t help myself but release a slight chuckle as she does so, the sound fluttering softly against my nostrils, as deliberate and careful she is with giving me her name. “Well, a pleasure it is, Azania,” I make sure to imitate the way she pronounced her name, the amused smile still lingering gently across my dark lips.

I note how her posture slips more into one of relaxation, which I am pleased with (the last thing I want to be doing is making her uncomfortable, which I feel is a terrible weakness of mine). However, while my body is not tense and my features are reserved but open, I do not slip into total comfort as Azania does. Perhaps it is instinct telling me to stay alert, especially in a place as unpredictable as this. Either way, I am not uneasy, and hope that this is obvious to the mare. “Water is a good thing to enjoy,” I muse, continuing, “especially on a summer day like this, though it is beautiful.” My eyes wander for a moment as I take in our surroundings, observing the other clumps of equines gathered in the distance.

Quite frankly, I am glad that Azania and I aren’t in the thick of the interactions. I likely wouldn’t have approached if that had been her chosen place anyway, seeing as I had come here and sought isolation within the sparse forest (typical of me, I know). I find myself able to breathe when it is just the two of us, unhindered by the bustle and commotion of others. Flicking the length of my black tail, I quickly look back to her. “I assume you have some questions to drill me with. I’m sure I’ll get my chance soon enough,” a witty smile skews one side of my lips for a moment, my ears perking forward as I wait.

Azania listens to the stallion speak for a few moments, and watch his expressions in the awkward silence that lingers for a few moments before she clears her throat and tilts her head softly. "Well, I don't have many questions, I mean.." Azania does some sort of shrug, and shifts so she's standing on all fours against instead of relaxing one of her four hooves. She turned and moved to stand in the ankle-high water. "I don't know what typed of questions to ask, if you're sweet to me, I'm sweet to you, and that's how my first impressions work. No need for a slamming of questions and surveys asking you about your entire life, I mean, we're in the now, not the past, is how I look at it."

Azania laughed softly at her own lecturing moment as she rolls her eyes at her words, hopping out of the water and slightly, playfully almost, bumping into the stallion as she pranced away from him in a teasing manner. She was always the type to do things intentionally, but only to make a laugh and get someone to crack a smile across their fuzzy lips. She swished her tail, showing that her actions were nothing but mere jokes and weren't meant to be taken seriously.

As the mare waited for the stallion to respond to her movements, she locks her rear under herself and turns in a quick motion to watch him with intent eyes, pawing at the ground in an almost impatient way, but this was yet another joke as she lowered her head and watched him with a soft smirk across her lips, her eyes intent and locked on the stallion as her talk continued to softly hit her sides with each movement.

Let me out of this dream . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

It doesn’t take the striped mare long to initially respond, her first statement soon fading into silence
as she shifts her weight before continuing. My fluted ears remain tilted forward, waiting patiently for
whatever she might have to offer me. However, the words that follow are not exactly what I had
expected, and while her aversion to questions is not a bad thing, I cannot help the pursing of my lips
or the slight amusement that has crept into my dark eyes. Azania seems to find humor in herself as
well, releasing a tinkling chuckle into the cool air and rolling her eyes lightheartedly.

I can appreciate her own humor, with a light smile softening the corners of my blackened lips, though
I am not totally prepared for her playful antics as she leaps from the water’s grasp. Wordlessly, I
watch as she prances away from me. While humor isn’t something that I am entirely uncomfortable
with, being so care-free and fun are things that I have yet to become accustomed to. I admire her
spirited tricks, but am only able to give her a deep chuckle in return. Fortunately, I am able to compose
myself quickly, just as the painted mare turns rapidly to face me and paws the grassy ground. My ears
flick back at first, unsure, though I relax quickly when she reveals this to be another tease.

With a breathy snort fluttering across my nostrils, I shake my handsome head and give her a brief smile,
taking a step towards her as I begin speaking. “You have a valid point,” I muse, “it is not only the
questions that matter, I suppose. They are important though; I would argue that it is the questions—
simple questions—that would allow us to get to know one another. After all, they open the doors, do they
not?”
A light smirk curls one side of my lips, though my general posture remains unobtrusive. I respect
her opinions, and I hope that she can respect mine; after all, were I in her situation, I would not make
such a life-long decision without proper assurance. No need for in-depth interviews, but I think that it is
important to understand one another, and what we would expect from each other.

Flicking the long length of my black tail, I raise my head a few degrees, releasing a sigh through my
nostrils. “You seem to be a smart mare, Azania,” my smile widens momentarily for her, “so I will only ask
one question of you; what would you expect of me, as your claimer? Hypothetically speaking, of course,”

I chuckle awkwardly, not wanting to seem like I’m trying to force my claim on her, though my dark gaze
remains resting on her pretty face. It is not every mare that I would be willing to take home with me,
but I am not wholly worried about the brindled mare. Something tells me that she would do well with my
other mares.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
‘I can't turn this around, I keep running into walls that I can't break down —
LET ME OUT OF THIS DREAM.’
