A black and white overo stallion moved slowly through what was once green grass. It was now brown and trampled. He wondered how it survived with so many horses nibbling at it and stepping on it. The stallion's once bright face could now be compared to the dead grass he was walking through. The last year had been rough on him. He had inherited a land he hadn't been ready to take and had lost the ones he valued most. Even his mother had felt the need to leave. He feared that he would not see the little mustang mare again and he felt very alone. His father's other mares had also disappeared from his land. Even the mare who lived in her own mind's fantasy had disappeared. Nightwing shook his head. He had had too much time to reflect recently. Canyon Rock was empty and now he was starting anew. It was possible that his problem was that he was looking for a certain type of mare for his herd. He wanted someone loving and kind to keep him company and to help him raise children. Maybe he was trying to fill a void that he might never fill. His mind often wandered back to the time of his foalhood when life was good and everyone he loved was around him. He knew that was no way to live. He needed someone to fuel his playful side before it no longer existed. Something in the corner of the stallion's eye caught his attention and he looked in the figure's direction. It was a mare standing alone. The stallion changed his course and went to the mare. He stopped a fair distance from her and gave her a smile. "Hello, miss. It's a lovely day, isn't it?" |

Her copper gaze rested upon a painted stallion as he neared her. She blinked slowly, watching with a careful eye. She shifted her weight, positioning her silver bay form to face him directly. He greeted Valkyrie, not introducing himself, but they would get around to that. The maiden nodded, saying nothing yet. She was curious, her gaze showing this and her hesitation upon meeting someone new. The young mare blinked again, silvery white strands of her forelock falling in the way of her copper glance. This stallion, though she did not know it, had had a childhood that she would have liked. Surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. Valkyrie could have had that, but she never really felt like she belonged with her parents, siblings, with her uncle or cousins. So she wandered between the two lands, the two lives, two semblances of the horse she felt like she pretended to be. Now that world of his was gone while hers never was. He stood there disappointed and unready for this adult life, and she was unsure of what she wanted or what lay ahead. Lovely day indeed. "Yes, I suppose.." Her voice trailed off, eyes still on his black and white pelt. She would not have meant to be rude, but what was there to say? 'Sure it's a lovely day. Now take me home so we can live together, make babies, and pretend to be happy'? Maybe that's what was expected from this world, but what would Valkyrie know of it? Eyes trailed back to the stallion's eyes. She gave another degree of a quiet nod, words slightly more rushed this time. "Yes, sorry about that. I'm Valkyrie." female . silver bay . arabian w/ qh infusion . 15.3 hands . neutral . homeless |
