Hinder steps briskly into the Battle Grounds. He is here to challenge Rahasya to the right of Black Cavern. He sits patiently, his two toned eyes hooded.

Rahasya let out a huff of thought from his powerful lungs that were nestled perfectly beneath his skin and muscles. His long, black bangs rested handsomely over his left eye. Large ears rested atop his perfectly-sculpted head. His read rested upon a thickly-muscled neck that sloped smoothly into his shoulders, and then his powerful spine, and lastly his hips and tail. His legs were steady and his hooves solid. He was of perfect conformation and build, with age having not laid a single claw on him. Intimidating and confident were certainly two words that described him.

Usually, the stallion was mysterious, hidden about his thoughts and emotions, although it was no secret that he was constantly thinking. Only a fool could miss the thought behind his brown eyes. But today, the mysteriousness and quietness in his eyes was replaced by a blazing fire that no equine had ever witnessed. Never before had a temper been clearly seen in him since foalhood. Today, though, he was protecting his land.

It was not a matter of pride for Rahasya that he would not release his claim on Black Cavern. It was the memories of the land that made it so special. Once, when the territory had caught fire and gone down in flames, he and Mia had hidden inside the Cavern for protection. It was there that Cokelat came into existence. And the hill that overlooked most of the territory was where he and his beloved Queen would stand for so long, beside each other. Black Cavern was the only home Cokelat had known - it was the place she grew up in. Black Cavern was the very place where Rahasya had fallen sweetly in love. He would not give up this territory so easily.

At last, after a few minutes of walking through the ugly land, Rahasya found his challenger. The stallion came to a halt in front of Hinder and stared at him with piercing, thoughtful, angry eyes. He would allow Hinder to explain himself before speaking.

As Hinder stood waiting, he stepped out to pace, then thought better of it. He settled back again and forced his patience. After a while, his muscles seemed to relax of their own volition. When he opened his eyes and trusted himself to remain still, he spotted a dark figure coming near. Hooves traveled over the bloodstained ground. Some horses felt it important to leave their prints behind them as they carved a path of their own, but here, the bloodstains were what left the boldest traces behind. Daring others to come and leave stains of their own from their enemy and hope little was spilled from themselves. This day, Hinder set his mouth in a grim line, knowing whatever the outcome, it was because of him wanting the Cavern. He hadn't any attachment to the place, he simply wanted somewhere new. Near the Province. That was his plan. He had heard of Viral and his...leave. He had also heard the nasty stallion had also returned. He wanted to have shown both of them, but Hinder guessed one would do.

The figure now was clearly defined as he finally reached Hinder. Well muscled with a good conformation to boot. His green and blue eyes mildly read the tight body language. Rahasya reminded Hinder much of himself when he was a foolish colt asking for the approval of Esroh and Viral. A wild energy ready to burst, outwardly calm and ready, but still....ready to burst. Hinder could clearly see the blazing orbs of the stallion in front of him. He said nothing for a moment. He would have normally charged the other stallion in hopes of knocking him off balance, but Hinder's eyes revealed nothing. He finally cocked his head as the other stallion clearly seemed to be waiting for Hinder to speak. The look in the eyes of Rahasya was that of..... well Hinder did not quite know as he had not experienced what Rahasya has as far as attachment to land. He simply could see that the land would not easily be given up. That could make for a very dangerous enemy, and Hinder respected that.

He did not, however, respect him enough to say the challenge was off. He wanted Black Cavern fiercely for its location. Hinder inclined his head and his voice rolled smoothly from black velvet lips. "I want the right to lay claim over Black Cavern. Here are my conditions. I win, I receive the land and you may keep your mares. You may stay as Beta if you wish...I lose, I simply wish to become Beta and be allowed to have two mares. I like the land for its location, not for any spite against you personally. If you do win and do not wish me to become Beta, I respect that. I have no mal intent for you, I do not care for your mares, and would ask of a fair fight with you for what I just explained." He settled back to see what Rahasya had to say to this. It sounded fair and reasonable in the ears of Hinder. He had no intention of staying in the Caverns forever, but the place would serve it's purpose. He couldn't just tell these things to Rahasya for risk of him finding out what the black stallion's plans were and ruining them.

Hinder wanted revenge. He wanted sweet revenge against those that had wronged him. This battle would give him practice at least, even if he did happen to lose.

Rahasya listened to the stallion speak and explain his terms. Rahasya kept on a stoic face with those blazing eyes, and stood firmly in front of Hinder. When Hinder was finished, Rahasya thought about what the stallion had to say. Hinder certainly seemed like a fair stallion who did not wish to cause harm to anyone in particular - he just wanted the land. Rahasya was grateful that Hinder had no intentions of claiming Mia, and he was also grateful that Hinder would allow him to stay as Beta in Black Cavern if he lost. However, Rahasya hardly knew this stallion. To allow Hinder to become Beta was not something Rahasya was ready to accept just yet.

At last, the dark bay stallion spoke. "I appreciate your terms and agree that they are, indeed, fair. But to allow you to become Beta of Black Cavern if you lose is not something I am willing to immediately accept. I care about who lives in my land. I may not be satisfied being your Beta, either. Whatever the outcome today, I do believe that a conversation in the Gathering is in order after we have had some time to heal and cool off from the battle. I believe it would be wise to get to know each other before making important, life-changing deals." Rahasya paused. He hoped that Mia would be satisfied with his answer to Hinder's terms. Rahasya cared so much about what Mia thought, but since she was not here, he could not ask her about anything. He had to make these decisions on his own, which was fine - he was just concerned about Mia's wants. "Are we agreed?"

Hinder noted that Rahasya stayed fairly calm in the first moments before he chose to speak. If luck prevailed, they would have their battle, then settle on terms in a reasonable fashion. Hinder swiveled his tattered ears forward to listen to the opposing stallion. He gave a quick nod. His speculation of the other being relieved about the exclusion of mares in their deal was correct. At least, that is what he gathered the relief in Rahasya's eyes was about. "That is fair, and we are agreed. Let us begin." He lowered his arched neck and dipped his head towards his chest in a small bow. His picture perfect posture of calm was then replaced with a tensed readiness. His head was raised again, tucked against his neck to protect his jugular. Whilst they agreed on a fair fight, each would lose himself with the desire to win.

One would almost say Hinder was at a disadvantage: He had no land, and had no attachment. Rahasya was battling for his land and ultimately for his mares; if reason could not be reached, they would be out of a home and Rahasya would either battle another stallion or run the risk of choosing a temporary land that may not be as providing as Black Cavern. A lot was at stake, but Hinder had his reasons too.

His boiling hatred for Esroh and Viral was immense. It was important to him to show he could be the King of the lands. With Viral hopefully gone as rumors would have it, only Esroh was left. That didn't mean the Province wasn't somewhere he eventually hoped to rule. This was where everything tied in around the Black Cavern. Say who you will had the disadvantage, either Hinder's black hatred and ambition, or Rahasya's need to keep his family's home. This was what the battle was ultimately about.

The raven black form of the pirate shot forward, therefore, commencing the battle.

ATTACK ONE

An unusual attack formed within Hinder's mind. Many a stallion was fond of sinking teeth into the jugular, flailing their hooves about and scrabbling at the back of their opponent, but he had something else in mind. He had strong, powerful hind legs, and he would be damned if he didn't use that to his advantage. His flight brought him head on to the other stallion, and he dived at the last second to the right, their hides brushing. Hinder readied himself for the uncomfortable feeling about to proceed, and he was going into a dangerous position. His chest drew even and slightly away from the hindquarters when Hinder jammed his front legs into the ground, bringing him to a stop. All in one motion, his hind legs shot out, intending to land a kick in the elbow area. Over the protesting and strain on his front legs, he felt himself connect solidly. His ears were ringing with too much adrenaline to hear if anything crunched or to feel if anything gave way. His escape consisted of hoping like hell that the front leg was jolted enough to unbalance Rahasya, therefore slowing any reaction while Hinder wheeled to his right. Like hell he was going to run past those dangerous hindquarters! He danced a few paces away, his nostrils flaring and a dampness settling over his ebony neck. He kept his throat protected by arching his neck. He cut a handsome figure despite his many battle scars.

Rahasya nodded to Hinder, glad that the stallion was in agreement with the terms.

Rahasya knew that if Hinder had fought before, he would have the advantage - he would be able to fall back on experience. Rahasya, on the other hand, could only trust his instincts and use his head; he had no experience of battle in him. This would be his first, and therefore his confidence was not high. Perhaps that would be a good thing; confidence could sometimes prove to be an issue. But so could lack of confidence.

The bay stallion allowed himself to sink into the talons of rage once more. And then, the fight began.

Defense 1:

Rahasya backed up a couple paces cautiously when Hinder ran at him. Rahasya's angry gaze was locked on the opponent, his heart was beating madly, his ears were folded back, and his muscles were prepared to move like a finger on the trigger of a gun. Hinder approached, and Rahasya could feel a jolting brush from the stallion. Hinder was dangerously close now. Rahasya leaped forward to try and get a safer distance from Hinder. Mid-leap, Rahasya saw what Hinder was doing, and instantly a sense of panic surged through the stallion. Rahasya could not escape Hinder's hooves, and those horrid weapons hit him - one just past his ribcage, the other on his thigh. Pain surged through him and crawled down to the deepest muscles surrounding his flank and ribcage like poison, and part of his intestines had shared in the cruel beating. His thigh burned like fire, all the way down to the bone. Rahasya let out a pained cry, stumbled, and nearly fell to the ground, but managed to keep his balance. His body shook with all the pain that had come so suddenly, and his eyes became wet with tears. At least he could still run and fight, but now it would be painful. It would be weeks before his muscles, intestines, and bone would heal enough to not be noticeable all the time. Rahasya had no idea that anyone could feel so much pain.

Attack 1:

Rahasya snorted angrily at Hinder, his muscles aching immensely with every breath. Rahasya quickly formed a plan, and charged at Hinder. His hooves beat the ground mercilessly and his muscles worked as hard as they could as they fought pain. When Rahasya came right in front of Hinder, he dug his hind hooves into the ground and reared up to an intimidating height. He then allowed the front half of his body to fall, and he reached out with his left leg and aimed for the left side of Hinder's neck. Rahasya closed his eyes, kept his right leg close to his body, and put all his strength into his left leg. He thought he felt his left hoof hit something, but he could not be certain. He hoped he cut Hinder's flesh and allowed blood to spill. It was about time.

Rahasya landed, opened his eyes, and backed away a few feet. Weakness was now starting to really poison his strength; rearing up had proven to be a mistake. Rahasya hoped he would be able to adequately defend himself from Hinder's next attack.

Hinder felt something akin to respect when the other stallion neatly avoided his targeted area, but he heard the pained grunt, and allowed himself a small amount of confidence. He had gained an advantage by hurting his opponent first. Rahasya came back with a vengeance, and rather original attack. Hinder readied himself, his eyes sharply assessing the body language of his opponent. This could mean the difference being crippled or not. Possibly even life or death.

DEFENSE ONE

Rahasya did the same as Hinder, charging head on. The muscles of the other stallion bunched early. Hinder's dash had been uninterrupted until he jabbed his hooves into the ground whereas Rahasya engaged himself in a stop. Front hooves came off the ground and came flailing at him, the weight of his entire body bearing down on them. Instead of scuttling backwards, Hinder surged forward, but did not evade the attack. As he went forward to shove Rahasya in his chest, a hoof sliced down the entire length of his neck, tearing skin and muscle. Well, that was quite the inconvenience, seeing as how hot pain seared through and seemed to embrace his entire neck. It even made his tattered ears madly twitch. Deciding to turn his evade tactic into a attack, Hinder kept surging forward.

ATTACK TWO

Hinder dug his hind legs and clawed madly with his frontal hooves to put his whole musculature into the attack. As Rahasya went to simply back away, Hinder kept going forward, not bothering to waste precious strength and endurance on circling around and charging again. Since Rahasya was backing away, he lost the advantage of having himself braced to maintain his balance. Hinder meant to crash his shoulder on the side of his opponents left one, his teeth grabbing for sensitive skin on the underbelly. He definitely felt purchase, but he was not sure what damage was sustained. Hinder dropped his hindquarters to grab the earth and scrabbled madly around to get away, hopefully before Rahasya got him back. Pain laced constantly through his entire neck, keeping those ears twitching. The movement of his neck lowering to bite Rahasya had had his neck screaming earlier. He saw black dots attempting to blot out his vision, but a firm shake of his head cleared them away for now. His eyes locked on his opponent, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. This stallion was proving to be original, but effective. That was dangerous.

Defense 2:

Rahasya's heart jumped when Hinder came charging at him again. The bay stallion tried to prepare himself in the split-second of time he had, and before he knew it, Hinder was upon him again. Rahasya snarled at the jarring shoulder-clash that occurred between the two. His eyes widened when he saw what Hinder was going for; tender flesh. Rahasya tried to crouch down in time to avoid the worst of the barbaric attack, but he felt teeth rip into his flesh. Rahasya felt that sickening feeling of saliva spilling into his bloodstream and stabbing him with even more pain, and then the same spit-contaminated blood slipped right back out and stained his sweaty hide. Rahasya took in a shock-choked gasp and then whinnied again - with excruciating pain and anger in his voice. Heat and pain from exhausting battle was gripping the bay stallion harder and harder with every passing second.

Attack 2:

Rahasya took in a deep breath - he had to make this next attack be painful. He ran forward again at Hinder. Rahasya knew he could not rear up without possibly buckling beneath the pain from his muscles, thigh, and intestines. Bucking would be no better, either. He had to do what his instincts told him - a bite.

Rahasya could feel himself running forward, and he knew vaguely what he was going to do, but he felt numb with all the suspense. He was running on instinct, now. He felt the cold wind shoot through his mane and sting his eyes, he felt every muscle in his legs working as he ran. He felt like he was running in slow-motion, and at the same time, running too fast. He let out a shallow trickle of breath through his nostrils and locked onto his target with blood-shot eyes. Messily, he came alongside Hinder, reached out, and aimed for the enemy's withers. He closed his eyes again, and closed his jaws like a shark upon prey. He snorted angrily, and quickly backed off a couple yards away from Hinder. Rahasya came to a slow stop, and kept his gaze averted from Hinder as he took a moment to catch his breath.

He blinked several times before fully regaining composure. Reflecting on what had just happened, he had no idea if he had bitten Hinder's withers. Rahasya had been completely numb during the attack. It was a strange thing to have run purely on instinct. For as long as Rahasya could remember, he had always thought about things carefully. Never had he charged straight into something without analyzing the situation closely. He hoped he would never, ever have to rely on instinct like that again. It had been a curious sensation - and a traumatic one. He felt like he had been bluffing.

Rahasya lifted his head and looked back at Hinder, and then sank back into his stoic expression, and kept his emotions bottled up deep inside.

The scream of Rahasya set Hinder's ears ringing even more. He shook his head violently, stumbling around and trying to get the confusion from soaking in. Thundering steps came at him again. Hinder could see that Rahasya was nearly as numb as he was beginning to feel. Luckily, the battle was nearly done. He had one more attack and two more defense left. He hoped he could force his body to comply on his final defense. The pounding steps came even closer, and he lifted his head, a snarl etched into his already harsh features.

DEFENSE TWO

Hinder's muscles screamed as he danced clumsily to the side, but he should have taken the bite on the withers rather than a few inches back on his, well, back. Strong jaws clamped desperately on his spine. It was as good as a crippling pressure point. Hinders legs gave slowly and he sank on his knees to the ground, screaming through his teeth. Hot blood seared down either side of his barrel. It worked out for the better, however. Rather than having the strength and wrenching his withers from Rahasya's jaws and opening a larger wound, he slid down out of them and merely tore around the top of them. It would be a nasty bitch to heal, but Hinder was beginning to think his neck would be even worse. It wouldn't stop hurting! He grunted as he hauled himself from the ground, his hocks straining as he engaged his hindquarters to get up. He stood looking at Rahasya. He bowed his head in respect to the other stallion.

Good fight. He managed.

first attacks

HINDER/AZALEA
comments: This attack has a very clear instance of powerplay;
Quote:

The appropriate way to word this would have been, 'thought he felt himself connect..' 'may have felt himself connect..' or any other variation such as this. Even though the attack did hit (which is recommeded, to avoid god-modding) you shouldn't control the other character by claiming this.

According to the battle ground rules, there is a no-tolerance policy & Azalea, with Hinder, are disqualified.
originality: 0/5
damage done: 0/5
realism: 0/5
total: 0/15

the victor is: NELLY AND RAHASYA
i've not judged the rest of this, because there's no possibility of any other outcome. even if i simply deducted all the points for that one round, the overall loss of at least 15 points (and however many more were subtracted later on), Azalea would be unable to win. i'm sorry about this, as lots of time could have been saved if it was caught earlier. as it is, congrats to nelly for the win. from what i looked at of the posts, everything else looked great! keep it up guys.

tldr; keep an eye on the powerplaying; read over older battles, and see what was done then. if you need help, ask ANY of the mods and we are always willing.
