Her barrel had swelled so much, and the aches were so intense that Nolae had made the deduction that this was a much larger foal than her previous ones. This fact scared her. All her previous births had gone smoothly; what would this one be like? The mare did not have a very good feeling. But at least she was going to have another beautiful child. And Bezec was recovering. Nolae had aged an extra seven years in the past two. She had helped take on caring for Bezec, and then she had Jaye and March to pay attention to, also. To make matters worse, her daughter, Vivien, had ran off when things had gotten bad, and so Nolae had to try and at least keep an eye on her, but it was near impossible when the young foal was avoiding her family at every turn. All the stress had added seven extra years onto the mare. Soon, it was time for her to foal. Nolae laid down and went through labor, but when it came time to push, things were not right. The pushing was far harder, and the pain was far more intense. Nolae hesitated, catching her breath and suddenly becoming extremely frightened. Her heart was beating faster and faster, and the pain was becoming the only thing her mind could focus on. She tried pushing again, and ended up letting out a shriek of pain. More fear surged through her. For a few hours this endured, and by the time Nolae was finished and had given birth to Goliath, she had hardly any strength to sit up. She groaned in pain as the throbbing and stabbing continued to clutch her body. Tears were spilled down her face, and her breathing was heavy. Her body ached like it never had before. But when Goliath cried out in a gurgling, quiet whinny, Nolae forced herself to sit up. Dizziness captured her, but Nolae tried to ignore it. She cleaned the foal off, feeling even weaker now that she was sitting up. As soon as her foal was cleaned, she laid her head back down. She needed to rest. |
