I think everybody's nuts.
"you're reaching out, and no one hears you cry."
Prime’s light falls in the gossamer tendrils of dusk, bathing the beach in a warm radiance that speaks of peace and serenity—something that the Quarry is characteristically known for. Night is only a few hours away, and the darkness tickles the horizon with soft starry fingers, tempting the inhabitants with a calm embrace of sleep. Spring thrives here, offering a beautiful haven to the life that is conceived, putting forward a blissful renewal and beautiful peace. It is the perfect picture of sanctuary.

Well, Larena feels anything but tranquility as she thrusts herself towards the shoreline, her hooves thrashing beneath the roiling surface as she seeks to find purchase in the sand. Sweat glitters in streaks across what part of her isn’t soaked with the salt water, pale nostrils flaring wide as she breathes heavily. At last, she grunts as she feels the firm ground beneath her hooves, a sigh of relief rippling across her weary features as she pulls herself free from the ocean’s foamy fingers. The mare’s enlarged middle streams with the saline liquid, and the dip in her hips is a sign that it is only moments before her time comes to give birth. She pauses momentarily once she reaches the warmth of the shoreline, her pale head lowering to level with the slope of her shoulders as she takes a moment to collect herself. Sapphire eyes glance back across the vast body of water, her brow furrowing as she turns to seek some sort of privacy in the coastal trees that stretch in a thin forest.

Honestly, the golden mare hardly can recall how she has gotten herself into this situation. It had all happened so quickly; one moment he had been at her side, reappearing from the depths of the dead, and the next he was gone, slinking back into the shadowy abyss. Larena is confused, the thoughts whipping around her mind like a tumultuous whirlwind, but all she can do now is focus on what needs to be done: find a safe place to give birth to the foal that burdens her. Her swollen sides heaving in a deep breath, Larena saunters through the skinny trunks. Her step falters every few steps as the contractions rise to paralyze her muscles, her body seeming to be screaming at her for release of this agonizing pain.

It isn’t long before Larena finds a place that she feels satisfies her needs for this situation, though she knows that she can’t be particularly picky at this point. It is a small clearing amidst the coastal forest—offering just enough privacy to make her feel comfortable. Flicking her golden strands around her flanks, the hybrid mare circles her clearing only a few times before she is forced to lower herself to the ground, her actions slow and awkward, but eventually she is able to settle herself among the beach grass. Almost immediately her body is seized by the labor, and her eyes close as she forces the foal to release, sweat accumulating on her hide as the pain soars through her muscles. Exhausted, Larena’s head falls to the ground once she knows the foal has been freed from her, but she feels no less strain through her abdomen. Grunting, she strains to lift her head to look at her child, but just then she is once again consumed by another contraction.

Perplexed, the dun mare once again allows her instincts take over as she gives birth to a second foal, though it is no less painful and she cannot hold back a short cry of anguish. Terribly sore and immensely fatigued, she remains still for several moments, unsure whether she can will herself to move. Even so, it is the movement that she feels against her flanks that calls her to action, and gritting her teeth, Larena pushes herself to her feet and turns to take in the sight of her children. She smiles through the pain, the gesture softening her weary features and causing her blue eyes to shine. Her attention first shifts to the colt, the older one, and she marvels at his unique markings that are a handsome reflection of his mother and father. Whickering quietly, Larena then turns to clean off the filly, whose darker color is more of a surprise, but no less stunning.

Surprisingly, it is the filly that first rises to her feet, balancing gingerly as she stumbles and finds her way to her first meal. Larena’s pale brow furrows as she aids the colt, taking several tries before he is able to join his sister in nourishing his small body. The golden mare watches her son and daughter tenderly, joy mixing to overcome the agony that had racked her only moments before, her weary features brightening with the elation of—finally—being a mother. She breathes heavily, but would not have it any other way as she dotes on her children. "Alastair and Arati, my beautiful darlings," she murmurs tenderly. It is just as darkness pulls over the starry blanket of night that the trio settles in to doze off, the twins folding together at Larena’s feet as they all succumb to sleep’s comfortable embrace, all receiving a much-needed rest as worries are momentarily forgotten.
