Roka had not imagined that labor could feel this way. That the weight of the foal could become tiresome. That she could be so exhausted all the time. Pregnancy had become something she wanted to be done with for now. She wanted to have this foal out of her. And then she would be able to raise their precious child, touch her, hug her, kiss her. Well, at least Roka had a feeling that the foal was a filly. She would find out before long. Roka smiled at the images that flashed through her mind. Images of her and Rashka playing with their foal underneath the golden sunlight in lush meadows. She longed for that day. Roka stood at the outskirts of the Foaling Quarry, observing the place quietly. There were mothers giving birth to new foals and there were mothers nursing their newborn foals or cleaning them off. Roka smiled to herself. She was already a mother, but soon she would be able to touch and see and hear and smell their foal. The Foaling Quarry itself was a vast place, composed mainly of meadows and forests, but there were still a large number of beaches and caves. The ground was flecked with snow and frost, and the branches of saplings were coated with ice. Roka was just thankful that it was not snowing right now. It was very cloudy, but no snow or wind. After a moment, Roka moved forward to find a place to rest before the next contractions came. She wanted to find a place where Rashka could find her easily. The poor mare was afraid that maybe she would get lost or that he would not find her in time. Such thoughts haunted her then. She was afraid of giving birth without having her claimer by her side to comfort her. She was scared. Roka shuddered and made her way over to a weeping willow that at least seemed to provide some sort of protection. At least, as soon as Roka entered into it, it felt that way. Roka sighed quietly and sat down. The willow tree was bare enough so that Rashka would be able to see her, but it was also shielded enough to provide some extra comfort to the nervous mare. Roka suddenly realized that giving birth was quite a terrifying thing. |

Rashka was unfathomably nervous as he made his way to the foaling quarry to meet Roka. When she had asked him to go with her, he hadnt imagined that he would feel this way. He could hardly breath for the lump in his throat and the way his heart was racing. This was to be his first child, and he was so afraid that he wouldnt be a good father. He had no idea how to help roka raise their child and that knowledge haunted him. He whickered to roka when he saw her, afraid to speak, less she notice how frightened he was. He took a deep breath, calming himself, before speaking. "Roka, love, I am so sorry to have kept you waiting... How do you feel? Is there anything i can do for you?" His voice wavered slightly as he spoke, his eyes moving over her, examining her for any sign of pain so he could comfort her. He stepped forward and wrapped her in a warm embrace. He didnt need to say how much he loved and appreciated her. He stepped away, waiting for a response from roka. |

As soon as Roka caught Rashka's scent, she pricked her ears forward and her heart beat faster in excitement to see him. She was eager for his company. And as soon as the stallion entered the little protection of the weeping willow, Roka relaxed greatly. Instantly, Rashka began asking questions, which only made Roka smile. "I haven't been here too long, don't worry. I feel fine, although I do believe more contractions are going to start any second now. And you are doing everything I desire just by being here by my side, Love." The mare said with a grateful smile. Her nervousness had not subsided - but she was not as nervous as she had been. The fear was evident in her eyes, but her voice was calm and happy that Rashka was there. "I imagine that we'll be here for a few more hours. Oh, I'm hoping that this goes well and that our child is healthy." She smiled up at Rashka again, a little more nervously this time. Only seconds after, Roka felt a stabbing pain in her side. It was so sudden that it caused her to lose her breath and hesitate with wide, startled eyes. Her ears then flattened and she clenched her teeth. Her face scrunched up and she lowered her head before rolling awkwardly onto her side. She let out a few little groans, and then after about a minute, the contraction subsided. Roka let out a long sigh and opened her eyes. For four hours, Roka endured contractions and then labor. It was frightening and a few times, Roka would whinny loudly in alarm. She was just grateful that Rashka was with her - she had no idea what might have happened if he were not. But at last, the time came to push, and she pushed with all her might. One push was all it took. At last, the foal was born. Roka took a moment to gather her energy and strength, and then sat up and looked at their child. She smiled and then proceeded to clean her off. "She's a filly, Rashka." Roka said in a shaky voice that marked the coming of tears. Roka, when a tear fell down, took in a gentle sniff and said with a chuckle, "I promised myself I wouldn't cry." She looked up at Rashka and smiled joyously. She reached up and nuzzled him. "What shall we name her?" |
