The honey roan mare strides forward from the shore, pelt still dripping with excess saltwater. Within the hour, she has found a place to give birth, pangs washing over her body. Her pelt is dry and shiny now, coated in a sheen of sweat. What was she thinking? Giving birth to a foal sired by a stallion she still barely knew? That wasn't like her at all. You do crazy thing when you're in love. Soleil stopped her movement at that thought. She couldn't be in love. Sure, she got butterflies when she saw him; her heart went to her throat when she spoke; she felt shaky. Her golden ears swivel back and then forward again. Was she in love? The honey roan pushed the thoughts from her mind when birthing pangs washed over her, forcing a groan from her gold lips.
She lowered herself to the ground slowly then laid on her side, pushing her unborn foal from her womb. A long while later, her first child was born. Soleil was in awe of her daughter. The filly was a roan, like her, but she was dark and almost blue. A blue roan. How marvelous. Socks on her hindlegs and a thin stripe down her face. Brown eyes. Oh how lovely she was! Soleil threw herself into her mothering instincts to clean the girl, warm her up, get her blood circulating. Soleil's brown eyes beheld the child with sch adoration. Would Vitez love her as much as she did?
Soleil would name the filly Aurèle.
