Spring was almost over for Kormada, a lovely transition from winter, cold and chilly weather to vibrant sun rays and vivid colourations of wild flowers, shoots sprouting from every crack of the land. Nydith was nervous, more so now than she ever had been in her life. This ordeal of having a newborn around is exciting but also menacing for the mare given that she has never been through this before, nor, has Nydith been guided throughout her pregnancy, not even Sileo appeared to be stalking around Rich Water. Although for the past month it had been breeding season, resulting in Sileo being at the homeless grounds or at the breeding grounds, Nydith had assumed anyway. A few disheartening kicks pinpointing at random spots in her stomach made the gray roan mare uneasy, bearing this anguish was a challenge for Nydith, it being her first ever newborn, half the time she wasn’t sure if it was normal to be experiencing this type of pain constantly. A nippy wind picked up and swirled around Nydith whilst she snacked on the luscious grass, in an attempt to divert her pregnancy pain. For a few moments, it worked but the throbbing would come back again. Not only was it the throbbing making Nydith uneasy but a few sweat droplets tickled her pale peach nose and throughout her body. Every so often, the grey roan mare would have thoughts about Sileo and where he had gone off to or maybe he was around Rich Water but just never came out of the overcrownded vine jungle that congested Rich Water. He spoke mostly using body language, wanting to bring back the old traditions which was something Kormada has been deprived of for a few years. Nydith already knew Sileo had other prodigy running around seeing as she had only briefly met them when Sileo hosted that small yet growing herd meeting. Lucky for Nydith, she got the pleasure of meeting most of the mares Sileo had rounded up for Richer Water and every one of them had introduced themselves, agreeing to Sileo’s terms of body language and so on. Most of the mares there appeared to be distant and vigilant but being the first meeting for the herd, that was expected. Increasingly over time, the pain had gotten worse and unbearable for Nydith so the mare had concluded to resting her temporary stout frame above the sprouting greenery, crushing every living thing that had crawled between the tiny spaces of shrubbery. It took quite a few moments for Nydith to get comfortable with how she had placed herself, becoming irritated as time went by. She felt repulsive having sweat droplets protruding from every crevice on her body subsequently Nydith had brushed her tongue over her hind legs and came across a sticky liquid. Instincts had kicked in and the mare had assumed that her water had broken. It wasn’t long now, Nydith had thought, growing more anxious at the thought. It hadn’t been long until the ordeal was done with, thankfully everything seemed to be okay for Nydith and her newborn who was struggling to take a few shaky steps. The exhausted mare took a few unbarring steps towards her newborn, seeing that her first foal was a filly. A little smile tickled at the corners of her lips when she had reached her spotted newborn, gently brushing her pale peach mouth over the filly’s spine, taking in the newborn fragrance and treasuring it. As Nydith had proceeded to brush her mouth over the filly’s spine, Nydith also began to scour the remaining bits of afterbirth covering her newborn. The filly was unsteady beneath Nydith but eventually the newborn mustered up her unfound strength and stood strong whilst her mother had cleansed every nook and cranny. After the gray roan mare had finished scouring her newborn, she nudged the filly playfully on the top of her rump, trying to get her to move and make their way home back to Rich Water. On the way there, Nydith had thought she’d better think of a name for the newborn to introduce to Sileo. |
