![]() It's a little bit funny this feeling inside I'm not one of those who can easily hide The sixteen point three hand Friesian mare slowly walked into the unfamiliar grounds. The mare had never been here before but she was excited because she knew that she wouldn’t walk out of the foaling quarry alone. A smile crosses her lips when she walks around; she catches the sight of newborns and mares in labor. It wasn’t a pleasant thought to give birth to a foal but the mare knew once that part was over nothing else mattered. Alaska had started to feel her contractions a two or three days ago and she had decided to head to the foaling quarry before it was too late. The mare was starting to feel a contraction every thirty minutes. She had never done it before but she believed that it was a good sign, at least she thought so. The ebony black mare walks a bit more but decides to lie down. This place was as good as any other. The grass was a bit wet and water drizzled from the sky. Her mane and tail were both wet and her coat as well. The mare however didn’t feel cold, summer was almost there and the air was warm. As she looked up at the sky she saw the gray clouds covering the blue sky. The weather had been similar since she had left. The minutes passed by and the time between contractions was always getting shorter. Alaska tried her best to balance her breathing and stay calm. Her head is on the ground and her belly lifts up as she takes deep breaths. And soon a harsh contraction hits the mare and she squeezes her eyes together and clenches her teeth. Alaska slowly opens her eyes and looks around; she raises her head and looks at her belly. There was no sign of a foal but she thought she was able to see small hoofs. The blue eyed mare slowly lays her head on the ground and pushes. She feels the foal moving a bit. The sweat had begun to drip of the mare’s forehead. She had her eyes closed and took slow but deep breaths. After about ten minutes of pushing the foal had finally slipped out. Alaska was exhausted and she was going to need some rest. But the ebony mare can’t wait any longer; she raises her head and looks at a beautiful foal. The foal had a beautiful coat color patter and Alaska was so proud. A smile crosses her lips and soon one tear runs down her cheek. The Friesian mare slowly gets on her feet and sees that she had just given birth to a colt. She bends her head down and nuzzles her son and soon starts cleaning the blood of his coat. The mare looks into the colt’s innocent eyes and smiles. “I’m going to name you Ville” she says and smiles proudly. Alaska was in no rush on leaving and would allow the colt get some strength before heading back home to Raven’s Valley where he would meet his father Kalevi.
