The painted mare rushed into the foaling grounds, knowing that any minute now she would give birth to her first foal. Orlaith knew Kayden well enough now to know that he would be worrying about her but he probably assumed that Orlaith would be going to these grounds by now before venturing towards the new home that Kayden had fought for. Orlaith never pictured Kayden to be the one who’d fight off someone for a new land but he did what was best for his growing herd. It was with good intentions. Although it seemed by now that the herd was already at the new land, Orlaith couldn’t make the trip to see and inspect it before her foal was due, like the mare had planned but that never happened. Orlaith knew she was well overdue, but she wasn’t sure if this was normal or not, she had hoped like any other mare that everything was alright with her unborn foal. The exhausted mare failed to notice that she had walked more than a few steps into the land, unlike some, she wasn’t fussed on where she would foal, as long as it was safe enough for her and the foal. Restlessness overcame the mare until she had decided to plop herself down on a pile of vivid yet dead flowers, crunching underneath her heavy sweat covered frame, the mare moved herself into a position where her neck and head touched the cool soil of the environment all at once. Orlaith’s breathing pattern had become more rapid over the time, but she knew inside her head that she’d have to slow down her heavy breathing to a somewhat calmer pattern. Her back legs where the curve to her rump was, was sodden with a thick liquid where her water had broken a couple of moments ago. Orlaith knew now that it wasn’t long until the foal was due now. Finally she had thought. It wasn’t long until she felt strong needs to push and expel the foal from her body, now that her water had broken. Every few seconds, strong impulses thumped throughout her body and pain had filled within in, gritting her teeth and flailing her head around every so often. The sweat dews had increased even more now and by this time, Orlaith knew she had to get this over with. It took about an hour or so until the foal had been born, Orlaith took her time with the whole ordeal, making sure everything was fine with herself and the foal. By this time, she was on all four limbs; feeling more exhausted than before and made a few small uneven steps towards the frail painted foal. Orlaith was happy to see she had foaled a filly for Kayden. A healthy, strong filly. Orlaith was overcome with happiness as she had cleaned the remaining liquids of her filly, breathing in the filly’s new scent and memorizing the sweet moment between the filly and herself. Orlaith had finished doing her natural motherly business and by now had picked out a name for the newborn filly. She outstretched her neck towards the filly’s soft ears and whispered “Idadora” nudging her softly on the tip of her ear before returning back to her stance before. Orlaith waited few moments before she and Idadora attempted to make their way to Kayden’s new home he had picked out for the herd. |
