Jessie inched into the homeless, her heavy body nearly dragging her to the ground. Her breathing was heavy, her nostrils flared, her lungs heaving, her legs quivering. She was ready for this foal to be born. She had been ready weeks ago. Fortunately, it looked like the foal would be born in Spring instead of the harsh Winter. Jessie moaned with every breath, her ears pinned back at the pain and unexplainable irritation. The mood swings that came with pregnancy had gotten her good.

The mare wandered around the Foaling Quarry, looking for a good spot to foal. Every step was painful, and the overwhelming pain she was enduring was enough to force her to her knees and onto her side. It would in a minute, whether or not she found a good place to foal.

Snow was sprinkled around the Quarry, hardened with black around its edges as it began to melt and reveal all the dirt trapped inside it. The grass was growing, and already Jessie spied a few young flowers here and there. The grass was turning a lush green, and small leaves were budding on the branches of the trees. The sun was shining brightly, melting the snow even faster. Birds tweeted in the nearby distance, and a lone, crisp breeze combed through the land.

Jessie found a patch of light green grass with a couple flowers, and she took it. She laid down quickly but carefully, and slid onto her side, letting out a painful and stressed neigh.

At last, the foal was born. After seven more hours of labor, the foal was born. Jessie groaned and then instantly propped herself up and looked over at the foal, her extreme protective skills kicking in. She began to clean the foal off, and that was when she realized it was a filly. She smiled at the beautiful filly before her. She had a perfect white blaze, two stockings, and a sock. Her coat was much redder and bolder than Jessie's, and her eyes were amazing. She was in perfect health.

Jessie chuckled when the filly squeaked at her and tried to thrust herself to her legs after she was done being cleaned. The mare looked over at one of the flowers, and noticed it was a tiger lily, with a color not far off the filly's. Jessie looked back at the filly and said to her, "How about Tiger Lily as your name."

The filly managed to stand on her hooves, and she smacked her lips. Jessie stood up to grant Tiger Lily's request, and instantly the filly began to nurse, sucking in the sweet milk. Jessie could not stop smiling. "Yes, your name is Tiger Lily. I can't wait to show you to your father."
