It was now winter and she had been keeping a close eye on her new friend, April, who was a small filly and would soon turn of age the mare had assumed anyway. The days weren’t filled with that slight hue of warmth anymore, days were now just chilly and icy, luckily for Silirith she had a rather thick pale winter coat with slight colours of brown mixed in with her paleness due to the rain and dirt which all mixed together turning her pale coat into a hue of almost brown. As for the nights around Kormada, they were probably worse and she did worry for April, fearing she might not make it through this winter although she was a strong filly, this made the mare worry a little less. Most lands Silirith had walked through were covered with a white blanket of snow, everything was white and it was a strange sight to see since the mare herself could almost blend in with the blanket of snow. As the mare has travelled past some lands, she could see that some were in grave danger and some were doing well, none of it mattered to the mare though since she was a traveller and wouldn’t settle down although she did have her doubts about Bitter Lullen and the father of this foal; Rowan. Silirith wondered how he and his herd were doing, if they were coping with the drastic weather change. The stallion was smart though and he probably would have moved some place else if he thought his herd was in danger. After many weeks of travelling with April, the mare’s belly wasn’t so slim now, it was almost like a barrel and she had assumed April would have noticed by now. Silirith was filled with joy to be having her first foal although in the back of her mind, she did worry, she had doubts about it. Thinking back to Rowan’s agreement, this foal would have to remain at Bitter Lullen until it was of age, Silirith would have to be there within the first couple of months, not very fond of the thought and being surrounded by herd mares. The pale mare knew she would instantly become protective, like a lioness, around her new first foal, it was just instinct. After those couple months were over, the mare’s plan wasn’t quite clear in her mind yet, whether she would leave or stay, it depends how things pan out in the end and she would make a proper decision. A relief of sigh came from within the mare’s throat as she had finally entered the foaling quarry grounds; this is where her and April would remain for the next few days knowing that she would be due anytime now. The signs were quite clear now, her udder had swollen and every now and then a few droplets of white liquid would come through, Silirith had assumed this was milk noting to her not to worry about it. The mare had also noticed that her rump was not so wide and shallow but deep and narrow around some points, as for the other changes in her body she couldn’t quite tell yet but maybe April would have noticed by now. The pale mare looked for a wholesome place to rest her tired body once again, her blue eyes looking over the land quite contently and soon found a spot soon after she had arrived, assuming April wouldn’t be far behind her in tracks. The pale bulged mare started to make her way towards a blanket covered tree, everything about it was quite but some of the leaves would peak through this blanket of snow and reveal its true colour; a slight colour of green. The mare was sure that this would be a decent place to rest and hopefully foal. As she got closer towards the spot underneath the tree, she could see that the blanket of snow seemed undisturbed meaning no one had been here. Happy with her decision, she placed her bulging pale frame underneath the tree, hearing the snow crumble underneath her body. Silirith had almost blended in with the snow now, hoping April would spot her out. The pale mare rested herself contently and would now wait. |

April cantered quickly into the Quarry, knowing that she was probably not late, but she wanted to be cautious nevertheless. She looked with her eyes for a moment, scanning the Quarry for Silly. It was a minute before she spied the mare laying down contentedly. April let out a little sigh of relief and began approaching the mare. April was thankful that she had been travelling with Silirith. The mare had offered her company and friendship, both of which were precious to April. And Silirith had helped her look for her parents. Recently, April had been thinking of perhaps following in her parent's hoofsteps and building a Rogue family of her own - a large Rogue family that was cohesive and loved each other. April still had a half-sister that she could convince to join a family that April would build. As for Nolae... April was uncertain. Nolae would probably want to wait for Bezec and not consider herself part of another Rogue family, even if it was April who built it. But then again... Nolae might see it as perfectly fine. April just did not know. And what about Silly? The mare was pregnant, and April felt uneasy about asking her to join a Rogue family when Silly's mate was in a different land. April would have to think on that matter. But the matter that was most on her mind was finding her parents, and being here for Silly's foal's birth. April had never seen anyone give birth before. And now she was about to see it at a young age. This excited her a great deal, to be able to witness the first cry of life firsthand. April could faintly remember being in the Quarry herself when she was a young filly. But the memory was too faint for her to identify where she was born, what was said between her parents, what she first did. April approached Silly and came to a stop in front of the mare. "How are you?" Was April's first question. She was meaning how Silly was feeling - was the mare far into labor, or had the labor barely begun? Judging by Silly's calm, content look, April guessed that the labor really had yet to come. (ooc: I'm sorry about teh delay!) |

The foaling quarry was a serene place for the mare, she had never been here before since this would be her first foal which was quite nerve racking for the mare, she had hoped that nothing would go wrong with her foaling like every other mare in foal would hope. Silirith feared that once she gave birth to her foal and it inherited a defect, that Rowan would the give the pair a cold shoulder although she hadn’t known Rowan all that much, she wasn’t sure how he would react. To ease the mare’s mind, the thought of April had helped her cope through this and for that she was grateful; the small yearling could give her a bit of help if needed. After all, Silirith was nice enough to let her travel with her and protect her while her parents disappeared unknowingly. Keeping in mind about April’s parents disappearance, Silirith would make sure she would be around this foal like any normal mother, though the terms that Rowan and herself had agreed on were a little difficult for Silirith for a rogue mare, she would do her best. A soft cold breeze swept across the environment of the foaling quarry, it was a pleasant feeling on the mare’s rising tempered frame, a clear sweat condensation was rapidly building over her pale colour. No matter how cold the snow was beneath her, the mare’s temperature wouldn’t settle and the mare had assumed this was normal so she remained at ease for a brief moment. Silirith looked out towards her, a clear mist was now covering the land, which she had failed to notice. The mist seemed to be disturbed by a travelling equine and immeadiantly Silirith had assumed this was now April making her way through, from what Silirith could tell anyway. Her blue eyes kept a firm hold on this equine and in no time the equine had revealed itself; April. The yearling was rapidly at a fast pace making her way towards the pale mare. A soft breath came from Silirith’s widened pale nostrils, she did feel a little relief knowing that April was here now. It wasn’t long until April had come to a complete halt, her movements were gracious and young like, almost mechanical in a way. Although April was now here, Silirith grew a little agitated and uncomfortable, a slight grunt came from her throat as she tried to grasp a little energy up and stand to see if this would work, she wasn’t really sure what to do. Her shaky front legs now in front of her and ready to heave her heavily bulged body up as April had decided to start a conversation up. Silirith’s strength was surprising and with a little trouble on her shaky legs, the mare had managed to heave herself up in a matter of minutes. The sweat condensation had increased since a few moments ago when it had started causing bits of white snow stick to her pale frame. Now that the mare was standing, it didn’t make her feel any better and it had only been a couple of minutes since April tried to spark up a conversation with no answer from the mare. Trying to not make a fuss about herself too much, she had faced the yearling with a weak grin, “a little exhausted” was all she could say without trying to seem to puffed or phased by the stages of labor. Silirith had paused, catching the sweat and cool air around her, breathing it in to her lungs before she could say another word, “I’m so glad you arrived April” Although it might seem to April that she wasn’t appreciated here, she couldn’t thank April enough for being here. Silirith really was appreciative for the yearling’s presence. Her flanks seemed a bit inflamed and without no hesitation, she swung her neck around to tend to the irritation and nip a few times, hoping this would sooth it for now. She swung her neck back around to face April, trying to seem unphased and also trying to relax. In Silirith’s younger days when her mother was around, she could slightly remember her mother telling the young yearling at the time, that a nervous mare during labor will always hold on longer. So taking this little bit of advice that she could remember from her ever so helpful mother and tried to relax her tense, sweat dew and unstable body for now. |

April noticed Silirith's reply to her being here. She did not take it personally. She knew that pregnant mares had mood swings and the sort. The filly knew that Silly wanted her here. April could see that the worst of the labor would take place before long. She just hoped that everything would be all right for Silly. April had never before witnessed labor or birth. She knew how it worked, but to see it firsthand was completely different, she was sure. She was in part excited and nervous. Would Silly be all right? What if the mare was not? April would want to take care of her and watch her, at least for a little while. What if after today Silly would never recover? April resisted a shudder. April then wondered when she should tell Silly what she had really done. She had gone to the Scarbearers, and now knew the exact location of Pasqua. What would Silly think? April had taken a huge risk to ask a Scarbearer for help, and now she was taking another huge risk searching for Pasqua. April at least knew that her mother was alive. Alive. Her mother was not dead. Those words were more comforting to the filly than words could describe. But just how would a rescue mission work? April was tiny, and she would be going alone. She would probably end up making a deal with the stallion that held Pasqua. If Pasqua was freed, April would tell her to try and find the family and meet Silly. April knew that Silly deserved to meet her mother. She had helped look for her, and April was forever grateful for that. April snapped out of her train of thought. She had to focus on what was happening now. A new life was about to come into the world. Suddenly, the excitement enveloped her, and April's eyes brightened. She was unsure how to comfort Silly in the process, but at least she could try... She just hoped that she would do an okay job. |

Another cool breeze swept over the mare’s sweaty frame, which felt nice to some degree, it was almost like a blanket of water rushing over her. Whilst waiting from a response from April, Silirith tended to her irritation at the flanks a few more times to pass the time by. She wondered when this foal would finally enter the world; be born. It was unusual for the mare to idle in a place for so long, residing here for a few days now, she let herself prepare for labor and birth hence why she got here a bit early and waited for April to make her way. Her blue eyes scanned over the yearling, appearing to be lost in her thoughts and this had made Silirith begin to wonder what was wrong but she assumed in time the yearling would tell her. A few more moments of silence had passed by and April had still said nothing which was unexpected but Silirith assumed she was here to help and was probably nervous too, seeing Silirith act this unusual for the first time probably would have shocked the yearling. The pale framed mare grew tired of standing and pacing her breaths, so she bend her front legs and heaved her body downwards towards the ground, hoping not to land too harsh on the heavy blanket of snow. As her large stomach had hit the ground, an odd feeling of liquid raced down the inside of her hind legs, being new to this all, the mare wasn’t sure what it was but natural instincts had kicked in and she assumed her water had broken. Anytime now this foal would be born, she had thought to herself. Silirith looked up at April with a worried look, hoping she would figure it was time since the mare couldn’t grasp a single word due to pain and pacing her breaths for relaxation. Strong contractions started to dig inside her body, urging her to push, her breaths now not so steady were more of a huffing and puffing desperation. Silirith could feel slight movements of the foal in her stomach, so she pushed a little harder now. After about half an hour of hard work, the pale mare was exhausted and the birthing had been a success. Silirith buried her head in the snow for now, knowing that the ordeal was done, finally. She didn’t bother to check on the foal at the moment, assuming things were okay. Hearing the little grunts and knickers from her first newborn was an overwhelming feeling to the mare and gave her a burst of adrenaline to prop herself up and clean the foal off. The pale mare set her eyes on the newborn that was already standing although very shaky on the legs, inspecting the newborn’s frame it appeared to be a colt. When her eyes reached the colt’s head though, she noticed a defect, something she had worried about. The colt had a strange form around his mouth area, the mare lowered her head and shook it, a little tear dropping down her exhausted features and now worrying for the colt’s future. Whether Rowan would kill him or just abandon him, this had worried the mare. Nevertheless, she walked over to him and cleaned off every inch of placenta and blood that remained on the colt, she examined his other features too whilst cleaning. Taking note that he had an exceptionally well-proportioned body for a newborn. As Silirith had cleaned him she also took in his warm new scent, her eyes fluttering as she did. When all the natural things of birth had been completed, Silirith in the process had totally forgotten about April’s presence. Being quick to respond, the mare turned on her hind legs and faced April with a half hearted smile and gestured her head towards the newborn, letting her know it was okay to greet him now. Silirith wondered how April would take the colt’s presence, how excited and eager she must be to meet him. In the meantime, she faced away from April and now walked over to the colt and nudged the left side of his face as he unsteadily walked to her udder to nurse. While the pale mare was standing still, being nursed on, she already had a name in mind and faced April, “I think Rithan would be a wonderful name for the colt, what do you think April?” Her tone in a soft and barely audible tone. |
