Audrey stretched her neck up towards the sky and inhaled. Ah, nothing like the smell of Autumn. Ahead of her was the homeless grounds, the place she had been searching for this whole time. She grinned and happily raced towards it, kicking up leaves behind her in her rush. She skid to a stop once she entered, her eyes scanning her surroundings. There sure were a lot of other Mares there, stallions too. Perfect. Just what she was looking for. She pranced past a few stallions, sticking her head up in the air to make her appear uninterested. She slowed when she found a near by tree, eyeing the leaves hanging off it's branches. She put one hoof against the trunk of the tree as she stretched up on her rear legs, plucking a mouthful of leaves from it's branches before she looked around.

Audrey scanned a few of the mares there, and even one Zebra. She wrinkled her nose at the thought of a stallion actually being interested in something so...exotic. She shook her neck a bit, causing her mane to go flying, finally settling back on her neck once she stopped. She turned around, heading towards the watering hole, dipping her muzzle down towards the water and taking a long drink, being parched from leaves which had been a bit too dry for her tastes. Well at least the grass was still nice, especially there by the water. She turned around and began grazing on the grass, swishing her tail back and forth happily as she munched.

WELL SWEET MOTHER TERESA ON THE HOOD OF A MERCEDES BENZ

i did not come here to tell you how this was going to end
Thorin had definitely decided today was his last in the common grounds. At least for the winter months. It was growing too cold, and he didn’t want to be stranded and away from his land and one mare. He barely knew Foxy, or even if she had made it home safe. He presumed she had. The Gypsy Vanner was too young to know the full history of Infernal Meadows, but it had seemed pretty safe when he had claimed it, as had the continent it was situated in. If she couldn’t make to the Scantland without him, he was wasting his time with her. The white stallion favoured mares that could stand on their own feet over ones that needed constant babying and attention. He had no time for pleasantries, not least until they were home and knew each other a little better. On the same token, he never wanted to rush into anything. Perhaps that was why he had only laid claim to one mare.

It was getting on in the day and still Thorin had not found a mare to talk to. He liked to only approach one in the course of the day, so he wasn’t over-working himself. Not that the company of ladies wasn’t too much for him, he just wanted to be selective. Thorin wasn’t one of these stallions that collected mares for fun. He was looking for intelligence and companionship, and if she was pretty that was a bonus. He had no set agenda, being neutral, and no desire to breed with every mare he owned – that was up to the female in question. He was mainly happy that he had a land of his own again, and wanted to find his own bunch of mares to settle with, instead of being a colt in his sire’s herd. That was the last time the pale stallion had been in a herd environment.

He moved swiftly through the homeless grounds, mainly in search of water. The short stallion suddenly became aware he hadn’t drank nearly all day. His coat was almost achromatic as he passed through several other males and some mares dotted about the place. There were less and less equines with each passing day, and he wasn’t surprised. Most stallions were in their lands servicing their current mares with the season it was, and the others were withdrawing due to the bad weather. Shaking his voluminous forelock out of his alabaster face, his nostrils flared as he breathed in the smell of water close by. Angling his body towards the body of water he neared the watering hole, so thirsty he trotted forwards to drink greedily; his face bent to the water as he happily gulped down a few mouthfuls before surfacing.

It was only when he came back up to full height he noticed the other figure by the water. She was slight and dainty as he was stocky, her coat a pretty shade of smoky dapple grey. Astoundingly, she was alone. Thorin’s ears pricked as he turned his azure gaze on her, masculine chords uttering a whicker in a token of apology for his rudeness. She was grazing, but he decided to approach on the offchance. Making his way over, the Gypsy Vanner stopped a short distance from her, bowing his thick-set head briefly before introducing himself. “Greetings. My name is Thorin. Can I ask after yours?” His voice was deep and tranquil like the water they stood beside as the pallidly hued stallion waited for the stranger’s reply.

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got not girl to make you smile
But don't worry be happy
Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy

The palomino paint was starting to grow his winter coat. It was getting colder each day since winter wasn’t far away. The stallion wasn’t used to spending time in the social grounds, he liked to stay at home with his herd, and recently he had met his first son. His first mare Dasha had gave birth to a wonderful colt, he was named Devaroux and Devar didn’t think it could be a better name for the colt. A smile crosses his lips as he thinks of home. Then there was also his mare Lady that had given birth as well to a filly named Ismelda. He was really glad that his family was growing; he also had a mare named Aizel though he hadn’t talked to her much since he had met her in the Quick Claim. He was looking forward to get to know her though.

Devar walked around in the homeless, he had met Lady here. It was about a year ago, around the wintertime. Time went by fast, sometimes a little too fast. He felt like it had been so short time since he had decided to settle down. After traveling for few years the stallion had made a decision to leave his traveling days behind him and start a family. He had been successful and was happy that he didn’t regret making this decision. However the stallion wasn’t looking to have too many mares, he had three already. Maybe five mares would be enough for now. He was in no hurry though; he had plenty of time left.

After a while of walking he noticed a pretty mare. The mare was a pretty dapple gray, close to her was a stallion. His coat was white and he had a bit more drafty body building. However the mare was like he opposite. But the palomino paint was somewhere between those two. His mother had some Arabian genes while his father had more draftish building. Since they were only two Devar didn’t think it would be a problem if he joined them. He walks towards the mare with a polite smile on his lips. He was able to hear the name of the other stallion, Thorin. Once the stallion finished speaking asking for her name Devar wasn’t sure if to wait for her to say her name or not. “Hello” he says in a calm nice tone “My name is Devar and I come from Glimmer, I am sorry for cutting in front of you” he says apologizing to the mare. A calm look is directed towards the mare as he waits for answer.

Audrey lifted her head when she heard the stallion approach her, noticing yet another one had approached as well. She smiled to herself internally, not wanting to give away too much about herself yet. She wanted to keep them interested. "Hello Boys, Audrey's the name." She smiled seductively before turning her body so she was facing the two of them, crossing one leg over her front one, appearing to be relaxed in the situation. Her eyes shifted between the two of them. They were both rather attractive stallions, both of which she would be pleased to call her claimer. Her eyes first moved over Thorin, the white one. He seemed strong, which was perfect. She wanted a stallion who would be more than capable of caring for her if she got herself into trouble, which she seemed to be good at. Adventuring was something she loved, and she often encountered dangerous creatures, mostly out of boredom. Perhaps when she is adopted into a new herd she wouldn't have the aching boredom that got her in so much trouble.

Audrey looked over to the paint, her eyes trailing him over. He wasn't as muscular as the stallion beside him, but he had such kind eyes. He still seemed very capable of protecting her. She offered them both a softer smile this time, circling them both for a moment. Audrey was confidant, always, which could sometimes anger some of the stallions and mares she encountered. But that never held her back. She lowered her head a bit as if she was examining something. She took a step back, putting some unwanted distance between her and the two, knowing one of them would be bold enough to take that extra step towards them. She fluttered her eyelashes at them, keeping that wholesome smile on her face. "You both seem quite handsome. How is it you have the need for more mares? Surely you have quite the herds of your own, hm?"

Audrey shivered a bit as a cold breeze rolled in, breaking her concentration a bit. She frowned, keeping her eyes on the stallions, hoping they hadn't noticed. She didn't want to appear weak, certainly not. She wasn't a weak mare at all! She shook herself a bit in an attempt to warm up before offering them the soft smile she had been giving them since their arrival. "What is it like where you both live? Warm?" She hated winter, and was dreading the fact that it was approaching. She was old enough to be on her own now, and the thought of finding a way to keep warm terrified her. She had only just turned three after all. She eyed the two stallions again. Both of them seemed equally capable of keeping her warm in the winter, as well as the other mares they most likely had in their herds.

Thorin knew he wouldn’t be the only stallion interested in this mare. Although she was the complete opposite of him in terms of build, she was very attractive and he would like to get to know her a bit better. However, it seemed like these days the whole male population of Kormada seemed to descend onto the common grounds in their testosterone-filled masses, and the white stallion was not in the least bit surprised when he caught the musky scent of another on the breeze. He didn’t recognise the painted male that was approaching, which made a nice change. As the Gypsy Vanner had spent most of his time in the homeless, at least for this season anyway, he was slowly starting to put names to faces as they competed for more and more mares. His blue eyes drew away from the mare in question onto his competitor, who seemed only a few inches or so taller in height, and loudly marked in a golden overo. This would be tougher than most, as Thorin usually banked on being the ‘pretty’ one.

The other stallion, who soon gave his name to be Devar, seemed decent enough. He spoke in a laid-back fashion, and unlike many stallions didn’t treat the courtship like some kind of sport. Thorin hated that attitude. The pale stallion had respect for mares, even if he didn’t feel like he could get close to one. This may change over time, he wasn’t closed to the idea of falling in love – just didn’t think it very likely. He didn’t recognise the territory the overo named, but his knowledge of this part of the planet was very limited. He thought he had been lucky just to stumble across the land he now called home, let alone look around for a better one. That was a task he had set aside for when the year was warmer and he had one or two mares under his belt. It would be a lot easier to move now just with Foxy, but Thorin wouldn’t mind another new herd member if he could convince another mare to come home with him.

The grey mare, who up to this point had been more or less passive in the conversation, seized her chance to act. She snaked her body round to a pose that was mildly appealing, stating her name to be Audrey. If she was one of these females that thought she could charm her way into the white stallion’s heart, she was going the wrong way about it. Loyalty, intelligence and a certain amount of respect were the qualities Thorin thought his ideal mare to be, but this one might be fun. Then again, he had only just met her, who knew if this was only an act and she was hiding parts of her personality underneath. He felt her eyes roaming over him, but the ivory stallion kept his ground and looked her back, his light blue eyes piercing into her own. He kept his gaze on her as she did the same to the paint, before taking a step back.

Thorin was not stupid. She was deliberately testing them to see who would fall first into her trap. His thick, feathery legs shifted, as if he was going to make up the new ground towards her, before resting his left hindleg, tilting his short back as he relaxed even more into the situation; an amused smile alighting his blanched face. She was exciting, in a way that the Gypsy Vanner thought might be irritating, but he was actually quite enjoying outdoing her mind games. “I’ll take that compliment Audrey. Unfortunately I am relatively new to these parts, and thus I am looking for mares to add to my party of two.” His draft head leaned in a little, his blue eyes positively winking in mischievousness. “If I had enough mares, I wouldn’t be here love.”

She shivered a little, and Thorin was not surprised. She was after all of Arabian blood, at a guess, and unlike her, he had a nice thick coat to keep himself warm. “I’ve not wintered in my home yet, but judging by the continent, I would say it is no colder nor warmer than anywhere else. It is located in the Scantland, where everything is alive and growing, despite the name.” He said, his small ears pricking forwards to gauge a reaction, and also to hear how Devar faired in this flirtaceous warfare.
